  1. Prince of Persia (in the vein of the sand of time trilogy) Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced Wars Mega Man X/Zero/ZX series (I like classic I just prefer the X games) I would love see a new Kid Icarus, Kid Icarus: Uprising had so much untapped potential. Crimson Skies/ Rogue Squadron Okami l love the Mother games but I respect Itoi's decision as far as ending the games at 3, if he has nothing to add, 3 is a great place to end.
  2. Go to the console in the blade barracks with all the people around it (the one you select your division) and go to use squad tickets there you can get Energy Tubes (among other things) for 22 tickets (depending on far in to the game you are). A lot of the items that are hard to find can be gotten this way so always check. btw the other item is around the beginning parts of obliva most commonly at night.
  3. Favorites: Assassian, Hero, Sage, Bishop, Falcon Knights. Least Favorite: Fighter/Warrior say what you want about archers but at least they are made entirely irrelevant (in my opinion) by another class because at no point is a Warrior more useful then a Berserker. What they can use bows, oh you mean they have the option to make themselves easy targets because of their poor defense and speed and that is if they actually hit, nope hand axe is better, by miles as are Berserkers.
  4. Favorite games played this year that I had not played before (I revisited a lot of games this year and Windwaker HD and Majora's Mask 3D count as a revisit for me as well) 1. Mother 3 2. Fallout 4 3. Fire Emblem 4 4. Undertale 5. Bioshock Infinite 6. The Last of Us (Remastered) 7. Loz: A Link Between Worlds 8. Ni No Kuni: Wraith of the White Witch 9. Xenoblade X (loving it so far I put this low only because I have not had enough time with it) 10. Earthbound 11. Smash 4 (3DS) 12. Wolfenstein: The New Order 13. Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze 14. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon 15. Device 6 (more like a interactive novel but it is really good) It's funny only 3 of these game actually came out this year (Fallout 4, Xenoblade X, and Undertale)
  5. Just like every one else I found out about fire emblem first though Meele. FE 7 was my first Fire Emblem, and I probably bought because I liked advanced wars (I just don't remember I just know I got it close to it's original release), both me and my brother had copies as well as a couple of my friends and we all played FE 7 & 8 together when they came out it was a great time I adored both games and they where the first GBA games would I play at home. I remember the time I told my mom I wanted to be a Assassin (basically wanting to be Jaffar my favorite character) for Halloween, she flipped out and I had settle for being a thief which she still was not happy with. sadly I was the only one to make the console jump.... GBA was such a great system, FE 7&8, Advanced Wars, Final Fantasy Tactic Advanced, Pokemon Ruby/S/E, and so many other great games....
  6. I got them both the day of launch and for both Path of Radiance and Radiance Dawn, only GameStop had them and they only had one or two (I can't remember) copies, and they changed me 60$ for 50$ games, (Ie. 10$ over MSRP, I am not talking about 50$ plus tax, I am talking 60$ plus tax) both times just cause they could (I never seen this though for any other game). I hate GameStop to this day for that reason... well at least they had them in.
  7. I have playing Fire Emblem since I was young and so I didn't know how to pronounce at lot of the name in the and a lot of these have stuck with me for example I say Weave-Ren instead of Whyv-Ren I still think Weave-Ren sounds cooler... I said Drew-Rude instead of Drew-Ied I said Rang-Gald instead of Raggin-Aled Before Fe 10 I said Boar-Ick instead of Be-Orc Some of these mispronounced names found there way to my own stories I have a Character named Ranggald, and a group of dark wizards called Drudes According to internet I am the stereotypical old school Fire Emblem Fan (ie my Favorite Fire Emblems are 4,7,9 and I don't entirely love 10, and 13, and Hate 11) by if go by this place, the old school fanbase of Fire Emblem is more like the Zelda fanbase where most of the games all have there own followers and there haters, though no Zelda Cycle... I rarely off turn animations My Opinions that are not Popular(as far I know) FE 4, 7, and 9 Stories are not just great - but are amazing and FE 8 is still good all other FE stories are absolutely terrible, even Sticker Star is better then all of them combined. The only thing good about FE 11 is Beck (mabye Tiki) FE 10's started as Fan Fiction, cause it sure reads like one. If FE 13's story had taken place entirely during the first act it would have been great. FE 4 would suck without a emulator its maps are just to long for its own good but a emulator fixes all its problems. I do not want a remake of any Fire Emblem game until IS can prove that they will not mess it up, I have no faith in IS anymore, there last amazing game with story to match was Super Paper Mario, and to think they uses to be one of my favorite developers. I still like IS though. I would have no problems with all the changes that were FE 11-14 if any the changes (beside double battles) actually made it more unique like FE 4 did, instead of making it more like every other turn based strategy game, that is one reason things like class changing, and weapons not braking, and grinding, soon all they will need are AOE attacks and a Isometric perspective and there will be nothing unique about it.
  8. Great Lists guy and gals, and now after doing the stats I was able to deuce the following a Fire Emblem Forum's favorite game series is actually Fire Emblem, though Zelda is sneaking up on it...
  9. That my boy is the point, FE 7 story is basically one long counter argument to Zephiel motives, and at it's heart it is a tragic tale. FE 7 main theme's are the goodness in man and family can affect a persons life in life and in death and not just parents but brothers and sisters (which is where Hector and Nino come in). The game brings the character to there lowest to highlight what they do in these times, for example "after they come back the dread isle, Eliwood is lamenting his fathers death to besides himself to go on, Nils and Ninian tell Eliwood of the time they spent at the dragon's gate and what his father did for them there. While they languished away in there his father would often tell they stories of his son and his family, and happy times he had with them, he did this to help keep their spirits up. As you can see from this and his family was his main source of happiness and when he thought to cheer up Ninian and Nils, this was the first place you went to in this we can see from this this man's family is what got him and Nils and Ninian, through this tough ordeal." In his hardest trial Elbert's family is what pulled him though, Elbert and love for his family broke though to Nils and Ninian, and gave them hope. knowing his fathers love moves Eliwood to start again, The juxtaposition to Zephiel here is sweet, whereas Elbert gave Eliwood hope to move on, Desmond hate cause Zephiel to lose hope and give up, Elbert wiling gave his life for Eliwood, but Desmond repeatedly tried to take Zephiel life and in the end it was it Guinevere who ended his life. In a way FE 7 could also be about how to deal with grief and how different people cope. It's about how to help others have hope, to not judge, and be the best we can. At it's heart FE 7 is about Imperfection, by the end of this game every ever characters have shown themselves to be a bit of a hypocrite, Hector and Matthew refusing to forgive Jaffar, Lyn refusing to seek pirates for passage, Eliwood killing the very woman who loved him more then anything else. FE 7's world, characters, and villains are flawed, but at there heart good people somewhere down the line they may have fallen, but none of them started that way, (as they the road to hell is paved in good intentions) and many pick themselves up, or have someone help them from where they have fallen. (Renault, Jaffar). This is to show that despite how flawed people are despite how cruel the world is, that live is life is worth living and people worth keeping. The most important parts of game are from the Dread Isle on, so I don't agree, even without FE 6 the game still has the same overall message and this part is important to that message. I fail to see how FE 7 does not do any of things you said...... Look, Lyn Mode was likely added further in the development of FE 7 after cause after Advance Wars sold well overseas to nintendo's great surprise, they decided to ship Fire Emblem overseas, and because Nintendo literally thought that the reason Turn Based Strategy games would not sell over here is cause we are to stupid to handle them... so they had IS make this super long tutorial so the Overseas dum dums would understand the game... Look I think that Lyn mode does a commendable job of foreshadowing and containing a condensed version of FE 7's narrative but in the end it feels tacked on because it literally was. For something they likely never planned to include in the first place, they did fairly well and managed to create something that though tacked on add a little bit to the story. It should have ended sooner, but they thought we were to stupid for Fire Emblem so...... FE 9 is supposed to feel like you are for hire so for 2/3 of the game you are not the moving things along everyone else is until Ike come to own and the goals of Employer become his own. Your suppose to feel the man doing the dirty work not the one making all the choices nope not tell you are made a lord and lead the army. This moving up the chain is part of what makes Ike a such great character... oh and Family is not a theme of FE 9's just a topic, (it has no commentary on the subject) The main themes of FE 9, are Racism (and to a lesser extent Classicism), Revenge, Loyalty & Trust, and, Government & Leadership. Okay that is good for now.
  10. This is really long sorry for the novel.... and the typos Nope not tiring, cause your are entitled to your Opinion, if FE 7's story didn't click with you that is fine with me (it it being tiring would also insulate that am insecure about the quality of FE 7's story, I am not and there are very solid reasons I love it so much) , I heard people say Twilight Princess has better atmosphere then Majora's Mask (the king of atmosphere) and to me that is totally wrong, but hey that is there opinion. But here is why I love it's story more then 9 & 4. (both of which I adore) It is because 7 is deeper and more dedicated to it's themes (rather unique themes for a video game at that) then either of those games. So what are the main theme's of FE 7 well here is a quote from my essay " In FE 6 the main antagonist is King Zephiel a man who lost complete faith in mankind do to his father’s repeated attempts to kill him and the chaos that was his family. So in FE 7 they decided to further explore what drove a man such as Zephiel to his breaking point, not explicitly mind you, but they would explore how someone’s family can affect them for good or bad. They would speak as well about the value of life and that people could improve and change. Which properly juxtaposes with Zephiel view that all men deserve to die, because we all at our heart, selfish. And so the main themes of FE 7 are, Family, the value of life, and the goodness in man. The exploration of these themes in 7 are big way that 6 (even though 6 hardly has a story) and 7 are connected. " The rest of the game is insanely dedicated to these themes and here is one example again from my essay: "Hellene and Desmond marriage was a forced marriage done for political reasons. There relationship is totally devoid of love and because Desmond loved a different person and he can't see Hellene and by extension Zephiel as anyone other that the symbol of what was taken away from him. Therefore Hellene became an object of resentment for Desmond, Hellene tried make it work it but Desmond's hatred and unfaithfulness eventually led to Hellene becoming as bitter and hate filled as him. This lead them become a essentially divorced, and the family became split with Hellene and Zephiel living in a one castle and Desmond and Guinevere living in the other Castle (I'm sorry Eliwood but your Queen is living in another castle.... Sorry could not pass the joke). Then they started using the kids as a part of their plans to get back at each other. Desmond pushing for Guinevere's future husband to be king, and Hellene pushing for Zephiel to be king. This is not a power struggle, if Desmond just wanted to maintain power he could easily influence Zephiel as he idolizes his father and wants nothing more that his acceptance and the family to be together again (and he worked insanely hard so he could get his approval but since Zephiel was so naturally skilled at everything it just made Desmond jealous of his skill). No this is all about spite, and I going to tell you the modern divorce parallels here pretty crazy on point. (something I didn't really think about tell I started typing about it.)" Okay with that out way I will address the rest of your statement 1."but when you remove the fluff, the actual plot largely boils down to going from point A to point B and having random skirmishes along the way" The basic plot of everything is going from A to B ie. Remove the fluff from Lord of the Rings and all it about is a boy going from his house to mount doom to drop off a ring 2. "I think Lyn's mode personifies the issues with FE7's plot perfectly:" Here is quote of a example of the theme in Lyn's story from my essay "And near the end of the campaign we learn that Lyn parents where not accepted by her father and though there was different a reason for it, this still reflective of Zephiel plight. But the difference was in the results because Lyn mother lived a happy life even after her father shunned them, why because she loved her husband and she loved her family, something Zephiel did not have as he even distanced himself from Guinevere his sister." But I will agree that Lyn's campaign is largely unimportant because it was designed to be a tutorial to introduce fire emblem to people overseas and can by entirely skipped if a person has a copy of binding blade, it hardly reflects the rest of FE 7. 3. Everything is under used (when no one dies seems like a good time to have other characters actually be important, for instance, and Lyn is never important after this, nor even that important in it), From game design perspective Lyn mode is actually quite a good introduction for the player to the many things the player will encounter in the coming game, for example the Dorcas chapter teaches about defend chapters and how to recruit but works with the theme of the game, again from my essay "Dorcas it in the chapter he is introduced applies to theme fairly well. In the chapter Dorcas needing money for his sick wife take a job with some bandits which ironically enough end up attacking his own wife. After Lyn talk to him he realize the error of ways his that what doing put people like his wife in danger and end up joining up with Lyn." And Lyn does not drive the plot, yes, but she create many great character moment with other people like for example again from my essay "On the ship before the battle on hector mode, Lyn and Hector have a very cool conversation. In it we learn that Hector's parents are as well are dead though in a less tragic way then Lyn's. As they in on in this conversation and remiss reminisce over their shared tragedy of losing their parents, they contemplate how they do not want Eliwood to face the same grief that they have and to lose his father and is big reason for them helping Eliwood." "A small little note here but good to point out nonetheless is that Uhai refuses to straight up kill her when he has the chance because that would not be honorable and because she's a woman from the Sacae, showing that the black fang are not just cold blooded murderers. This is your first (if I remember right) big hint at the heart of the black fang, that these are not your typical bad guys." I would also like to remind that Ike does not drive the plot Path of Radiance, nope Elincia, Greil, and Sanaki do, a character does have to drive the plot to be important, Lyn unique situation add the games themes and overall character development. 1.it's really forced and thin, is unable to work within the confines of being FE6's prequel, and pretty much the entire section of the game is going to Caelin, with bandits and Black Fang getting in your way. It's at most four chapters of plot, counting the prologue, spread over ten chapters. At no point does the goal change, and that's just a problem which permeates the FE7 in general. It is connected to FE 6 by it's themes but as said before but here is one more example "when Lundgren is trying to kill Lyn’s Father he did so by poisoning him, this is the same way that Zephiel father tried killing him that finally set him off and the difference here again is in the reaction, Zephiel went for revenge and Lyn’s father went for absolution, to right what he did wrong with his kids." The only chapter I really count as filler is the Merlinus chapter, The rest always have something important in them some more that others, but there is always something. The goal the game goes from get your dad, to find Athos, to get the sacred weapon, to get Nergal, those are four goal changes (and for the extremely technical man 2) so much for no goal change in the rest of the game. Okay That was long..... I will try to keep the rest short I agree It could have been done better but I think the concept is better than that of a robin like character and I like the little character moments you get as a chapter starts especially the one you get if you bring Matthew out after Leila dies. I don't like the concept of Avatars in general but if they are going to do it anyways I prefer a mark to a robin. Oh that is what he meant, I thought he said fire emblem did not have enough political conflict... Okay so I agree now, but will still say that is it not the content of a story that matters as much as how it is executed. I am just of the mind that story and gameplay should be equal parts important if a game chooses to dedicate time to making one, story should not important in a Mario platformer, A Mario Rpg on the other hand should also have a great story, ignoring this is how like Sticker Star come to be (though it failed on both fronts). If more of the industry would take story and gameplay hand in hand we would get more game like Mother 3, and Shadow of the Colossus, because video games can more just fun they can tell stories no other type of art can, and when the industry finial stops trying to be Hollywood we will see more game that show what games can do like Shadow of the Colossus. My FE 10 rant is to long that will come another time.
  11. Child of Light (though it's on everything) is a good indie RPG Grim Fandango Remaster is a great classic if you looking for a good laugh and story I don't suggest DA: I it bored me to death (mabye it is cause I never played the other Dragon Age game but just found it's combat weird and boring) Do third person shooter adventure games count? but I really wouldn't classify the following Games as third persons shooters (like gears of war) but they are more of a action adventure game and the other one is a surivival game. The Uncharted Collection (great story like a great Indian jones movie, they are very linear, very set piece driven and the main mode of gameplay is third person shooting with some climbing) The Last of Us Remastered (great story just don't believe the people who it is the greatest thing since sliced bread it good but not "the Citizen Kane of gaming" the game has horror elements but It is more a thiller the game is a third shooter with survival elements. As of Current standing the PS4 is my least used system (because now have a powerful pc) I really bought the thing for Uncharted 4, and The Last Guardian (and whatever that game company (the guys that made Journey) makes in the future), but Horizion Zero Dawn look cool... basically I will not even use it till 2016... I should have waited
  12. ya I otherwise it might take me a century to finish too finish the dang thing no I am just carefully budgeted, I must have self control, I cannot buy everything I want. so I don't preorder like ever (I am against preorders as a rule but this is the only way to get all 3 bundled together)... especially online so I don't know how it works, so does this apply for Amazon and so forth, do I just add my card and it only charges on the day I know this is how it work in stores I didn't know if this how it worked online... and to be clear I liked Awakening cause i like turn based strategy games I just didn't love it.... so I will like birthright as long as I can play with made up rules but I will only play it once max if I make it though... I just don't like the idea of having only 1/3 of a game, even it if I don't like the rest of it... wait... does Revelation actually play well, I heard it was the worst of the three people calling it gimmick emblem or something... Hopefully it is about the same price, is the SE only 10 bucks less right? but there that part of me that says if I end up the other parts down the line anyways I could have had a art book too ... but then there is part of me that says I will not like the other two parts and payed higher then console prices for a handheld game... basically I just need people to talk me off the edge I shouldn't buy the special edition but I can't help but want it...
  13. Okay so I am getting Fate Conquest no matter what (because it's gameplay sound like actual fire emblem versus awakening) but right now I only got about 80 buck to spend right now and I was going to use it to buy Undertale and Xenoblade X (when add tax this just a little more then enough the 70 tag would not leave enough for undertale), but when I started the fate SE preorder actual go away in like a day's time I saw that next time the it goes up I have to buy it so I can't wait tell enough money again... I could ask of Xenoblade X for christmas but then I would not have enough time to play it before college starts and the game is just to long otherwise so... I am tore...
  14. I going to go against the grain I suggest that if you have a Xbox One to get Halo 5, and join forgehub.com, the forge community is great and there are not many places better to learn how to design a game versus just make one, (if you want to know more just talk to me I am former big member of the forge community on the matchmaking side of things ie. I can tell you what to do, who to talk to ect. sadly i do not have the time for it anymore or have Xbox One so...) the advantage of something like this is you will have a active to test if you have applied the knowledge you learn about design just know it is not easy and requires a lot work, like all thing in life. there is also Little Big Planet if you a PlayStation 3 - or 4 sadly the community is probably died by now knowing the quality of LBP 3, & and I guess Mario Maker on Wii U but I think it tools a too limited to learn much at all.. anything else I could suggest already has so good luck.
  15. My you are picky, oh and Fire Emblem 4 & 7 & 9 (and 8 while not amazing is still great) say hello (though 6, 10, 11, and 13 (though if it stopped after the first part it's story could have been good) do all have very very bad writing) (i can and did http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=58047&hl= write essays (i know never finished but that is my bad for being lazy not the games) about these games so they must be pretty good...) Agree , though FE 7 Mark actually works really wells allows the player personal investment without having a robin like character In 10 this is true but in 9 Ike is a really well developed character though 10 had to come and make a boring cuttout badass, seriously sometimes I wonder if IS just up and fires their writers after every game of cause there is no way the same person who wrote 9 wrote 10 and so on for every game.... ????????? what Fire Emblem doesn't have political conflict as a big part of it plot................. I mean 4 is the most fixed on the subject and it's story is good but.... I get don't this comment.... most of not all the Fire Emblem have these elements in them and it not what make them good, it is all about how you do it. ie. The political conflict in 10 actually undermines it's plot with bad villians and bad plot devices like the blood pact, or it could be like 4 and actually execute it well. overall Fire Emblem could use improvement, but I think that if they actually keep and work with there writers, not just I don't know, having some random anime creator write you in story so they can butcher it in post, they could make better games... no but seriously after playing all the fire emblem again back to back it became really clear that IS has no in house writers they just hire new one for every new game (the only games that could possibly be written by the same person is 7 and 8 as they are written similarly) which make sense with Nintendos active policy of gameplay first story second (this is a real thing at Nintendo it is their policy to make story a afterthought) sadly, though some of the best story's in games have come from Nintendo (Mother 3, Majora's Mask, FE 4, 7, and 9) and some that are still they tend have great ones as well (Paper Mario 1-3, the rest of the 3d Zelda's, FE 8, and Earthbound, Xenoblade, and some others) for the most part though Nintendo really does think it matters, that fact the stories in 4, 7, and 9 are as good as they are is amazing, and Majora's Mask and Mother 3 being some of best stories ever told is nothing short of a miracle, So I praise Nintendo every time they start heading the right direction, cause we all know story does not mean much to them, don't believe me, FE 10 is living proof it being nothing more though a bad FE 9 fan fiction(Majora's Mask 3ds as well, but that was greezo not nintendo). TLDR: IS (as Skyward Sword and Xenoblade are there most resent great stories) need to take notes from Zelda Team and Monolith Soft and actually write a good story for the first time since Super Paper Mario.
  16. I love the Megaman X series (1-5, ZX) they are my favorite platformers but man to this day I have never better beaten one of them because of Sigma I can never get passed his third stupid form. (I hate three form bosses) I also never beat the final boss in Kingdom Heart 3D because I didn't want to grind. I just watched the end.
  17. I always though this was interesting question to ask people. You can also explain why they are your favorites if you like. Also to keep this interesting try to keep the list to one per series ie. if I didn't do this my list would almost entirely consist of fire emblem and zelda games and that would be boring to read. but if you to want to honorably mention other game in the series just put them in a parenthesis next to the game. My parenthesis are also in order of favorite, but you don't have to do that. okay here is my top 10, 9 and 10 where the hardest to choose for me because that's about where I start running out of games I am truly passionate about, I still love 9 and 10 though. 1. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, N64 version (Windwaker, Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess) 2. Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (Path of Radiance, Genealogy of the Holy War) 3. Mother 3 (earthbound) 4. Bioshock (Bioshock Infinite) 5. Shadow of the Colossus 6. Fallout 4 (3) 7. Okami 8. Halo 3 (2, 1, Odst, Reach) 9. Undertale 10. Mass Effect 2 (Not Very) Current Stats Scores are done by scale of 1.1- 2.0 (going up .1 for each higher placement ie. number 4 on the list would be 1.7 points)on a list would be points per placement on list , it goes up in increment of .2 for the lists of 5 games, ie. 1.2, 1.4 ect. In order to keep these stat fun to read, at the current time I will make it so that a game must have a score higher then 4 or be a part of a series listed here to be listed here, and for the series list the total score has to be higher then 10 and 3 or more games in the series must be on people's lists. individual games are listed in the spoilers Singles Game ratings Current total highest game is Loz Ocarina of Time: 15.2 Stat Totals for games by series 1. Fire Emblem: 64.7 Current Highest FE 13: 12.1 2. The Legend of Zelda: 50.9 Current Highest Zelda OoT: 15.2 3. Pokemon: 33.3 Current Highest Pokemon Ruby/S/E: 10.6 4. Final Fantasy: 26.5 Tie for Highest FF V & X: 7.4 5. Mario (Platforms)/ Yoshi: 24.7 Current Highest Mario is Mario 64: 5.4 6. Persona: 16.7 Current Highest Persona is Persona 4: 7.7 7. Tie Mario Rgp's; 14.1 & Current Highest Mario Rgp is Paper Mario TTYD: 4.4 7. Metroid 14.1 Current Highest Metroid is Metroid Prime: 8.4 8. Super Smash Bro's: 13.7 9. Castlevania: 10.2
  18. Well... I had a long post but....care if add to the shadow dragon hate cause I really hate shadow dragon like alot. I love all the fire emblem games (some more then others), but I hate shadow dragon, bad maps, far to many units plus instant class switching equals me not if any one , a story worse then 6's none existent story (at least 6's adds to 7's story well they both improve each other), in fact the only I like about it is Beck (who is really fun) and I guess the music.... which is not all that great (tiki's song is really good). Shadow Dragon is the only one I actively dislike, though I seem to dislike Awakening more and more as time goes on..... number 2 which is still good is 13(for having super one dimensional characters can be explained to two words even after supports like Miriel (likes studying), Gaius (likes candy), Vaike (is dumb) ect., story going off the deep end in the second half, and some broken stuff and mixed niggles like no light magic , also War Monks, Valkyries, Sages, and Knights/Generals sucking, mixing magic and weapon users to much (it's like in the tellius games why on earth would I give my sage a knife ie the dark rider's pointless sword) with classes that make little sense for it, a coupled dark magic user can wipe out entire armies that are several levels them above with Nosferatu, which cheap and easy to get, ect), number 3 which are still great games are 10 (for lacking any kind of focus and giving the perfect example of how to turn a good story into a bad one, there is no way the same person that wrote fe 10 wrote fe 9) , and 6 (to many units, some weird maps, weird hit percents the whole game, and like no story). number 4 is 8 which has no stand out problems, but just feels somewhat uninspired, still amazing though(great characters and villain's, solid gameplay). number 5 is 4 a absolutely amazing and unique game, I just haven't played enough of it (only beat it once) know if it is a masterpiece, and it has it's flaws. And 7 and 9 are Masterpieces, and works of art. I have deeply studied both 7 and 9 (as they are both worthy of it) their character feel real (which the two exceptions being Lowen and Illaya) and their stories are both masterful and deep, never shoving their theme's in your face, being enjoyable on the surface and profound when put under the microscope. The gameplay in both is also balanced with almost no bad units and some of the best map design in the series, and really they just are Fire Emblem at it's best in my less then humble opinion. haven't played enough of 5 to really say but is not looking good for it... yet to play the rest.
  19. That is good point but Nergal didn't learn his lesson fully. Let me explain, the cheating comparison is still apt here so I will use that.... Have you seen the lengths some people will go to cheat on a test? I once hear of a kid who put a small piece of paper inside his watch that could move with the dial spinner and he still got caught, that is crazy in the time the kid used to create this he could have just studied for test and put forth less effort, it is a special form of irony that cheaters have deal with as they have to go though more and more elaborate means to continue cheating in the end putting more effort than if they applied themselves to studying normally (ie. the seemingly easy way out turns to harder way out as there is not easy way out). Nergal very much operates on this same form of irony, spending years in shadows gaining power only to lose it all when Athos defeated him and again when Elbert stabbed him, he never learns a truly patience man would reconsider his actions, instead of just changing his approach, Nergal drive for power in a seemingly easy way (by taking it from dragon's) in the end turned out to be harder. in short cheater never prosper, a truly patience hard working man knows this and earns his knowledge.
  20. True all it, but I never said Athos was as powerful as Nergal after all quintessence he gotten (let alone Bramimond) in fact when Nergal defeats Athos in battle he marks it as a mile stone of the power of he gained over time, but he gained this power off the back of others he does not believe in his own base ability, because he own he is not that powerful on his own merits this is shown when Elbert stabs him (in effect weakening him to normal power) and the moment of truth happens and Nergal would have to use only his base power he runs and then proceed to wait around and get more quintessence, because Nergal is a leech and lacks the patience to powerful on his own. Remember Nergal feared Athos he had already beaten him once, and at base level Athos is alot more powerful then him because the power Athos though patience he keeps because it is all his own, and want Nergal gains off the back others he loses because because was never his to begin with, kind of like when you cheat on a test in moment you may do good but that knowledge will not stick with you. btw. Athos could do most things Nergal can do, but the key is that he chooses not to do them. On to Bramimond thank you for pointing out the Sacrifice theme I missed that, though I still think that Bramimond certainly exhibits a ton patience as well though (I mean waiting in a room with no one else for ages, that is patience) getting that kind of power requires as much patience as it does sacrifice. But the sacrifice thing is one thing where both Athos and Nergal fell short as neither were willing to sacrifice themselves for that kind power, Athos out of fear of becoming like Nergal and Nergal out of selflessness and need to control everything in life, the man Nergal had become was totally incapable of preforming the type of sacrifice necessary to become like Bramimond. Athos in turn when he saw what became of friend he became to fearful to even try. Both Athos and Bramimond are meant to be compared to Nergal cause both exhibit aspects that Nergal lacks (and in Athos case, have history with him), though Bramimond is admittedly the more apt comparison. Oh i am totally stealing your first line for the main post :)
  21. Sorry for the double post but...... I promised to update this week so...... Anyways I was busy this week so I updated with what I got so far and a little extra from the end the game, I will finish the Bern section next week.
  22. @Paper Jam. Ya I am still working on it, I hope to have the next section up by the end of the week maybe sooner this was just a crazy week with school and other stuff....
  23. Updated, with the first of three sections, this section is not as interesting as the other ones will be, but I hope you like it regardless. The next section will the Bern chapters and I should finish it in 2-3 days maybe sooner. Also tell me anything I missed and I will add it to the Op.
  24. I am not going to bore you with too long an introduction but let’s just say I wanted to over-analyze the crap out of Fire Emblem 7’s incredible story (to show people there much more to the story meets the eye). Also anyone who wants to do the same for other fire emblems can do here as well (if no one does it I may do 9 as well which also has a really good story,) BTW MASSIVE spoilers are in going to be in this thread (duh). So let’s begins I am going to start with basic overview talking a little about FE 6. In FE 6 the main antagonist is King Zephiel a man who lost complete faith in mankind do to his father’s repeated attempts to kill him and the chaos that was his family. So in FE 7 they decided to further explore what drove a man such as Zephiel to his breaking point, not explicitly mind you, but they would explore how someone’s family can affect them for good or bad. They would speak as well about the value of life and that people could improve and change (this is mainly shown by Jaffar and Nino). Okay with that out of the way let’s start up Okay so I don’t want to write a 12 page essay so I am not going to go in to crazy detail and I am not going to do a plot summary Lyn’s story Though it might seem kind of irrelevant Lyn’s story does play into the theme here well especially with FE 6 in mind. Here is a couple of point 1. Dorcas it in the chapter he is introduced applies to theme fairly well. In the chapter Dorcas needing money for his sick wife take a job with some bandits which ironically enough end up attacking his own wife. After Lyn talk to him he realize the error of ways his that what doing put people like his wife in danger and end up joining up with Lyn. 2. When they happen upon Nils and he pleaded with them to help rescue Ninian, Lyn is faced with a choice of weather to help Nils and risk not reaching her grandfather in time, or leave cause ain't nobody got time for that. But Lyn go to help Nils even though she risks not be able to see her grandfather alive a selfless act indeed, that ended up paying off in the end. 3. And near the end of the campaign we learn that Lyn parents where not accepted by her father though there was different a reason for it, this still reflective of Zephiel plight. But the difference was in the results because Lyn mother lived a happy life even after her father shunned them, why because she loved her husband and she loved her family, something Zephiel did not have as he even distanced himself from Guinevere his sister. 4. This is more Easter eggy then anything but when Lundgren is trying to kill Lyn’s Father he did so by poisoning him, this is the same way that Zephiel father tried killing him that finally set him off and the difference here again is in the reaction, Zephiel went for revenge and Lyn’s father went for absolution, to right what he did wrong with his kids. And that it for Lyn's story (at least that I feel the need to point out at the moment). but I will update with the Eliwood and Hector campaigns soon, I wasn't going to post until I was finished but the site decided otherwise, so I will update it bit by bit as I have time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok time to start on Eliwood's/Hector's story 1. One of the of most notable thing about Fe 7 is that unlike every other fire emblem (to my knowledge from a thread I read here this also applies to the couple of Fire Emblems I have not played yet namely 2, 3/12, I have played a small amount of 5) in event that gets the ball rolling is not is when bla bla Country suddenly attacks bla bla Country. Though Nergal gets the country of Laus to join his cause by appealing to Darin ambition, they are hardly the main driving force in the plot and are not even close to the main enemy, which is Nergal and the black fang. The main thing that get the plot started is when Elbert goes missing and Eliwood goes to find him, worrying for his safety. The are bits and thing that happen between the beginning and the port of badon but I will cover that later and go to the section the Port of Badon though the Dread Isle. 1. When they go to the port to get a ship they soon find out that no one will take them to the dread isle but Fargus and his crew who are Pirates. This sets Lyn off cause view Pirates the same as the Bandits who killed her entire clan. Therefore she will not trust them as she thinks all these type of people are the same. But it turns out that Fargus has a heart of gold (kinda like the situation with Gonzalez in fire emblem)offering alternative to paying the price in goal, offering to protect them on the ship, recusing Ninian out at sea, and giving them one of his most trusted crew members dart to help them out. Dart is also a great example of how Fargas is as a person, while Dart is in conversation with Farina, Farina starts talking to Dart about treasure and Dart expresses interest in finding a rare pirate treasure. When Farina asks him what he would do with all the money Dart says that all he wants to do with the treasure is hide it again for someone else to find it because he doesn't really want the money he just likes the thrill of finding treasure. This is the thing about Fargus he could've taken their money on the port as the only way for them to support his ship but he offers them the option to of a challenge for the fun of it because Fargus goes on pirate adventures for the thrill of it. 2. On the ship before the battle on hector mode, Lyn and Hector have a very cool conversation. In it we learn that Hector's parents are as well are dead though in a less tragic way then Lyn's. As they in on in this conversation and remiss reminisce over their shared tragedy of losing their parents, they contemplate how they do not want Eliwood to face the same grief that they have and to lose his father and is big reason for them helping Eliwood. 3. While they were heading to the dread isle Nergal busts Leila's cover and orders Jaffar to kill her and place her body in a place where they can find it on the dread isle. When they land Matthew and Hector find Leila's body. Hector swears revenge against Nergal, The Matthews reaction is super sweet and reflects genuine sorrow and he comments on how he had planned to ask Leila to settle down with him after he was finished with this, but he laments that he was too late and should've asked sooner (frankly I wish I had the quote with me because the way Matthew says it is perfect). After that he only asked that he's given time to find somewhere to bury her. What's really cool is that if you bring Matthew into the next battle with you he will comment to you that this is no time for mourning that Leila would've wanted wanted for him to help you right now. This and his reaction to Leila's death is one the things that makes Matthew as a character so great. This also greatly effect Hector and Matthew's thoughts on Jaffar later on. 4. A small little note here but good to point out nonetheless is that Uhai refuses to straight up kill her when he has the chance because that would not be honorable and because she's a woman from the Sacae, showing that the black fang are not just cold blooded murderers. This is your first (if I remember right) big hint at the heart of the black fang, that these are not your typical bad guys. 5. And then they finally arrived at Dragon the gate (thanks to Uhai directions) they meet up with Ephidel and Nergal. Ephidel stops to greet them, Hector tries to kill Ephidel fails to hit him and Ephidel kidnaps Ninian. When they arrived the dragon's gate they find miracle there with new unit dragon's gate they find Nergal there with Ninian and Nils using them to open the gate. Elbert still weak from all the quintessence Nergal has been sucking out of uses the last of his strength to stab Nergal in the back causing Nergal to be temporarily weakened and to abandoned (so can't control the dragons), but it was the last bit the strength Elbert had so he also died shortly after the Gate partially opened and Nergal now gone. Eliwood and company escape, Nergal having left Ephidel then causing him to be destroyed. Showing Nergal’s lack of care for what he created and Elbert selfless nature. 6.The last little part in the section that I want to talk about happens right after the land back in the portable and The last little part in the section that I want to talk about happens right after the land back from the dread isle. Nils and Ninian tell Eliwood of the time they spent at the dragon's gate and what his father did for them there. While they languished away in there his father would often tell they stories of his son and his family, and happy times he had with them, he did this to help keep their spirits up. As you can see from this and his family was his main source of happiness and when he thought to cheer up Ninian and Nils, this was the first place you went to in this we can see from this this man's family is what got him and Nils and Ninian, through this tough ordeal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay with this section done we can move on the next two sections, which will be the most important. I will be covering the Bern chapters, Four fanged offense though Cog of Destiny. The section after that will be will be all about Nergal, the Morphs and the end of the game, these will next two section will be my next two updates. These might take a little longer to make as these two sections go very deep down the rabbit hole and could several pages (3-5 pages, long, for reference this one was 2) long not as many direct connections to Fe 6 here and there is not as much interesting stuff here as there will be in the other two sections, but I hope you like like it regardless. A couple chapter before we are introduced to Pent and Louise and they offer to help everyone though bern because Louise is a distant cousin and friend of the queen of bern. Something interesting is that the Queen Hellene and the King Desmond and Pent and Louise relationship where ment to compare (something I will do later) and contrast each with each other. Hellene and Desmond marriage was a forced marriage done for political reasons. (something I didn't really think about tell I started typing about it.) Okay I am still working on the other parts of this sections I will try to have the rest up next week. in the mean time here is something from the morph section talking about the end of the game So I have heard people say that Ninian being brought back to life at the end of the game is a Deus Ex Machina, well what if told you that while may be a bit cheap, it is not a Deus Ex Machina. You see magical resurrection is a well established as being possible in Fire Emblem 7, tell me what is Nergal army entirely made in the end of the game? Some Guy "The thing Nergal calls morphs which are the reanimated bodies of Nergals former army. But these people are just shells of their former selves, sure their bodies are active, but their souls are gone, this is far from the complete resurrection Ninian has. Me "True, these people are all shells with no sense of self or personality and this applies to every morph Nergal has made expect one. Sonia, who is self aware (to point of clamming repeatedly to be human) and has retained a small amount of personality and free will. Sonia is proof that Nergal experiments have led him closer to actual resurrection. But Nergal still lacked the power and knowledge to do it, something Bramimond has in spades. Bramimond sacrificed everything he knew for the power that he gained, his life, his gender, his personality, all into the darkness. He becomes a reflexion of the person standing in front of him, but he always retains that dark power. Also Ninian's resurrection does serve a purpose to the plot, as when Brammimond does shows that true resurrection is possible through righteous and honest means, he is meant to kind of be the reflection to Nergal showing all the power and Nergal could've attain and still not gone down the path he did. Brammimond also succeeded on his own in ways that Nergal do couldn't even by sucking the power of the greatest warriors around the land. This shows the value of patience and well as sacrifice, which is also at least when it comes to patience, a way that Athos was I was meant to contrast with Nergal showing how their past's split when Nergal who was his good friend greedily started seeking after things he didn't fully understand, but Athos even though he kept studying and searching for knowledge he did not fall into the same trap.
