  1. The full version of the translation has been released! (Current Version: 1.04, released February 2, 2018) Japanese → Version 1.04: Download Here Version 1.03 → Version 1.04: Download Here For those interested, I've also figured out how to access the entirety of the beta version of the game (in Japanese). See this thread for details. Map of the continent of Lieberia: link Character Relations (spoilers!): link Screenshots: Patching & Playing Instructions: Acquire a Japanese-version TearRing Saga BIN file. Ripping the game from the disk, you may end up with an ECM file, which is a compressed BIN. Use a tool like UnECM to decompress it. The patch is in xDelta format, so you'll need an xDelta patcher; I'd recommend xDeltaUI, available here on Romhacking.net. Just to be safe, apply the patch to a copy of your TearRing Saga BIN file. Use the patcher to patch the BIN file with the xDelta file found above. Load the patched BIN using whatever PS1 emulator you like. I've always used pSX v1.13 with no problems. Note: If you use ePSXe 2.0.5, please follow these instructions, or else the emulator will not run correctly. Failing that, try version 1.9.4. Note that because this is a Japanese game, circle is "yes" and X is "no." While we're on the topic, triangle is the "more info" button, like the R-button in the GBA games. L1/R1 go to the previous/next available unit (or previous/next page on the stats screen). If you're ever curious what controls are available to you at any time, you can press square to view them. To all players: If you notice anything strange in the patch, such as: a typo or misaligned text a glitch or bug (besides the Krishna duplication glitch) a particularly drunk-sounding conversation a name inconsistency (e.g., Liza vs. Leeza) Please let me know here or via PM! Peculiarities of TRS Gameplay:
  2. Have you ever wanted to use a character that can warp anywhere on the map at will? Tear Ring Saga gave us that ability, but the two characters that had it joined late. Well, now in TRS RR you can use them from the start of the game! Have you ever wanted dual female lords? TRS RR has that too! Have you ever wanted a thief lord with 1 base STR and a 0% STR growth rate? Probably not, but you will get one of those in TRS RR too! Screenshots See here for some screenshots of the fun that is to be had. Patches Patch for vanilla V1.04 to RR V1.02: Here The patch should be applied to a .bin file that has already been patched with V1.04 of Aethin's English translation patch. You can obtain the English patch here. These are all xdelta patches, so use your favorite xdelta patcher (Delta Patcher and xdelta UI are two I know of) to patch it. Guide I have made a handy Spreadsheet Guide that covers recruitment, unit stats, learned skills, promotion gains, events, and other notes. It should have basically everything you need to know while you're playing TRS RR. Note that there are multiple tabs in the spreadsheet. Be sure to check out the "Other Notes" tab, it has some important information! FAQs Do characters have their normal growth rates? How did you calculate the character base stats? Yes, none of the characters growth rates were changed at all. Character base stats were obtained by using their growth rates and leveling or "deleveling" them to their new level. Promotion bonuses were also added or subtracted as necessary. In TRS there are some classes that don't promote, what happens to units that replace these classes? I took this on a case-by-case basis: The Royal Knight class is considered a promoted version of the Cavalier class The Shadow Knight class is considered a promoted version of the Shadow Lancer class Leda Princess is considered a promoted version of Princess Prince is considered a promoted version of Lord. Artilleryman, Chief, Witch, and Pirate are considered promoted classes, but with no unpromoted version. Thief is considered an unpromoted class. How are PRFs handled? All PRF weapons now belong to the unit who replaced them. So Juni can use Holmes' holy sword, Tia can use Runan's holy sword, etc. There are also a few unique situations regarding PRFs: Alicia and Meriel swap places, so Alicia gets a thunder magic version of Starlight (called Starstorm lol) and Meriel gets Dire Light (Which replaces Dire Thunder). Alicia also gets Aura rain, but that is still light magic, so you will have to promote Alicia if you want to be able to use Aura rain. Esther replaces Rishel, so she gets the Sunspear, which is a 1-3 range lance that replaces Sunflame. Plum and Lionheart swap places. Lionheart obviously can't use the Enarmor staff, so that became Renee's PRF instead (Since Renee is now the one that gives it to Lionheart in the event) In Vanilla Alfred joins in the final chapter to prevent the player from softlocking the game if they do not have Sierra/Renee alive. Is there any failsafe to prevent the game from softlocking in RR? Yes, I did put a failsafe in. Kreiss, who replaces Alfred, will have a warp scroll in his inventory when he joins in the final chapter. It will allow him to learn warp. Credits Many thanks to Aethin, who answered numerous questions I had throughout the hacking process. Programs used to create this hack were HxD, CDMage, TIM Viewer, and TRSModify. Changelog V1.02: Based on discord suggestions, changed Zieg's starting class to be Shadow Lancer instead of Cavalier, since that makes more sense. V1.01: Fixed Letena's portrait when she joins in chapter 2.

    Patching TRS

Hi, all! I'm a bit new here, so I hope I'm not committing any unspeakable acts by re-posting this here. I tried asking about this in the Tear Ring Saga section but wasn't getting any help, so I figured I'd ask in a section like this that seemed more appropriate/active. I'm having problems patching TRS, and I think it may have to do with the ripping process. According to the readme linked here, I'm to I bought a Japanese copy of the game, but, no matter what I use to rip the game, I get a file that is about 580 MB or smaller. I've tried ImgBurn—which is what I normally use for PS1 games—and CD Clone, and I've tried ripping the game to various formats (.bin, .iso, etc.). The game itself runs fine on my PSP and on ePSXe, but whenever I patch it, it either remains in Japanese (on PSP) or crashes the emulator (ePSXe). Any idea what may be wrong? The people at the RH.net forums said that I might have a different version of the game. Is this the problem? Tl;dr: When I rip TRS, it's too small a file (~580 MB) to patch according to the readme for the newest patch. Would anyone mind diagnosing why the file ends up being too small and/or offering a solution so I can play the game? Thanks in advance.

  5. Well, this is technically my second attempt at a Tearring Saga run, but I got few questions anyway so I don't wind up screwed this time around. 1. Is it just me, or is weapon durability absurdly high in this game? I mean, a iron axe comes with 88 uses for crying out loud. Is the game just that long to justify so many uses for weapons, or does the game handle weapons similarly to FE4? 2. During my first run, when I got to Holmes route, I started letting that dragon girl roflstomp everything since I could grind EXP for everyone else in between battles. Is there a problem with this strategy lategame beyond stolen EXP? 3. I stopped my first run due to a glitch with the translation patch crashing the game. I've read that one could just switch to a Japanese version to get past that part, which is one of the two reasons I've started a second run. The other being Vestaria Saga and FE Fates hype Would returning to the translated rom after getting past Map 19 allow to keep playing the game in engrish past that point, or am I stuck with the Japanese version from chap. 19 onward? Thanks in advance.
  6. I'm thinking of doing a 0% growths ironman run of TRS at some point. 0% growths ironman runs are fun because they encourage the use of good tactics rather than Narron solo or tons of resets. It won't be a LTC run (at least not at first), and TRS is pretty easy overall so I'll have lots of ways to make reliable tactics. Compared to the minimum turncount run I did previously, I'll have many more characters and items which open up more options (and I won't be forced to rush through danger to seize each chapter). TRS has items which can prevent character death so ironmanning is feasible if not recommended for general play. There's still a few things I want to plan out before I start and I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions. - Who to pick at Verge: I'm thinking I should pick Lee first for the defense staff, then either Narron or Lionel next since they're solid combat units. I'll get Roger, Mintz, and Samson in this playthrough plus many others, unlike the LTC, so I won't be lacking in combat units either way. - Random encounters: Any way to avoid them while playing ironman? - Grinding: I want to ban grinding for stat boosters, character skills, etc. I could set a rule not to fight any more encounters than I have to, but if I want to move to another city to buy stuff an enemy might appear. What's the best way to address this? - Coinflip: Since you have a >50 chance of winning, this is essentially a very slowly earned free 200000 gold. I used it in my LTC, but I think I'll ban it here since it's lame. - Funds: without the coinflip and with the need for amulets (to prevent fatal attacks), gold is going to be scarce. And I might just miss possible sources of gold because it's an ironman run and (for example) one of Leonheart's troops could block the gold-bearing reinforcements. Tips on how to spend it would be appreciated. - Route splits: Who goes where? - Other places where I have to choose items to get, like after chapter 14. - Stat booster and promotion item distribution - Tutoring skills - Probably some other stuff, let me know what else I should consider. As for specific chapters, there's a few I'm worried about. - Chapter 18: How do I approach this? Since turncounts aren't an issue I can have Zeek pick off several units before moving in, but even he is in danger in this map. And I'd like to kill the harpy staff guy as soon as possible, how can I accomplish that? Hopefully I manage to get the ballista in the previous chapter so Thomas can support. - Chapter 25: The group of five dragon knights are really dangerous. I'm thinking of M Up + Aura Rain*2, but I don't know how they will react if that fails. Also, which route do I take from here? - Chapter 26A: Does aura rain hit the invisible enemies? Or is there another way to get through here safely? - Chapter 26B: I think this map would be preferable because of the thief swords, which are very useful for combat on weak units like Sasha and for stealing good items. I'd have to take this chapter very slowly so Maerhen can actually capture an enemy to get the thief sword stuff started. The guys hidden in the center of the map would be an annoyance and I would probably kill Arkis, though. - Chapter 34: How do I kill Ernest? - Chapter 35: I guess I have to let Julius break his lance on arena fighters? Any suggestions are appreciated.
  7. I don't play a whole bunch of other SRPG games, but I hear from other people that they're a bunch of grindy casual crap. What do you guys think? Is Fire Emblem the best? Or are we the casuals? And before you say TearRing/Berwick Saga, I'm counting those as FE games because that's not the comparison I'm trying to understand.
  8. Why hello there everyone! well I was recently playing Tear Ring Saga and I had Maruju go with Holmes on the very first route split and got the Sylpheed magic early as a result now that is normal. The thing I am wondering about just to be sure as I may have by mistake found something that no one else has yay I may have discovered a glitch that no one else knows! Well on chapter 21 when Sennet and everyone shows up I had Alicia speak with Alfred and after the talk something I did not expect happned. I got another Sylpheed tome!! this can`t possibly be normal as as far as I know ☆ rank weapons are one of a kind in this game and you can never get more than one copy unless you abuse the Krisheenu glitch to duplicate items so yeah is that normal to get another one? or have I found something that no one else has? if I have possibly found a glitch then I guess it is time to spread the word around to any Tear Ring Saga players heh.
