  1. Do yourself a favor and play the game with Japanese audio. The only thing you miss is some of the miscellaneous battle dialogue if you have no Japanese understanding. 2017 was the year I first noticed Cherami Leigh as well - I won't say I'm glad Echoes and Persona 5 don't have dual audio, but a small upside is that I'd have never found out about her voice work if they did.
  2. I think Ingrid's voice is really bland. From what I have heard out of her she sounds incredibly bored in the English dub. My favorite voice performance in the series is Cherami Leigh's Rhea. I don't play with the dub but I've listened to her performance and she remains one of the only English VAs I consistently enjoy listening to.
  3. Those are called bidets, and they're also common in Europe iirc. Or, at least, they're similar to bidets in function.
  4. "I want the optimization done but I don't want to do it" reads as "I want the game to have a 'play yourself' button." Not liking the mechanics is fine, and I get that, but asking the game to optimize itself for you is ridiculous.
  5. You cut off half my point, and the more important part - class options.
  6. From a story perspective, so far, I've really liked: Marianne's, because I like how it shows in greater detail what her deal is with respect to her Crest and how that has shaped her life. Ashe and Catherine's, because it showed the resolution of Ashe's mini-arc about Lonato. Flayn and Seteth's, because it gives the player a lot of information about who they are and lets him speculate about their connection to Byleth and Rhea.
  7. Growths don't matter. All that's important for child units in Fates is base stats and class options. Knight line sucks and Troubadour is shit for the one Knight. The STR base is nice but not enough to really make her that great of a mom imo.
  8. I like Felicia!Nina okay. I think Effie isn't really a good mom for any unit, it's just that Effie!Percy is fast and easy so people pretend like it's good. But I've never been too impressed with any of Effie's kids. As mentioned, +MagMU!Ophelia is broken. (Ophelia is just broken, though). I tend not to use kids too much outside of Ophelia and Nina, come to think of it, unless I have Mozu or Selena to give Silas I guess. Sometimes I'll recruit the kids just for the gold and exp but I typically stick to gen 1 units. Oh, yeah, I sometimes use Selena or Mozu for Soleil instead.
  9. I just played this map the other day and I quite liked it. It's not so hard as long as you play decently quickly and have a mobile Byleth.
  10. I really like it. It makes every Mage a little different with different utility, especially later in the game.
  11. Also: I cannot recommend against using guides for which units to use enough. It's something you should feel out for yourself as you play more games in the series.
  12. Blaze it, gamer. I'm a big fan of Three Houses myself. The characters and story are engaging enough and I don't ask for more than that, and the replayability is about as good as it is in Fates: Conquest due to the sheer variety of things you can do. The monastery is a refreshing change of pace versus past titles where the closest thing was (the godawful) My Castle, which had no verisimilitude at all and felt so disparate from the rest of the game I wondered why it existed in the first place when a list on the battle prep screen would have worked just as well. It's not perfect, though - the main gripe I have with the game is that Edelgard's route is unfinished and the excess of activity points once you hit a certain professor level, as well as how poorly done Seminars are - even at professor level D it's never better to do a seminar, when it should be viable all the way through the game. Also, a minor thing, but I think you should be able to see students from other classes attending seminars - it's weird that only some of Byleth's students go. Why wouldn't, for example, Ashe attend Shamir's Bow+Lance seminar just because he's not in my house? I just think it would be cool to see.
  13. There are no specific criteria here. Some of them are my favorite because of their character, others are because of their abilities as a unit (it's usually this), and some are both. Lord: Favorite: Edelgard. Runner-up: Marth. Least Favorite: Chrom. Avatar: Favorite: Byleth. Runner-up: Corrin. Least Favorite: Kris. Trainee (does not include 3H students): Favorite: Mozu. 14. For New Game+: On a third playthrough, do the data carry over from the first clear? To be specific: if I unlocked a B support with a unit during the first clear but did not buy it back with renown during the second clear, does the option to buy that support remain on the third run?
  15. Edelgard and the Death Knight have a conversation in Chapter 8.
  16. You may as well not get it at all then, haha. I remember on the final chapter of CF I skipped the chests completely because I couldn't think of a reason to go out of my way for them when the end of the game was right there.
  17. I started a maniac run blind before 3H came out and I have been having a fairly easy time of it, but if you're newer to the series I suggest Hard or Normal.
  18. Aw, bummer. Guess she's going to stick with the Levin Sword then.
  19. There are a couple things I want to do in my next playthrough: Falcon Knight!Flayn, for starters, because she comes with the certification for Pegasus (right?) and I think it could be fun to use. Is there a lance counterpart to the Levin Sword and Bolt Axe that I haven't found? Gremory!Bernadetta seems like it's actually not bad - her spell list is quite impressive, especially on the Faith side. Maybe she's good Holy or Dark Knight material, too? Gremory!Shamir gives me a similar impression though in her case I think she's best off avoiding the riding classes. Bow Knight!Mercedes could be cool, though digging her out of low lance rank will require some dedication. Not sure if Dancer!Lysithea is unconventional or not but I wager most people choose Marianne for their Golden Deer dancer if not Flayn. Speaking of Marianne, I like the idea of Falcon Knight (also probably not all that unconventional). Mortal Savant!Ignatz could be cool. Leonie might like being an Assassin, but Bow Knight just suits her so naturally it's hard to justify choosing something else.
  20. I don't buy it. No reason to. If it were true - okay, fine. Abyss Mode is as I expected, and the new characters and classes are...fine.
  21. Regarding the map design: There is a mixed bag. In general I would say it's about on par with GBA FE, most like FE7 or 8 in terms of design (not difficulty - it's somewhere in the middle of FE8 HM and FE7 HHM). There are some really great maps, but there are some you can clear reasonably quickly without needing to think to hard about it thanks to either a weak boss or a lack of side objectives. Pre-timeskip, my favorite chapter is Chapter 8 because there is a lot to do on the side (Chests, Green Units to save, optional boss with a reward) and you can't turtle or you'll lose all that. There is also a decent use of terrain. I just wish enemy quality was higher, but I think I'll reserve my final judgment for Maddening mode. I haven't cleared all the routes yet so I can't say which post-skip map is my favorite.
  22. Regarding Shamir: She does not get significantly better if you wait to recruit her. It's best to recruit her as soon as you can.
