  1. So I was surfing the Romhacking.net forums a few days ago...and apparently, someone named "Cirosan" released this! https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3961/ That's right. Patch that puppy, and you'll always go through the Prologue on all difficulties! And if you want, you can use the version of it that also gets rid of Gaiden requirements. No more having to kill off your characters! You'll wanna be careful though; H5 Prologue is no picnic. The guy had to make some drastic changes to Prologue I and II just to make them possible. Giving Marth a Vulnerary at the start, making certain enemies drop Vulneraries, and even changing the class and equipment of some of those enemies...those are all things he did. And even then, the difficulty was still comparable to Lunatic Reverse on FE12... ... Course, on the other hand, Chapters 1-3 end up being a lot easier; to the point where my Marth was doubling the Chapter 1 pirates . But yeah, anyone else hear of those?
  2. This is an update to the Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch, made by Robert of Normandy a.k.a. RobertTheSable. Robert gave permission for the modding community to freely use his patch, and a link to his written permission is included in the documentation. In Robert's own words, this patch is: "Patch for Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon that removes the unit limits to get in to Chapters 6x, 12x, 17x, and 20x. In other words, you can get into those chapters without killing off your own units." Unfortunately, there was a bug with the original patch that made the character of Ymir, if recruited using the patch, have zero movement - effectively making him useless. This updated patch fixes this long-standing bug with Ymir's movement. As part of the fix, Ymir will now actively move during Chapter 20x (instead of being stationary, as he is in the unmodded game), and his dialogue has been slightly altered to reflect this. To be clear, YOU DO NOT NEED THE ORIGINAL GAIDEN REQUIREMENTS REMOVAL PATCH TO USE THIS MOD. This is effectively a replacement for the original patch, and incorporates all of its features already, in addition to fixing the Ymir movement bug. If you're using my Prologue in Hard Modes patch, YOU DO NOT NEED THIS FIX, as it has already been incorporated into that mod. This was made using the US version of FE11, so you should use an .nds file from that region. Please note you'll have to acquire a copy of the FE11 .nds legally; only the patch is included in the download. Installation: 1. Extract DeltaPatcherLite.exe, UpdatedGRRP.xdelta, and your unmodified .nds file of FE11 to the same folder. 2. Open DeltaPatcherLite.exe. 3. Click the "Open" button for the "Original file" box and select the unmodified .nds file of FE11. 4. Click the "Open" button for the "XDelta patch" box and select UpdatedGRRP.xdelta. 5. Click the "Apply Patch" button. Users with older PCs may have to wait a few moments. 6. Your previously unmodified file, which you selected in step 3 as the "Original file", is the patched ROM you should now use. (Optional) To confirm that the patch applied correctly, double-check that the checksum, MD5, and SHA-1 values match up with the ones listed on the below RH.net page. If you don't know what those are, use a utility like this one to see what your patched ROM's values are. If they're different, you probably used an .nds file from the wrong region - you need to use a US ROM. Download here Download DeltaPatcher from here (you need this to apply the patch to your ROM) Credits and Acknowledgments: - Robert of Normandy a.k.a. 3. FE Gaiden Leon

Since Leon is my favourite character in Echoes I looked up his wiki page, and found very few info about his Gaiden self. So, I know in Echoes he is gay, but I wasn't able to find anything about him being it or not in Gaiden. Somewhere I read that he was close to Valbar in Gaiden as well, but they were more like brothers there (not blood related of course). Do anyone know anything about it? I'm just simply curious.
  4. [FE2] - Text Editing Fire Emblem Gaiden?

There are at least two different parties I know of, J2E and Artemis, that did the translations for Gaiden. Plus, a user called "Gaiden Guy" once attempted a Name Update patch, and even succeeding in fitting longer names such as "Luthier". Unfortunately, he stopped visiting this site before he actually got done with the patch, so, I'm not sure how to contact him. Anyway, does anyone know where I can find the resources needed to hex edit the script? Table files, offsets, and other such things? Thank you very much, and God bless you! EDIT: Alright, I got my question answered a while ago; since then, I've been hard at work trying to do what Gaiden Guy once attempted. So for those who wish to edit the game as well, here you go! https://pastebin.com/c0kvsYjN
  5. So, having just about beaten this game, I am indeed pleased at all the obvious love that went into it. It didn't have a lot of the silly things that dragged Awakening and Fates down, had a lot of neat mechanics changes, made fantastic use of the secondary characters (for example, May, Boey, and Saber remaining relevant all the way to the very end), GREATLY expanded the story and dialogue, had wonderful voice acting...it was a treat. So before I go into the things I miss, I wanted to make it clear that I still consider this to be a good remake. That said...I'm someone who also really liked the NES version, in-spite of all it's flaws. And while this remake was great in it's own way, I felt there were a lot of little things that I missed. I'm only going to cover the atmosphere, this time, as this post ended up being WAY longer than I thought it would be. But, I'll get into other nitpicks in the future. For now, here's just the atmosphere. Number 1: Atmosphere One of the things that always stuck out to me about Gaiden was just how...bleak it was. From the minute you start, to the very end, the tone is generally very somber and tragic. Where the remake feels like you're trying to prevent bad things from happening...the original felt like the bad stuff had already happened. Part of the whole point of this game (and why Celica was so willing to offer herself to Jedah) was because the world was on the brink of dying. The land was dark and ominous, the literal dead were walking the Earth, and the soundtrack was EXTREMELY depressing (with only a handful of "positive" tunes in there). Celica's decision to sacrifice herself to Duma wasn't because she was naive and stupid (as you'll recall, she asks him WHY she should believe what he says). It was her believing that the whole world was dying. If she did nothing, everyone and everything in the world would die (as far as she knew). She wasn't stupid, she was desperate; and Jedah actually did a really good job of playing upon that (seriously, props to the writing team; these characters were really well-written). In any case, the original Gaiden did a WAY better job of selling me on just how desperate things were. The villages were a lot emptier, the color palette was significantly darker... ...The characters weren't nearly as handsome and well-groomed as they are in Echoes... ...and the soundtrack was generally a lot more depressing. There were a lot of new songs composed for this remake; and many of them were a lot cheerier and/or relaxing than the original songs. And even some of the original songs that were used were radically changed and/or used less frequently. For example, compare this... Village Theme (Echoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkAjHxLKTfE A fairly neutral piece of mood music that's just kind of...there. It's not CHEERY or anything, but it's relaxing enough that you feel safe and confident. The grass is green (even in the supposedly "baren" Rigel Empire), the houses are standing, the sky is blue...you're feeling pretty good. The GAIDEN music, on the other hand... Village Theme (Gaiden): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGg97xkg4DQ Yeah. IMMEDIATELY, it sets this somber, outright oppressive atmosphere. It's depressing, and extremely monotonous. However, it's monotonous in a good way. Alm's argument with Mycen, as well as Lukas' speech about how desperate things are, hit a lot harder with this song droning in the background. And that isn't the only time it's used, either. It is used in every village you come across in the original game, save for the Sage's Hamlet and both port towns. Every village you come across is supposed to be in a state of desperation; and the original song reflects that a lot better. That said, Echoes DOES use this song once. Though, sadly... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=io2yXqWVa4g It now sounds a lot more uplifting; as this has been turned into Alm's triumphant "I'm going to rise up and join the army!" theme. Still would've at least worked well for Lukas' recruitment speech, at least...but still missing the sense of despair the original had (to me, at least). The other town theme (the one that played for the aforementioned port towns and Sage's Hamlet) is also the same way. In Gaiden, you feel very...emotional, when you hear it. Encounter (Gaiden): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hj0eM_YkuA Like, the characters themselves are happy...but they're happy in the context of a world of tears. The song is just as much sad as it is happy; being played as the recruitment theme AND the theme that plays when random villagers are talking about how many people Barth and Grieth have slaughtered. Like, the way the song is cheery, but desolate at the same time. The characters are smiling, but they're smiling in the face of unspeakable pain (or so it sounds to me). The Echoes version, on the other hand, is just happy through and through. Encounter (Echoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXF8HFGRvgU And it IS great, don't get me wrong! I love the way it's used in the Remakes, too! I just wish they had maybe...I dunno, constructed two different versions of it. Maybe the above piece could have been the "holy cow, Est has been reunited with her sisters!!" theme, and the other could be the "port town of sad and lonely people" variation. And finally, there's "Celica Map 2/The Sacrifice and the Saint". Once again, this is the case where I like what they did with the remake...but still wish they had found a way to recapture the mood of the original. The Sacrifice and the Saint (Gaiden): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCAfEHiuI6E Now, instead of playing exclusively as Celica's "Chapter 4 Battle Music", this was, instead, the "Victory" theme. The theme that played whenever there was only one enemy left, in ALL Celica battles. In a vacuum, it's obviously not as well composed as the remake. But, it DOES do a better job of supporting that aforementioned "oppressive atmosphere". It's faintly triumphant, but it also sounds desperate at the same time. Like, the characters are winning, but, it's just one step in the long, LONG ordeal that Celica has ahead of her. She's won the fight, but she's still got the entire war ahead of her. But the Remake... The Sacrifice and the Saint (Echoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxI9G3v-n4o Well, it works fantastically as an endgame battle theme. But, once again, it is WAY more triumphant and hopeful than the original. And that's something I find regrettable. Had they kept that same sense of despair throughout the whole game, it would have made Celica's decision to sacrifice herself to Duma make a little more sense. It wouldn't have been smart, necessarily...but I could totally buy her just being really desperate to save her dying world.
  6. Does anyone else not like the voice acting in SoV? Maybe it's just me, but something turned me off about it. Honestly while playing the first time, I didn't like the game as a whole and I couldn't pinpoint why, but after second run with VA off, I really like it. And it's not like there was anything WRONG with the actual voice acting, more with the fact that EVERY SINGLE LINE is read to you and you just have to sit there and listen when you've already read what they're going to say, or just cut them off in the middle of their sentences and get weird sounds of "Alm, let's--I don't kno-- In that ca--Okay." I know this happens in many other games too but I always liked that Fire Emblem avoided it. To contrast, I love the lines that were voiced during dungeon exploration. I wish there had been more to that, maybe because you actually have something to do while they're talking at you. I dunno. Did anyone else feel this way? Am I just weird?
  7. I did this with 14, my least favourite game in the series, so now I'm doing it with my favourite, Gaiden/Echoes (2/15). (8 is also my favourite, I'm tied between the two, it's weird but I do this w/ Pokemon too) The biggest issue with 2/15 are the maps...but not all of them, just swamps. Swamp maps are the biggest problem 2/15 have. They don't have actual strategies, you just have to hope you can heal everyone in time before they get attacked and beaten by the swamp/attacker. It's nothing but a struggle and one that could have been easily avoided too. I get that it's a Famicom title, but like it could have done a lot better. Other than that, I don't have any issues with 2/15 minus Clair and Clive. They are terrible units, Clair can't do damage and Clive is Clive. They did get buffs in 15, which is nice, but so did everyone else and it just doesn't help either of them in the long run. Like why would you use Clive when you have Zeke and Matilda? The Whitewings may be with Celica but man they just outclass in every way. All in all though, 2/15 are still my favourites even with their flaws. The game has something all others don't and it's great.
  8. Reviving Characters

So... I've been playing through Fire Emblem Gaiden for the first time, little did I know that a character named Dyute(Delthea) was recruitable. So, I killed her. My question is? If I use the revival shrines, can I still recruit her. Or did I lose a potential unit? After this frustration I've seen that the same thing can happen with a character named Zeke, so I'm aware of it.
  9. I finished my first playthrough of echoes a while ago, and I'm working on my second file. I wanted to complete all the side quests in this run, but I think I may have messed up the eerie hermit's quest. I know you need to have the gossamer hair in your inventory when you talk to him the second time, but I gave my gossamer hair to Celica. I then proceeded to give the hair to the fisherman who can catch a dagon for you (which is needed for another quest). I'm worried about having a second chance to get the gossamer hair, are there any?
  10. Gaiden opening theme?

I remember they used a remastered version of gaiden's opening theme in the FE direct reveal trailer.. did they not put it in SoV? I went through the sound test multiple times to find it but couldn't. Man, I was looking forward to that. Am I missing anything, is it somewhere I can't seem to find?
  11. Did anyone find the normal mode in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia was easier than the original game? The bosses in the game seems to be like they're easier to dealt with in the remake and I didn't get too much Game Overs in the remake, but I only did had one game over in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia when I had Alm accidentally got killed by Desaix in his fortress in the remake (that was my only game over progress that I have in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia). When I did played the remake since at the start at the release date and I did managed to get up to Act 4 as of right now really easy. I remembered back then when I played the original game, Slayde was too tough in Zofia's Castle, Wolff was a Sniping Hog with more range that he killed Mae, and Grieth was a menace back then. But with thanks to Faye, Position in the Beginning of the Battle, new items, provisions, and the Arts that were added in the remake, I did managed defeated Slayde in the remake with the effort of training, Arts, Provisions, & Support Bonuses and I did dealt Grieth with Kamui and Saber in their Dread Fighter classes with the Arts skills and Forge on the Weapons without getting a game over and had an easier victory. There was alot of units for Alm's and Celica's army gotten killed in my playthrough in the original game that I need to reset it and I did worked hard on getting them alive since Casual Mode didn't exist back then and Alm and Celica did get killed by enemies in some areas since Provisions didn't exist in the original game back then and I needed to find some way to regain health. And the Mila's Turnwheel makes it easier to undo mistakes and go back where you didn't want to that happened in the first place.
  12. No surprise here, but...

...Celica has apparently been leaked onto the Japanese website. https://events.fire-emblem-heroes.com/omikuji#!/result/f79b284ae70afb0f No one seems to be aware of this, am I first?
  13. Steel here, welcome to Fire Emblem Gaiden - Blind Ironman Co-op Let's Play! My second let's play ever. A fun little thing I'm doing with my friends while we await the release of Echoes. The idea is to experience the original NES Gaiden blindly, so we can check out what Fire Emblem was like 25 years ago and appreciate the changes and improvements Echoes adds in the 3DS remake. What makes this Let's Play interesting? Blind - First time. We have no clue what's going on. Never played Gaiden before. So we learn and discover as we go. There will be surprises. There will be mistakes. That's part of the fun, learning things as we go along and sometimes making mistakes and having to deal with them and learn things the hard way. Ironman - No resetting upon death. No reviving characters with shrines. It amps up the stakes. Makes things more difficult. Mistakes will have consequences. Errors will be punished. I like a good challenge, bring it on! Co-op - Comedic co-op commentary! I'm playing with two of my good friends. never a dull moment, never a lull in conversation. Jokes abound. You'll also see different perspectives on the game, I'm a series veteran playing since FE7 released on the GBA, while my friends started the series with Awakening and have only played the 3DS games and Heroes. We started this a weeks ago and am currently on Chapter 3. I only recently returned to this site so I only just got around to posting it here, but there still should be plenty of time to watch before Echoes if you're interested. The goal is to be done at least a week before the North American launch of Echoes. I try to upload new episodes every day. Playlist link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrhvZk3o62Z1kbKbpmJtJB8-txc_Ekjzk Here's the first video: Thanks for watching, have fun!
  14. Hi there Serenes, I'm Mangs and today I present my newest project, a heavily edited, post-production commentary let's play of Gaiden. I hope you guys will enjoy it!
  15. I've been looking for a good english patch for gaiden, but the ones on the website I get my roms from is.... lacking. Only half of it is properly translated, with the other half being a mish-mash of symbols and gibberish. Does anyone know where I can get a good translation? (I have the japanese rom good to go, I'm just pleading to heaven above I can find a decent translation. If I can't, then oh boy am I ready to suffer). (While we're at it, anyone know a good fe1 rom/translation? I haven't looked for that one yet, but if y'all know a good one hit me up.)
  16. This is a challenge I came up with, initially as a joke between me and a friend, but I've decided to make it into a fully-fledged challenge. Here are the rules: 1. Play on any difficulty you desire. Your team must consist of Marth, a unit of your choice (and class of choice, but you can make this character a randomized one), and 13 randomized units with randomized classes (except for Special Classes (ex. Thieves, Manaketes)) 2. Kill off ALL generic units. 3. You must go through EVERY single Gaiden Chapter (but 24x is optional). 4. You may temporarily use units until you get the permanent, randomized ones (ex. Using Wrys before getting, say, Lena). 5. Reclass the randomized units ASAP. Alright, so here's how the randomizing thing will work: Step 1. Get a random decision maker (if on iOS, I suggest RDM). I reccomend http://www.textfixer.com/tools/random-choice.php 2. Put the names of every character in the decision maker excluding Gotoh and Nagi. When putting in Arran and Samson, list them as a single option as Arran/Samson then randomize with them. Roll for 13 units (or 14 if you're not doing a Unit of Choice) 3. You may re-roll characters up to 3 times (not per character, just 3 times period. This way it's less dickish.). 4. Once character randomizing is done, randomize the Classes of all Class Set A characters (Those with access to Paladin, Dracoknight, Sniper, Swordmaster, Sage, and Bishop) then the Class Set B characters (Those with access to Hero, Warrior, Berserker, General, Horseman, and Sorcerer). You may re-roll classes up to 3 times period. 5. Also, choose which Endgame character you want-- Gotoh or Nagi. Note that by choosing Gotoh, you may not visit Chapter 24x. If choosing Nagi, 24x is required. Then I'd suggest putting them on a list. I'll share my team with you that I got. 1. Marth - Lord 2. Abel - Dracoknight 3. Caeda - Sniper 4. Ogma - Berserker 5. Barst - Hero 6. Darros - Horseman 7. Julian - Thief 8. Merric - Sage (Unit of Choice) 9. Caesar - Hero 10. Radd - Paladin 11. Maria - Dracoknight 12. Linde - Bishop 13. Dolph - Warrior 14. Est - Swordmaster 15. Tiki - Manakete 16. Nagi - Manakete Yeah, I got way luckier than I would've expected (sans the Unit of Choice). Also, feel free to tag your Let's Plays involving this challenge with fe11gaidenrandom! Let me know if anything confuses you and I'll try to help.
  17. I was looking at the character growths in Echoes and realized that the villager growths were kind of low. I really want to use Faye and Cliff, but I don't know if it's worth it. I don't mind a challenge, however, I'm not sure how hard the later half of the game is. What are your opinions?
  18. I'm just curious (and expecting to see a lot of FE4 votes...), the NES/SNES games were cool and interesting and had their own old-school charm that makes (most of them) them so easy to go back to (except FE1, that broken, broken mess). EDIT: I accidentally hit enter... Is there any way to edit polls? Help? ...this is embarrasing
  19. Most enjoyable way to play Gaiden?

Vanilla Gaiden: Normal Experience is gained at quite a slow rate, and characters have very low growths. Some characters don't come with any items. Grinding is encouraged. Vanilla Gaiden: Easy Same as Normal, with less grinding and more experience. Very Easy Patch Higher experience gains, higher overall growth rates, every character joins with an item including rare stuff like the Moon Lance. Just looking for what mode to do my 1st PT... And I am leaning towards VE because it severely reduces grinding.
  20. I'm currently looking for a talk show co-host to give me their opinion's on the direct itself, Shadow's of Valentia, The new Fire Emblem game, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Fire Emblem Heroes. I would prefer that if you want to join up as my co-host on this video/talk show, I would greatly prefer it if you had knowledge on the original Gaiden. It would greatly help me out a ton in the video. If your interested, just tell me on this forum and you should hear from me soon.
  21. Gaiden streams/videos?

Is anyone planning to stream or release videos of FE Gaiden before Echoes is released?
  22. I cleared Cellica's route up to this point. The Bigles (the pink eyes) dupe faster than I can kill them. I can hold out indefinitely but how do I kill them before they regen back to 12+? I haven't played Alm's Route in Chapter 4 yet. Is there a mechanic similar to Chapter 3 I missed?
  23. FE2 mage glitch

So I was playing Gaiden and some things happened. On chapter 3 I was playing a skirmish with Alm's party. I was going to attack with Cliff, my mage, and instead of the spell selection menu, some glitchy text appeard and Cliff vanished. Afer some waiting he reappeared, but the same thing happened when I tried to attack once again. I decided not to use him and let my turn be over. But as soon as the enemy phase begun... the AI did nothing and the phase wasn't ending... It softlocked. I decided to try a battle with Celica's party and the same happened to Sonia. It even got worse, at her map sprite got to look like this. So if anyone knows what's happening here I'd be glad to get an answer. Thanks for reading.
  24. Ok, I managed to complete making the name chart as of right now, Avyen Knight (VincentASM) and I that we're planned it for the Gaiden page for getting the people to notice in-case that some of them are don't realized it since April 8th, 2013, but I managed to improved more stuff using the localized names from Heroes website that was confirmed from the Fire Emblem Direct also and we'll might improve more stuff when we'll see more English trailers and footages for Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. But, this chart will might get massively updated when the game comes out. And please note that all the Playable Characters that weren't appeared or mentioned in Awakening and three bosses are in Heroes also. https://serenesforest.net/wiki/index.php/Name_Charts/Gaiden_and_Echoes:_Shadows_of_Valentia Also, just a requestable note: Can someone might please help fill out the rest of the kanjis, romanjis, and the other fan translation patch names that were from je2's (Wolf's updated stuff that he did mentioned about fixing bugs) and Artemis's in the chart coloms. I stopped playing Gaiden through Chapter 4 after defeating Grieth for looking around through the patch differences for helping out the community back then (I was super busy with College stuff and studying for my future goals back then)? Edit from February 3rd: I managed to get a lot of the Classes, Spells, Items, NPCs, Bosses, & Titles and Factions down from looking a lot of pages from the Gaiden section. Might still needs some help with filling out the Romanjis, Kanjis, and mostly the Patch names from je2's and Artemis's version from Gaiden. Edit from February 12th: We got new English screenshots from the UK website, it's confirmed that Saber from the Heroes website is still remains as Saber in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Claws was added in the game (I did checked for clarification that Claws was debuted from the Tellius series), Grave added in the screenshot, Japanese version of the website for Echoes: Shadows of Valentia has Valentia is now called Valentia instead of Barensia in the Japanese version of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia since the original Japanese version from Fire Emblem Museum and The Complete had it as Barensia. By the way, keep an eye out incase if we get more English screenshots, footages, and info from Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, I will or someone who has access to the Wiki content in this site adds it to the name chart and Avyen Knight (VincentASM) will upgrade the non-wiki Name Chart for Gaiden Section and adds an another non-Wiki Name Chart for the Echoes: Shadows of Valentia section of the website. This title is now renamed as Localized Names Discovery Thread and I will ask one of the mods or Avyen Knight (VincentASM) to pin this topic so that we can contribute the site. Edit from March 10th: We got a new trailer and new screenshots from the GameSpot website revealed, it's confirmed that Tobin from the Heroes website is still remains as Tobin in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Terrors (probably the new name giving out for the monsters in Echoes since Awakening had the mosters from that game were called Risen), Zofia Castle, this new possible term called "23rd of Pegastym", new skills that are added in the remake are called "Anti-Fliers", "Bowrange +1", & "Terror", and I don't know about this "Deliverance Hideout" location, it could possibly be Clive's HQ in Chapter 1, but I don't recognize the layout that was in Gaiden. Edit from March 14th: I added the names that were shown in the PAX East Footage from the North American version of Echoes, tI did seen Lukas is still Lukas from the Heroes website, the villager girl's localized name is Faye, and the rest of Celica's team in Chapter 2 were remained the same from the Heroes website as well + added the Provisions, Grieth's Army, Seraphim, Invoke, Miasma, Mountain Graveyard, Leather Shield, Gold Dagger, Silver Purse, Black Magic, White Magic, and Archanist in the Name Chart.
  25. I'll like to take the time to compare the old artwork from the 90s and put it alongside with the newly released artwork. Since the moment of this post's conception (day of the announcement), I'll post all of the artwork released so far and will post the other pieces when they become available (or in a new post if this one dies).
