  1. I had to do a coinflip and Ryan won again. Next up is Ryan and Jubello and who wins is up to you!
  2. Malicia, he's not into you; get over it. Anyway, pick between Ryan and Malicia for your favorite character!
  3. I did a coin flip and Cecil won which means she now has a chance to go up against Ryan. Anyway, whoever wins this round is entirely up to you!
  4. Looks like Roderick was able to take down Luke, but will he win against Cecil? It's entirely up to you!
  5. It's time to begin yet another poll; this time focusing on the characters from FE3! To start with, we have Roderick vs Luke and who wins is entirely up to you!
  6. Anyone have know of any quality English translation patches for FE5 and FE3?
  7. What do you think of them? Any rankings? The best? The worst? Just post your thoughts. I'll rank them. 3. Luke 2. Cecil 1. Rody. Rody is the best by far in my opinion, his growths are well balanced for a well balanced class, and considering the huge amount of cavaliers you get, I'd say he's the third best. Cecil is mediocre, she has a high base weapon level, being able to use Alan's silver lance at start, she's really fast and has no trouble hitting enemies, but has a bad strength and HP growth. She's still the 4th best cavalier and if you really want a 4th cavalier, she's your pick. Give her a silver sword or lance, at she'll be decent, just give her starshards that boost her HP and Strength growth, and maybe defense if you wanna go the extra mile. Luke is the worst, he'll barely double anything with that 40% speed growth. And it's not like he makes up for it with his 30% strength growth. Sure, he has a 20% defense growth, ( Which is pretty high for FE3 standards, the max defense growth is 30% in that game) but Sirius has higher. Is it even worth using starshards on him when you got better cavaliers to choose from?
  8. I'll list mine from each game. Mystery of the Emblem: "Advance"(Beginning chapters theme)and "Holy War"(Final chapter theme} Genealogy of the Holy War: "Girl of the Spirit Forest"(Chapter 1 theme) and "Lionheart Eldigan"(Chapter 3 theme) Thracia 776:" Advance B" and "Base" (Haven't played much of Thracia 776)

    FE3 in GBA

So I've been mulling it over for a bit, and I think my next project will be a rough port of FE3 to FE8. I'll be basing this on the original Book 2, so there's no avatar present. Names will be to my preference, leaning towards pre-Shadow Dragon fan names and the FE3 translation. Stuff like rescue will still be present, so don't worry about that. And since talk is cheap, have this.
  10. I've played through FE3 many times and I know you're supposed to get the Silver Card from a thief that spawns on turn 10 during Chapter 10, but for some reason this stupid thief won't spawn. I've tried literally everything but I can't get the thief to appear, this is really bugging me and I really don't want to skip getting the Silver Card.
  11. Upon finally beating FE3's second book with all units recruited and alive, I finally got the Perfect Ending Chronology, the timeline of the continent of Akaneia. Around when it gets to the beginning of the War of Darkness, it freezes. I tried this with the old version of the patch and it did the same thing. I also tried it with a clean rom and it didn't glitch out here, but after the Fin at the very end of it all, it fades away, and then it does this: Is this just glitches with the patches? Or is my emulator playing some hand at this? I'm using SNES9X 1.53 on windows. I've even seen videos of this ending with no glitching and in complete English.
  12. I'd post in the old thread I made a week or so ago, but I didn't want to double post. http://imgur.com/gallery/vmBBc I'd say I'm about ready for it. What do the FE pros think? All 3 of your guys?
  13. So, I'm about a little past the halfway point of Book 2, chapter 16 to be exact and I wanted to ask how my team is looking. These are all the units I plan on bringing with me to the endgame, bar maybe Sheema. http://imgur.com/gallery/ajSGQ How is my current standings? I think I'm doing alright but the amount of HP some of my units have is a tad lacking for a lack of a better word.
  14. I created this a while ago and figured I'd post it here for those who are interested. The playthrough goes for full recruitment and growth rates have been set to 0. Here is the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLz9xZUchaeBVxe3hTWLBxuMBxyXeUURH I found out afterwards that I could save a turn by promoting Yumina by chapter 11 which would reduce the turn count 105. With growth rates I could save a turn training up Marth to kill Hardin instead of Chiki which would further reduce the counter to 104. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Ok so I ended up reworking my old run. I managed to save 2 more turns than I thought bringing to total to 102 which is pretty cool and I think the fastest ever done in full recruitment. I suspect this to be the fastest possible on full recruitment with or without growths.
  15. Hi I was thinking of playing Fe3 book 1(since fe11 is so damn awful) and Fe5(just because). I still want to play them, but I want to know is if they are fun?
  16. So, I remember hearing that in book 1, the Aum staff is only usable in front of the altar of a building in the center of the map of chapter 19. Are there any requirements like that for the Aum staff in book 2? Would I be able to use it anywhere or would it not do nothing if I'm not on a specific tile? I didn't use it in book 1 since I had no casualties up until that point.
  17. Pretty self explanatory question, I'm replaying Book 1 and am planning on doing Book 2 directly after, and I'm curious what's better for both books, wait until level 20 like I should, or is it better do to it a little early?
  18. Recently, I purchased Mystery of the Emblem and Genealogy of the Holy War from a convention last week. They both come with some really nice art and FE4 even includes a map of Jugdral. I'm fairly new to scanning, and I'm not exactly sure what I should keep an eye out for. I want to try and scan both instruction booklets in full, and want them to look presentable. Here's an example of something I scanned, a card included with Mystery including several of the characters you start with. http://imgur.com/a/LojKF The scanner I'm using is a Deskjet 2050, it's currently the only scanner I have access to.
  19. It’s been almost two years since I almost-but-not-quite finished a screenshot LP of FE3 Book 1, and I’m back, this time for Book 2. If you’ve been waiting for the exciting conclusion to Book 1 (which, I’m sure you haven’t, since it was ages ago) then just picture Marth getting anticlimactically warped over to Medeus and poking him with the Falchion, and then get ready for a new, fun filled adventure, featuring new faces and conspicuously lacking in certain others. Anyway, to make things more exciting, I’ve decided my first run should be a challenge run of sorts, so here are my rules: 1) I’m not gonna look anything up. I’ve never played Book 2 and only played the first half-ish of 12 years ago, so it’s mostly blind, excluding the fact that I have ambient knowledge of what goes on just from learning them second hand over the years, like how I need the star orb things and how you recruit the Bishop girls in the final chapter 2) Since playing through Binding Blade with only crappy units was so much more fun than playing regularly, I’m going to do the same here. Since I couldn’t find an actual tier-list, I’m going to use the characters who are ranked as worst of their class on the unit ratings on the SF page for Mystery of the Emblem, aka over here: http://serenesforest.net/mystery-of-the-emblem/characters/character-ratings/ This means I’ll be using: Marth, Midia, Ryan, Sheema, Yumina, Est, Warren, Elleran, Ricardo, Samson, Feena, Bantu, and Chainey. I’m also going to allow myself to use the 4 units who can recruit the girls in the final chapter, aka Sirius, Merric, Minerva, and Julian, since I want to go for full recruitment and also I don’t really want to solo the first half of the game with just Marth and two bowmen. 3) Malliesia is legal until I get Yumina Anyway, without further ado: [spoiler=Chapter 1] Here goes nothing The game starts out with a little scrolly intro, but it’s hard to cap and really long. Essentially, the war from Book 1 is finally over and Hardin is Emperor of the World now. More preamble. The war is over, Jeigan is too old to fight, and Sheeda and Marth got married. Also, I had to use the old translation patch, since for some reason the new one absolutely refused to work for me this time around. So, sorry for the outdated names. I love that Hardin just sends Marth a letter. “Dear Marth, please go kill some bad guys, love Hardin, XOXOXO” The chapter starts off with this guy bossing Marth and his army of nobodies around. He’s just your average friendly old man, nothing to see here Anyway, here are the only two units I have that I’m allowed to use. Marth is pretty decent, since I’m pretty sure caps are all 20, but Ryan looks 12 years old and has the stats to match. I start off by trading Marth a sword that I don’t mind using up and then get to work on the first enemy. It’s a pretty standard bandit chapter, since plotwise the rebel army is already all but eliminated. More trading, since Gaggles won’t ever be seeing the light of day The enemies pile up on top of me, but Marth has Lord magnetism and Ryan is completely helpless, so they conveniently don’t even bother trying to attack the guys I’m not using Mopping up a few more bandits A whole bunch of thieves spawn from this cave, which is kind of weird, since there’s only one village and it’s across the map so it’s in no danger. I think they just want to feed you a bunch of free exp Marth gets the first level of the playthrough, and he doesn’t disappoint I have him down a vulnerary and head to the village, since Marth is the only one who can visit in this game Malliessia get. I’ll be using her for like, two chapters Ryan gets his first level, and it’s the same as Marth’s. Maybe there’s hope for him yet? I pick up an extra iron bow, since I don’t want Ryan to run out. Marth can keep snagging swords off my cavs, so I didn’t bother buying anything else. These guys don’t attack, they just kind of wander back and forth aimlessly I wanted him to chip for Ryan, but Marth doubles and kills them Levels. They’re noticeably worse than the last ones. When you get too close, Lawrence and Ogma pop up Lawrence tells Ogma to take the kids to safety, Yumina refuses to go and then… Lawrence just accepts that? She’s a 13 year old girl, Ogma could have just carried her away to safety without breaking a sweat and a lot of trouble could have been avoided. I’ve got Marth holding this fort, but Ryan can’t cross mountains, so it looks like the rest of the map is a Marth solo. Marth hits levels 6 and 7 fighting off the orgy of bandits. At this rate, Marth is gonna hit 20 before I even get any star shards. Marth can Talk to Lawrence to end the chapter without having to fight him The reason you don’t have to fight is because Lawrence spontaneously explodes, somehow. This isn’t explained in the slightest. Marth seizes, and then the kids show up. They’re not too happy about the whole explosion business. Marth tries to save the children, but Lang is a dick, so he refuses and sends Marth off to Minerva’s country, Macedonia, where she’s allegedly being held captive. And… that’s it for Chapter 1! Hopefully things are more exciting and less infodumpy as things progress.
  20. The one I have only lets me select 1 or all, so I can't edit any 1-2, 2, or 3-10 range weapons without their ranges being changed.
  21. ...without things going wonky? I know in the GBA games it's 31, but what about the SNES ones?
  22. I'm playing through FE3 Book 2 and was wondering if Samto was good. I'm on Chapter 7 and so far he just seems like a generic merc unit, so I gave his Killing Edge to Oguma. Should I use him?
  23. I liked it quite a bit. Felt a bit primitive compared to the remakes but overall I felt it was a very solid game. Biggest surprises for me was the 20 point stat caps across the board. Virtually everyone had hit caps in everything except defense and resistance. Star shards and star orb really make it easy to hit stat caps, stat items give huge bonuses. Dismounting is a fun mechanic and it would be nice to see a variation of it in the future. Arenas are death traps with random turn order. Overall ranking 7/10, the game itself is really solid and holds up today with the only problems being an outdated interface and somewhat slow enemy phases.
  24. In the favorite villains thread I partly discussed this, but we have a rather interesting dynamic here between FE3 and FE4 in the category of loyalty. Wolf, leader of the Wolfguard, was saved by Hardin when he was in slavery in Aurelis. Along with his fellows, Sedgar, Roshea and Biraku Vyland. They pledged their loyalty to Hardin, to death. Which actually happens in Mystery of the Emblem, The Wolfguard tragically stands against Marth other than Roshea and falls alongside their now Dark Emperor despite his fall to darkness. Wolf never even questions his lords orders, in New Mystery of the Emblem, the Wolf Guard can all be spared and join, however Wolf is the last and least likely to fight against his lord. In the end of New Mystery if he survives he ends up throwing himself into battles hoping to die to join his departed master (unless Femu has a support with him if I recall). Finn, a young Lenster knight devoted to his lord Prince Quan, his loyalty is also noted in various chats with other characters and extends into his later life after Quan and Ethlyn tragically die after a Thracian ambush near Barhara. Finn looks after Leif, Quan's son as a dutiful attendant and father figure. When the king of Lenster is slain and Finn has to get Leif to safety he follows him to the absolute end, helping him endure struggle after struggle in Thracia 776, later when he meets Leif's sister. Altenna he openly shows his emotions for the first time in quite some time, according to himself. He's also loyal to Lachesis, who we can fight over canon about, but even the main site explains "After the events of Geneaology of Holy War, Fin leaves Prince Leaf and goes to fulfill an unknown personal agenda. There are later rumours of him being spotted looking for someone in the Yied Desert, in the same area where Lachesis had been supposed to pass through years before only to never be seen again." So there you have 2 characters highly driven by loyalty, is Finn a take on Wolf from a still tragic yet not completely hopeless case? Did IS just happen to like this kind of character to give us two characters who demonstrated loyalty both one who oft spoke when he could or felt like it, to the more quiet and always serious (which funny enough Finn also shows these traits after Quan and Ethlyns untimely ends). I just felt it was an interesting duo to talk about. Both characters are absolutely loyal to their lords. The world changing/removing their lords provides both with various challenges, which they react to very differently. Yet you can't help but see SOME similarities.
  25. I just wanna know before I dive in if FE3's not going to entirely beat me up for not learning some little dance routine trick or something. If it is possible to do so (even if frustratingly hard) then I might do a play log of it for luls, including times reset/reasons for reset if they're significant enough to note. I've never done a play log before to be quite honest, but they seem very interesting to do. I'm just curious as to if anyone would be interested in watching someone semi-new to FE stumble about an older game.
