  1. I'm trying to change the Yewfelle from a bow to a lance. I changed the weapon type to throwing lance in Nightmare, but the animations it uses are glitchy, and it's clearly still counted as a bow. I assume because it's a holy weapon there's more I'd have to alter than if I were trying to change a regular weapon (although I futzed with the holy blood editor and that didn't seem help.) Also, the character that's receiving the Yewfelle has a different class and sprite, and the convo that gives them the weapon tends to (but doesn't always) lock the game, and is visually glitchy. Is there a way to solve that?
  2. Mostly title, but to expand, I was curious as to best make use of the Wrath skill in FE4. I know that the units that do come with it in vanilla wouldn't likely get too much time to shine with it due to lack of mounts (except promoted Arthur), but I'd still like to learn how to best use the skill in semi-efficient playthroughs (if any one using Tailtiu and Tine can be considered such), especially since I'm not keen on pairing Tailtiu with Finn to give them Miracle.
  3. Now that Shadows of Valentia has been released and has found success in Japan and all over the world, it seems like IS wants to continue the "Echoes" sub-series. For now it seems like they're leaning toward remaking Binding Blade but I can still hope that Genealogy of the Holy War will get a glorious and proper remake. Assuming that a Genealogy Echoes will be released, what kind of things do you want to see in it? I have a few ideas: Lots and lots of animated cut scenes. GotHW has the best story in FE so I would love to see as much of it developed as possible. Side-stories, flashbacks, all that good stuff. Breaks during the chapters. It not news to anyone that the maps are huge and have a lot of empty space, so breaking them up with cut scenes and a camp or something will make the maps less overwhelming. Add the possibility to get ALL holy weapons. Make it so Lex's kids can inherit Helswath and Azel's kids can get Valflame, etc. Return of the Turnwheel mechanic but obviously with some other lore-friendly gimmick More lovers(support) conversations for all the characters Bonus chapters for other scenarios like Ares retaking Agustria Excellent orchestrations of the OST and new music Fully voice acted(or mostly like SoV) Being able to pair Seliph and Julia without a glitch Adapt that sweet, sweet Eldigan arc from the Oosawa manga That's what I had in mind, anyone have other thoughts? Ideas? I want to know what other people expect for a game like this.
  4. This new mode is pretty fun, I hear. Anyone bringing their friends into the battlefield with them? Show off your army!
  5. Enemy unit leadership stars Pros: Encourages you to approach combat differently, since assassinating enemy sub-commanders will allow you to debuff armies rather than fighting them at their full strength. Cons: Flat stat bonuses aren't always a good way to create a challenge. Especially in the case of hit and avoid. Fire emblem AI does not focus on walling off it's support characters. (although it's not a complicated AI to program as shown by games like Vantage Master). FE4 and FE10 use enemy's starting position to forcefully provide a simile of this, but they can be forced out of it far easier than a human or a strategy game AI would and make no effort to get back into this position once they get out of it. In some cases, if you can kill an enemy leader, then you are probably done with the map anyway (or 1 seize turn away), so sticking around to fight weakened becomes tedious and non-threatening. (grind abuse VS something like an early finish bonus) This can be avoided with larger maps or multiple bosses, but those open up their own problems. If the stat bonuses are too large then killing leaders overshadows all other aspects of the combat design (Ogre Battle SNES and N64 being examples of this) Visual confusion if you have enemies benefiting from both an overall leader and a sub-boss leader at same time, some units only receiving bonus from their own group, etc. Maps designed to allow for assassinations are often unnatural (even in other genres) and tend to go ham on player advantages or forcing players to follow a "script" Player unit leadership stars Pros: Encourages you to deploy units that you might not otherwise. gameplay advantages of more hit/avoid Allows a representation of charisma or tactical ability for characters in the story rather than the cursor and unit selector. Cons: In FE10 the effect was free and map wide, which allows for a version of FE 13-14's "backpacking" problem - leadership units could be deployed and left at your base or out of combat solely for the bonus with no risk and don't really add to the scenario. You don't need to position the leadership unit to get the advantage of the effect as with more conventional support bonus buffs or abilities like FE5's charm. (Or something like Langrisser's / Days of Ruin leadership zone) Protecting your VIP to keep the leadership boost as long as possible doesn't really add a gameplay dynamic in a FE context the way microing a "Stimpack" unit in a strategy game does. This is because of the encouragement to keep ALL troops alive, which means that most players will already be moving units conservatively to being with. FE10 overbalances the mechanic, to the point where it's possible to totally ignore it during a blind playthrough. If it was too beneficial, you would have a situation where players would feel obliged to always commit a deployment spot for these characters, which works against the freedom of army composition that Fire Emblem traditionally encourages. It's generally suggested to be placed on Lord units for story/flavor reasons, but in cases where those characters are force-deployed (a design choice of most FE games), it has no functional difference than having all the characters have higher base stats.
  6. I haven't played Genealogy of the Holy war yet so I know next to nothing about the story save for the one plot point that keeps getting spoiled by dumb memes, but I've heard from the FE Wiki that the Manga for Genealogy of the Holy War expands on the plot, characters and world so I thought I'd ask those of you who've played FE4 if a potential remake game should adapt that manga or if you'd be satisfied with an expansion of the game itself. Feel free to let me know if there's already been an ask like this.
  7. Hey y'all! So I finally snagged myself an SNES Classic due to sheer luck, hacked the crap outta of it and added FE4 to the mix. Now I'm crazy and I want to make the PERFECT North American box art for FE4 to add to my mini SNES, but I'm having a hard time finding the perfect cover art to work with. I started with the regular box artwork, but then I found pictures of the same art just less cropped. I'm wondering if anyone out there has or has at least seen the complete uncropped (or nearly uncropped) artwork at a high resolution? These are what I've been finding, the 1st image is the closest to what I've been looking for, I'd just need it at a high resolution. But I noticed that there is even more to the image, because the calendar adds extra to the bottom (sadly by sacrificing the top). So yeah, if anyone knows something that I don't I'd love to hear about it. I'm sure that there are more people looking for the complete artwork as well. Thanks everyone!
  8. Hello there. Two quick questions: - is threre a way to alter the look of the world map in fe4? - is there a way to make enemy retake castles instead of just destroying them?
  9. Is it possible to make 3rd tier classes for Fire Emblem 4? If so how? I thought it could work well since levels don't reset in FE4 so the issue of having to gain extra exp in shorter games wouldn't be an issue it could work something like one of these: 1 to 2: Lv10, 2 to 3: Lv20 1 to 2: Lv15, 2 to 3: Lv25 1 to 2: Lv20, 2 to 3: Lv30 if anyone has any info at all on this please inform me
  10. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Binary Translation Patch FEBinary is a Japanese romhack of FE4, which seeks to enhance the gameplay by giving the player more options in how to go about things. It adds things such as branched promotions, new weapons and classes, dismount, and fixes some of the worst of the imbalances: Pursuit is no longer mandatory to double, and everyone can critical. The only problem? It was in Japanese, and the translation patch didn't work for it. Until now. I decided to go and translate the menus of Binary, so now non-Japanese speakers now know what they're actually doing. And beware; new games default the player to hard mode. Read the readme! Patching instructions included! The standard patch demands a headered Japanese ROM. This is a menu patch first and foremost, though there is now placeholder dialogue through the prologue. Beyond that, all dialogue is gibberish. Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1tvna8uksp0tmj4/Binary Translation v07.zip?dl=0
  11. I have a friend who has has a lot of experience playing Genealogy. However, the most recent time she played the game she witnessed something she had never seen before. Sigurd and Deirdre were next to each other and a heart appeared, resulting in an instant crit. I haven't spent a lot of time playing fe4 so i didn't have too much to contribute to this anomaly, but both of us decided to do a little bit of research. We found nothing. Has anyone else experienced this sort of instant crit before?
  12. After completing FE4 recently, one of possible idea that I had was that what if Julia has gotten the major Loptyr and Julius has gotten the major Naga? Sort of what King Azmur wanted but Julia wasn't expected. I figured the story of the 2nd gen will go the same way, but Julia would have Ishtar as an underling. Not so sure who would be a romantic interest for this version of Julia.
  13. This is just my prediction for the next FE Echoes remake. I have no idea whether or not this will be true but here goes nothing. As much as I want FE4 to be remade I'd have to say that the next FE remake will be FE6 and 7 together because you can't have one without the other. FE7 is the prequel to 6 and 6 never made it outside Japan and that being the continuation for the story of FE7 I would only see fit that both of them get remade maybe not on the same cartridge but considering how FE 3 have both a remake of FE1 and had the sequel on one cartridge, its a possibility. So, why FE6 and 7 you say? Well, I've been thinking. You know how Awakening and Fates both had an avatar, pair up, the marriage system and Risen/Faceless. Shadows of Valentia has no marriage system, no avatar, no pair up, but has Terrors. So I've been thinking that IS is just taking a break from the marriage system and just giving us the core Fire Emblem gameplay without having to stress about who are we going to pair up in battle and who's a good mother/father for this particular child character. We are just playing the core game for awhile, and I think that FE6 and 7 are coming next simply because of that. But as for the return of the avatar, I'd rather him be a silent protagonist like Mark in FE7 but still no marriage system. I mean, I haven't payed all that much attention to other people's opinion on their view point of the marriage system as of today but I think we need a break from it and just play Fire Emblem for the strategy and not the child rearing. BUT after FE6 and 7 comes out FE4 and 5 come next with the original marriage system (at least in 4) and child characters that fit perfectly into the story. I think IS is just letting things stay familiar and not letting things like the marriage system and the avatar go stale where to the point that no one wants it to return. The marriage system and the avatar will return later maybe not in the same game but will separately for sure. Like FE7 for the avatar and FE 4 for the marriage system. It's just splitting things up to keep things fresh. But who's to say these two won't appear together in the upcoming FE Switch? What are your guy's thoughts on this?
  14. Fire Emblem 4-7 Mod http://www.mediafire.com/file/6nvwbppt0c7e0to/emblem-kings-0.11.1.rar It is a blessing to see it finally leave Alpha and now populated.
  15. This thread will contain my attempt at writing some history for the world of Genealogy. It will have a sort of historical essay feel, with elements from historical writings (notably the Romance of the Three Kingdoms) and the books of authors such as John Keay. In some regards, my conjectures may prove inaccurate: in that case, please inform me by comment or by PM so that I can change it. Over time, after documenting history to the defeat of Julius at Belhalla, I plan to go on into a description of the economy and political dynamics of the post-Julius world before continuing onward. Of course, I may do it the other way around. Suggestions and criticisms are of course welcome. Thanks to @Interdimensional Observer for giving me the idea through his "An Overview of the History of Valentia..." thread. I will start a poll asking what I should start with. Based on these results, I hope to start work on this "historical document" as soon as possible.
  16. Uh well after all the time spent on it finally, finally I feel it is ready and completed. The final version of my Fire Emblem hack project. I call it Fire Emblem 4: Overpowered. As the name suggests things are overpowered in this hack in fact everything is player characters and enemies especially everything is inflated in some way affectively becoming broken. Now the concept of my hack may turn a few of you off due to it`s nature but my earlier version actually had some people actually love the overpowered characters and stuff. So I hope more will feel the same with this final one. This is my first ever hack and it really isn`t supposed to be all that serious a project if it was I would have done something much large scale than this. This hack is pretty much for a few laughs as some of the edits I did are crazy as heck this is pretty much fire emblem on crack or something haha Sigurd`s hair is even purple in this. This hack was largely done out of my love of Holy Weapons I always loved how epic it was in FE4 when you fought against someone like Ishtar or someone and you would face them down with a holy weapon or your own and that epic white flash would come across the screen for both of you. I`ll make a short list of changes in this hack here the rest you can see in the readme file I have included with the patch please do read the readme there is vital info inside that needs to be known and I address a few things about the hack in there too. Also another note about this hack it can be patched to english with an english I tested it by downloading an english patch from here it works. Because I have had many people constantly ask me is there an english patch for this hack so yes you can patch over it again and turn it english everything remains intact in the hack. Patch Download:http://www.mediafire.com/file/92uwlx62xjb25dq/FE4_Overpowered_patch.zip *Almost everyone has a holy weapon enemies included there are also fake holy weapons in here most are strong silver weapons or magic spells that give the same bonuses but have inferior attack power and accuracy. *Almost every deleted or unused skill or item are brought back here everything from the Silence Sword to Darkness Sword skill and Holy Sword. Ah and the Great Arch is revived here too basically the strongest Ballista type enemy that just never made it in the final release of the original game don`t know why. I woulda have included the charm staff and thief staff too but those are impossible since they just lock the thing up and freeze it. *Substitute characters don`t suck anymore. They are actually worth using however still inferior in ways to the regular children. they have inferior skill sets most of them and in this game skills are vital especially stuff like awareness and charisma. Awareness is a godsend in this hack because a lot of weapons now do extra damage to certain classes or enemies have the critical skill which is insta death so pay attention to special skills. *More love options. Altenna can now be paired up and Yuria can too no more relying on the jealousy system you can pair her up normally. The substitute units can also be paired with literally anyone yes even sibling pairups so yep sums that up. *Oddly colored maps yeah remember how I said this is like if fire emblem is on crack or something I think the colors of some of the maps I did shows that for sure don`t be shocked at weird colored water and stuff. *you can now do the triangle attack there are 2 sets Fin, Ethlin & Cuan and then there is Celice, Leaf & Aless *Almost everyone can class change so keep an eye for that. Even pre promoted units like Cuan or Hannibal can change classes. Also Diadora can class change too no longer is she locked to Shaman. Speaking of Diadora you can now sell her Circlet. *Almost every Holy Weapon can be sold and passed around. Most all Holy weapons are merely A rank weapons now. The only ones I left locked are Naga and Loptousu because they are both way too OP even for this game standards to just be passed around. So be careful with Loptousu as you only get 1 from a village and the person must have major Lopto blood to use if not you are screwed as ya can`t sell it in the shop. If you are curious to what village it`s the village on chapter 9 that has Loptousu your gonna want that. But keep it away from Tyrfing and Naga yes Tyrfing negates Lopto`s affects so only 2 threats and well..critical hits those will do it. Anyway I think that about sums up this hack again be sure to check the readme file and hope some of you actually enjoy this little silly project. I`ll leave a few screen shots and video footage of the gameplay so you can see how it plays out as I am also recording gameplay of it to show it off.
  17. Please note that I have not played Genealogy yet. That being said, in the various Fire Emblem websites that I visited, there is much appreciation for the story in FE4. But most of the praise seems to be focused on the first generation of Sigurd's tale. With the second generation feeling like it is glossed over. Why is that? When does the first half have so much admiration, while the the second half has few mentions? This question has been bothering me for some time.
  18. I'm planning on hosting a dance panel at Metrocon (Tampa FL). I have a lot of music already, but some of these songs loop and the actual part that I can use is between 30 seconds and 1 minute. Also I can't use every song that comes my way since music for games isn't always something that can be used for dance. I want to try to use a song from every Fire Emblem, so if anyone knows of songs that I can use that are between 2 and 5 minutes with no looping and not from Blazing Sword, Awakening, Fates, or Echoes (I already have songs from those games I can use) I'd really appreciate the extra ears looking for this.
  19. What if the fire emblem heroes were to fall and all their adventures were given to random people? The fire emblem has been corrupted by the presence of the fell dragons, now a lone group of adventurers must travel to the different worlds and pick up where the fallen heroes started. (roleplay is welcome to everyone, would prefer it if we roleplayed on discord. Canon and ocs are allowed
  20. I keep running into snapshot errors around FE4 Chapter 7 on Snes9x and I was thinking it was possible So I can pick up from a specific part where I left off in FE4 on Higan emulator rather than deal with Snes9x's annoying snapshot error bug, does anyone know how to do that? It'd make my playthrough a lot more fun if i didnt have to replay huge chunks of gameplay even though i save state consistently.
  21. So I started playing FE4 for the first time a few days ago, and I am thouroughly enjoying it. I only just cleared chapter two, and there are some things I actually like a lot about the game's ambitious design choices, and so far I've found that the writing (willing to cut some slack due to potential loss of meaning or nuance in the translation) to be better than pretty much every other FE game I've played or watched a playthrough of -- aside from probably the Tellius games for plot, and I love the characters of Sacred Stones. Considering the resources at the time of this game's development, they tried some really ambitious things, and I feel like they did quite well with what they had at the time. I actually really enjoy the massive maps that span half a country. It makes me feel like I'm actually leading a campaign into a foreign nations, it makes betrayals and support by other castles/factions within those maps feel more impactful and immediate than, say, everything about Iago in Conquest. It makes the game take a lot longer per chapter, but there are significantly fewer chapters to balance that out. Being able to repair weapons and abuse the arena is nice too, though probably not great challenge wise (unless the difficulty spikes later on, which I hope it does). I enjoy the OST a lot, the player phase music so far hasn't been as active as the newer games, because of the longer maps. Its pretty chill, and that helps it be relaxing and makes it more enjoyable for me. Sigurd is over-fucking-powered, as is Quan to an extent, but I don't really mind that. I've already been spoiled as to some things plotwise, so I'd appreciate nobody dropping spoilers in the responses. I like some of the class decisions, like troubadours getting swords -- even though that kinda doesn't make a ton of sense, it's fun. The game is pretty strongly cavalry-emblem, but there are a few non-mounted units that I feel are strong enough to slow down for (Deirdre, Ayra the Goddess, Llewyn), and I like how the characters so far seem to be non-tropey. Cavalry units feel like the harassing, in-and-out mobile attacking force that they were in actual history, and as bad for balance as that is, it feels good to use. So far, my biggest gripe with the game is the total lack of a trading mechanic. It's just tedious and annoying and unfun. The way skills work is interesting, and I'm not sure I like it or not. Doubling and Crits being locked to skills feels unnatural to me, but some skills are interesting -- it feels like this system was a template for the FE9/10 skill system. So far, I'm loving the game. I would, with only what I've played so far, happily buy an Echoes remake of this, because the ambitions of this game could be fully realized by modern tech resources -- and that would be a pleasure to see.
  22. Here's this TCG artwork of Seliph that I really like, and I'm looking for a png of just Seliph himself from this, transparent of course I can't seem to find it anywhere, but if you have a source to it or can post it, I would really appreciate it. Or you can Photoshop him out of there. Mila knows that I can't...
  23. (Wasn't sure if this would go here or in Fan Projects, so I flipped a coin.) This is just me being curious, but would it be possible to use FE4's engine to create a ROM hack? I don't mean a translation, but using the game's engine to create an entirely new game from scratch (new sprites, new map design, new classes, new weapons, etc.) Of course, all things in this area are difficult, but I'm wondering if it has ever been done before/could it be possible.
  24. So I just finished playing Binding Blade, which is my last gba title. I want to jump into the NES/SNES era of games and thought Genealogy would be a good snes era game to start with. But is there any other title I should play before that? And what tips should I know before jumping in? Thanks in advance.
