  1. Happy Burfday!

  2. Happy birthday!

  3. Since Tal has been suspended until April 9th, I've come to give Duke of Dozel this bulletin in his place: Duke of Dozel, don't post your tier list in this thread. If you don't like the community driven list that Tal started, please start a new thread and create your own list. Tal's thoughts on Dew: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeXatquVqAc Dew is one of the greatest contributors to character funds. He only needs to hit an enemy to steal his/her gold, and magic swords are a thing as early as Chapter 2. He is one of the few characters that can easily acquire huge amounts of money (thanks to him being a thief) and can help any potential father or mother, as well as money deficient units in general, with funds by dumping money on them. Also, personal experience counts for nothing. Just an FYI. Here are some average stats for Dew: http://fea.fewiki.net/fea.php?character=dew&game=4 P.S: Until Tal gets back, I'm in charge of this tier list.
  4. When I read this thread, the question I asked myself was "Why do people use Nino?" While Nino has good stats if given investment, the thing is that I can put an equal amount of investment into another unpromoted unit (let's say Canas, Erk, or Lucius), and I can get more or less the same fucking result. Of course, most unpromoted units join way earlier than Nino does, and Canas, Erk, and Lucius are stronger relative to their enemies for a longer period of time. So in that sense, investing in a unit like Lucius is way more efficient than investing in Nino. And this is not even getting to Pent. While his potential isn't as good as hers, he still holds multiple insurmountable advantages over her. First off is the fact that Pent joins two chapters earlier with RNG proof stats. In order for Nino to roughly match base Pent, she would need to be 20/6 on average. And that's just stats. Pent also has superior weapon ranks (c'mon, do you really think Nino is gonna reach A staves without massive favoritism, considering she starts at E rank?), doesn't need to consume a guiding ring to be useful (and let's not kid ourselves, guiding rings are somewhat contested), and even has a built in A support with Louise (compare this to Nino, whose fastest support takes 18 turns for a C and 72 turns to max it out.) In other words, if you like Nino and want to use her because she's your favorite unit, who am I to stop you? But calling her a good unit is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard (Right up there with GrayLu being valid). Have a nice day.
  5. Happy Birthday, sorry for being a weeks late!!!

  6. Hey mate. When's the next installment of Death or Glory coming out? Just asking is all.

  7. Porygon/Porygon2/Porygon-Z Type: Normal Ability(s): Trace/Download (Porygon/Porygon2), Adaptability/Download (Porygon-Z) Man... it's been... damn. Almost 3 months. I've been away for too long. Probably because I got caught up in Fairy Tail shipping antics on DeviantArt. In previous generations, the only way to procure a Porygon was to buy one as a prize at your local casino. This is already bad enough, but to make things worse, Porygon came at the low, low price of... 9999 coins. This is already pretty ridiculous, considering that getting that amount is either time consuming or expensive. And would you waste time or money on a Pokemon that doesn't exactly have good endgame stats (only decent stat he has is 85 SpA. 40 speed combined with 65/70/75 bulk doesn't cut it lategame)? Due to these two things, Porygon was relegated to bottom tier trash. How does he fare in this game? Well, for starters, he's not gotten in the casino, instead being given to you for free by an NPC in one of the houses east of the shopping mall. This is already a huge improvement, but the biggest buff he got this generation, as far as ingame goes, is that he can be evolved immediately after acquisition if traded while holding the upgrade obtained from the Eterna Galactic building. The benefits of the evolution are that Porygon2 gets a little more speed to work with (though he is still quite slow), his special attack goes up to a meaty 105 base, but most importantly, his bulk goes up from 65/70/75 to 85/90/95, which combined with Recover, keeps him durable. So how does P2 fare against the various bosses in this game? Coming at Lv25 and knowing Psybeam at base, he can kind of do something against the trainers in Maylene's gym, but do take note that fighting moves are still super effective on him. Wake and Cyrus are also good matchups for him because of his access to powerful electric moves (P2 will have to make due with Shock Wave for Wake, as Discharge isn't learned until Lv40), but he isn't so hot against Byron. The fourth generation games were also kind enough to bless P2 with yet another evolution. By trading P2 to another game cart while holding a dubious disc (this item cannot be obtained until the player infiltrates the Veilstone Galactic building. It's quite funny that both items needed to evolve Porygon are found in Galactic strongholds), one can acquire Porygon-Z. Compared to P2, PZ loses a considerable amount of bulk (his HP remains the same, but his defenses revert to 70/75), but in exchange, his special attack and speed are increased by 30 points each, giving him damage output on par with that of Alakazam, with some decent speed to go along with it. Another advantage of the evolution is that PZ can learn Nasty Plot from the move relearner, allowing him to play set up against the vast majority of lategame enemies (Aaron, Bertha, and Lucian each have one Pokemon that you can set up on with relative safety.) One issue that the Porygon line has is the lack of good special STAB until lategame. For starters, Tri Attack isn't learned until Lv51, and while the Swift tutor could alleviate this a little, this option is unavailable until you reach Snowpoint, so you are still SOL most of the game. At the very least, P2 still has Return coming off a decent 80 base attack if you want to use that to fill the time. Other than this, he has a fairly expansive special movepool, getting moves like Discharge, Ice Beam, Psychic, Shadow Ball, and even Signal Beam. If you can't trade, let's just say that Porygon's stats will cause him to fall very far behind by the time the player gets out of Canalave. Still, Porygon is a lot better here than he was in previous generations. Untraded: 3 P2: 7 PZ: 7.5
  8. Chapter 22x: All Fired Up Type Specialty: Fire Recommended Types: Water, Ground, Rock Unrecommended Types: Grass, Bug, Ice, Steel [spoiler=Clyde] Sounds about right. Perfect. Never better. This place is just asking to be hosed down. And a hotblooded lass like her also needs to be hosed down. Basically, bring a water type. [spoiler=Trainers] I think the flames of loss are flickering. Ah, we don't see too many volcano enthusiasts in Pokemon games. I like guys like him. I think you're a fan of something ELSE Flan-chan has. Man, you seem to be in a fighting mood. I think you need to take a chill pill and cool the fuck down. Well... two of my Pokemon resist fire, and the other two are neutral. Kecleon is a rather peculiar Pokemon. Its stats suck outside of attack and special defense, but it has an ability that lets it change its type if it gets hit. More of a hindrance if anything. And this thing happens to pack Flamethrower. Ouch. Even on a non-STAB user with 60 SpA, 95 BP is quite painful this early on. That level up was... ok at best. Shame about the +0 speed. Wait... doesn't magma reach up to 1600C? That just proves you're quite stupid for sitting in a geyser for too long. How the hell was I suppose to know you were in that geyser? Yeah... I'd love to take a nap in some hot sand right now, to cure all my anxieties. Another badass level up from Numel. Most generic quote ever in this gym. At least the others actually made heat puns or gave useful information about volcanoes. [spoiler=Flannery] Hello, I am... I think you're coming off as somewhat rude. Make up your bloody mind. You've only been here, what, a few months tops? She couldn't have said anything better. Amen. Raven's level ups. This here is part of the reason why this fight is so tedious. Both Camerupt and Torkoal have Attract, making it that much harder to actually get anything to connect, and was the contributor to the video being as long as it is. However... this is what makes the fight truly difficult. 140 BP, especially with STAB, is dangerous even by endgame, but here, it's downright scary. And the fact that she likes throwing sun around makes it hurt a lot worse... Oh, and Torkoal has a white herb, which negates the -2 SpA drop from Overheat for one use. Heat Badge get! Fun fact: This badge alone will most likely cover for any traded Pokemon you use in the maingame, seeing as most endgame teams hover around Lv50. And finally, we can check out the rest of the fiery path! And we get a new weapon for Saka-san. In a nutshell, Overheat is best used in a hit and run style. It's freakishly powerful to start with, but you lose 2 stages of SpA every time you use it. Tabbed. [spoiler=May] Helllllllo, sweetcheeks. I take it you didn't enjoy the wrinkly old ladies, either... we should enter the hot spring together sometime. Yeah... about that... your team kind of sucks. Too bad it wasn't the engagement ring I was hoping for. And at long last, we can enter the desert... Actually, it's the complete opposite. You should be getting stronger, because compared to my team, yours really sucks. And speak of the devil. Norman did say he would open the gym to me once I had acquired 4 badges. hehe catch ya later. Next time on Pokemon Emerald Abridged: Stay tuned for Season 2... and oh great. Antlions.
  9. Lickitung/Lickilicky Type: Normal Ability(s): Oblivious/Own Tempo Man, I slept on this thread for quite a while... Another normal type that one can collect on his journey, Lickitung can be found in Route 215's grass at Lv20. And right off the bat, this thing has a shaky start. For starters, he shows up right before a fighting gym, of which he does poorly in due to being normal typed. And even if he didn't, he has poor offenses due to having 55Atk/60SpA, which is decidedly mediocre for this point in the game. Getting Stomp one level after capture helps, as does having 90/75/75 defenses, but let's get real here; Lickitung has some issues damaging things before evolution at Lv33 (when he gets Rollout), and 30 speed does not help in the slightest. Once he does evolve, Lickilicky's future starts to look slightly brighter. For starters, his offense has upgraded to a more respectable 85/80, and he gains a little more bulk and speed to go along with the improved attack. As far as movepool goes, one interesting move that Licki gets is Wring Out, learned at Lv53. What this move does is that it works like Eruption or Water Spout, but the damage is based on how much HP the target has. Really, it's not worth the trouble to get, as it really only works if your target is at around full HP. Outside of this, his coverage is standard normal type fare. He gets a few rare gems through level up, such as Power Whip (Lv49) and Gyro Ball (Lv57, good fucking luck getting this before the credits), and obviously, he has a wide TM and tutor movepool. While getting this TM is an absolute pain in the ass, an interesting option to teach him as Explosion. While this move could theoretically be taught to several other things, Licki is notable in that he is the ONLY Explosion user that gets STAB, which equates to him being able to kill practically any problematic Pokemon that doesn't resist normal (Cynthia's Garchomp, I'm looking at you.) However, getting this TM requires you to get 10 bonus rounds at the casino, which no one has any patience for (I certainly don't, as I suck at slot games and they are rigged anyway), so this is mostly irrelevant information, but it is worth mentioning. I really don't have much more to say here. 4
  10. Chapter 22: Lavaridge Host Springs and Herb Shoppe Sorry for the HUUUUGE delay. I had shit to do last month, and I wasn't able to update before I went to Disneyland. Hopefully, I should be able to humor you again. [spoiler=Lavaridge Proper] [spoiler=Lavaridge Hot Springs] hehe... all girls in Hoenn want to be like Flan-chan... Can't exactly say that I dislike them, persay. Hot sand baths are the best! They warm you up and remove all stress! Oh yeah, watch out for Trapinch! I see. Never been a fan of omelets. Or eggs in general. Baka! Eggs do not hatch if you stand still! She's trying to explain that eggs only hatch if they are in your party. Yeah? What about it? Only one problem... my party is full. I know what ya mean, keed. Hot springs can soothe your wounds and comfort your weariness. I think she's referring to how happiness is accumulated. Though walking is but one way to increase happiness. Wow... tell me something I do not know. Well, I just came out of a brutal fight with some terrorists, so... I'm so confused as to how the fuck that works... At least he gives a lesson on how hot springs work. False advertising 101. Don'tcha think it's strange to put your pets inside the hot tub anyway? Yeah... putting Pokemon inside the baths might not be such a good idea... And I'm getting creeped the fuck out. I am NOT staying in the hot springs with wrinkly old women. I'll come back when Flan-chan comes out of the gym to bathe here. Yeah, I know. Bought some biscuits there. By the way, you can buy Revives now. However, $1500 per revive is a fairly tall order at this point in the game. Yeah, I know. I've always wondered how Pokemon actually procreate... Baka! I'm 21! Isn't that what kids are supposed to do? Here's a rundown on what Mimic does: it allows the user to copy the last move used by the target, but only for the duration of the battle. It's not terribly useful by any stretch of the word. [spoiler=Herb Shoppe] I don't remember marijuana being legalized in Hoenn... This is a medicinal marijuana shoppe, yes. How is a piece of charcoal gonna get me high? See kids? Drugs are bad for you. Ok, here's the rundown on what the herbs do: Energy Powder: Super Potion clone Energy Root: Hyper Potion clone Heal Powder: Full Heal clone Revival Herb: Max Revive clone However, Pokemon really do not like the taste or the smell of weed, so don't give these to Pokemon that evolve through happiness. Decided to get this egg, because Wynaut? And speak of the devil, a Wynaut came out of the egg. Let it be known that this is most likely going to be the ONLY egg I'll hatch during the maingame. Wynaut: The best way to describe this thing is that it's basically a punching bag. It gets jack shit for an offensive movepool, being reliant on Countercoat for damage. I suppose Shadow Tag is somewhat interesting, but outside of Lati@s and safari park d00ds, nothing runs from you. Next time on Pokemon Emerald Abridged: 'Hehe... I'm getting all fired up!'
  11. Marill/Azumarill Type: Water Ability(s): Huge Power/Thick Fat First showing up on Route 215 at Lv21 on average, Marill can be a promising Pokemon to train. Right off the bat, he's of high enough of a level to evolve almost immediately after capture, thus skipping the rather painful unevolved phase that is Marill, though unfortunately, Azumarill's stats are still fairly bad. On one had, we have 100 HP and 80/80 defenses combined with water typing, which gives him usable bulk for a sweeper. On the other, we have... 50/50 attacking stats, which basically equates to Pachirisu level offense. What sort of contribution can we get out of this? Thankfully, Azumarill has one saving grace, that being the Huge Power ability. Like with Medicham's Pure Power, this ability doubles Azumarill's attack stat, giving him an attack stat comparable to monsters like Groudon and Rayquaza. Just like with what I said about this ability in the Emerald rating, Azumarill absolutely needs this ability to function, so it is best advised to get rid of any that have Thick Fat. One massive problem that Azumarill has over the course of the game is that he hardly gets any physical STAB. For starters, the Waterfall HM isn't available until after you defeat Volkner, and Aqua Tail, which would otherwise solve the issue, isn't learned until... Lv47, just as late as the Waterfall HM. Thankfully, the Dive tutor is available once you reach Pastoria, which is basically Waterfall which takes two turns. If you are not willing to spend shards, Azu is SOL until endgame. Beyond this, his physical movepool is pretty nice. Brick Break and Dig are two TMs that he can take early on for the sake of coverage, and once you reach Pastoria, he can pick up Ice Punch from the tutor there. Overall, great sweeper, but lack of physical STAB until endgame (or if you use the Dive tutor) really hurts him. 6.5
  12. Chapter 21: Jagged Pass Well, time to kick off the new year with an update, huh? Unfortunately, this one is quite short and I added some stuff unrelated to the topic just for padding. [spoiler=Jagged Pass] Too bad the graphics really don't allow you to see how jagged this place is. Hm, don't think I've seen this one yet. Some child's plaything with ground/psychic typing and good defenses. Thankfully, it hits like a little girl. Spoink: This pile of bacon bits is your alternative to Kazam and Gard if you want to be a little more 'stylish'. However, like those idiots in red suits, this thing isn't exactly stylish... or useful for that matter. [spoiler=Magma Goon] 'Huh? I just walked down a mountain. How 'bout you?' You're obviously jacking off to a Hustler magazine. I dunno. Just talking here to pad this chapter. Because it's pretty short. Oh come the fuck on! Your boss couldn't even stop me. What makes YOU think that you stand any meaningful chance against me? Yeah. Go back to jacking it. Looks flat enough to me. I'm gonna have to come back here anyway, since that cliff where that guy is masturbating at looks suspicious. Tabbed. How'd you do so without an acro bike? Which is why I tend to take things slowly. I dunno. All I know is that it's a Chekhov's gun. Protip: An acro bike is useful here. Decent, I guess. It's nice that he's not too far off from evolving. Because the first two forms of this line suck. And maybe come back with a less pathetic party while you're at it. Eh, may as well. It's actually really easy: take the fucking cable lift. It's like 50 paces from here and they charge nothing. [spoiler=Cosmo] Well, you're a retard for trusting them. I think he noticed the meteorite in my bag? Is this yours? No, but it's a duplicate I found on Mt. Chimney. Well... I have no use for a meteorite. I'll take up your offer, I guess. Something is telling me the TM he's giving me is NOT Earthquake. Return is a normal move that deals damage directly proportional to how much happiness the user has, going up to base 102 power. This is generally the go-to move for normal types, as well as things that have crappy physical movepools. I still don't get how one can be so enthusiastic about a fucking rock. Next time on Pokemon Emerald Abridged: 'Hotsprings, huh? I'd prefer screwing the gym leader right now. Nishishishishishi!'
  13. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
