  1. I always found Robert and Tania better. But Selphina gets the job done.
  2. No excuse! You should have put him before people like Pain and Agony
  3. Ephraim mode Lyon was much more interesting than Eirika's route Lyon in my opinion. Ephraim's Lyon is more complicated, and the dynamic between him and Ephraim is much more interesting than the one between Lyon and Eirika. If anyone can help me to appreciate Eirika's Lyon more, I'd love to hear it.
  4. I really loved Thracia776, and found it very fun and interesting to play, but I'm not sure if I could call it a well designed game. Even though I loved it, I think it deserved being rated as one of the lesser games. I consider Thracia a hardcore Fire Emblem jaunt that only dedicated fans should try, and they pretty much can't go in blind. I find the game chapter meta-strategy much more interesting than most. The big picture decisions behind what you do with your army matter much more for each individual chapter. The capture mechanic is really cool, not only in gameplay, but because it augments the atmosphere of the story in feeling like an underfunded and undermanned rebel group. The fatigue mechanic was good too, in forcing you to use different characters, and escape chapters were an interesting change of pace. Again, both of these also doubled to make the atmosphere more tough and hopeless. I also liked the scrolls allowing you to make any character become good, but doesn't break the game. Without Thracia, the second generation of Holy War's story always would have been kind of boring, but the game makes Leaf and the whole Lenster and Thracia subplot much more interesting - really elevating a few chapters in the second generation. (I usually picture the game from Leaf's point of view instead of Celice's when he joins in FE4.) I also think Leaf is one of the best written lords. Is it a well designed game? I don't think so. As I type this out I'm not sure if I can place my finger on it, but it just felt like it was kind of rushed and unfinished. It almost feels like some of the challenge comes from the game being unbalanced. You pretty much need to be aware of how the entire game pans out to truly plan your strategies. I don't think staffs weren't meant to be so broken. Minor complaint that's not really a big deal is why do all dismounted units use swords? Why couldn't some still use lances lol. I think the music is one of the weakest in the series. They nailed the atmosphere in all other parts, but if it had better music I think it would have been more inspiring. Lack of a villain was another kind of weak point. Reidric was pretty boring, Birdo started out epic but then disapeared for pretty much the entire game and when you see him you're like "oh yeah". The other villain Blume was killed off screen. (I guess they had to keep it consistent with FE4) No support conversations was especially noticeable in this game because the characters actually seemed very interesting in what little they do, so you're left just wanting more. TL;DR Extremely fun game to play if you're a hardcore, but the flaws make it for certain one of the less whelming Fire Emblem games.
  5. Sorry for the necropost but felt like commenting. I haven't played anything past Fire Emblem 10, so I can't comment on those. Based on what I heard the villains in those games are really boring and not well designed. Out of the main villains in FE4 to 10, probably my least favorite villain was Ashnard. It could be that FE 9 had probably the most interesting playable characters in the series, so it made Ashnard look even weaker than he actually was. I think what makes a good villain is 3 main things. 1. They need to have an interesting motive or an interesting character. 2. They need to be built up throughout the course of the game so when the fight finally happens it feels like the absolute climax. 3. The main character should have some sort of personal element to the villain so the fight against the villain is more emotional and epic. I think Ashnard failed in all 3. While his motive is a little interesting on how he wants to create a world where the only thing that matters is skill (and how it is a direct contrast to Begnion's corrupt system) it's only revealed in battle conversations and the motive only becomes a little interesting in hindsight. All we basically know of him is he wants chaos and his personality is crazy. They didn't really build him up or have him do anything that makes you look forward to the fight against him. He was just the crazy guy in charge of Daein and he's seen in a couple cut-scenes being crazy and uncaring of everything. (While other people comment on how scary he is without ever really showing why) By far the most memorable and epic part about Ashnard is him capturing a dragon prince and riding him as a mount. But this wasn't found out until after he was killed, so it's already kind of too late. There also wasn't really that much of a personal vendetta involved between Ike and Ashnard. Ike barely knows anything about him and Ashnard's nothing more than the enemy leader to him. Really, the true villain of the game was the Black Knight. I know when I picture the game, I think of the Black Knight before Ashnard. He had a mysterious motive making him interesting. He was constantly built up throughout the game and directly kept interfering with the player. He has the personal relation to Ike by killing his father making the battle more epic.
  6. I have a headcanon that Ross sprained his neck as a kid.
  7. So Ephraim is a fighter that destroys everything and wins every fight. Forde is slightly physic who can sense when enemies are coming and such. What does Kyle do that's special or unique?
  8. You must be mistaking me for someone else. People mistake Devnad for other people all the time, but I'm a different person.
  9. Hi. Don't know who Leon is (haven't played that game) but he seems like a good choice for a favorite character. Nice to meet you!
  10. Cats are cool but good plan to broaden your horizons. Fire Emblem fans are generally good people. I'm new too
  11. Sup fellow homeslice. I'm new to this forum too but been playing for around 13 when Sacred Stones came out. Decided now is as good as time as any to join.
