Squad Assault

Squad Assault is a grueling game mode in which you are tasked with winning five consecutive battles against enemies from story mode maps. Successful completion of all five battles will not only net you a new Sacred Seal, but two orbs as well.

To attempt a Squad Assault challenge, tap the ‘Battle’ icon and select the ‘Story Maps’ option from the Battle menu. From there, hit the ‘Squad Assault’ icon and choose which challenge you wish to attempt.

Each attempt will cost 20 Stamina with ‘Lunatic’ being the only difficulty offered.

How Squad Assault Works

While the premise of Squad Assault seems simple enough, its difficulty lies in the rules it exerts. For example, if you use a certain Hero in one of the battles, you cannot use the same Hero in any of the future battles since they are ‘captured’ after the map is completed. Duplicate Heroes also cannot be deployed on the same team.

It should be noted Heroes who share the same name, but function as different units can be used together or in different battles. For instance, using Tharja for one battle does not prevent you from ever using her Christmas version.

Additionally, you must field four Heroes per battle, meaning to complete a Squad Assault, you need at least 20 unique Heroes.

Finally, should even one of your Heroes be defeated, the game is over and you must attempt it again. Any ‘captured’ Heroes from the previous battles are free to be used in future assaults.

Additional Details and Tips

It is also important to note that while the enemies featured in Squad Assault are identical to their ‘Story’ counterparts, they do differ in some respects. The most obvious of which are their inflated stats.

As you can see, Xander’s level is listed as ‘40+’ and he has a significantly higher stat total. However, despite wielding his signature weapon, he has no other skills or abilities equipped. You’ll find many enemies in Squad Assault function similarly.

Tips

Squad Assault may seem daunting and it certainly can be, but there are a couple of things you can do to make completing each one a little easier.

The first of which is to spread your strongest Heroes out, rather than field them in the same team. It may be tempting to use your best Heroes together, and it certainly is viable if your barracks are teeming with good ones, but it may not be the best idea in the long run. You never know if one of them might prove to be more beneficial on a later map.

Remember that after you complete a battle, you can get a preview of the next map, in addition to the enemies you’ll be facing. Use this to your advantage and field a team that can easily counter them. If they don’t pose much of a challenge, use some of your weaker Heroes (provided you think they can win) so you can save your best units for more difficult maps.

Lastly, take your time! It can be frustrating to reach the final map just for an enemy to pick off one of your units, resulting in a game over. There is no time limit in Squad Assault, so plan your moves accordingly to ensure your Heroes survive.

Before long, all those orbs and Sacred Seals will be yours!
