  1. I'm planning to start a Golden Deer run on Maddening now that I've finished Crimson Flower and and Azure Moon (on Hard). I'm trying to plan out classes and skill sets for my units but I keep running into issues. I'd love to get some advice about my units and definitely feel free to contribute any tips for Maddening in general as well. My planned roster is: F!Byleth Claude Hilda Marianne Lysithea Leonie Ignatz Felix Petra Sylvain Mercedes Linhardt I'm really excited about these units, but there are a few that are giving me issues as far as planning goes Least Problematic: Marianne - Dancer I used her as a Bishop and a Dark Knight on the previous routes so I thought I might try out Dancer Marianne since I've seen so many people recommend it. Linhardt - Bishop Healer. Holy Knight doesn't seem to offer much and when I used Marianne as a Dark Knight I was a bit underwhelmed by her ability to actually heal. Warp x 2 is also nice Mercedes - Gremory She's another healer. I think some people recommend Bishop over Gremory bc of the extra healing, but Mercedes doesn't really have all that many issues healing to full as a Gremory in my experience. The one extra movement is also nice I suppose. I'm definitely open to hearing a dissenting opinion on this though Lysithea - Gremory Standard Lysithea. I've seen some people use Dark Knight over Gremory for the -faire skill but that seems like a lot of effort for a unit that's going to one shot most everything anyways. Without the extra weapon ranks of Dark Knight I should be able to invest more into authority for a good magic-boosting gambit and more into reason to maybe get the range+1 and -faire skills Felix - War Master I used him as a Wyvern Lord last run and he was incredible. I've heard he's perhaps the best War Master in the game Claude - Barbarossa Excited to marry Claude. He's hot. For skills I was thinking Death Blow, Bow Prowess, Alert Stance, Close Counter, and then eventually the S+ Bowfaire. Only issue with Claude is that he's definitely going to want either the Rafail Gem or the Aurora Shield and he might have some competition... Could Use Some Advice: Ignatz - Sniper/Bow Knight Ignatz's ideal build would probably look something like: Death Blow, Bow Prowess, Bowfaire, Bow Crit+10, Mov +1. The issue is getting to those A+/S/S+ ranks. I'm wondering if I don't bother with his lance and riding skills for bow knight and just keep him focused on bows the whole way through (after the detour to get Death Blow) to rush him towards those better bow skills (and towards top tier battalions as well). Hunter's Volley seems extremely OP, so there's definitely an argument for keeping him a sniper the whole way through. Biggest downside is losing Mov+1, though I could maybe keep one of his rallies on him? I don't know how valuable one rally skill will be late game. I should also note that my plan is to run Ignatz with Raphael as a guard adjutant for the extra might. Bonus is that this should keep Raphael decently leveled through Ch. 13 as well. Leonie - Sniper/Bow Knight This is roughly the same dilemma that I have with Ignatz. I'm more tempted to eventually make her a Bow Knight and snag the Mov+1 even if I eventually turn her back into a Sniper for Hunter's volley. She has all the proficiencies of a Bow Knight. I could use some advice on her skill build overall. I'll definitely pick up Death Blow. I don't know if I should send her through archer to get Hit+20 or Pegasus to get Darting Blow. Getting all three seems like it would take way too long and might not be necessary. Sylvain - Wyvern Lord/Paladin Sylvain definitely wants to use Swift Strikes. I used him as a Wyvern Lord last Hard playthrough and he was great most of the way through but a bit underwhelming towards the very end of the game. He had trouble one-rounding some enemies and some hit rate issues too. A lot of people recommend against Paladin due to the speed penalty, though with all the enemies on Maddening gaining craptons of speed, I'm not sure it's worth the effort to try to keep up only to lose. Paladin has less strength but the right -faire skill. Since Sylvain wouldn't be flying/need that high of Axe rank, I could invest more into authority for a better battalion (this would also benefit other fliers since they are competing for fewer battalions). Also, I could give Sylvain a guard adjutant as a Paladin (preferably Ingrid for the extra might) which is always nice. But giving up flying is a big sacrifice... I also wouldn't know what skill build I'd be aiming for for Paladin Sylvain (Death Blow, Lance Prowess, Lancefaire, Aegis, Mov+1)? The Real Problem Children: Hilda - Wyvern Lord/Falcon Knight I used Hilda last route as a Wyvern and she was great! But she was also no Petra. Towards the end of the game she had a lot of hit rate issues. Originally, when I was planning the team I was going to run both Hilda and Petra as Wyvern Lords, though I soon realized that that I'd probably end up running the same build on each (Death Blow, Darting Blow, Axe Prowess, Alert Stance+, eventually Axefaire). I'm not sure that it's worth running Hilda as a Wyvern just to be a worse Petra. This would be exacerbated by recruiting Petra somewhat late so that her bases would be significantly boosted. Hilda could fill in the role of Falcon Knight on my team, which would see her using lances instead of axes. This could boost her hit rates a bit, and give her a bit more of a niche, with the one major downside being I'd be running Lance Prowess in a Lancefaire class e.g. Freikugel would take a significant nerf. She also seems like a more likely candidate than Petra to be a Falcon Knight since Hilda has a better resistance stat and would actually be able to do the mage killing that a Falcon Knight is expected to do. Byleth - I don't even know anymore My two previous runs I ran Byleth as a Wyvern and he was excellent. I've switched it up this time and went with female Byleth, and was curious about Falcon Knight. Ideally I'd like to have at least one Falcon Knight on the team since they are great at killing mages and a lot of later maps have siege tomes and such. My major issue with Byleth is also an issue with my team composition. I don't have a sword user on the team at all (besides Marianne, who really should be dancing every turn and whose Levin Sword/Blutgang isn't going to help out on the anti-magic armor monsters). Byleth seems like one of the most natural choices given her sword affinity, She also gets Windsweep which I anticipate would be quite excellent on Maddening since the enemies hit so hard. My original plan was to try to get Byleth as a Falcon Knight who used swords - this sounds really great, move in, windsweep, canto out - but in order to do that she'd need at least: D+ axe for Brigand to get Death Blow, B+ Lances to get Falcon Knight, A+ Flying for Alert Stance+, ideally S+ swords to get swordfaire to make up for not having Swordfaire as a Falcon (basically same issue if I tried sword user wyvern too)... And that's not even factoring in authority. Also that route would make it a lot harder to recruit Caspar for his paralogue, which means losing the Rafail Gem which wouldn't be ideal with so many fliiers. I also feel like going from Wyvern Byleth to the lower strength Falcon Knight Byleth with no -faire using lower might weapons on a mode where enemies are tankier... That's just setting yourself up to be disappointed. I could just make her a Falcon Knight and use lances, but that doesn't solve the sword issue. I could make her a Wyvern once more, which would be great but wouldn't solve the sword issue. My first time through the game on CF I had no sword units and regretted the choice due to sword-weak monsters and there just being a plethora of really excellent swords. Losing out on flying Byleth would be a bummer and would feel like I'm not using her to her fullest extent. Depending on what happens with Sylvain it would also bring the total number of fliers down to 3 or 4. I've heard that on Maddening flying is a little less important since maps are slower and incentivize turtling more, but 3 fliers would be much more restricting than 5. Losing flier Byleth would also make it harder for units to make use of the 1.2x boost in exp from Byleth's ability since Byleth can't canto next to them. I could run Byleth in a sword class, but I've never actually ran any of the sword classes (last run I just had Dimitri as a Great Lord use swords). Enlightened One seems very underwhelming. Mortal Savant seems like a meme. Swordmaster has pretty good abilities and growths but it's locked to 5 mov which is gross. Assassin certainly seems like the best choice out of these. No strength growth is a bummer, though Byleth has great base strength and the growth won't matter too much in the long run... I definitely need another opinion about the sword classes Petra - Wyvern Lord/Falcon Knight/Assassin/Swordmaster Wyvern Lord Petra is really quite incredible. So much so to the point where I feel as though using any other class with Petra would be misusing her. There is a possibility for Byleth to go Wyvern and Petra to become my sword unit. I've heard good things about assassin Petra for example, but I'm worried about her getting strength screwed. I could have her as a sword-using Falcon Knight but the lack of a faire might really hurt her damage output. And for assassin, losing the strength growth would hurt rough 3 or 4 points by endgame, which isn't huge but isn't nothing. Ideally she'd be a wyvern still, but that would mean Byleth would need to be the sword unit. This was a ton of text and I really appreciate if you've read through it. I'd definitely appreciate any advice on these units or on Golden Deer or Maddening in general. I'm also trying to figure out when exactly to recruit most of these. I'm probably going to stick with OG Golden Deer for the first few chapters until recruiting Sylvain (beginning of chapter 5?) for his relic. Felix and Petra want to be later due to the way their bases will be inflated. Petra should maybe be earlier since I want her to get both Death Blow and Darting Blow... Linhardt and Mercedes probably don't matter as much. Please give me critiques and let me know what you think. Thanks!
  2. Good Morning I am new to this forum and I am trying to learn to use Photoshop. I have designed a weapon system for fire emblem I hope you like it and I wish to get some feed back on what people think about it and how it will affect class composition and game play etc Weapons Swords will cover all variants on traditional blades: Rapiers, Broad Swords, Sweihandlers and also oriental blades such as katakana and masamune etc Axes are covering blunt weapons such as clubs, scythes and magi-stars. Lances cover piked weapons such a tridents and poles etc Magic Arcane is the new replacement for "dark" magic. I found the term quite archaic so I replaced it with the study of the arcane mostly dealing with space and time. practitioners can use spells such as warp, re-warp, teleport and worm. They will also be able to build nexus's, powerful areas on empty times that serve a variety of functions, for example similar to the light rune from FE-7 and the effects of the barrier staff. These concepts are still a work in progress. Tomes represent the contemporary studies of magic and are concerned with the manipulation of energy in it's terrestrial forms, Fire, Wind, Ice and Thunder. These will all be lumped into a Anima and fall under the Weapon Type of tomes. Not all mages will wield every type, for balancing issues. I am still playing with this concept. Users of Scepters specialize in light magic which can be used to vanquish otherworldly creatures, bestow powerful buffs and deal damaged with excellent accuracy. Projectiles All projectiles have a max range of two from the get-go, some classes many have attributes that modify this to their specialization. Kunai still work as de-buffers but will also receive a new feature, the "set trap" command which can be used on various surfaces to incapacitate, debilitate or eliminate foes. Guns are a new weapon that will be in early stage of development in the story line. Not many classes will wield this weapon as it will be specifically implemented as a siege weapon; Cannons. The application of airships is also something to consider. Considering allowing it's range to be in cardinal directions, only impeded by trees, walls, etc. Bows will have more variety between those that have a 1-2 and a 1-3 range which I hope will redeem archers. Otherwise no changes. Magic Effects Primal: All characters will have access to this in some form or the other whether it be a mount or a beast stone to transform into a creature, dragon, taguel etc. There will not be many major stat boost when it comes to mounts as i feel the extra move and weaknesses will be enough of a trade off. This will require more discussion. Mounts I have in mind are: Alicorns, Griffins, Dire Wolfs, Horse (of-course) and Rolling Calfs(Dark knight Only). Staves have been nerfed and buffed, many of the effects they used to have, have been handed off to wands, however they will retain their healing and status relieving function (heal, physic, fortify, etc) and as a design choice will be mostly composed of wood and other living-esque materials to differentiate them from scepters. Range of most spells are not 1-2 except Recover. Staff users will have some attacks, mostly endgame and boss only magic, based on the earth and water to manipulate terrain. Still researching this. Wands, impose your will upon the flesh using blood magic. Use of wands drain the users health upon casting. Users will have access to spells such as: Warg(Control an enemy, cannot move during this), death(causes instant death, low accuracy, bosses immune), sacrifice(heal an ally using your hp (conversion from hp lost to hp gained will be 1/2 higher.) etc. Please leave comments and feedback, thank you. *This is my first time using Photoshop pls excuse the choppy work.
  3. Since the villager class is most likely returning in fire emblem switch (and the rest of the future titles), what weapon do you think they should use going forward in the series? Swords and Lances are both weapons that the villagers have used, but what about axes? I want to see what you think about this. I think that lances fit them the best, but that's just me.
  4. To explain this: Caeda has uses Lances as her main weapon for decades, virtually all her official artwork depicts her with a Lance, she has the Wing Spear, a unique spear only she can use, and in all but one game she is not able to use Swords at base. Even in the one game where she could use swords at base, her map sprites depicted her with a Lance. So with all these things why does Fire Embelm heroes, against all logic, make Caeda use Swords? Its not as if the game is lacking sword users, there are tons of them! To a lesser extent this applies to Draug too who hasn't had the ability to use Swords since the NES original.
  5. I'm new to making posts on this website s please bear with me. I have spent hours trying to din out where the swords "Lucina's Replica-Sword", "Marth Replica-Sword", and "Ike Replica-Sword". I've seen them on wikis with no location included, and the only thing i could find is another person asking the same question on gamefaqs without an answer. With all this, I'm led to believe that maybe its not out yet, or that its very common and easy to find and im just overlooking a crucial detail. But, on multiple accounts, when visiting castles and initiating castle battles, their units have had all three of these swords (cant find them again, but if i do, ill post pics if needed) i know this is a long thing, sorry, just kinda in desparation. tl;dr : i dont know where the lucina, marth, and ike replica-sword in game items are, need to know where or if theyre out yet. Thanks in advance!!~
  6. Hey, Fateborn here again. I'm going to do a Female!sword only run. If you are familiar with my FE8 run, then the rules will be the same, with few expectations that I have placed in poll to allow you to decide for me (I would do it myself but I like to see what you guys want to see me do.) First rule. Only women are allowed. (Unless Bartre is permitted permanently I won't use him.) And they are required to have either sword, or has promotion gain of swords. In other word... Lyndis, Florina, Fiora, Isadora, Vaida, Farina, and Karla are permitted. However, as an expectation due to low amount of units, Ninian/Nils are also permited. (If only I had a mamakute too...) If such a need arise, I won't hesitate to use a healing class or an additional female unit. But until then, I won't be required to use them. (Yeah, you heard me right. I'm WILLING to use Louise or Priscilla (Two most likely canditate of emergency if something's fucky with my run such as terribad growth on my characters since it usually happen... Fucking Tate, Vanessa and Syrene.) I also have to sell all items that are not swords and consumables (Which means, no axe, no lances, no bows, no staves, no tomes. I will however keeps few lances -for florina and fiora of course, and a couple of bow/staves for louise and priscilla in case of emergency.) As I will be unable to have any female sword users for 5 chapters of HHM, I am allowed to use Eliwood and Hector with no hestitation until I re-acquires Lyndis, to which I will then bench Failwood. (He always suck on my team no matter what happen. It'd be Lyndis who's most blessed, and Hector will be above average, that's always common for me...) I also will level up Priscilla with usages until the unnecessary of her approaches. If something is really messy between chapter 12 and 15, I will be permitted to use Marcus, but only with swords. I'll keep the poll running for 24 hours, or until sufficient votes are input. Till then, I bid you good read and entertainment of my mostly gangsta outburst and dumb references here and there of my run. (Mostly thwomp.) Now then I gotta go study a certain pattern of the chapters and see what I could do for each one (the ones between 11 and 15 anyway.) Edit: Main reason why I'd like to do LHM is so I can drag my balls through chapter 19xx :>
  7. After clearing FE6 with the similar run, I figured I'd tackle either FE7 or FE8 with the same challenge, and I was told to do FE8... After reviewing the roster, I must say it's whole lot tougher than FE6 run for a certainty. Being forced to only have SIX SEVEN units to use, of which one is the last unit to be recruited in the entire game. However, just like my FE6 run, I will also use the dancer and the mamakute. Tethys and Myrrah. The Units I am restricted to for the run... Eirika, Vanessa, Neimi, Tana, Marissa, and Syrene. And Amelia apparently. Tethys and Myrrah I am not allowed to use any other weapons, with expectation of the classes that only get swords on promotion, to which I will freely use their default weapons until they promote. (Vanessa, Neimi, and Tana. Amelia.) With no further explanation, let's begin! [spoiler=Prologue] Silent and Serene adventure begins. On second thought... not that quiet and gentle. Getting the Romance of the Five Kingdoms vibe Random nation is random. I like the wordings. Suicide time? Suicide time! But Daddy, this bracelet is so 15 years ago! Worst King Ever Surprise! Batt sekt! Must...? What? Roll in the mud and sneak through the forest in the camouflages of brownness? CreepValter is Creep Creepiest Character Japan NO! I SHALLN'T LOSE MAH VIRGINITY TO THIS PEDO Best Knight NA? But it's certainly a bother to see you gushing out like a fountain onto your beloved horse. Well, you won't die because it's FEMALE!SWORD ONLY RUN! Eiraka sucks, petitioning for Seth to be turned into a woman please. GIMME EVERYTHING YOU GOT SETHY Dead fighter is dead. Dead princess is dead. Twond try! One step behind the other fighter. SAFE ENOUGH RIGHT? Poke She's good looking at least. She already died though... Not too rash. With a flick of her wrist, that's how. WTB str. Quite so.
  8. It's gimmick run #9001 of FE7. How did this come to existence? Well, I like sword users, you know, Mercenaries, Thieves, and my personal favorite, Myrmidons. FE7 has a good amount of Sword Users. Therefore, I should do a run of FE7 where I use sword people. Don't question how I made that leap of logic, it makes sense. So here are the rules: Only Lyndips, Eliwood, Hector, Matthew, Guy, Raven, Legault, one of Karel or Harken, and Jaffar can fight enemies. All other characters can only engage in unarmed combat, unless it is necessary. One of Serra or Priscilla or Renault can heal my units, but they cannot class-change. If, upon promoting, someone receives an alternate weapon, they may use it to ensure that my team doesn't get murdered by Sword Slayers and Sword Reavers. Ninian and Nils can use their power to give one of my units extra turns, but they (obviously) can't attack. I will do my best to get to the extra chapters, but I won't make any promises. Try not to die. Ok, with that HERE I GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. [spoiler=Prologue] This seems familiar. Oh right. Anyway. I don't have much to say about the opening scene, let's go. And so our story begins. Activating Combat Mode. Lyn.... This is going to become a regular thing, isn't it? Whatever, he dies, Lyn wins and heals herself. So it's on to the boss. Taste my blade. Conflict Resolved. Good enough, no? I know. No. FE7, FE8, FE9, FE11, plus bits and pieces of FE3, FE4, FE5, FE6, and FFTA. I think that's more than "Some Experience." Sure, that's not alot compared to other people here, but... I'm not. Wow, wait what. I'm too young for that kind of stu- Oh, right, I knew she was going to say that. Still, I'm too young for war. I'm no Snake or Raiden. No I won't, now leave me alone you stalker. I didn't say that. Damn it silent protagonist syndrome!!!! You're not a warrior. You're clearly a lord. I can, I'm not sure about you. Either way, as I was going for Bulgar, Lyndips followed me over there and wouldn't leave me alone until i let her join. Goddaaaaaaaaaa.... And here's chapter Un. [spoiler=Chapter One] Who are you calling apprentice. No. How about I favor your face with my fist. Sain's a masochist? I never have anything to say. For once I agree with the crazy stalker. No they aren't. Don't worry, I won't let yo give up. No you won't. "Out of my way!" "Forget it!" You can and you will. Ok, I command you to stand in the corner without weapons. I just realized that Kent doesn't have a "Turn to Screen" portrait. Gotcha Bitch. I didn't cap it, but I think you know what happened. This works, although... Ok, seriously. Enemy dies. Take on boss. Of course it's the boss that misses. I like the look of this. Unless Lyn misses and the boss get's a 0% crit, I think she's going to win. Called it. There was. It's not my fault that you suck. You've gotten everything BUT defense up to now. I bet that next level up she's going to get a stat up in Con. >_> You know if you said that like 5 chapters in I'd be ok with you saying that, but it isn't so... Hell no. Your companionship doesn't ease my sanity. You know I hate silent protagonist syndrome... You're only going to get one. Hint: It's not my friendship. Alright 2 chapters. I'll see you all in three months when I update again.
