  1. I wanted to share off my Stream that I'm going to be playing Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook. I wanted to start off playing #1 today on Chapter 1 through 3 today. I'm planning on adding #2 somewhere in my YouTube schedule in the future. I'm going to complete Chapter 4 in the next one.
  2. Back in November of last year, I took it upon myself to see if Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon can be beaten with only Marth attacking and advancing. After overcoming a few hurdles I have managed to beat the entire game with this restriction on Hard-1. It was challenging but I knew that this would be possible as I felt that the playtesters would have made sure that on lower difficulties that the game won't soft-lock as Marth is the only unit the player has, as they would find that all their other units would die in each chapter (assuming you ignore the replacement units provided). I will admit that chapters 1, 6, 15 and the Endgame chapter were the hardest and there were times I thought that this was not feasible. It would be great to hear your thoughts and ideas. 🙂 Video:
  3. Warning: Before I say anything, you're probably going to have a difficult time using this if you have no experience in python, even though you don't need to code yourself. This is because this tool requires python, which you can simply download, but also requires Pandas. I use Pycharm and let it manage all my packages, but setting pycharm up or managing the packages yourself can be troublesome if you've never used it before. That's why it really helps if you already have a working Python environment with Pandas. You can ask questions, and I'll try to help, but I can't guarentee success. link This is a tool which I created mostly for myself, but I realised some other people may find enjoyment in it too. You can use it to either randomize the class (and character ranking) for Sacred Stones/Shadow Dragon/New Mystery/Awakening/Fates/Echoes/Three Houses or maximaze stat growths for kids in Genealogy/Awakening/Fates. How to do this I've explained in the readme.md, so just read it there and if it isn't clear, you can ask what I mean. If I were a better programmer (both in skill and in ethic) I would make my creation more user-friendly, by creating a gui or something, but I didn't, so now you have to install a couple of randomly strewn files from github. You need everything there except the readme (though you may want to read it), ui.py and main.py and just put it in a folder (probably an IDE project folder). From here you can follow the instructions in the readme. If you manage to make it work on you computer, I'd appreciate feedback if you encounter some mistakes. Some I know and I'm not planning to fix (You can use Gunter and Jakob both in Conquest and Revelations but they only have an A+ in Conquest), and one other I only just remembered during writing that it existed (the fates randomizer does not yet take into account child marriage), but there will probably be many I don't.
  4. This patch integrates exclusive items from the now-defunct Online Shop into normal gameplay. Why does that matter? Well, I'll let the wiki explain it: "Along with most Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection services, the online shops in both Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem permanently closed on May 20th, 2014. For Shadow Dragon, this had the effect of rendering the Elysian Whip (and in turn the Falcoknight class) and three of the Brave weapons as essentially unused content... for new save files created after that date on original cartridges." [Emphasis mine] Now, all those items are back in the game as droppable items (or in some cases, in the starting inventory of certain characters). A list of what went where: Chapter 7 - generic archer has droppable Longbow Chapter 9 - generic pirate has droppable Poleax Chapter 11 - pegasus knight has Elysian Whip Chapter 13 - boss has Master Seal Chapter 14 - boss has Master Seal Chapter 15 - generic dracoknight has Elysian Whip Chapter 18 - Sternlin (the boss) has Brave Lance Chapter 19 - generic hero that starts near Tiki has Brave Sword; Tiki has Elysian Whip (droppable, if you want to kill her to access 24x) Chapter 20 - Lorenz has Brave Bow (not droppable; must recruit him to get it) Chapter 20x - Ymir starts with Brave Axe (not droppable; must recruit him to get it) Chapter 6x - Athena starts with Wo Dao Be warned, these enemies will use these new items against you until you kill them and claim the weapons for your own. However, depending on your difficulty (primarily if you're playing on Normal), two or three of the above enemies will lack the weapon rank required to use the new items, although they will still drop them as normal. On higher difficulties, all bets are off - everybody is skilled enough to use everything in their new arsenal against you. In addition, Falcoknights have been updated to use their FE12 stats; previously, as the class was not in the original FE1, the developers intended it mostly as an easter egg and did not seem to balance it. As a result, the Falcoknight had absolutely no advantages over the Dracoknight. Now, the Falcoknight has higher Speed, Skill, and a higher maximum Speed, but lower Strength than the Dracoknight, in line with their appearance in FE12. There are two versions of the patch: OnlineItemsInGame.XDELTA incorporates the Updated Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch. OnlineItemsWithHardPrologue.XDELTA incorporates BOTH the Updated Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch and the Prologue in Hard Modes Patch. USE ONLY ONE PATCH, NOT BOTH. This was made using the US version of FE11, so you should use an .nds file from that region. Installation: 1. If you have not already, download the Delta Patcher utility here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/ 2. Obtain an unmodified ROM of FE11. I cannot help you do this. 3. Extract DeltaPatcherLite.exe, your unmodified .nds file of FE11, and EITHER OnlineItemsInGame.xdelta OR OnlineItemsWithHardPrologue.xdelta to the same folder. DO NOT USE BOTH .xdelta FILES; CHOOSE ONLY ONE. The difference is explained above. 4. Open DeltaPatcherLite.exe. 5. Click the "Open" button for the "Original file" box and select the unmodified .nds file of FE11. 6. Click the "Open" button for the "XDelta patch" box and select EITHER OnlineItemsInGame.xdelta OR OnlineItemsWithHardPrologue.xdelta. 7. Click the "Apply Patch" button. Users with older PCs may have to wait a few moments. 8. Your previously unmodified file, which you selected in step 5 as the "Original file", is the patched ROM you should now use. 5. I've challenged myself to beat Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon with only Marth being able to attack and advance. Many other people have managed to beat other games like Pokémon with only one party member (typically an infamously bad Pokémon), but I don't see many people do this with Fire Emblem. So, I thought it would be a fun idea to play the game with this restriction. The difficulty is set to on Hard-1, to give myself a fair challenge. So far, I have managed to get up to chapter 13 with (relative) ease. I'd love to hear your thoughts. 🙂 Link:
  6. So, me and another guy in our discord server decided to run a Shadow Dragon draft. Problem: No one else in the server is up for it right now, as far as I know. If anyone wants in, feel free to DM me and I'll send you the server link. The rules are: One last thing: Despite me hosting this draft... don't expect me to attempt to LTC. I just don't do that, and I'll be anything but the winner, but I do this for the sake of unique army compositions.
  7. Hello, I just got a copy of Shadow Dragon on Ebay. While playing I notice a very quick screen (Like blink and you will miss it.) glitch when I am speeding through the text quickly by pressing A. On a lower screen of the DS a white line will show up for a second then disappear, I notice it happens when the characters are talking while the map is being shown below. Like the part when Lena and Julian are talking to each other at the start of chapter 3. Though the thing is it doesn't always happen I tested that part like five times and the single white line only showed up like the first three tries. I just want to know if anyone else has seen this before? I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing I have a bad habit of doing that, I mean the game works fine and its authentic, I was just want to know is all. Thank you if I can have an answer.
  8. Allows the player to always recruit Norne at the end of Prologue 4, regardless of how many units are alive. Alterations have been made to Chapters 1-3 to accomodate having her as an extra unit. FE11AlwaysRecruitNorne.xdelta incorporates the Prologue in Hard Modes Patch, for obvious reasons. FE11RecruitNorneWithGaidens.xdelta incorporates BOTH the Updated Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch AND the Prologue in Hard Modes Patch. USE ONLY ONE PATCH, NOT BOTH. For those wondering, a patch that merges all of my Shadow Dragon mods will be coming shortly, and will also feature compatibility with the Sync Patch. I wanted to provide this mod as a stand-alone patch, however, for users that don't want to use all of my mods at once.
  9. Since Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light localize release is coming to tomorrow, I do think that we need someone to help out gathering some remaining scripts from the official localize release from the Nintendo Switch eShop so that we can help out @VincentASM(Ayven Knight) since Serenes Forest had not gotten any scripts for the Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light contents in Serenes Forest for years. I do think this would be a perfect opprotunity to gather them so that one of us can expand more stuff for updating Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light content in Serenes Forest to help out any localize players can enjoy playing Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. Also to note on it: I am pretty sure some of the early bosses in the NES version hadn't got any quotes unlike in Shadow Dragon and I did noticed some death quotes like in the official trailer for example had it way different from Shadow Dragon.
  10. I always wanted to share my Iron Man experiences with others. Now I finally get the chance to do so in the form of a Screenshot Let's Play. This format got picked over a regular recorded Let's Play due to my generally slow playstyle. No one would want to see chapters taking about an hour each in video format. This will be a hard iron man, meaning that the game is truly over if Marth were to fall. I am looking forward to showing all of my tactical mishaps strategies in motion! This will be my first screenshot Let's Play ever. I would love to get some advice if possible. I will be writing this while playing to better document my plays. Let's begin! Chapter 1 Well then, that was Chapter 1. I'll try to update this daily since screenshot Let's Plays are a little more work than I anticipated. Thank you for reading the first part of my Iron Man.
  11. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is the first game in the Fire Emblem series, developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It was first released on the Famicom (known internationally as the Nintendo Entertainment System) on April 20, 1990. It takes place on the continent of Archanea. Hello everyone. My name is Ricey and I am here to announce my new online reality game, or ORG, that I will be hosting in the next coming months. I am from another forum that plays these games religiously. They are several different games that span different formats and different genres. This is actually going to be my sixth game that I have hosted so far and the first from the Fire Emblem series. I am actually a huge fan of the Fire Emblem franchise, which is why I am here in the first place. I though that the best thing that I could do for this series is put all of my love and passion into a game. There is nothing more exciting than finding a cast who is dedicated and really put their souls into making the performances come to life. On top of that, a great host that puts so much effort into it too can really bring things to life. I thought that there would be nothing better than to ask some hardcore fans of the series to play in this. The community that I host regularly from has a few Fire Emblem fans sprinkled in, but nothing that would really bring a Fire Emblem ORG, especially one that is dedicated to FE1, to life. That's why I thought that it would be great to ask if anyone wanted to join here. If this game goes well, I plan to make a game for every single Fire Emblem game. Possibly barring possibly making the Tellius games into one big game since Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn have the same cast for the most part. I actually have never even played FE1, but I thought that it would be foolish to start a series and not start with the game that started it all. Though, don't get me wrong. I am not going to be doing Gaiden. I am going to go use Shadows of Valentia for my next game. Better graphics to work with. The avatars that I have made for this are rough enough looking. That's for sure. In the simpliest terms, an ORG is an online reality game. What that means is that it is an online game, usually hosted on another site, that is somewhat related to reality shows. The most common reality game that it is based on is Survivor. Which is when two teams face off each other. They have challenges and the team that loses the challenge has to vote someone out of the game. ORGs have evolved a lot in the last decade that I have been playing them. Most games now have formats that host themselves have made up, but they usually do have at least some similarities to the simpler formats like Survivor that I mentioned. These games are completely anonymous. You have no idea who is playing in these. In these games, you will be playing a character. In this game's case, you will be playing as someone from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. In a sense, you are roleplaying as that character. It doesn't really matter if you are in-character or not. I have seen some people completely be out of character. Like imagine Bowser from the Mario series be played like a effeminate paranoid queen. It does not matter how you act. You can even act just like yourself if you wanted. You just have to make sure that you never tell anyone who you are outside of the game. Communication is based through the PM system. In most games, you can talk to everyone on the main forum like this forum right here, but then you can talk privately to people on your team through private messaging. Usually, there are rounds every night from between Sunday and Thursday with Friday and Saturday being days off. There will sometimes be days off on the weekdays, but that is up to the host. Most hosts are forgiving and will do a day off if a lot of the cast begs hard enough. Not all games are Sunday through Thursday though. That's just the most common. Some have rounds that are a few days a part. This game will not be one of those though. 🙂 We are all familiar with Fire Emblem games. We know how they work. There is a war going on. Good verses evil. Then we end up finding out that the evil people have a dragon or is a dragon or made the dragons mad. You know. We always have to defeat a dragon in the end. I don't know why I am mentioning dragons so much. Basically, the main premise of Fire Emblem, at least in the beginning, was about combat. That is why the format of this game is going to be all about defeating your enemies in battle. Gotta make sure that you don't have your HP go down to zero before your enemies. That's for sure. The format of this game is Arena format. I am sure that none of you know what that even is so I will explain it to make it a little bit easier. In the arena format, there will be two teams. These teams will be made at the start of the game by the players themselves. Every round, every single person in the game is going to do a challenge. This challenge will basically be your life or death. Challenges in these games are usually the same mainstays. Mazes, word searches, crossword puzzles, and a few other ones that basically are in every other game that have challenges. The person who finishes the challenge first on each team will be immune from the vote and can not be voted out. Then, each team will vote out a single person from their team. Then, the people that have been voted off each tribe will go against each other in the arena. The player who did the best in the challenge will survive and the person who did the challenge slowest will be eliminated from the game. The person who survived the duel will then be able to pick if they would like to go back to their original tribe or mutiny to the other tribe. This will be the only format in this game. If this game goes well and a lot of people are interested in it, then I would love to add different formats to future games in this series, but I really do want to have people in this format actually try these ORGs. I would hate for people to get overwhelmed because I added too much in this game. I know that even this might be a little too much to new players, but I promise that it won't be that bad! I know that I literally JUST in the last paragraph mentioned that this would be a simple game, but there is going to be one small twist in this game. The twist of this game is going to be the standard money twist that has become somewhat of a staple of the ORG community that I am from. I know that none of you know what that is either so I will explain it a little bit. I haven't explained everything to the other forum either, but I will basically give a small rundown just to make it easier. Anna's shop is going to be opening up in my game. In this shop, you can buy a few items and weapons that can help you along your travels through this game. The things that you could buy are advantages in the challenge that will cut down on your time. Say that a steel sword takes ten seconds off your challenge time. That means that whenever you play that, you will have ten second taken off the challenge that you did for that round. You could also buy a shield. This would block a vote against you whenever you play the vote. That is basically a small rundown. There will be a lot of different items in this game. The whole shop will be shown from the start of the game and won't be shown until then. How do you get the items though? You will have to spend your hard earned money, duh! How do you get money? You get money through a few different ways. This will also be explained more once the game starts, but I will tell you a few of the easier ways. You get money for surviving each round. You get money for each vote cast against you. You get money for surviving the arena. The arena loser will give their money to someone of their choosing. You can also do a few different tasks throughout the day that will be explained as well. Money is important and could change the tides of the game in your favor! Here comes the fun part. This is probably the part that would entice you guys the most? I don't really know, if I am being honest. I don't even know if anyone is going to read this thread or care about this in the slightest. All I can do is post this thread and bump it periodically to hope that people can get involved with it that way. I made all of these avatars myself. Honestly, someone else usually does them for me and they look a LOT better, but... I decided that I would be a big boy and make my own. They look rough, but I am planning on updating them throughout the game. These won't be their final look. This game was made in 1990 and the sources from the game are ROUGH. Honestly, I am going to probably continue through this game and update it. We will start in FE1 and then probably move into F11 so we can have some updated sources, but for now... these are the sources that we have to work with. God... don't we LOVE how ugly Abel used to be? He has such a glow-up in Heroes compared to that bucktooth. Above are the eighteen people that I initially selected to be in this game. This was based on who actually had sources from Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, but some of these like Navarre and Lena are actually from FE3.... so I already failed at keeping all of the sources from the same game. That means that if you would like to play as someone like Jeorge or Ogma that have FE3 sources, but didn't have FE1 sources then let me know and I will gladly add them to the cast. I am very accommodating because I need a cast. There are so many random females like Nyna in the cast because the community that I play in love to play as females so that is why I padded the cast with them. In hopes that some people would join that way. CAEDA AND MERRIC ARE ALREADY TAKEN. To sign up for this game: PM me a few people that you would like to play as. This is just in case that two people sign up as the same person. Got to be fair and all of that. Like I mentioned in the last paragraph, if you would like to play as someone that I did not post then you can. Just let me know and I will see if they have a good enough source to use. The only rule is that they HAVE to be from FE1 or FE3. That means no Mystery of the Emblem only characters. The only reason for that is that they would not mix well with the rest of the game in terms of style. Those dark DS sources against the bright and silly NES ones... iconic. PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO PLAY IN THIS THREAD. Like I mentioned before, if you read the massive wall of text that this already is, this is an ANONYMOUS game. Do not tell anyone that you signed up. Do not say that you are signing up in this thread. I mean, sure. You can talk about this and I would LOVE to explain more about these in the thread if you have questions. You can also ask question in PM too. I know that these are foreign as can be to some people so I would love to break it down as much as I can for people. I am not the best at explaining so if something didn't make sense in this thread, let me know. Right. I forgot about this. Probably important to discuss, right? This game is actually not until a few months from now. We like to talk about things months in advance because it can be a hassle casting these. Plus, honestly, these can take a bit of your time if you want them to so it is good to know exactly when this is going to start just so you have some time to prepare for everything. This game is scheduled to start sometime in early November. I do not have a set date scheduled yet for this. I am probably going to announce that in late September. If I had to guess, this would start probably November 6th? I don't know for sure. It will either be November 6th or November 13th. Just having settled on the exact idea. This game is going to last around two weeks. The rounds are probably going to be around 9-10PM EST time. You can do the arena challenge anytime during the day. The only requirement is that you have to do the challenge before the round begins. If you can't make it to the round, you can always do the challenge whenever you have time and you can vote someone out of the game earlier in the day too. It is not required to be here during the round. Basically all you need to do is the challenge and vote every round. It is as simple as that. The live results each round will probably last about thirty minutes each round. You will have a fifteen minute period to vote, the votes will be revealed, and then the duel results will be posted. It won't take long at all. I think that I explained everything as best as I could? I might have missed something though. PM me here or ask in the thread if you have any questions. I really hope that I get some sort of response for this because I really do think that this could be a lot of fun for people here. Imaging bringing your favorite Fire Emblem character to life. 😮
  12. Shadow Dragon added 7 of them. Combine that with the 5 from New Mystery (not counting the returning Shadow Dragon OC characters, the BS FE characters, etc) and that's 11 of them total in the span of these two remakes. Which is ridiculous since Archanea's cast is already big enough. These new characters don't even flesh any of the others out, they're entirely self contained. The only one close to fleshing anyone out is Norne, and she becomes a Kris cheerleader. Not once does she mention Gordin and Draug in Heroes nor Fe12. Kris is even controversial and makes established scenes worse. Meanwhile Echoes only has 5 of them. And only 2 are playable. None of the OCs are self contained either outside of Rinea, and she's extremely minor in the plot and not playable at all. Faye's apart of the starting group of Ram bois, Berkut is obvious, Fernand is a founder of the deliverance and helps give Clive, Clair and the others more story and conflict, and Conrad gives Halcyon more purpose and fleshed out Celica's past some more. FE4/FE6 remake please don't let us down.
  13. PROJECT DISCORD: https://discord.gg/Z8EwVyp What is this? GFE1R, or Generic FE1 Remake, is a remake of the first Fire Emblem, Shadow Dragon and the Blade of light, aiming to give the game more of a gba feeling. it also features a working tactician system(Screenshots coming later), A halfbody system, skills, and in the future a game modifiers screen which will allow you to modify your game experience(example: making the classes randomized.) Screen Gallery If I want to make a halfbody, how do I make it conform to the format, and how do I submit it? First of all, here is the halfbody hackbox. it is very similar to the normal hackbox, except the yellowgreen-ish part of the hackbox is for the second palette. the body part is allowed to have a second 16 colors(15+bg) palette, for convenience. Here is an example mug. as for how to submit a halfbody, either post it here on the thread when completed, or join the discord and post it there. posting on both is reccomended, though.
  14. Hello! I have some friends who need one more for an FE11 Shadow Dragon draft! this draft will be taking place in this discord! https://discord.gg/VFUMRm The draft will also be utilizing a patch that unlocks all prologues and gaidens. rules! 1. This draft is for 5 players. 2. Marth, Jagen and Nagi/Gotoh are free for all to use. 3. The game will be played on hard 2 Rules: 1. Undrafted units may recruit characters, visit houses, trade, meatshield, and shop. 2. Undrafted units may not do anything not listed above, including but not limited to opening chests/doors. 3. Gaiden chapters and prologue chapters do not count towards the total turncount up to 20 turns taken. 4. You are free to reclass units as you please 5. Marth may not Seize the throne in Chapter 19 before Turn 5. Other: 1. Both the Wi-Fi Shop, and usage of the Warp staff are strictly prohibited. 2. You may not use loaner units. 3. Usage of the Forge is banned / capped at X. Penalties: 1. Undrafted units have a 4 turn penalty, per unit per chapter.
  15. Oh gods. What am I even doing. The rules are as follows. -All rules only start at the start of chapter 6. -Units that are needed to recruit others are free in the chapter they are needed to recruit, -Characters that can promote are banned. -Wolf and Sedgar are banned too. -Fuck it let's make it even harder by banning Ballistea. -Units can be deployed to fodder off for the bonus chapters. (In short let's make a list of units I can actually use. Marth, Jagen, Julian, Wendel, Ricard, Bantu, Jeorge, Minerva, Midia, Boah, Horace, Astram, Arran, Samson, Ymir, Etzel, Lorenz) Other then that I'm going to boss abuse the hell out of this game since their normal exp gain will not be enough. One thing I intend to do is include only a limited amount of pictures and not weave a big story. It's going to hopefully be fairly short. Aaaaanyways. Let's get cracking with chapter 1. Of course it starts by buying a load of javelins and iron swords. I don't think it's important to tell you how to play this. Only the boss is of importance. I could grind him with the javelins over and over but the hitrate sucks and it's expensive. So let's try something else... and equally time consuming. Marth doesn't face crit so he can take a hit safely! And then retreat to the fortress to heal back up, breaking the bosses weapon. After the boss breaks it Jagen can move in with his own iron sword and just chip away for some easy exp. Untill> Oh gods. 400 turns in he's finally far enough. At this point his strength it high enough that he can oneshot the boss with a crit but luckily he barely hit that 11 speed benchmark he needed to beat Hyman later on. Granted with the real challenge only starting on chapter 6 I could've just made it easier on myself. Chapter 2 and 3 are not as interesting. With Jagen's incredibly THICC 14 defence he makes easy work of both these chapters so I can move on to chapter 4 which is important because it has.... An arena! Granted on HM5 arena's are deathtraps. I did two fights with Marth and then Noped out. I'll need to get my money later on instead. The boss is highlighted here because he's an idiot with no 2-range weapons. I didn't farm him though. Just killed him and moved on to chapter 5. It's the second character. And It's a good one too. Wendel is amazing with his high speed. The reason I let the true challenge start at chapter 6 is because of this guy. You also get some other guys but I fodder them off. Including Wolf and Sedgar. Not making this challenge easier by keeping them around. I do abuse some of the fodder for some quick staff rank exp. And then I brace myself for the painful chapter 6. It starts with dumping a lot of money into a forged Javelin. Luckily you get a lot of money in this game. The +7 is needed for Paladin Jagen to ORKO the archers near the start of the chapter. As a side effect it also oneshots the thieves. And yes. I did get all the treasure! There is a sneaky spot you can lure the mage towards and kill off some of your fodder. There is a bonus chapter after this so it's important to kill off some. As an added bonus the mage will be easier to bait later on. And it's another boss with no ranged attacks. Bit of an anti-climax for the first chapter I was worried about. Imma just quickly skip through 6x. The gaiden chapters are piss easy on hm5 and only two things of importance happen. Jagen gets C in axes so he can hammer in chapter 7. Wendel gets C in staves so he can warp in chapter 7. Is that a hint of things to come?
  16. This is a program that will generate a text document with randomized class changes for all of the characters in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon. Fe 11 Randomizer.zip instructions 1. Unzip the file 2. Open the dist folder 3. Run the ShadowDragonRandomizer.exe 4. Your randomized list will be Characters.txt in the same folder Post any feedback in the comments below
  17. I would have originally titled this "advice for dealing with Gharnef the first time he appears without loosing anyone", but then decided that he wasn't the sole reason for why I lost a few units on this map. Now I do think that Chapter 15 of Shadow Dragon is one of the best desert levels in the series, with enough land that even my mounted units can do something and enough sand that the "desert" part isn't just for show. And while I find its implementation questionable, I do appreciate that Imhullu making Gharnef invincible is shown and not just told, which helps adds more weight and importance towards getting Starlight and building up a mage strong enough to take on Gharnef. With that said, dealing with Gharnef himself is something I've struggled to do without loosing anyone. Units with high resistance are rare in this game, and Gharnef is faster than he looks, so it's easy for him to double characters who could otherwise take a hit from his spell. Even when I've successfully cornered him with help from the river section of the map, it's likely that I either lost someone in the process or he kills one of the people I'm using to stall him. Not helping is that there are wyvern riders on the map as well that will fly towards the army, and chances are that they can kill the units with high resistance in one round of combat because mages and healers aren't famed for their defense. Killing the wyvern riders before they reach that moment can also be complicated if they're within the range of Gharnefs spell, creating a classic "between a rock and a hard place" scenario if I want to use someone else to deal with them. I usually have my flyer units on the left side of the map so that the magic using enemies there don't cause any trouble, and they aren't always fast enough to make it to back to the main group in time to deal with the enemy wyvern's, and that's not even bringing up whether they're strong enough to deal with the threat in the first place Again, I do like this chapter otherwise and can beat it no problem, but I would like some tips on how to do so without causalities along the way.
  18. Doing a H5 run of Shadow Dragon. Nothing that some HP management and javelin spam can't solve.
  19. Let's play a game within a game, and write a story within a story. A common complaint I've seen about FE 1/3/11/12 is the lack of development of characters. If that's a problem for you, we're going to fix it. I propose that anyone who is interested in this game/challenge takes up an Iron Man of their chosen Archanea game. From there we take notes of what happens (who kills bosses, who damages/defeats what enemies, what enemies kill your characters/supports that occur if FE12/conversations if FE 11) When finished, we write it into a cohesive story. Or you could do it chapter by chapter. Whatever works. Building characters you're using in the story as it progresses (thoughts, backgrounds etc). Use what we know about them, head cannon, and anything you can come up with that fits canon and your playthrough. I say "we", but given I'm mid-run of New Mystery, I'd have to restart so... really, at this point it's "you" until I've freed myself up again. Good luck, and may your death count not be too high.
  20. A finalized version of the mod is available here: Thanks again to everyone in the thread for their help.
  21. So I'm working on a personal project of mine where I'm recreating this game through FE7. At the moment I'm working on diversifying the cast a bit more through changing classes further extending differences in growth rates, as well as simply removing/combining characters and changing their roles. For example Roshea and Vyland of Hardin's Wolfguard. I can understand wanting 4 units there as 3 is a small number for an "elite guard" but as far as characters go, Vyland basically lacks anything that really represents much of a personality, and he doesn't have anything going for him that shows him as a real character or unit. Meanwhile there is SOME backstory for Roshea as he was in Archanea BS, and as well as having more material on him if you do the research (Though in SD he was equally irrelevant as Vyland.) So I decided to combine the characters into Royland so as to reduce the numbers in the cast as well as trim down Cavalier Emblem. However enough about that project, it's still on the backburner, however it did make me think of an interesting topic of discussion that I'd be interested in the opinions of others. There are probably other characters that overall are redundant to the setting of FE11 even when considering if they had a larger/more significant role in the sequel. So I thought I'd ask others, who in this game either as a unit or for the sake of plot, was a pointless character that the game didn't REALLY need or who's role is shared by another character and could have just been shoved together. Are there characters that should have had a purely support role in the story a la Nyna? I'd love to hear thoughts on this.
  22. This is an update to the Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch, made by Robert of Normandy a.k.a. RobertTheSable. Robert gave permission for the modding community to freely use his patch, and a link to his written permission is included in the documentation. In Robert's own words, this patch is: "Patch for Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon that removes the unit limits to get in to Chapters 6x, 12x, 17x, and 20x. In other words, you can get into those chapters without killing off your own units." Unfortunately, there was a bug with the original patch that made the character of Ymir, if recruited using the patch, have zero movement - effectively making him useless. This updated patch fixes this long-standing bug with Ymir's movement. As part of the fix, Ymir will now actively move during Chapter 20x (instead of being stationary, as he is in the unmodded game), and his dialogue has been slightly altered to reflect this. To be clear, YOU DO NOT NEED THE ORIGINAL GAIDEN REQUIREMENTS REMOVAL PATCH TO USE THIS MOD. This is effectively a replacement for the original patch, and incorporates all of its features already, in addition to fixing the Ymir movement bug. If you're using my Prologue in Hard Modes patch, YOU DO NOT NEED THIS FIX, as it has already been incorporated into that mod. This was made using the US version of FE11, so you should use an .nds file from that region. Please note you'll have to acquire a copy of the FE11 .nds legally; only the patch is included in the download. Installation: 1. If you have not already, download the Delta Patcher utility here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/ 2. Extract DeltaPatcherLite.exe, UpdatedGRRP.xdelta, and your unmodified .nds file of FE11 to the same folder. 3. Open DeltaPatcherLite.exe. 4. Click the "Open" button for the "Original file" box and select the unmodified .nds file of FE11. 5. Click the "Open" button for the "XDelta patch" box and select UpdatedGRRP.xdelta. 6. Click the "Apply Patch" button. Users with older PCs may have to wait a few moments. 7. Your previously unmodified file, which you selected in step 4 as the "Original file", is the patched ROM you should now use. (Optional) To confirm that the patch applied correctly, double-check that the checksum, MD5, and SHA-1 values match up with the ones listed on the below RH.net page. If you don't know what those are, use a utility like this one to see what your patched ROM's values are. If they're different, you probably used an .nds file from the wrong region - you need to use a US ROM. 23. I'm using Nightmare to hack Shadow Dragon; but it doesn't seem as though there's an option to give stuff like the Falchion stat bonuses like what most other games do with their divine weapons. Does anyone know of a way to do this, or...is that feature just not in Shadow Dragon? Thanks for your time, and God bless you.
  24. This patch allows you to play through the prologue of Shadow Dragon on higher difficulties. Enemies will scale up to your difficulty of choice for the prologue's duration. This also allows you to choose the sacrifice and (potentially) obtain Norne on higher difficulties. Changes have been made to Prologue 1 and 2 to help accommodate higher difficulties, such as placing a vulnerary in Marth's inventory, having certain enemies drop vulneraries, and changing the class and equipment of certain enemy units. Script edits have also been made to make the intro cinematic always load the normal difficulty version - the one that ends with, "Thus Marth applied himself to the ways of the pen and sword, until one day..." instead of summarizing the prologue - even when you pick hard modes. Text editing has also been used to make the help text say that you get the prologue on all difficulties, rather than hard modes still saying that no prologue is included. The Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch, made by Robert of Normandy a.k.a. RobertTheSable, has been incorporated into this patch. If you want to use the Gaiden Requirements Removal with this patch, use FE11HardPrologueWithGaiden.xelda. If you want the regular game with no changes other than being able to play through the prologue on higher difficulties, use FE11HardModePrologue.xdelta. USE ONLY ONE VERSION OF THE PATCH, NOT BOTH. This patch also fixes the long-standing Ymir movement bug associated with the Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch. As part of the fix, Ymir will now actively move during Chapter 20x (instead of being stationary, as he is in the unmodded game), and his dialogue has been slightly altered to reflect this. DO NOT USE BOTH .xdelta FILES; CHOOSE ONLY ONE. The difference is explained above. 3. Open DeltaPatcherLite.exe. 4. Click the "Open" button for the "Original file" box and select the unmodified .nds file of FE11. 5. Click the "Open" button for the "XDelta patch" box and select EITHER FE11HardPrologueWithGaiden.xdelta OR FE11HardModePrologue.xdelta. 6. Click the "Apply Patch" button.
