  1. Shadow Dragon - Full Content Patch This is a merged patch of all my (Cirosan's) previous mods for Shadow Dragon - it combines the Prologue in Hard Mode, Updated Gaiden Requirements Removal, Online Shop Items Integrated into Normal Gameplay, and Always Recruit Norne patches into one. This allows the player to recruit all units, experience all chapters, access all classes, and use the game's full inventory without content being locked behind death requirements, difficulty level, or the now-defunct Online Shop. As an added bonus, this patch also comes with a variant that updates certain unit graphics and battle background graphics to their FE12 versions; comparison screenshots can be found on the download page. In general, the FE12 graphics use a slightly brighter color palette and make the black outline around units less noticeable. Finally, this mod includes a version which includes Arch's Sync Patch. This patch updates growth rates, class stats, and weapons to use their FE12 stats; however, it makes the game considerably easier than intended, as the FE12 statistics for these things were balanced for an entirely different game. Still, the option is provided here for those who would prefer it. Note that the Sync Patch includes the FE12 graphical update. NB: All patches have a glitch on flashcarts - WHICH DOES NOT HAPPEN ON EMULATORS, ONLY FLASHCARTS - that will cause a softlock during the decoy cutscene in Prologue 4. This can be worked around by playing past that section on emulator (such as Desmume) and copying the save file back to the flashcart. The game will function perfectly on flashcarts after this section. The combined patch without any extras is FE11FCP.xdelta. The combined patch with the FE12 graphical updates is FE11FCPWithGraphics.xdelta. The combined patch with Arch's Sync Patch is FE11FCPWithSyncPatch.xdelta. USE ONLY ONE PATCH. This was made using the US version of FE11, so you should use an .nds file from that region. Installation: 1. If you have not already, download the Delta Patcher utility here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/ 2. Obtain an unmodified ROM of FE11. I cannot help you do this. 3. Extract DeltaPatcherLite.exe, your unmodified .nds file of FE11, and EITHER FE11FCP.xdelta OR FE11FCPWithGraphics.xdelta OR FE11FCPWithSyncPatch.xdelta to the same folder. DO NOT USE MORE THAN ONE.xdelta FILE; CHOOSE ONLY ONE. The difference is explained above. 4. Open DeltaPatcherLite.exe. 5. Click the "Open" button for the "Original file" box and select the unmodified .nds file of FE11. 6. Click the "Open" button for the "XDelta patch" box and select EITHER FE11FCP.xdelta OR FE11FCPWithGraphics.xdelta OR FE11FCPWithSyncPatch.xdelta. 7. Click the "Apply Patch" button. 2. Allows the player to always recruit Norne at the end of Prologue 4, regardless of how many units are alive. Alterations have been made to Chapters 1-3 to accomodate having her as an extra unit. For those wondering, a patch that merges all of my Shadow Dragon mods will be coming shortly, and will also feature compatibility with the Sync Patch. I wanted to provide this mod as a stand-alone patch, however, for users that don't want to use all of my mods at once.
  3. This patch integrates exclusive items from the now-defunct Online Shop into normal gameplay. Why does that matter? Well, I'll let the wiki explain it: "Along with most Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection services, the online shops in both Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem permanently closed on May 20th, 2014. For Shadow Dragon, this had the effect of rendering the Elysian Whip (and in turn the Falcoknight class) and three of the Brave weapons as essentially unused content... for new save files created after that date on original cartridges." [Emphasis mine] Now, all those items are back in the game as droppable items (or in some cases, in the starting inventory of certain characters). A list of what went where: Chapter 7 - generic archer has droppable Longbow Chapter 9 - generic pirate has droppable Poleax Chapter 11 - pegasus knight has Elysian Whip Chapter 13 - boss has Master Seal Chapter 14 - boss has Master Seal Chapter 15 - generic dracoknight has Elysian Whip Chapter 18 - Sternlin (the boss) has Brave Lance Chapter 19 - generic hero that starts near Tiki has Brave Sword; Tiki has Elysian Whip (droppable, if you want to kill her to access 24x) Chapter 20 - Lorenz has Brave Bow (not droppable; must recruit him to get it) Chapter 20x - Ymir starts with Brave Axe (not droppable; must recruit him to get it) Chapter 6x - Athena starts with Wo Dao Be warned, these enemies will use these new items against you until you kill them and claim the weapons for your own. However, depending on your difficulty (primarily if you're playing on Normal), two or three of the above enemies will lack the weapon rank required to use the new items, although they will still drop them as normal. On higher difficulties, all bets are off - everybody is skilled enough to use everything in their new arsenal against you. In addition, Falcoknights have been updated to use their FE12 stats; previously, as the class was not in the original FE1, the developers intended it mostly as an easter egg and did not seem to balance it. As a result, the Falcoknight had absolutely no advantages over the Dracoknight. Now, the Falcoknight has higher Speed, Skill, and a higher maximum Speed, but lower Strength than the Dracoknight, in line with their appearance in FE12. There are two versions of the patch: OnlineItemsInGame.XDELTA incorporates the Updated Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch. 4. So I'm working on a personal project of mine where I'm recreating this game through FE7. At the moment I'm working on diversifying the cast a bit more through changing classes further extending differences in growth rates, as well as simply removing/combining characters and changing their roles. For example Roshea and Vyland of Hardin's Wolfguard. I can understand wanting 4 units there as 3 is a small number for an "elite guard" but as far as characters go, Vyland basically lacks anything that really represents much of a personality, and he doesn't have anything going for him that shows him as a real character or unit. Meanwhile there is SOME backstory for Roshea as he was in Archanea BS, and as well as having more material on him if you do the research (Though in SD he was equally irrelevant as Vyland.) So I decided to combine the characters into Royland so as to reduce the numbers in the cast as well as trim down Cavalier Emblem. However enough about that project, it's still on the backburner, however it did make me think of an interesting topic of discussion that I'd be interested in the opinions of others. There are probably other characters that overall are redundant to the setting of FE11 even when considering if they had a larger/more significant role in the sequel. So I thought I'd ask others, who in this game either as a unit or for the sake of plot, was a pointless character that the game didn't REALLY need or who's role is shared by another character and could have just been shoved together. Are there characters that should have had a purely support role in the story a la Nyna? I'd love to hear thoughts on this.
  5. A finalized version of the mod is available here: Thanks again to everyone in the thread for their help.
  6. [FE11] Way to Give Stat Bonuses to Weapons?

I'm using Nightmare to hack Shadow Dragon; but it doesn't seem as though there's an option to give stuff like the Falchion stat bonuses like what most other games do with their divine weapons. Does anyone know of a way to do this, or...is that feature just not in Shadow Dragon? Thanks for your time, and God bless you.
  7. This is an update to the Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch, made by Robert of Normandy a.k.a. RobertTheSable. Robert gave permission for the modding community to freely use his patch, and a link to his written permission is included in the documentation. In Robert's own words, this patch is: "Patch for Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon that removes the unit limits to get in to Chapters 6x, 12x, 17x, and 20x. In other words, you can get into those chapters without killing off your own units." Unfortunately, there was a bug with the original patch that made the character of Ymir, if recruited using the patch, have zero movement - effectively making him useless. This updated patch fixes this long-standing bug with Ymir's movement. As part of the fix, Ymir will now actively move during Chapter 20x (instead of being stationary, as he is in the unmodded game), and his dialogue has been slightly altered to reflect this. To be clear, YOU DO NOT NEED THE ORIGINAL GAIDEN REQUIREMENTS REMOVAL PATCH TO USE THIS MOD. This is effectively a replacement for the original patch, and incorporates all of its features already, in addition to fixing the Ymir movement bug. If you're using my Prologue in Hard Modes patch, YOU DO NOT NEED THIS FIX, as it has already been incorporated into that mod. This was made using the US version of FE11, so you should use an .nds file from that region. Please note you'll have to acquire a copy of the FE11 .nds legally; only the patch is included in the download. Installation: 1. If you have not already, download the Delta Patcher utility here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/ 2. Extract DeltaPatcherLite.exe, UpdatedGRRP.xdelta, and your unmodified .nds file of FE11 to the same folder. 3. Open DeltaPatcherLite.exe. 4. Click the "Open" button for the "Original file" box and select the unmodified .nds file of FE11. 5. Click the "Open" button for the "XDelta patch" box and select UpdatedGRRP.xdelta. 6. Click the "Apply Patch" button. Users with older PCs may have to wait a few moments. 7. Your previously unmodified file, which you selected in step 4 as the "Original file", is the patched ROM you should now use. (Optional) To confirm that the patch applied correctly, double-check that the checksum, MD5, and SHA-1 values match up with the ones listed on the below RH.net page. If you don't know what those are, use a utility like this one to see what your patched ROM's values are. If they're different, you probably used an .nds file from the wrong region - you need to use a US ROM. Download here Download DeltaPatcher from here (you need this to apply the patch to your ROM) Credits and Acknowledgments: - Robert of Normandy a.k.a. 8. This patch allows you to play through the prologue of Shadow Dragon on higher difficulties. Enemies will scale up to your difficulty of choice for the prologue's duration. This also allows you to choose the sacrifice and (potentially) obtain Norne on higher difficulties. Changes have been made to Prologue 1 and 2 to help accommodate higher difficulties, such as placing a vulnerary in Marth's inventory, having certain enemies drop vulneraries, and changing the class and equipment of certain enemy units. Script edits have also been made to make the intro cinematic always load the normal difficulty version - the one that ends with, "Thus Marth applied himself to the ways of the pen and sword, until one day..." instead of summarizing the prologue - even when you pick hard modes. Text editing has also been used to make the help text say that you get the prologue on all difficulties, rather than hard modes still saying that no prologue is included. The Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch, made by Robert of Normandy a.k.a. RobertTheSable, has been incorporated into this patch. If you want to use the Gaiden Requirements Removal with this patch, use FE11HardPrologueWithGaiden.xelda. If you want the regular game with no changes other than being able to play through the prologue on higher difficulties, use FE11HardModePrologue.xdelta. USE ONLY ONE VERSION OF THE PATCH, NOT BOTH. This patch also fixes the long-standing Ymir movement bug associated with the Gaiden Requirements Removal Patch. As part of the fix, Ymir will now actively move during Chapter 20x (instead of being stationary, as he is in the unmodded game), and his dialogue has been slightly altered to reflect this. 9. Let's play a game within a game, and write a story within a story. A common complaint I've seen about FE 1/3/11/12 is the lack of development of characters. If that's a problem for you, we're going to fix it. I propose that anyone who is interested in this game/challenge takes up an Iron Man of their chosen Archanea game. From there we take notes of what happens (who kills bosses, who damages/defeats what enemies, what enemies kill your characters/supports that occur if FE12/conversations if FE 11) When finished, we write it into a cohesive story. Or you could do it chapter by chapter. Whatever works. Building characters you're using in the story as it progresses (thoughts, backgrounds etc). Use what we know about them, head cannon, and anything you can come up with that fits canon and your playthrough. I say "we", but given I'm mid-run of New Mystery, I'd have to restart so... really, at this point it's "you" until I've freed myself up again. Good luck, and may your death count not be too high.
  10. So I've been wanting to play this game again... possibly even LP it to put my own spin on it like I've been doing with Valkyria Chronicles (which actually sorta was a PMU, too, and am... still slowly in the process of doing). Lemme give you the low down. I will be using 14 units besides Marth. I will be using Marth and the fourteen others until endgame, but no one else except when I need to recruit units. The number is, incidentally, based off of the number of units one can take to the final chapter. I am playing a modified version of the game (that I patched myself, mind you) that lets me play the Gaiden chapters without killing troops off like some ritualistic lunatic, so I'll have access to the units gained in those chapters. This also means that I won't get Gotoh, I believe, unless the hack somehow changed that. Because I'm not playing on Normal (I'm playing Savage difficulty, which is somewhere in the middle between Hard and Merciless), I'll be starting only with the traditional team, most of whom I won't even be using I'm not aiming for low turn counts or anything like that, so I'm probably not gonna abuse warp staves to beat the chapters in one turn or whatever. I'm not a meta-gamer. No real limits on forges, but I don't often use the forge anyway because I'm a philistine. I'm not saying that I'll let people pick my weapons or anything; I'm just letting everyone know this. Stat boosters and Anna's shops are fair game. Not like I particularly need all of that stuff too much, but they'll be a failsafe in case one of my allies winds up sucking too much. I will actually use allies in their original classes up until the soonest briefing screen. So for example, I will use Maria as a cleric in the level she joins in, but she will switch to pegasus knight as soon as I get to the next chapter. I'll be using the following units:
  11. Hey, I struck gold the other day, and found a used copy of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. I'm extremely happy that I found this game, and now I finally get to experience the Archanea story line... (Finally! So excited!) I am an semi-average player when it comes to FE games. I can determine what will be effective and different combinations of res, speed, attack, etc, but I am nothing compared to the pros. I know that the mechanics work differently in Shadow Dragon compared to more recent games, (Especially the no Casual mode... which I'm going to struggle with...) but is there any tips or tricks I should know about?
  12. Your favorite games.

My favorites in the Fire Emblem series are. GBA: Elibe Saga. 2 Smash Characters: Telius Saga. 3DS: Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. (Finally playing it, and enjoying it so far.) Spinoff saga: Warriors. Past Titles: Genealogy of the Holy War.
  13. I'm planning on hosting a dance panel at Metrocon (Tampa FL). I have a lot of music already, but some of these songs loop and the actual part that I can use is between 30 seconds and 1 minute. Also I can't use every song that comes my way since music for games isn't always something that can be used for dance. I want to try to use a song from every Fire Emblem, so if anyone knows of songs that I can use that are between 2 and 5 minutes with no looping and not from Blazing Sword, Awakening, Fates, or Echoes (I already have songs from those games I can use) I'd really appreciate the extra ears looking for this.
  14. This is a program that will generate a text document with randomized class changes for all of the characters in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon. Fe 11 Randomizer.zip instructions 1. Unzip the file 2. Open the dist folder 3. Run the ShadowDragonRandomizer.exe 4. Your randomized list will be Characters.txt in the same folder Post any feedback in the comments below
  15. Hello, Fire Emblem Faithful!

Hey all! I'm new on the site, and I wanted to introduce myself. I've been a Nintendo gamer for as long as I could hold a controller. I got started on the NES and enjoy playing my switch today. As a teenager, I was impacted by Phantasy Star Online on the GameCube. I absolutely love that game and spent thousands of hours on it. Many of you might know that Phantasy Star is essentially dead in the west. This made me very sad and created a void in my heart. One day, when I was feeling sorry about myself for the lack of official Phantasy Star releases, I picked up a copy of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for the Nintendo DS. That day was a great one. I found a new franchise to be excited about! Ever since, I've been plowing through the Fire Emblem games whenever I get the chance. They're great! I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and learning a lot as we share our love of FE. Cheers!
  16. So, I'm wondering how to go about defining which battle and map sprites are associated with a given class. I'm trying to add in a female Knight to the Sum Patch to go along with female Generals, going into the "female Dismounted Knight" class slot. I've copied all the information over from the male Knight class (save for Class ID), and even set it to promote into the female General. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea how to go about setting which sprites the class uses, on the map or in battle. It appears to use the female General sprite in battle—at least, that's what shows up in the battle sprite box when the class is highlighted to be reclassed into—but it has no defined map sprite, and the game crashes when you try to back out into the main reclass menu after changing a character into it. Ideally, I would just set it to call the exact same files the male Knight uses for its battle and map sprites, but I don't know how to actually do that, or even if it's possible. I know Arch ported the female Cavalier and General classes back into Shadow Dragon, graphics and all, but I don't know what process he used to get the graphic importation and association working. If anyone knows how to do this, I'd greatly appreciate your wisdom! …As an addendum, does anybody know if Soldiers in Shadow Dragon are flagged as being able to reach level 30, like other single-tier classes? I can't seem to find any conclusive answer to that.
  17. FE11 Stat & Growth Editing

So, I opened up the Nightmare modules for FE11 and poked around in them again, and was swiftly reminded of why I stopped to begin with. The stat values given in the editor don't make any sense and don't seem to correlate with the values listed online in any meaningful way. I was wondering if anybody here had the "key" to converting stat and growth values between regular, comprehensible numbers and whatever bizarre cipher the numbers are hidden behind in the editor. Thanks so much for your time!
  18. I've been trying to insert portraits into Shadow Dragon (well, I suppose, more accurately, alter the ones in the game) and I've been able to mess with the larger portraits the game uses for speech and such. But the smaller portraits used for the menus is stored in a different place (the "sf" folder when decompiled) and stored differently. While the larger portraits don't have a separate palette file, the menu portraits do. At least, I'm pretty sure they do. It's separated into the image file and "p" file, and messing around does indicate that it is the palette file. I assume it's compressed? I have no idea what kind of compression it is, I guess I just have to mess around to find it? Also, does anyone know of a program that can take the information from that palette file and save into a format I can use with usenti?
  19. Athena's hair color

So! I'm planning on starting a "blue is for lords" color run of SD, where I only use characters with blue hair. My question is, would Athena count? Her hair is kind of a muted blue, but I had always written it off as black. I'm also not sure if I want to allow re-classing or not; mostly concerned with having someone (most likely Caeda) be a mage to deal with Gharnef. Difficulty would be H1 or 2, I'm not decided on that yet. Maybe 3.
  20. Awakening did a poor job of keeping the continuity set up by Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, having retconned quite a bit of the lore. Examples: Medeus' revival, Lucina's ability to use the Falchion, geography, degenerating, and so forth I want to here others' takes on it, but I'll probably still debate (not in a mean way) that there is just about no continuity.
  21. Hello all~ Technically not "new" but it came out 4 years after Shadow Dragon's release :P Recently while looking up stuff about the artist for Shadow Dragon, Masamune Shirow, I found an artbook he released 5 years ago that featured some artwork he did for Shadow Dragon. I know the game's known for only having like 8 or so characters getting full artwork, but there are lots of interesting old designs, sketches, etc. NOTE: I do not own this book, these are either preview images or screenshots from a flip through video The full video can be found here. I'm pretty sure the book is still available at Dark horse (and in English!) There's a lot of text in with the images so it'd be interesting to learn more about it. Anyways, just thought it'd be interesting to share!
  22. Hi guys, with Serenes' very detailed trailer analysis and my own thoughts from slowing down and peeking through the official Nintendo Direct trailer, I put together a video discussing Fire Emblem Echoes - Shadows of Valentia. To go even further in depth, I also delve a little into discussing Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (the last remake we got here in the west) in order to prepare potential buyers and the "Waifu Emblem" crowd in case this game ends up being similarly remade like that one (and doesn't include the Avatar, Marriage, or Dating aspects). I'd love to know your thoughts and feedback, and hopefully this is a clear and concise way of summing up what we know from the trailer as well.
  23. Remakes

So I have a question how good is the remake of fe1 (shadow dragon) l heard it was terrible; how faithful are any and all remakes in the franchisw for that matter?

  25. Should I do it? I'll be playing on Normal, because I'm a horrible FE player. This should be fun.
