  1. I love Fates...and I know I'm really in the minority with that opinion. It was my introduction to the series, and I have loved Fire Emblem ever since. I've played through Conquest (hate the story, but the gameplay is fantastic) and the other pathways multiple times. I think I've played through each pathway 7-8 times now. I love this game. Anyway, yesterday, I was playing the dreaded chapter 10 in lunatic conquest classic mode. Everything was going quite well. I even managed to defeat Takumi. I did not defeat him before he activated that stupid dragon vein like I wanted, but overall, the battle went quite well. Almost perfect (love ya Subaki), except for one thing... During an enemy phase, Oboro attacked Arthur while he was paired up with a captured enemy unit, that boss guy from the previous chapter -...I hardly ever get to capture him. RNG was really in my favor this time around. Anyway, during the attack, Oboro and Arthur traded hefty blows. This Arthur, he's slow, but he actually has a good hit rate. Giving Arthur all the Goddess Icons possible really helps. At the end of the attack Arthur was left with low health but also left with a fully charged dual guard. Oboro was left with 11 hp. At the end of the turn, a lot of other enemy units were closing in. So I had Arthur and his buddy retreat to a location where only Oboro could attack him, but no other enemy unit could. Oboro was capable of doubling Arthur because at that point Arthur was as slow as a turtle, but that was not a problem. Arthur has the dual guard. This plan was that Oboro would clang against the dual guard, Arthur would inflict exactly 11 damage to Oboro, and that would be the end of dealing with Oboro...for at least that chapter. Arthur was still inflicted with the 'seal strength' status, but that didn't matter; he was still strong enough to deal exactly 11 damage. To confirm this, I checked the combat forecast three times before having Arthur retreat and executing my plan. The forecast said all three times that Arthur would inflict exactly 11 damage. Confident in my plan, I clicked the end turn button and watched the action roll. Everything was going well....until Oboro engaged Arthur. She did indeed clang against the dual guard...and then Arthur proceeded to do...10 damage - 1 hp short. I then watched in horror and disgust as Oboro defeated Arthur. Considering I just finished a perfect run of birthright lunatic, I was quite upset. After avoiding the temptation of throwing my 2ds across the room, I began to ponder what exactly happened. Arthur should have had the exact same strength/attack stat. His strength was already sealed; it can't get any lower. And Oboro-the space she occupied was not a defensive space. There were no forts or trees; it was a normal space. So I'm a bit baffled as to why Arthur's attack stat would decide to drop down one number like that. And no, Arthur was not receiving an additional attack stat buff earlier from other adjacent units. Arthur was alone with his captured unit buddy (whatever his name is) pretty much the entire battle. I was so put off by this that I decided to go from classic to casual; something I very rarely do. I may be looked down upon for 'cheating' in this way, but I just don't feel like losing a unit to a one hp fluke. Especially when Takumi and his buddies get to retreat and fight another day; it's only fair IMHO. Has such an experience happened to anyone else? I'm still not sure why Arthur's attack stat would drop one number like that.
  2. Looking for Niles with certain blow. I hope I get the skill soon, because I"m about to start chapter 9 conquest, and I want to capture that spear wielding boss guy...whatever his name is.
  3. It's been awhile since I've done this. Castle code: 01664-16067-61233-09393 Affinity: Birthright Avatar name: Corrina Castle name: I lost Oboro…(Yes, you read that right. Losing Oboro during my ironman run has really bummed me out.) Region: central USA. Resources: Beans and Sapphires. Battle level: Lunatic/Classic Corrina: Replicate, Renewal, Bowbreaker, Vantage, Grisly Wound Dwyer: Draconic Hex, Gentilhomme, Nobility, Dragon Fang, Dragon Ward Ryoma: Vantage, Aptitude, Hoshidan Unity, Replicate, Lancebreaker Rinkah: Aptitude, Death blow, Aegis, Pavise, Certain blow Hayato: Aptitude, Aegis, Pavise, Astra, Rend Heaven Azura, Renewal, Pavise, Aegis, Aptitude, Inspiring Song Felcia: Dragon Fang, Demoiselle, Live to serve, Tomebreaker, Aptitude Kiragi: Skill +2, Pavise, Quick draw, Aptitude Midori: Astra, Profiteer, Potent Potion, Quick Salve, Aptitude Kana: Draconic Hex, Dragon Fang, Tomebreaker, Nobility, Aptitude. Notes: not easy seize at this time, though I may change that later. Depends on traffic and my mood. I think that covers everything.
  4. Looking for Corrin with Spendthrift and Setsuna with....anything. Despite all this castles I have visited, I have not seen any Setsuna. Sad. Sure, she may not be the best unit, but I think she's cute. My castle address is 01664-16067-61233-09393. My units have a decent assortment of skills, but my castle is not easy seize...not yet anyway. I'll probably make it easy seize in the near future.
  5. I'm currently doing lunatic birthright right now. MY small piece of advice, be very careful with Mitama's paralogue. When I did this paralogue, it was before chapter 20. Most of the enemies were advanced level 4's. Because of a miscalculation and bad placement, I watched in horror as Oboro was decimiated with Silver arrows. I thought she would be fine with guardian naginata, full health, and pair up. Alas no - losing her cost me my perfect run. Be careful; it's tempting to try to get Azama to Mitama's house...but it's not worth it. Just lest the Adventurers trash the house; Mitama still will be perfectly fine. Because I desired to wake Mitama a bit too strongly, Oboro is now gone...leaving behind a distressed husband and kid. (Takumi and his kid.) If there's any danger, forget the house and retreat to a more defensive position.
  6. Well, I guess this is the best place to place this question. Big story spoilers. I don't fully understand the 'Mother' cutscene. The cloaked dude, (won't spoil who that guy is) telekenitically grabs corrin's sword, does a chaos blast and then kills Mikoto with energy spikes resulting from the blast. Brutal! But the blast itself, to me it doesn't look that large. Don't get me wrong; it occurred in the middle of a dense crowd and killed nearly everyone. It certainly is tragic, but the blast does not look large enough to level the entire town. But we see in the proceeding cutscenes that a very large portion of the town is ruined. Awful...So, what gives? Was the explosion just not properly scaled by the cutscene writers? And if the explosion did emcompass nearly the entire town, why are only the remaining plot relevant characters (Ryoma, Sakura, etc.) unharmed from the blast? Is it just plot armor? Oh, and speaking of scaling, what is the true size of Corrin's dragon form? In the animated cutscenes, Dragon Corrin towers over Azura...but in game, even in the same chapter, Dragon Corrin is a bit tiny. About the same height as any other character...so... Are there any good answers to this? or is it just unfortunate plot holes?
  7. Yep. I'm loving blazing sword. Solid gameplay and seeing all the characters and hearing all the themes I've heard from other games for years, particularly smash bros (Show me your moves! Show me your moves! Show me your moves!) is highly satisfying. < If you don't know what I"m talking about, take a look at this. My main irritant with awakening is that tag team and dual guard are entirely rng based. Instead of being a strategy game, sometimes it feels like Awakening is nothing more than 'put your strongest units on the front lines and may the odds be ever in you favor.' Hunger games ftw. Yes, I know that rng is an element of all the fire emblem games, but I feel that Awakening takes things to an extreme. Your pair up partner can guard twice and attack twice if rng feels like it....or your partner can do absolutely nothing despite having a high support rank if rng feels like it.
  8. The other day I was playing awakening on Hard/Classic and generally having a good time. I have mixed feelings about the game in general. Fates was my first ever Fire Emblem game, so getting used to all the 'downgrades' in gameplay was a bit of a shock and is still an irritant at times. But the game still does give a lot of fun. For example, I had Say'ri ( I think that's her name), the Chronsin princess faces walhart on that level outside his castle. The custom dialogue was nice and then she soundly defeated him with a critical hit. Nice. I then had Say'ri face Walhart again inside the castle with a brave sword. Astra, then astra again - she then takes a hit despite only having a 20% chance of being hit. Boo. and then....another astra. Ultimately, every hit, (15 hits) connected. Walhart was amazingly satisfyingly defeated on the 15th hit.....I knew she wanted revenge but...wow. I was truly amazed...and was sad I was not able to record what just happened. Never I expected to get more than 10 hits while playing with any unit with Astra. And then Say'ri comes (vengeance incarnate) killing Walhart slowly with 15 astra hits. Death from a thousand cuts....or at least 15. I'm now curious as to what the record is with Astra. There's probably players out there who have been able to land all 20 hits. Anyone else have a similar experience? I've never been able to get more than 7 astra hits in fates.
  9. I'll never tire of seeing all the different stratagies and setups for Thabes. That's why I love it. There's so many different approaches. As for me, I completed Thabes for the last time. All level 1 overclasses. Alm: Zweihander, Falchion, Killer Bow. Celica: Zweihander, Beloved Zofia. Tatina: Dracoshield Zeke: Zweihander Jesse: Parthia Kliff: Mage Ring Delthia: Mage Ring/Ladyblade Katria: Rhomphia Mathilda: Rhomphia Forsyth: Gravidus. An enjoyable run, though easy compared to my previous one. Though I almost lost Alm because an oversight and his low resistance. Usually, Clair would have been my Harrier, but Katria had better stats than any of the other fliers. Curiously, every time I play the game, Palla has the lowest stats. Sad, because she's the oldest. Imagine if Xander or Ryoma were the weakest of their siblings. Forsyth had better than usual stats this time. With Gravidus and the Spartan's no damage ability, he was able to dominate. A great run and a great finish for a great game. Though I am sad about one thing. Every time I've played, I've been able to obtain the Luna weapon, but not once have I ever seen a sol or astra. If it was not for the internet, I never would have known such weapons exist. Even with grinding levels 9 and 10 of thabes and going through the inner sanctuary of enough times to get 4 star jaciniths, the weapons are just too rare. I have a poor view of only being able to obtain weapons through slim random chance. I didn't like it in xenoblade X, or xenoblade 2, or here. I very much hope this mechanic is absent from the next Fire Emblem game.
  10. Amen. I love the overclasses. Though I just recently beat Thabes with most mostly level 10 'normal advanced classes'. No overclasses this time. The overclasses in this game remind me of Super Sonic. It's fun to power through everything after being the game normally. The outfits are really neat too, particularly the Spartan outfit. However, I feel that the Rigain and Harrier outfits are maybe a bit out of character. Rigain certainly looks regal, but it shows a bit more skin than what Celica normally wears. Perhaps embracing her beauty this way is symbolic of her embracing her role. And the Harrier outfit... I think in another life Camilla was a Harrier.
  11. Just finished the Labyrinth again on Hard/Classic with Alm/Celica being level 20 Hero/Princess classes. No overclassing this time. The rest of the party was level 8-10. Alm: Hero/Falchion,Royal Sword, Killer bow. Celica: Beloved Zofia Kliff: Mage Ring Jesse: Parthia. Zeke: Ilwoon/Zwihander Shade:Royal Shield; Sage's Shield Tatiana: Dracoshield Sonya: Ladyblade/Mage Ring Faye: Silver Shield Mathilda: Rhomphia Certainly, a bit tricky, but doable. Things were going quite well all the up to the tenth floor. I love Saints and their warping/rescue ability. Tatiana's fortify is invaluable. Sonya's entrap and Shade's freeze/silence are great too. I relied a lot on my Pitchforked Jesse and Zeke. In particular, Zeke's tigerstance ability is amazing. Mathilda's Dragonhaze ability is amazing for the same reason. Alm and Celica didn't do much overall, leaving most of the work to the others so they could gain experience. Yep, things were going quite well until...the creation. Because of miscalculations, I lost Faye and Mathilda...despite Invoked enemies on the board....Go for the invoke you stupid enemies. I was starting to get overwhelmed from spawning enemies. So I decided to quit playing cautiously and blitz Grima. Alm went in with a fully upgraded Royal Sword. Maybe I should have used Falchion, but I wanted the increase critical rate. I attacked with a Double Lion. One of the hits did a critical. Alm then took a mouthful of expiration. Fortunately, that didn't matter because...Zeke. A critical Tigerstance hit is a wonderful thing. Then Celica was able to finish him off with an Omega Ragnorok. Never gets old....Maybe we should of had a roasted dragon bbq. Tricky, but highly enjoyable....granted I skipped the level 9 'gauntlet' and I also skipped the room of fire dragons. But I'm still quite happy with the endeavor.....I could go through the game again and the labyrinth again with lower levels...but nah...Being around level 10 is good enough for me. My last endeavor before I close the book on this game and move on, like I did with Fates, is to go through the dungeon again with level 1 overclasses. What can I say? I really like the overclasses...even if the Rigain and Harrier outfits are maybe a bit out of character. Rigain certainly looks regal, but it shows a bit more skin than what Celica normally wears. And the Harrier outfit; I think in another life Camilla was a Harrier.
  12. Master of Arms may have its flaws, but I feel it works well for Hana, as I have far more luck with her than her being a Swordmaster. Every time I use MoA on Hana, she's able to hold her own, but everytime she's uses Swordmaster, she's more fragile than glass. I'll just leave the Swordmastering to Ryoma.
  13. Hello everyone. This is a semi emotional rambling on my experience with Fates. The past two years with it have been unforgettable. I'll never forget my first experience with Birthright. Birthright was my first ever Fire Emblem game. I've played strategy games and rpg's before, but this...it was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I fell in love from the first chapter, even before that. I felt that Lost in thoughts all Alone was so emotional. As soon as I heard the song, I knew I had to get the game as soon as I could. I continued through the chapters, shocked at some of the game's darker moments. Flora...Elise.... And then what happens to Azura. And then the ending. It was all I could do to keep from crying. I knew I had to get the next path as soon as possible. And obtain it I did. The difficulty spike was...interesting. I had a remarkably difficult time with the early conquest chapter with all the faceless, the chapter where Silas is introduced. But I adapted. Through multiple playthroughs, I eventually defeated Conquest multiple times on Lunatic/Classic difficulty. But the experience, it was just as gut-wrenching as the first playthrough. Actually, even more so. To go against my former companions, and after seeing what happens to Ryoma. Again, I came very close to crying. But I triumphed, again left with a very bittersweet feeling. I felt even more compelled to play the final playthrough. And I did. The first chapter of valla. Just the three of us against our true enemy with both kingdoms branding us traitors. I haven't felt so immersed in a game since the first time I went into the Phazon mines in Metroid Prime. But I continued. To my delight, I was able to recruit units from both sides. It was such an amazing feeling. Having the best of both worlds. Hosidan and Nohr. Not only with all the units, I love every single one from both sides, but having both Dusk and dawn dragon statues. The ability to forge weapons from both sides and resources from both sides. It was wonderful. I wanted to jump for joy the first time I saw the truce established between the kingdoms. That feeling only increased when characters married from opposite sides. Particularly, Ryoma and Camilla. or Xander and Hinoka. Or Oboro getting over her hostility towards Nohr by marrying a Nohrian, such as Benny. I continued through the story, through the various developments and ominous atmospheres. I was heartbroken over Scarlet's fate. And I literally gasped when I realized what Arete meant in the chapter Arete Undone. I continued and continued to love the music and atmosphere more and more. I never get tired of hearing Flickering Illusion or Oblivescence. I reach the end of the game, not knowing what to expect...but I certainly didn't expect the final boss take up a third of the screen. I was awestruck. I was mildly disappointed he's easier than Conquest's boss, but still a very compelling boss nonetheless. The ending, seeing both sides with characters I love have true peace. I loved it. Such a happy ending. No dead siblings, no bittersweet feelings, no dead Lilith or Azura. It was one of the most emotional experiences I ever had. But I still wasn't done. Over the next two years, I played through each path again and again, at least 5 times each path. I have spent far more time on this game than any other, dwarfing even my time with the Xenoblade games. But now, it's all over. I just finished Revelation for the last time. It was highly satisfying defeating the boss in Chapter 27 in one turn. Inspired by my experience in conquest, I used Camilla armed with pass and movement enhanced with boots and rally movement to fly straight to the boss. Corrin highly boosted with having all her stats rallied, then rainbow rallied on top of Rainbow tonic made short work of the boss with a brave sword. This was even more compounded with Quixotic, Astra, Swordfaire and Death blow skills. Having Corrin be in the Hero class was a lot of fun. As for the Endgame, I wasn't able to dominate as completely. I made a mistake, and almost lost a unit. But everything worked out. I didn't even have to use the Bifrost I brought along for insurance. The battle ended with Takumi landing multiple criticals (Revenge for what happened in Conquest) while Tag Teamed with Corrin. When I saw the ending again, I cried a little this time. It's been such an incredible journey the past two years, and now it's over. I do not believe I'll play through the story again for a long time. I'll never forget. The experience has brought me a great deal of comfort as the past two years have been filled with real life challenges. Recently, I lost my Grandmother and soon I'll lose my Father to brain cancer. On top of that, doctors say it will be extremely difficult for I and my wife to ever have children. There indeed has been heartbreaking moments, but I was able to gain a lot of inspiration and courage from Fates and the other Fire Emblem games I've played, namely Echoes, Awakening and Fire Emblem GBA. Part of me still can't believe my first ever Fire Emblem game is coming to a close. Such a bittersweet feeling. This feeling is further enhanced by listening to Ember of Hope while I'm typing this. I know Fates, in particular Revelation has mixed reviews. Indeed, the game and story is not perfect. But for me, I couldn't ask for a better entry into the series. To anyone who reads this, thank you for reading my emotional Fates farewell. I'm sad about closing this chapter, but I look with hope and anticipation with the chapters to come, real life and in the Fire Emblem arenas.
  14. Anyone have Corrin with potent potion? Or Solei with astra?
