  3. It's supposed to be some kind of combination of the lorica segmentata and splintmail, and of what I know, is usually considered roman, though heavily doubted to ever have existed in actual use. But yeah, with the roman era style leaders, and the late medieval, early renaissance Spanish soldiers, I really don't know what era they thought of going for, it's not like Europe was lacking in different designs and types of armor and protection, and definitely not during the high medieval period. Yep, you'r right, awakening had the same design. That would be really fun to see. I would really support that.
  4. Yet Marx for some reason wears the pseudo roman banded armor (which isn't really accepted as historically correct): Really seems like they couldn't decide which time period they wanted to go for with the west, You are quite right, and they where apparently not that common (edit: on the field of battle), due to that they narrowed the wearers field of vision, so I would guess that they were predominantly worn by officers and military leaders. And for hose curious how they looked like, here is the Crosby Garrett helmet as an example:
  5. I don't think so, if we get to chose between east & west, I think they'll a tad different characters for the different sides, might even have the Arran/Samson situation.
  6. The helmet didn't actually throw me of, the armor did, I wonder why they couldn't use something like lorica hamata or lorica segmentata for the armor, which is more recognizable and more correct, than banded armor, which has dubious historical correctness, Edit: I say the roman armors, cause the helmet in the pic below the rider has, reminds me somewhat of a Galea, with the brush going with the head, not across it, pretty much the stereotypical roman centurion helmet, also, if they thought of going with high medieval, the armor would most likely look more like it does in the pic you posted, and not banded armor, a historically dubious roman armor. Btw, western guys in the foreground, Am I alone in thinking they kinda look like Spanish soldiers? probably because of the Morion style helmets, which if my memory serves me right, is often associated, something like this:
  7. I really hope it will be about taking side, and neither is truly evil, it could also be that each side has different characters you recruit, and those you would have recruited on the other side are bosses, that's one way I could see you would even connect with chapter bosses (that aren't monsters) more for every playtrough, if you pick the other side.
  8. Thanks guys, always nice to be appreciated. 10. Well, at least I'm not the only one who noticed it, but I think they are supposed Ofuda, Japanese paper charms or amulets, and not cards.
  11. If I can put something into the weapon weight discussion, I'd like to something like they did in tearring saga, yeah I know it's not really an fe game, but it was done fairly well there I thought, like early game iron bow vs bowgun, yes you might double with the bow, but you'r quite sure to hit if you use the bowgun, there was a reason to use the heavier weapon since it was more accurate.

  15. I'll post this here too quoting myself from the trailer analysis thread because I noticed something that might belong here:
  16. Just a random thing a noticed, is the magic fan thignie maybe supposed to be some ofuda (don't know how to put that in plural in English), or whatever they are called?, The paper charm... cards?, I don't really know hoe to explain them, but it seems like it, just noticed it cause of how many times you replayed and paused that part. And the staff, mace, thing, that is used by the partner dual attacking in the same shot, could maybe be a khakkhara, or sounding staff in English, so maybe a monk class?
  17. Oh yes, I really liked the way dragonstones worked in fe 3, and we really could bring the old ones back (or invent 4-6 new ones?). Oh yes, I would actually want to see that. and while we are at it, we could bring the tanks back from tearring saga: Yeah I took a screencap quickly from youtube, sue me. From this guys channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfzjtd4HgcXpxP9KkBa6kVw. I know he has been known here too as Kelsper, but I don't know what username he uses nowadays. And I'm not being sarcastic, I really would want to see them.
  18. The thing is, pair up is always the optimal strategy, there is no reason not to, you get one more powerful unit, and chance for dual guard and dual strike, the one map I can think of the you want to a few more units on the map, is Tikis paralogue, and this game needed more of that to discourage it in that cache. And it's easy to really on pair up, since it never get obsolete. (I think I'm agreeing with you ?) Yeah, not a big fan of extra credits to be honest, and I too hope to get into game design. Because they often time tell the obvious, and come across as preachy and pretensions, and have shown they wont admit when they are wrong (example, the episode with science and religion). I know one of them is doing something in game design, but I have seen so much I just question, that I would take everything with a grain of salt. Then again I study to become a game designer and will probably continue to the next school after finishing this one. Also, there are a lot of books on game design like this:http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Game-Design-lenses/dp/0123694965, and in the "people who bought this has also bought", you'll find even more.

  20. For me, the most important thing is in a fire emblem, is a mix of story & gameplay, and to an extent I can enjoy a game lacking in one area if it covers in the other. This is not how I'm with all games (really depends on the game), but fire emblem has just been one I think has don decently in both. Favorite mechanics is kinda hard to say, I really enjoyed RD, for it's mechanics (like ledges and height advantages), Trachia I thought had fun mechanics, I mean things like capture, not staffs missing. So it's hard for me to say which had the best mechanics, because so many has done things I really like. And if it goes in the wrong direction, I can't say since the new game isn't out yet, yeah so far I'm not a big fan of the designs and art, but with Kozaki being back, it was to be expected, personally not a big fan of his, but overall, anything could still happen with this new game, so we'll just have to wait and see.
  21. It that case I apologize for being an ass, although I wouldn't say this fanbase doesn't want change, since there have been quite a lot of that throughout the series, both minor and major, while maintaining the core formula. This really depends, because I think they removed several things that could have been good even in awakening, like height advantage and disadvantage and ledges. And another thing I really missed was the overworld narrator, a third party, neutral story teller, could have really helped. I think we just have to accept we play the games for different reasons and have different views on them. This comes down to a few things, one, awakening wasn't necessarily a bad game on it's own, for many this was their first fe game, and this was the first time it came under their radar due to the amount of advertisement done (first time ever in my country I'm aware of, no, really, I nearly missed out on path of radiance cause I didn't know it even existed for quite some time), but when it comes to compare to the other games in the series, there was a lot left to be desired, for me at least, and also how poorly it tied into the games it was supposed to be a sequel to, especially when it gets things form the earlier games wrong. Again, I'm not blaming people who played this as their first fe game and liked it, not even veterans, because it's not really a bad game, it depends on what you are looking for and how important the lore is for said player. And with the thing that fans matter, yes, but now I can ask you, which are more important, the veterans you know are coming back, or the newcomers? ok, suspense questions don't really work in text but, anyway, if someone would answer one or the other, I would say they are wrong since the answer, for me at least, is both, while you do want to try to expand your audience, you also want to keep the veterans coming back for more. I don't necessarily disagree with you there, but I have seen a lot of people going on about how you should only appeal to newcomers or veterans of a series.
  22. Oh yes, another sword that would be fun to see in some iteration would be the Khopesh, and even though it has an outward curve.
  23. This isn't necessarily true, depending on if you put them on a level playing field and only take japans numbers (the only country all games have been released), if my memory serves me right, awakening sold about 500,000 copies there, while the best selling is fe 3, mystery of the emblem with about 750,000 copies, and is the most critically acclaimed there, if my memory serves me right. Edit: also Shadow Dragons numbers where better than that of what of either tellius game.
