  1. Ok, yeah, hi, I don't post a lot, but reading that reddit AMA from thanibomb got me thinking about the story(I'm not gonna assume the AMA is necessarily wrong nor correct, and only the part about the crests is based on the leak, so I'll put a giant warning above that so you don't read it and spoil yourself unless you want to). So, beware, spoilers ahead if I turn out to be correct, I suppose? And maybe I'm not the first one to think of this or put this together and if so I apologize but really, most of this is just what I deduced myself or what I think is happening. Long ago, the crests were created by Byleth's crooked sword, the Sword of Creation(which thanibomb called it in the AMA, could be named something else, not that important), if you look at the first trailer, where the picture of the Divine Seiros and the person holding the Sword surrounded by the crests, it's probably depicting the legend of how the crests were made. Divine Seiros is the lady with flowers in her hair with blonde-green hair. She's fighting Byleth's ancestor. This is just speculation, but highly probable even regardless of the AMA. So, what exactly does the mural depict? Seiros ascending. To create the crests, she used some type of strong magic, in coalescence with the power of the sword, however, this also caused her to turn into a Dragon/Berserked Manakete. Edelgard, in the trailer however, refers to the crests as tokens of the Goddess's power(or the narrator lady in the beginning at least). This could either be due to Seiros gaining the power of the Goddess and therefore turning herself INTO the goddess, OR what I think is more likely, she was the one who created them(the crests), became a dragon(due to the whole manakete power-thing we all know happens when dragons go a bit wonky), and therefore was sealed inside a crest as well. Byleth's crest. Who's sealed inside Byleth and only Byleth can communicate with? None other than...Sothis. Sothis is Seiros, her mind reverted to when she was a child to keep her from going insane/turning into a Divine Dragon. We know that Edelgard carries the Crest of Seiros, which is less of a crest of sealing Seiros, but moreso Seiros's own power passed down as a crest, her bloodline, so to speak, as all the crests are known to pass down through bloodline/houses. So, what I think is going to happen, is that we're going to end up releasing Sothis, through the use of Edelgard's and Byleth's crest, no matter the route. Whether this is through a beserked-monster Edelgard or alive Edelgard doesn't really matter, but it will be done. The scene where Sothis(or, the awakened Sothis, Seiros) clutches Byleth's sword in the first trailer, is actually post revival, and she's longed for it. Maybe it was her way to ascend to the Goddess, but it never actually happened and it was covered up(she just turned into a dragon instead, as depicted on the mural). Because she was beloved by the land, no one dared say she didn't turn to rule the heavens. So what ARE the crests? Edelgard says they're to blame, as we know. They're simply magic that's genetic, like the Divine Crusaders in FE4, however there are only ten crusaders, but 21 crests. Personally, I think there might be ten other legendary figures that are also of importance, maybe to Seiros herself, but less so to the battle they faced when they were bringing order to the continent. Perhaps, ten of the crests were instead created when they were bringing down Seiros into Sothis, ten new legendary heroes who rose to defeat her in her crazy dragon-form, perhaps they killed the former ten crest bearers, or had to create crests to combat the ten who protected Seiros. Of course, it didn't matter if the ten original heroes died, it would just get passed down their bloodline(thanks blood witch Seiros), and so, someone of Byleth's bloodline had used the sword to do this(Byleth's ancestor wasn't connected by blood to the man we see wielding the sword against Seiros, but s/he did use the same sword to create the Byleth dynasty). Or perhaps the crests are less literally bloodline magic and maybe are like physical objects or imprints, but I think they're kind of like the mark in Awakening, the Brand that Lucina bears. This is all my personal speculation, somebody might have thought similar, I don't know, I was just thinking of this and had to get it out, sorry if this was posted somewhere wrong or something but it's what I believe. I mostly just used the first trailer as a basis for this though, and it's something I HAVE been thinking of for a long time. here BE spoilers(from the leak) below. (Well not specifically but the leak does state... a certain thing) Remember the trailer? this, and this link(for the post below) All this in combination with eachother is pretty damning for what the leak stated about the thing. Which makes me believe it,in part at least.
