  1. The Edge of Dawn no doubt: Its beautiful, and it captures the whole conflict of Three Houses not exclusively from Edelgard as well. Second would be Lost in Thoughts All Alone, and then Emblem!Engage for third. Honorable mention goes to Lost in Thoughts all Alone: Remembrance, which Shigure sings at the end of Heirs of Fate.
  2. I also pre-ordered from GameStop as well, however, it should be noted that GameStop has a shaky history when it comes to Pre-order bonuses, they will sometimes take more order than they actually have, and then call you few days Before launch telling you they sold out. I pre-ordered Three Houses Special Edition from GameStop and it came fine, but someone on the forums said they cancelled his special edition order of Three Houses.
  3. Couple of thoughts: I actually enjoy the character designs, they look definitely more fan service-y compared to Three Houses. Notably, the cutscenes are rendered in 3D as opposed to Echoes and Three Houses which were 2D. The summonable Heroes seem to be in Spirit as opposed to be physically present. Marth can be interacted with the hub btw. it seems every 4 years we get an Original title now. Fates in 15, Three Houses in 19, and now Engage in 2023.
  4. Welcome! I myself started with 3DS titles ( Fates specifically ) and played every game since Awakening! Three Houses is my fave. Really looking forward to Engage.
  5. Not to join the "criticizing you " parade, but I'm surprised that you even bought Three Hopes since it was clearly a Three Houses love letter; and the fact you didn't enjoy Three Houses. I'm also shocked to see you FEW 1 was better, from what I've spoken too with my friends, they believe Three Hopes is vast improvement over the original, myself included.
  6. Noble vs Common Blood is a very subjective field of discussion and in a modern sense could be seen as a " rich vs poor " or " Privileged " blood. What makes someone a commoner or noble is very complex, and the privilege vs merit discussions that often trails behind it as well. If commoner is determined by social status or/and wealth, then Byleth and Shez ( Haven't played Ike or Maciah's games so I will not comment ) and Alm would apply as lords who were raised as commoners. All three however, have had extraordinary privilege- Byleth and Shez have consciousness of opposing gods who grant them power, while Alm's Brand and Royal birth make him only one who can kill Duma with Falchion. Heck, even Robin was born with the potential to be Grima's vessel. Its especially the problematic in Alm's case because the former preaches that its character that matters not birth but in the end, its the circumstances of Alm's birth that saves the day. In conclusion, all main characters, including the commoners have had lucky boons, whether it be being born to a high class, or being born with god powers ( I count brands and crests as god powers because they are gift from extremely powerful individuals who can pass down through heritage ). I think a better question would be, " Is there a Lord who lacks upperclass birth or was born without god-like powers in the entire series ? "
  7. Of all the four games I have played, Awakening, Fates, Echoes, and Three Houses, this is easily my least favorite of the bunch. I find it’s story themes atrocious, the gameplay miserably slow, and how contradictory themes are. Everyone has discussed the story and how it is flawed, with me agreeing on points on how Alm is a Mary Sue, Celica is preached as an equal but becomes a damsel in distress, and how merit is more important than birth falls apart when Alm is revealed to be a Prince by birth and has special privileges. Three Houses does the whole commoner vs Nobility theme 100 times better, as evidenced by all the debates on Edelgard’s actions. As for the gameplay, people mention that the maps are atrocious and I agree, especially Celica’s part 4 maps through swamps that have your movement and cantors who some Garuda who are immune to terrain and thus slowly chip your units down. Nuibaba’s map was also painfully slow for the same reason. I also hated Dungeon exploring for two reasons: Walking is like driving a car that is going on breakneck pace: You can’t run and stop, you have to slowly come down and stop, which is a problem there is an obstacle in your way. Turning is also the same issue: You have to slow down and turn, not on the fly. The second reason is that whenever you enter a room in a dungeon and enter back to a previous hall, you have to fight all the enemies again. Not only is this time consuming, some of these enemies are super strong, especially in late game dungeons with no Mila Shrines, making it very daunting to collect treasure out of fear of falling from those beasts. That being said, there are some good things, like the animation being really smooth- they clearly mastered the 3DS engine. And the artistic direction being very solid in both illustration and music, though I prefer Three Houses and Fates over Echoes still. In the end however, Echoes is a cake with beautiful frosting, but in the end, the substance of the cake tasted awful. If anything, Echoes suffers from being a remake, which are my least favorite kind of game generally speaking. They try to update it to modern standards, but have to keep some things in regardless if it is or good or bad, or else it would ruin the point of a remake. This isn’t exclusive to FE, other series like FRLG form Pokémon are examples of bad remakes. That being said, I do have slight bit of frustration towards people who claim Fates is terrible in writing but praise Echoes as being a gold standard for writing; if anything, for me, I find Birthright and Conquest fine by themselves: Revelation is where the writing starts to fall off for me and in Fates in General.
  8. Like others said, I think it really depends on what kind of story they are telling. I personally enjoy it from a gameplay perspective because it makes it gives a different way to play compared to the past playthroughs and lets you see the conflict from a different perspective , but if the story would benefit from a single narrative, then I wouldn't mind. Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I believe Three Hopes did the route split the best from a gameplay perspective, with the maps being completely different or having different objectives if they appear again in another route, with the story being vastly different as well alongside being on one cartridge, the two common criticisms of the 3 Houses and Fates respectively. There are even choices within choices in each route of Three Hopes.
  9. Surprised they gave Edelgard a very Modest Swimsuit. Most other swimsuit females tend to have a more risqué outfit, meaning they have a part of their breast exposed.
  10. I don't know if this belongs in serious discussion, or if there has been a thread on it, but Billy Kametz, VA of Ferdinand von Aegir, has passed away after fighting colon cancer at age of 35. Rest in Peace Billy. We miss you and we will never forget our you warmed our hearts with " I am Ferdinand von Aegir ! 11. From my experience doing Azure Gleam, Dimitri, Felix, Shez, and Ingrid are the most enjoyable to me. Mages and Archers I have a harder time, but I getting better at them.
