The point sstem is fine though i don't think user groups should be thrown away. maybe the staff can give it to members they feel deserve a rise in their user group.

Do the user groups have any use, except they just show which people have posted more? If we're going to remove post count, then it's purely logical to also remove user groups, as they serve essentially the same purpose as post count.

well if we go for the point system and the way i'm saying, it might as it shows that the member is contributing member of the forest.

No postcount, no reputation system, absolute and total equality. Exactly what we want, that way, our greatest contributors will be completely unrecognized in any format.

Tsovaritch, truly you speak words of wisdom. Only when the the selfish edifices of Post and Member group have been torn down completely can egalitarian socialism prevail in its final form--for we must remember, work is not work at all unless it has been done at the behest of the collective. This sort of leadership is a shining example of Revolutionary progressiveisim and should be taken note of by the intelligentsia of the word! Onward with progress! Forward with the will of the people!

Lol. If we DID have a rep system here, I'd rep you for that post.

If people are good enough posters to be recognizable contributors, what's wrong with everybody just knowing they're good posters, and not having any built-in way to quantify it? This method of "rewarding," "recognizing" them is worse than post counts elitism for reasons already stated like popularity contest shit.

We don't need a format to recognize posters outside of mods. It's best that we have none. We can still respect people personally and know they're smart regardless of what some nothing stats tell us.

It can help you determine if the person is trying to help you or is just being a thorn in your side.

No.

I'm afraid of little children simply going "oh my friend lyle helped me REPUTATION POINT lalala~" which is really what's going to happen in the end. The only way I can really see this working is if a moderator applies said point, but I wonder if that's too much work for them. You could always hire extra staff solely for the purpose of applying such points.

I'm just such a bridge builder, what can I say.

You're like oprah. Cept you don't have millions of dollars and 12 hundred nuclear missle silos at your beck and call.

This is a good point too. The system will only further elitism, while without it, the members themselves will decide who are the cool members (Fireman) and who are the idiot spamming fucktards (ME!!!!) :3

Not to repeat what he just said, but I wanted to post this and I felt like if I didn't it would have been too small a post.

No.

I dunno. Considering how many people here loathe the air I breathe, I think you can let one rep point for me slide.

But since that's not really you're point I'll keep quiet about it.

It's just an abuse thing. People will find ways to abuse any system you come up with.

Hmm? Who says he doesn't?

Anyway, the edit button exists for a reason.

Why did we remove the rating system (you know, the one Vincent removed cause people were giving 1 star ratings to new users people) if we were going to introduce a system like this? As for the post count thing, why not make it hidden by default, but have an option where you can see everyone's postcount?

Oh, but of course I... excuse me, I mean, the state does. A strong Nuclear Arsenal is an absolute necessity for the survival of the e-Revolution, and the protection of the free Proletarian--this is why the FESSR has long been at the forefront of Atomic research. They say there is no finer institute in the world for the study of the atom than the Physics Institute and the University of Thunkingrad! Long has our success delving in the nature of of the particle been the envy of Bourgeoisie Science, who can never hope to keep up with our collective ingenuity.

The old rating system were just ratings based upon how much you were liked by the community. Strictly a popularity contest.

The new rep system being suggested is supposed to be an indicator of how many quality posts you make, or don't make for that matter. Although I'm not saying the rep system won't become a popularity contest either. :/

Because once someone was butthurt they'd give respective butthurter a shitty rating. Similarly, once someone thought "this member is a really cool dude!!111" they'd give them a 5-star rating. I mean, seriously, do you want people like Lyle running around with a 5-star rating?

So the intent will be different, but result could be the same. Then how about we just do a trial period? You know, a week of the rep system being up and if it is successful, we could keep it. Right now, we have no idea how the community will handle this feature.

Two issues I find with this:

-You do realise quality points, or any sort of numerical gauging systrem applied to a member-per member solitary basis is more or less going to amount to the same conclusive elitism, yes? Post counts and quality points are inherently interchangeable.

-Removal of postcount inherently demands removal of groups, being that, as far to my knowledge, the majority of non-moderator based castes here are due to various levels of postcount. I suppose one could alter it to time spent active, but again, that is altogether accomplishing no such remedy.

I haven't seen any of those, ever. When did this happen you old fart?

Anyways, I don't think anyone would have a problem with usergroups going away. There are no special features for usergroups anymore, so why have non-staff usergroups anymore?
