No, you can get those other resources through random conversations on my castles with other characters, with random shiny spots on random battles, the lottery building. You can also exchange your resources for the other ones. The problem is, it's extremely slow. Let's say you need 10 of a certain ore. You get ~3 per day on your own mine. Might get a random one from a daily random convo. Then the Arena building you can bet one of your mats to get up to 2 more copies if you win both battles. So you'll need multiple days to forge a single weapon, and if you want to forge multiple ones or raise it's forging to +5 it's gonna take weeks for a single one when you could do it in a matter of minutes. Now add this to more units in the roster or a unit with multiple forged weapons. And that's just forging. You also need those mats to buy accessories, make food and maybe other stuff. While you don't need any of this to finish the game, it's one of those things that allowed you to customize and have fun pretty much gone.

They announced it today, with the extra caveat they might even do it sooner if they feel the need. How does this affects our 3DS Fire Emblem titles? For Awakening, we have Paralogues that allows us to recruit new characters, like Priam, Walhart, etc. However, if I'm not mistaken SpotPass data once downloaded remains on the cartridge or SD card, and it's not tied to a specific save file, so if you already download those paralogues, you should have them forever on any save file. I'm unsure about the units from other titles, however. Each FE game prior to Awakening has a team with ~10 recruitable characters from other titles. They are just Avatars with colors that are similar to the character in question, there are no voice lines and only the portraits are unique. I don't remember if Echoes using SpotPass for anything, I haven't even finished it yet, have just arrived on Act 5... more info on Echoes would be appreciated. Fates is the big one affected. Basically you won't be able to visit other castles anymore, which will significantly affect Forging since you will basically be stuck with a single food/ore and will take forever to eventually exchange them. Will also hamper early game experimentation without easier access to Heart Seals and Dragon Vein points to build and upgrade buildings. And of course, Skill buying. You will still be able to acquire skills, but it will be significantly harder and tedious. There are two methods. First is StreetPass, which is significantly rare, and has 8h to 12h to be able to StreetPass the same person again (I don't know how this ties with the "one visit per day" on a castle). The second method I heard is Parley. It's the Wireless method, and requires a friend. So one player becomes the "host" and the other joins the session. I'm unsure if both players can do a battle or only the player who joins. Anyway, this requires both players to have the game and close proximity. The "advantage" of this method is that there's only a 1h cooldown, however it requires a RL friend or for you to own two 3DS with Fates. You can visit the same castle and buy skills from the same player multiple times a day. The last thing I remember is Renown. I'm still far from the 9999 Visitor/Battle points items. I'm guessing you still will be able to do that with StreetPass (good luck) and I don't know if Parley counts either. As far as I remember Fates don't have SpotPass chapters like Awakening. So is there more things to remember that are affected by this? Or more methods for the online stuff in Fates specially?

Going on playing time, I have over 650 hours on Awakening, only beat by Fates with over 660... but Fates is practically 3 games in one, so that speaks so much for Awakening. I played ~20h of Echoes and dropped it... not because I didn't like it, but because I think I was burning out with leveling/skilling/roster management (specially after 1k hours doing so previously). Haven't touched my 3DS in years, E-shop closure brought me back to it, and so much time away actually revived my interest, I'm finally playing Revelations (yes, 660h on Fates and still haven't done it) and after it I'll go back to Echoes to finally play it. I'm more fresh and will be a different take now.

Caeldori showed up early and Ophelia showed up at pull 40... I thought about it and sparked another Caeldori for the merge over another rearmed simply because Caeldori is my girl, even though I also love Ophielia.. Both of them got Florets, been awhile since I last used one, had like 10 lying around... Now eagerly waiting for Gullveig... Man, these 3 made me more interested in playing, was just going through the motions lately...

For those wondering, I bought a $10 gift card, added the funds through the Nintendo website, and was able to purchase Revelations on the 3DS Shop.

So e-shop gift cards should work on the 3DS if I add the redeem codes through the website as the money will be on the same wallet that works on everything? I don't have an international credit card so I believe pre-paid gift cards will be my only way to add funds (same way I bought my other games too). Just kinda worried before I pull the plug in case somehow they are only valid on the Switch.

Thanks, just merged them and I actually had $11 in there. From what I heard the eshop is no longer accepting gift cards? But the option still appears through the website. If I redeem gift cards through the website will I be able to use the funds on the 3DS shop?

I've been a few months away from gaming, and discovered recently that E-shop is closing. So I have until March of next year to buy the Revelations route and other DLCs. However, it also said that the e-shop isn't accepting credit cards and gift cards anymore? So how do I add money to my Nintendo account to actually buy the stuff. Do I actually need to buy a Switch to do that or am I missing something here?

Got Edelgard/Altina and traited her to +ATK. Wanted Micaiah, but didn't get her. I'll actually get the pass spark for her. Thank goodness Elincia is the freebie, I'll +10 her as soon as I can.

On NY I just used tickets and pulled Selkie, duo Alphone and Kaden, really nice, only missed Plumeria for the omega highroll as I already had the others. Decided to roll on the Joshua banner today, and... 4 rolls pulled Wolf, Joshua and Neimi! Holy! I was ready to spark Joshua, but he came right away. Only other unit I was interested was Neimi because she looked powerful and she came 2 tickets later. Can't really remember if I ever highrolled like this before:

Got lucky on Ash's banner, as I just wanted Basilio and ended up with a Flavia on the same roll, then stopped rolling. Thorr I also got on 9 rolls and stopped. Didn't get any of the other units. Then for this banner I just wanted the duo and Mirabilis, because dancers are always nice to have. Well, I reached the spark orb on the last pull with Arthur, then I got Lys/Lute and I was enraged didn't get Mirabilis... then I realized this is a banner you can spark everything apparently. Had to spark Mirabilis too, but I got Manuela on the way there and also my second Igrene, who is now merged, Volke, who I missed on Thorr's banner, legendary Sigurd, Tanith (who also didn't show up there even as a 4*) and one or two more units. While I didn't want to spend that much here (~300? orbs), second Igrene and Volke made it worth for me.
