  1. Update Log This patch is version 1.02 which fixes glitches with Forseti mistakenly being set as a physical weapon and a graphical glitch that occurs when looking at Alva's PRF in chapter 10. --- I am very happy to announce the release of my FE5 Reverse Recruitment hack. For those that don't know, a reverse recruitment hack is one that completely reverses the order in which characters are obtained throughout the game. So in the case of FE5, Galzus is the new lord. See the screenshots for examples. Patches Important Note: The English version of this hack uses the "Unified Thracia" menu translation by ChimeraHardline, and all credit for the translation goes to Chimera. Details on the menu translation can be found here. English RR Patch Japanese RR Patch These are IPS patches, so you will need an IPS patcher such as LunarIPS to apply them. You should apply these to an unheadered, .srm ROM version of Thracia 776. You will know the ROM is unheadered if the filesize is 4096 KB. It probably will not work if applied to the NP Rev A version of Thracia 776. Guide I have created a handy Spreadsheet guide that covers recruitment, special events, and PRF weapons to help you as you are playing through FE5 RR. Known Bugs/Issues Character portraits are not changed during dialogue or story. I will probably work on this once a full English patch is released. Some PRF weapons don't include who they are for in the item description. Some say they are for a unit that they are not actually for (Eg: Hammerne still says it is for Safy). Make sure you check the spreadsheet guide if you need help figuring out who a PRF belongs to. The cutscene after the prep screen in chapter 17A freezes the game. It is skippable, so press start as soon as you finish in the 17A prep screen. The animation where Finn kills the boss of chapter 23 will skip itself. This is to prevent the game from freezing if the animation plays out. Various animations are not correct (Eg: Unpromoted Deen has the female dragon rider animation instead of male) FAQ Do characters have their normal growths? How did you calculate the character base stats? Character growths are kept the same (Eg: Ced still has his insanely good growths from vanilla FE5, but now has room to grow and use them). Base stats were calculated by either leveling or "deleveling" characters to their new level, and adding in or subtracting promotion bonuses as necessary. When leveling or "deleveling" characters, all promotions were assumed to occur at level 10. What about movement stars, leadership stars, and PCC? Characters keep their movement stars and PCC (Eg: Galzus still has 5 movement stars and a PCC of 3). However, leadership stars are based on the character who is being replaced (Eg: Saias does not have 3 leadership stars. However, when Halvan is recruited in chapter 23, he will have 3 leadership stars). The leadership stars were done this way for 1) balance reasons; and 2) because leadership stars can be tricky to change for some characters. What about Weapon Ranks? Weapon ranks are based on the character that is being replaced. (Eg: Vanilla Dagdar had A rank in Axes, E rank in bows. Amalda, who replaces Dagdar, now has an A rank in swords, and an E rank in staves) I used some discretion when replacing mono-weapon characters with multi-weapon characters. Why does Ronan have an E rank in Swords? He is a sniper! This is because he needs to be able to use swords for the cutscene where he teaches Cain Astra in chapter 15, or the cutscene softlocks the game. Overall, I decided the impact of giving him E rank in swords was pretty low considering his join time and how slowly weapon ranks build in this game, you would have to grind the heck out of him to have him actually use any decent swords. How do you get through Manster without a thief? Every character that joins in the Manster arc now joins with 3 door keys in their inventory. This means there are enough door keys to get through and get all the chests in Manster just by recruiting all of the Manster units. Some enemies also carry door keys if you need more. Why doesn't Galzus have insane health like he does in vanilla? Galzus's HP was the one stat I decided to nerf from what it "should be" based on the calculations. Otherwise, he would have 40 HP at base. He is already a really strong Lord, he doesn't need 40 HP. It won't work in my emulator. What should I do? Use SNES9X. The English patch expands the size of the ROM, which some older emulators don't like. How did you make this? This hack was done using Nightmare and hex editing in HxD. Who are the route split characters? A Route Characters: Brighton (Alva must be dead or unrecruited), Machyua, Lifis, Dagdar B Route characters: Ronan, Marty, Eyvel How do supports work? Supports are based on the new characters. So Galzus only supports Mareeta, he doesn't support 10 people or whatever like Leif does. Credits The English patch is the work of ChimeraHardline. Many thanks to ZaneAvernathy, for answering questions I had and also for providing much of the FE5 hacking documentation I used. Thanks to the authors of the FE5 nightmare modules, without which this project would not have been possible. Also thanks to Kirb who helped supply me with some documentation that I needed. 2. Whoa! Been a while. Here to revive a dead thread. A lot of stuff has been edited and revised. I've looked over what I had and made several changes to the project. No more demons I've decided that not only can the plot not have demons and be pretty much the same (actually a bit better), but it also expands the gameplay a lot. As we all remember from SS, chapters with nothing but monster enemies can be a bit plain due to their lack of variety, so I just decided to can them. Dragons are cooler anyways. No third tiers This is mostly due to a lack of consistency, and I might change my mind again later if a lot of new animations get made. But I didn't feel like making special exceptions just for muh third tiers, plus I can use the animations for bosses and the like. Nothing else! The rest of the things I wanted to do are the exact same as before, so expect varied objectives and incentives to move forward in maps. THE STORY: Long ago the continent of Panthia was a peaceful one. This all changed when suddenly, a cataclysmic event known as "The Rift" tore the capital state, Ancia, asunder. Mysterious demonic power leaks from the rift, which is poisoning the Ancian people and their land. Their neighboring state, Derrain, refuses to lend aid in fear of the life-destroying aura. Our twin heroes, Sanders and Ackard, are not nobles, nor mercenaries - they are scholars seeking to uncover the mystery behind The Rift. WANT TO HELP OUT?: Great! I appreciate any help people are willing to offer. In particular I need art assets the most - maps, animations, and portraits. If you're looking to report a bug or offer criticism, please consider joining the discord, or just comment below! THE DISCORD: DOWNLOAD: Latest release: V.0.0.1: Two chapters are fully playable right now! Story integration later. For FE8. Screenshots: xpost from feu:

  4. So what happens is that I'm trying to insert this portrait I made into fe7 as lyn Lyn(mage)1 Templated.bmp from there, FEditor accepts the file like this I know that the mouths and eyes aren't finished, (in terms of animations) but wouldn't I just get a portrait that stays still? I'm planning on finishing things for animations, but I feel as if I'm doing something else wrong here.
  5. Roman/Ancient Greek Rom Hack

So someone challenged me to make a roman soldier in FE style and now that i'm working on it i think it would be cool to create a smallish hack, maybe 10 chapters. with Roman and Greek styled unit. Any Ideas? Here is my current wip if the soldier (I still need to work on shading and colors): Edit - Here is a sheet and animation for the Legionary: And here are some possible kingdom names for the hack:
  6. I'm completely new to ROM hacking. What advice do you have to offer up to a newbie like me?
  7. RH Concept: Fire Emblem: Malady of the East

Heya. I had an idea for a rom hack. I'm no programmer though, it just came to me and I was wondering what people thought of the idea. Base game: No clue. I suppose this concept may work in some and not in others. Concept: Story: A wicked disease is scourging the land, and no one knows how it is contracted. Whole armies have fallen victim to it. One brave expedition group take it upon themselves to find the root cause... Gameplay: Original: Be prepared to lose units. At the start of each map, a random unit from the roster is permanently "berserked", (cannot be cured of it), and will most likely have to be killed to proceed. I say most likely because if a chokepoint and sturdy unit successfully keep them at bay, the unit will be cured at the end of the map. Of course, that unit still has the chance of contracting the disease again, this malady seemingly cannot be defeated by resistant strains. The random element could lead to your best or worst units being killed, which is horrifying in its own way. EDIT 1: Suggested by Topaz Light: (Makes more sense from an engaging gameplay perspective than relying on random luck) Isn't actually random, but appears to be at first due to its method of spreading being unknown to the player until later on. A very perceptive (or lucky-guessing) player should be able to sort of pick up on it early, but probably not completely figure it out all on their own without extensive experimentation. Is sort of a "normal" ailment or thing that can happen to your characters during gameplay instead of something that's just randomly inflicted at the start of each map. Is gradually explained/learned about over the course of the game, in terms of both its story explanation and how it works in gameplay. Make it so that the player and the expedition team each learn to combat it in unison with each other. Is manually-curable, but not in an immediately-obvious way. It should make sense, of course, but it shouldn't just be a plain ol' "use a Restore staff and presto!" dealio. EDIT 2: Suggested by Eclipse: The disease evolves over time - more status affects can surface other than berserk. Units: Initial thoughts I had was either the Expedition Force is the main and only army thematically, or as another option there are two playable armies: The Expedition Force trying to find a cure, while the Main Army is at war with the antagonists, losing men/women by the day and clinging to the hope that the Expedition Force is successful. Anyways, I was just wondering whether the concept can be implemented, as well as what people think of that kind of story. Cheers :)
  8. FE3 in GBA

So I've been mulling it over for a bit, and I think my next project will be a rough port of FE3 to FE8. I'll be basing this on the original Book 2, so there's no avatar present. Names will be to my preference, leaning towards pre-Shadow Dragon fan names and the FE3 translation. Stuff like rescue will still be present, so don't worry about that. And since talk is cheap, have this.
  9. Imgur did its damndest to make pushing this out to you a tedious chore, but I've got another LP for all to see... Fire Emblem: Sword of Heaven and Earth is a Japanese romhack of Blazing Sword/Rekka no Ken. Now, Japanese hacks have developed a bit of a mixed reputation thanks to abominable things like FE7if, as well as technically-neat-but-frankly-bullshit hacks like FE8 Girls and Super Thracia. Sword of Heaven and Earth manages to be a fairly sane hack amidst a crowd of rather ludicrous ones, focusing less on technical innovation or fancy gimmicks and more on generally sound game design. It's not a cakewalk, but (from what I've played anyway) it's not punishingly difficult either. Overall, if you want a hack that emulates the typical GBA style of gameplay more closely than, say, Elibean Nights or Midnight Sun, this isn't a bad way to go. Since the whole thing is in Japanese, I won't be touching upon the plot too much, aside from the appearance of new characters or stuff that affects the gameplay in some way. It's taking place in Elibe, at some time around the events of FE6, though I have no idea if it's before, during or after. We'll see some familiar faces, but most of the cast is new characters, albeit ones who greatly resemble characters from FE6 and FE7. I don't know anyone's growths, sadly, but for most of the earlier characters I can kind of give you an idea of their potential. I've played up to Chapter 13, so this isn't exactly a blind run, but we will hit a point where I don't really know what's coming next. Given my history I won't promise anything, but I'll try to keep this to a one-chapter-a-week schedule if I can manage that. I suppose I may as well get started. The first chapter's a bit sparse, but it gets better from here, honest! Prologue: Bait and crutch
  10. Now that we're finally through my excursion into Android FE clones, let's tread into slightly more familiar territory... FE4 Binary, or just FEBinary, is a Japanese ROMhack of Genealogy of the Holy War, created by a hacker credited as "Habana‚ô¶887.bsRoNI". The story and maps have largely been left alone in favor of major modifications the game's mechanics, adding new weapons and classes, making enemies more diverse and challenging, and generally making the game less wildly unbalanced while expanding the player's options. The changes are fairly under the hood at first, but become more and more pronounced as things wear on. Inheritance has also been changed to make pairings like Dew X Lachesis and Lex X Ira more viable and unique than before, and generally greatly reduces the need for passing down Pursuit to as many children as possible in favor of more interesting skills and weapons. Since the story has largely been left alone, I won't be touching upon the story events beyond how they affect gameplay (the hack's in Japanese anyway, so it's not like there's much to see for most of us). I'm also assuming people reading this have at least a passing familiarity with some of FE4's mechanics, as I'll largely be explaining the changes in terms of how they're different from the base game. I won't be listing growth rates, either, as no one's growths have been changed in the slightest. Also, I'm not playing for ranks or LTC here, so I'm gonna be taking a fairly leisurely pace through things and taking whatever sort of advantages I can get. Sorry if that's not what you're into, I'm just not good enough for that kind of stuff! With all that yammering out of the way, let's start the LP! Prologue Part 1: Mechanically explaining mechanics Nobody told me there was a typo in the first fucking sentence of the first fucking post and I'm ashamed for life.
  11. Fire Emblem: The Blade's Legacy So, about one year ago, after being a FE fan and lurking these forums for a very long time, I decided to try and make a Fire Emblem hack of my own. The hack's release was nothing short of a trainwreck, so I lost interest in hacking for a long time. However, the hack stuck on my mind, and I finally decided to work on it again and make a second patch, which ironed out some bugs, rebalanced some things, slightly changed some text, and added 5 brand-new chapters! Oh, and I also changed the name of the hack, because Fire Emblem: Spreading Flames was a dumb name. This hack has: custom events, story, maps, names, portraits, chapters, battle palletes and two custom animation made by me. ---------- The story follows an ongoing war where the eastern kingdons of the continent of Rozar band together to defend against Uhanda, a invading country from the Uhandan Desert, which is seen by the Rozarians as a country of barbarians. The story is about the struggles of Zofia, a petty kingdon in Eastern Rozar as it tries to survive the conflict despite all odds. ------Screenshots------ -------Download------- LINK TO THE PATCH The patch goes up to Chapter 8 and contains 12 chapters, including the Prologue, a route split, and two gaiden chapters. Patch it to FE7 btw. -------Credits------ Arch, Blazer and Primefusion for their tutorials Agro, Primefusion and others I can't think of right now for kindly answering my questions circleseverywhere for the Enemy Range Display Hacks Brendor for the str/mag animation fix jjl2357 for the Weapon Rank Display Hack eCut and Skitty of Time for the Female Berzerker animation The Blind Archer for the Halberdier 2.0 animation MarkyJoe1990 and Feaw for the Female Shaman animation A Nintenlord for a few of his patches The creators of FEditor, Event Assembler, GBAGE, FE Recolor, Nightmare Modules, FE Map Creator, BSPallete Assembler, NUPS, etc Probably more people I forgot And Blazer and MarkyJoe1990 for inspiring me to make this hack ------------------ I didn't have anyone else to do playtesting, debugging for me, so any feedback and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated, also, don't expect too much from the story, as I'm a terrible writer and didn't really have a vision while making it.
  12. FE6 - FE7 crossover

I decided to make a romhack for FE6 that replaces certain units with ones from FE7. I got my inspiration from FE7 crossover, a romhack of FE8 that replaces several units with FE7 ones. It did poorly in execution, but the concept was cool, and I thought it'd be really cool to have some FE7 units in FE6. I've gone and replaced Ellen with Serra, Chad with Matthew, Zeiss with Nino, Astore with Jaffar, Tate with Florina, and Ogier, Barth, and Wendy with Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn, respectively. I've changed their classes, stats, growths, and affinities to match those of their FE7 counterparts. I've done some other editing too, but nothing too major, with the most major change being upping the level cap to 30 so classes that can't promote don't end up as screwed over. Other than that, I've made a few edits to the base stats and max stats of classes(Thieves caps are now the same as Assassins), edited the stats of a few items(the biggest changes here being making the S rank weapons and Fae's dragonstone unbreakable), buffed a few characters base stats, and buffed everyone's growths. I also made Short Bow and Murgleis 1-2 range, the former so its name can be less misleading and the latter because Wynaut. Also note that since Jaffar, Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn's classes aren't in FE6, Jaffar is a thief with crit+30(to make up for lack of lethality), Eliwood is a Paladin, Ly is a swordmaster that can use bows, and Hector is a general that can use swords. Here's the patch I have so far. Be sure to patch it to an FE6 ROM that's been hardpatched with gringe's translation. EDIT: I have now inserted the portraits. I also edited the names. Go ahead and download the beta EDIT2: Here's a new patch I just made that adds even more characters. Canas replaces his mom, Dart replaces Garret, Geitz replaces Wade, Oswin replaces Douglas, Pent replaces Yoder, Rath replaces Shin, Raven replaces Deke, Rebecca replaces Dorothy, and Sain replaces Lance. Here's another patch I made that adds Sacred Stones characters in addition to FE7 ones. Amelia replaces Bors, Eirikia replaces Noah, Ephraim replaces Treck, Innes replaces Klain, Joshua replaces Rutger, Lute replaces Hugh, L'Arachel replaces Clarine, Marisa replaces Fir, Moulder replaces Saul, Myrrh replaces Fae, Seth replaces Jerrot, Gerik replaces Deke, and Tethys replaces Lalum:
