I think it would be suicide to reveal at E3 now with Smash teased. Even if it was revealed it would be overshadowed by Smash. Heaven help FE Switch if it releases anywhere near Smash.

I think they mentioned it because at the time, there was no guarantee that the Switch would be a success. If the Switch ended up being another Wii U, Nintendo would've been in trouble. So Nintendo decided to prematurely announce FE to get people to buy the Switch. I think the same reasoning applies to the timing of the announcements of Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Switch. We don't know anything about those games other than that they exist. Now that the Switch is a success, Nintendo probably feels less pressure to announce more news (although if the Feb. direct rumor is true, FE may be talked about there).

I wonder if they will keep things pretty similar to Awakening and Fates. I know they always changed things when FE switched consoles in the past, but I wonder if that was because they had not found success with their current formula so they switched it up to try something new to see if that would sell better. Now that they have found a successful formula with Awakening and Fates, they might want to keep things as they are instead of risking that success.
