  1. I've been wondering if even after I've put many, many hours into awakening and buying the scramble pack, is it worth getting Future Past or another DLC like Infinite Regalia? The game has been out for a couple years now, so is there a point to by it when there won't be any more maps added?
  2. You know when you order a meal and every time you did, you got exactly what you were expecting at the end? But how would you feel nowadays if you looked at a meal on the menu, ordered it, and then you were shocked to see that some key ingredients were missing? That sadly happens nowadays, at least in the world of video games, and why is that you ask? DLC. Back when it was still a new thing, developers and publishers were still figuring it out, but when it became ever more popular, they unlocked potential behind DLCs as money making machines. And a lot of players (Not pointing fingers at anyone in particular) bought into those business practices and strategies to the point where there was a lot of DLCs in games that were intended as part of the base game, but now put behind a paywall. Now I don’t think DLCs are inherently bad, I’ve played a lot of good pieces of DLC, but not as much as I have bad ones. And after playing through Hearts of Stone, an expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, I felt like it did a lot of things right that some companies should learn from. And if you have played Witcher 3 and haven’t played Hearts of Stone yet, I highly recommend it, CD Projekt RED have done it again and how! This is all an opinion so feel free to share your own thoughts. Now without further ado, let’s get into what I think developers should do to make DLC worth it. Step 1: Don’t Rip Us Off Now this is the core ingredient to good DLC that developers should always be aware of, it’s easy to make players feel they were ripped off, there are many ways. If it was day one DLC, of course they’d feel ripped off, because you made this along with the game so why not just put it in? If the DLC is of major importance to the game’s narrative (I’m looking at you Asura’s Wrath and Mass Effect 3) then never keep it locked behind a paywall, especially if it’s locked on disc. I know I’ve stated sometimes that there are reasons behind everything a developer/publisher does in this industry, but that doesn’t mean I’m willing to let them off the hook, players aren’t moneybags. And good PR is important. Here’s a link to a letter that CD Projekt RED put in every copy of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Step 2: Think About Value Now that I said what I think makes DLC terrible, here’s what devs should know to make it decent and worth it. A rational consumer wouldn’t feel as appealed towards spending 3 to 20 dollars to grab DLCs that grant a variety of different skins as much as he/she would feel appealed to pay the same price for one piece of DLC that gives them all that and then some, some even do it for free like Portal 2's extra coop missions. Make your players feel like they got their money’s worth when making DLC, something you put sweat into. If it’s a map or mission, it ought to be one you spent enough time building to fit the price, just think about that. And to go back to Hearts of Stone, it costs 10 dollars, features 15 hours of new content such as new quests, gear and enemies plus the replay value that naturally comes with The Witcher series. Step 3: Always Experiment You know how to make DLC good, now how do you make it great and go the extra mile? If there’s one thing to take into consideration as a designer, is that since your base game is finished, you are 100% free to take risks because DLCs won’t ruin the base game (For the most part) so don’t be afraid to make the experience feel new and different. This is where I have to praise Hearts of Stone yet again, as it twists The Witcher 3 formula enough to make it feel like a different journey. Whereas the story of Wild Hunt was about saving the world as well as those you care for through investigation and battling, Hearts of Stone’s story is about how Geralt made a pact with the devil (Metaphorically speaking) and now has to free himself by doing tasks that are uncharacteristic of him, but he does it because of the situation present at hand so it doesn’t ruin the game, I especially have to commend a certain quest in Hearts of Stone that I won’t spoil, but I’ll just say, that quest changes how you play the game through its duration, and that’s the power of experimentation! Through downloadable content we want the player to feel like they paid for something that they can never get in the base game no matter what, not just by adding more but by adding new, without completely reinventing the game. Honorable Mentions go to Red Dead Redemption Undead nightmare, XCom: Enemy Within and most of Fire Emblem Awakening’s DLCs. That is all for today folks, what do you think of DLC? Do you like it or hate it? If you like it, when do you believe it’s worth buying? What’s your favorite DLC? Discuss at will. And for those who read my reviews, the Persona 3 FES review is still in progress, I’m 25 hours in and I’m still taking notes, the review will be there when I finish it.
  3. So, Plague of Shadows came out yesterday and I spent a portion of the time between then and now playing it through (between arranging meetings and doing some artwork...oh and sleep). It was...different from the main game; Plague Knight is slower and somewhat more slippery than Shovel Knight, and it took some time getting used to all the air mobility and juggling bombs. But I have to say, I was very satisfied with the game once I got the controls wrestled down, even when it got particularly frustrating dying from a beetle knocking me into a pit/spikes/lava (Plague Knight's knock-back is obscene really.) But I think my favorite part of Plague was the story and characters; the first Shovel Knight did an impressive job of creating simple but engaging characters to fill it's world, and while Plague does introduce a few new characters, the amount of depth they go into for everyone else is fantastic (turns out Shovel Knight is kind of a jerk;). But of course the stars of the game are our new duo; Plague Knight and Mona. Mona...was in the main game, but only as a mini-game operator and you could just as easily miss her really. In Plague, she's mission control for Plague Knight's crazy scheme, and the interactions between the two are both hilarious and eventually heartwarming. The story was also rather nice, being a completely different objective that coincided with the main story's. It was interesting how you can't initially go into the village or the armor outpost, since your a infamous member of the Order of no Quarter, or how you actually get into fights with the same guards that originally aided (...kinda) Shovel Knight in the main story. Also, having the Exploditorium end with... was utterly fantastic. the final boss was also really cool, if somewhat frustrating to figure out how to 'read' its attacks. All in all, I'm happy with what Yacht Club released and can't wait for the next expansion with either King Knight or Specter Knight. Anyone else played through yet? What are your thoughts?
  4. Hey Guys, I was just wondering if anybody knew where to find the music that played in the Invisible History DLC?
  5. I've customized (overpowered?) units for a friend. She requested that I make witches and ballistas for her to grab. After a day or so of testing, it's been shown to work so now I'm share it with anyone that has a copy of IF. My castle has all facilities and farming spots at varying levels so that should help you as well. Most of the units are at their lowest level to encourage you to level them yourself. All of the characters have every skill and +2 move from boots, nothing else. Stats are at whatever they would be at their current level. *Acqua Amo* Cyrus - Ballistician Harold - Ballistician Aqua - Witch Belka - Dark Flyer Elise - Witch Mozume - Dread Fighter Camilia - Witch Ellione - Dark Blood Luna - Witch Joker - Default Class 17361-19718 60069-60200 --- If you enjoy, let me know~! Have fun!
  6. I have two download codes (Pegasus Knight Minerva and Masked Lucina) from the Wave 1 release, I was just wondering if anybody knows if these codes are region locked or not (seeing that I don't own a Japanese 3DS or Fates).
  7. I wanted something to do as a test post and decided it would be kind of nice to share the characters and builds I used for Apotheosis. I then realized it would be dumb to just list what I had and decided to make it a place where someone can share their builds for Apotheosis and maybe learn about a few nice ways to build their characters. Now, keep in mind that for what I will be sharing this was done on a playthrough I didn't think I'd even attempt Apotheosis on so some of my pairings will be kind of off. This was done on Normal Casual I also used DLC characters, classes and skills in this run. These characters are also taken from my second run (which is why I have Katarina) Now, onto my builds: Aaron (The Avatar) Class: Sorcerer Wife: Tiki Children: Morgan Use: Partner for DLC Katarina Skills: Limit Breaker, Armsthrift, Sol, Ignis, Vengance Inventory: Forged Waste (Scale Tipper), Forged Celicas Gale (Tcale Sipper) 3 sets of Elixer Tiki Class: Manakete Husband: Aaron (The Avatar) Children: Morgan Use: Chrom's meat sheild Skills: Basically all the Manakete skills (+ Limit Breaker). 8. So I've been a fan of Rekka no Ken for awhile and was happy to have the opportunity to download Ursula (wish she was Limstella or Sonia, but better than nothing). I have maxed out her stats and been fooling around with builds--does anyone have any suggestions? Ursula @Sorcerer Gale Force/Luna/Armsthrift/Limit Breaker/All Stats +2 Weapon: Aversa's Night with Mt maxed out. Stats (Not factoring in All Stats + 2): 40 Strength 58 Magic 48 Skill 52 Speed 54 Luck 48 Defense 55 Resistance I picked Sorcerer for the access to dark magic and increased defenses. Was wondering if other skills such as Astra, Sol, Vengeance or Tomefaire might be better on her, but don't know what I'd drop for those.
  9. So...was eagerly awaiting playing the third route and...can't read the card that came with the game. I got the special edition one, but i can't find where the code to redeem is on the card. Could someone help me?
  10. Molgera Battle needs to come back for sure. Termina Field would be nice too. I would like to see some Hyrule Warriors tracks like Eclipse of the Sun, but it's very unlikely. They gave us a good number of songs for Dreamland 64, so I'm expecting the same amount for these two with some remixes included.
  11. I found a Gamefaqs forum post with these two links on it. By no means are these confirmed, I was just wondering what other people though about them? The first one has the avatar and Chrom having some kind of interaction, http://i.4cdn.org/vg/1435327558663.jpg The second one has a battlefield view with characters from both FE:Fates and FE: Awakening on it. http://i.4cdn.org/vg/1435328175687.jpg As I said, thoughts?
  12. For now, we all know that Marth, Ike, Lucina, Minerva, and Robin are DLC characters. What characters would you like to see... back in FIre Emblem IF? <<<MARTH <3
  13. Hey everyone, recently got back into Awakening, and I was playing the Apotheosis map, and I loved the music in it along with a few other tracks from DLC. I really want to own the tracks, but the thing is, I've been searching everywhere for downloads to the music, and can't seem to find it anywhere. I've looked through Serene's Forrest, officially released soundtracks, YouTube, and all over other anime/music downloads, and I can't find these tracks anywhere. I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction, or provide me with some links to obtain the tracks. Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who helps! Also, if this is in the wrong place, I apologize.
  14. So they haven't been confirmed nor denied yet but how do you guys feel about spotpass characters/maps and Einherjar characters returing? What characters from Awakening do you think would make it as Einherjar characters? Einherjar are the cards of characters from previous games you get once you beat their DLC chapters. Personally, I enjoyed the spotpass maps as they were far more challenging than the regular story maps and you could unlock more characters my favorite unlockable being Priam in Awakening. As far as the Einherjar from the DLC I thought it was a nice little addition to the game and a good nod to the past titles I was just kinda disappointed that they used generic avatars to build them save for Marth who got a unique class and appearence. I get that there are some limits with remaining in the art style and all but if they were to be implemented in the future then I'd hope that they'd have unique looks to them closer to how they originally appeared. Oh and the fact that spotpass chapters and characters were free was a huge plus as well.
  15. Hey everyone, hows it going? Hey, so recently I was looking around at the map sprites in Awakening, and I noticed that there are no map sprites for the Dread Fighter or Bride class in this game. I've searched everywhere, Serene's Forrest, VG resource, other Fire Emblem fan sites, and a good amount of time in Google Images searches, and I'm pretty sure the sprites haven't been ripped yet. If anyone here can help or knows of a place that can help, I'd very much appreciate it! (Side note: there are multiple palletes for each class).
  16. For outfits and hats, Zero needs to be in along with X. The duo must be reunited. He could be a Swordfighter using the Z saber. Ryu would make a good Mii Brawler based on another video game character.
  17. I picked up this game about a month ago, and have most certainly not regretted my decision. I've done one normal playthrough to get the feel of the game and I have just recently finished my second hard runthrough with about 60 hours. I use seven main pairs of units (3 first gen, 4 second gen), with all of them maxed out stat caps. I can post the list of characters later if anyone wishes to see. The main reason for my posting is that I managed to add 20 dollars to my eShop account, and am really looking forward to some of the DLC in game. I'd like to know what DLC(s) are what you'd recommend me getting with my money, for instance, what DLCs I should purchase in bundles or separately. Any and all feedback is appreciated, thanks a lot!
  18. For some Nintendo games, content in newer games can be unlocked through various means that often involve having possession of older games, such as using the save data from the older game to unlock the content (such as the Olimar trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee needing save data from the first Pikmin game to unlock) or being able to outright transfer content from the older game to the newer game (such as what can be seen in the main series Pokemon games). What do you guys think? To me, it could be possible that the DLC maps can see reuse with some adjustments alongside Spotpass content like legacy characters and bonus items.
  19. Hello, fellow Fire Emblem fans. I registered just now an I wanted to know if any of you can help me with my setup for the DLC chapter Apotheosis. I'm not really sure if what I did works out the way I planned it, so I'd like to have a second opinion about it. Thing is, I only just got around to buy all the DLC chapters so far and I haven't completed all of them (I'm missing the three just before Apotheosis and that one itself). I'm playing on Normal/Casual (because that one is my very first file and I didn't delete it until now. The only reason I used this file was because I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the DLC). So, anyway, I'd be glad, if you could judge my setup and maybe give a few suggestions as to what I can do better. Also, I apologize if I word certain things wrong/weird, because English isn't my native tongue *blush*. Okay, here goes. I know that I can use 20 units in Apotheosis, so I selected these: Dominik (My male Avatar): Asset: HP, Flaw: Luck. Class: Grandmaster; Skills: Limit Breaker, Aggressor, Ignis, Bowbreaker, Armshift Chrom: Great Lord; Skills: Limit Breaker, Dual Strike+, Dual Gurad+, Aggressor, Rightful King Sumia: Dark Flier; Skills: Limit Breaker, Tomefare, Luna, Galeforce, Iote's Shield Nowi: Manakete; Skills: Limit Breaker, Wyrmsbane, Lifetaker, Swordbreaker, Lancebreaker Lucina: Great Lord; Skills: same as Chrom, except Galeforce in place of Aggressor (obvious) (mother is Sumia) Cynthia: Falcon Knight; Skills: Same as Sumia, except Lancefare (or is it faire?) and Aether in place of Luna (father is Chrom) Morgan/Linfan: Manakete; Skills: Limit Breaker, Wyrmsbane, Ignis, Galeforce, Armshift (mother is Nowi) Nah: Manakete; Skills: Same as Morgan (father is Dominik (a.k.a. me)) Lissa: Sage; Skills: Rally Speed, Rally, Luck, Rally Resistance, Rally Movement, Rally Heart Owain: Assassin; Skills: Limit Breaker, Galeforce, Luna, Swordbreaker, Lancebreaker (father is Frederick) Severa: Hero; Skills: Limit Breaker, Armshift, Vengeance, Vantage, Bowbreaker (father is Lon'zu (Lon'qu for all North Americans) BURU (don't ask) (my best friend's Avatar): Asset: Magic, Flaw: Luck. Class: Dark Knight: Skills: Rally Strength, Rally Magic, Rally Skill, Rally Defense, Rally Spectrum Gwendolin (my female Avatar from my Hard/Classic run): Asset: Speed, Flaw: Defense. Class: Swordmaster; Skills: Limit Breaker, Dual Support+, Luna, Sol, Galeforce Priam: Hero; Skills: Limit Breaker, Luna, Sol, Swordbreaker, Lancebreaker Gerome: Wyvern Lord; Skills: Limit Breaker, Sol, Renewal, Swordbreaker, Iote's Shield (father is The Vaike) Noire: Sorcerer; Skills: Limit Breaker, Vengeance, Tomefaire, Pavise, Lifetaker (father is Libra) Say'ri: Swordmaster; Skills: Limit Breaker, Swordfaire, Astra, Galeforce, Lancebreaker Tiki: Manakete; Skills: Limit Breaker, Wyrmsbane, Slow Burn, Quick Burn, Swordbreaker Olivia: Dancer; Skills: Limit Breaker, Swordfaire, Astra, Special Dance, Galeforce Maribelle: Valkyrie; Skills: (not really relevant, because all she has to do is use Rescue staves) Alternate Rescue-bot: DLC-Eirika (Class: Bride) What do you think? How hard will the enemy curbstomp me? I heard a thing or two about Apotheosis, like that there is a harder Secret Path. Would you recommend I attempt that first or would you say stay away from it entirely? I'll be glad if someone out there would be kind enough to help me. Thanks in advance and sorry about wall of text.
  20. The site, royforsmash4.com, has received a complete remodel lately and close to 1,000 supporters via social media. All we have to do now is contact: -Both the Japanese and American Twitter accounts for Nintendo and Sakurai: https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/p370x247/10806422_675394742556535_8371856963359568165_n.jpg?oh=bfcf57cab8281f287174f6de3120fd05&oe=551C6CEF https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/p370x247/10806321_675394782556531_8852800882293331805_n.jpg?oh=94402bd44ff71446767a48df484b4088&oe=5513776A&__gda__=1427421624_4656b575de9f70444e1f2aad57c24972 https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/p370x247/10653441_675395082556501_8895445776791386660_n.jpg?oh=7d463b32a966c60adeeb8eaa2ae35c90&oe=551764A0&__gda__=1423926386_babe29909ef181e39ce04cf7c4a0c717 https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/p370x247/10734203_675394812556528_4831582214691892888_n.jpg?oh=8973986e6c93eabd9c7ccf0e1c55c4ff&oe=54E49583 -nintendo@noa.nintendo.com through personal e-mails. 21. I'm planning to get some DLC, but I don't know which ones. Which packs/ indivisual maps should I buy? The ones I'm planning are: Golden Pack, Rogues and Redeemers 3, the one that gives you dread fighter,Apotheosis. The ones I'm not sure are the all stats +2 one, the one that gives you the bride, and paragon.
  22. I know it's not likely at all, but, if it were up to you, which additional Fire Emblem character would you add to Smash 4? Personally, I would want Hector to be put in the game; Hector is my favorite FE lord character, and he loves to rumble. I'd like to see him stand toe-to-toe with the other Nintendo characters on the battlefield! P.S. I realize that other games need representation too, but this is just a "for fun" scenario for Fire Emblem. Have fun, and I look forward to hearing your ideas :)
  23. There have been plenty of threads about which classes play the best, but what about the classes that look the best? We're talking 100% aesthetics here. The actual effectiveness of any of the classes doesn't come into question. I think the best looking is the myrmidon class. I love classes that use fur, and the emblem on the sash takes the cake for me. The worst in my opinion goes to the Hero class. I don't what Intelligence Systems were thinking, making one of the best classes in the game look the most ridiculous. I don't even want Ike's DLC character because I think his avatar and portrait look silly. The only character in the game with a decent looking hero avatar is Flavia. Sucks that it's character exclusive to her, though.
  24. Hello FE fans. I have a few questions about DLC for Fire Emblem Awakening. I know this has been asked before, but I thought maybe some fresh opinions would be good, now that they've been out for so long, and whether they've withstood the test of time. Before I get into this, some info. I am a total newbie. I've never played any of the Fire Emblem series before, only vaguely heard of it. My only experience with turnbased strategy RPG games is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I have JUST finished Chapter 4, and unlocked the Outrealm Gate, only to discover there's TONS of DLC to buy. I Googled for the DLC, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the different responses. Currently I have about 9 bucks on my 3DS account, so I can buy 1 DLC pack, or 2 separate ones. My birthday is coming up soon, and I'm probably going to ask for Nintendo Eshop cards. My playstyle is kinda like Pokemon. Gotta catch em all, rather OCD about experiencing and getting everything. I have narrowed it down a little bit, to these: Golden Pack: EXPonential Growth for XP grinding, Golden Gaffe for gold grinding, Infinite Regalia for good items. (I like such games, but I suck at them, I need every advantage I can get....) Future Past Pack: The history of the future children. More backstory is always good, especially in this manner. Scramble Pack: ...........Because I'm an anime fan, and a bit of a perv. =P (I'm not sure this is a good thing to pay money for...) Right now, I can only choose 1 of these 3. The other two I'd have to wait until after my birthday. So which one would you recommend I get first? SHOULD I even buy DLC, since I have only just started? Are there any other noteworthy DLC (packs) I "really should get"? Also, HI!
  25. And I do mean "create." You're not dragging an old class from another Fire Emblem game and putting it in Awakening's roster. Let's say IS decided to do DLC again and add a new class to the game, and you were given creative authority on it. This class can be a standalone like the Dread Fighter or Bride or can be a new third tier class that caps at level 30. Please include Class Name, Weapons, 2 Skills (Since this is a DLC only class they'll be learned at levels 1 and 15. Just keep that in mind,) whether the class is gender exclusive or not; and finally, a brief description of the class that you would see at the promotion/reclassing screen. (If the class you create is the third tier to an existing class, please name the class it promotes from.) Now... Let me break the ice. Class Name: Warden Weapons: Spears & Tombs Skill 1: [Impale] - Allows the user to strike three times in one attack. Activation: Skill divided by 2. Skill 2: [Beastbreaker] - Increases Hit Rate & Evasion by 20% when fighting beast units. Gender Exclusivity: None Description: Wardens are knights who've trained in the wilderness to accumulate sharp instincts. They are especially deadly when facing beast units. Promotes From: None
