By the way, I was able to gain 915 EXP in 6 turns on Living Legend, which averages out to 763 EXP over 5 turns. I basically spammed Physic/Barrier and had Ninian dance Priscilla whenever possible, although I guess it helps that I had an unpromoted Rath gain over 2 levels over the entire chapter. I did, however, plant a --/11 Marcus over in the southwest corner to annihilate the reinforcements (and gained maybe about only half a level in the process), and one of the bosskills went to Heath.

I've also updated the turncount data to include Genesis. Good luck with that. It's a little luck reliant (requires 3 instances of Raven critting 1 in 2 attacks at 37 crit, which is still a 60% chance each), but far more elegant than the 9 turn strat I posted to YouTube a long time ago. I'm not sure if you can do it without a promoted Rath, though.

If I need 6 turns to get Genesis, then I'll probably just take the 6 turns. Although I did forget that the previous Secret Shop sells Physics (along with forgetting Pure Water, which really killed the last run) so buying those will help. Between Physic and not giving Hawkeye both boss kills, 5 turns should be possible. As for Genesis... Yeah, probably won't have a promoted Rath. 6 turns probably isn't happening, but I won't skip it this time.

Notes

Kent used the Dragonshield. Since he's doubling, he'd be more inclined to face more enemies compared to Sain, and Lowen obviously doesn't need it.

This may seem kind of sloppy and haphazard, but it was at least the 10th attempt and I was getting annoyed with it. I kept making mistakes and deviating from the practice run, which before this run were bad enough to cost a turn or get someone killed. I was a square behind with Hector here, but I was able to get him in seize range by delaying Marcus.

2:09- Making sure this archer won't kill Erk if he stands on the pillar.

3:27- Looks like I forgot to equip the Iron Lance.

5:27- This might be the cause of the problem that sets me behind at the end. I forgot about the nomad, so he didn't get countered. It still would have been fine if Hector hit him but...

5:44- He didn't.

2:53- For some reason, I thought Hector landed his hit. I think that's what I thought anyway. Really should have attacked here, there was a mad dash at the end when I saw that I didn't weaken this guy.

4:52- This is when I realized that Hector was a square short.

7:00- Plan A to free Erk to hit the thief fails. Attacking with the Javelin was not a good idea, but I was in moderate panic mode at this point and not thinking clearly.

7:09- Thank you Florina. That helped a bunch. Lowen would have been able to kill the thief blocking Erk, but Erk would have still needed to not miss, since he probably would have needed Thunder.

8:04- Massive trolling here from the game. I guess it could be worse, Lucius wasn't going to make it to level 10 for a promotion and C Staves anyway. But aren't they supposed to rush the throne room? What really annoys me is that they did in practice, but then blocked me in the recorded run.

The green soldiers don't leave their cell until turn 8 NPC phase. Or maybe there's some other trigger that activated before, but not this time. But they will invariably leave their cell on turn 8 NPC phase.

Notes

1:15- These two guys are going to attack Hector, just making sure they won't kill him. These enemies seem to hit a max of 26 and 25 attack, which comes out to exactly enough to kill Hector. Never saw them occur together, but that would be the kind of thing to happen in the recorded run.

2:59- It doesn't really matter what damage Oswin does to the boss here, the point is just to make sure his Steel Lance is out so Hector can ORKO.

3:40- This is why Hector was taking attacks earlier. 2 hits from Oswin would have killed him, but one of Oswin and one of Hector sets up a good kill for Kent.

I've updated the turncount through chapter 28x. I'm afraid to say that this is the segment of the game where I'll lose the most ground relative to you, mostly because I lost at least 9 turns recruiting Wallace, Farina, and Harken. The rest of the game isn't looking too bad, though.

I'm still debating if I want to grab Harken this time. It would cost an extra turn, maybe two if I didn't have a good enough plan there, but Harken and the Brave Sword would really help kill Valks in Cog of Destiny. Although at my pace, there's plenty of time to think about that yet. Wallace and Farina should help make up some ground though.

0:23- Marcus can handle this chapter himself except for 2 mercs that need to be cleared out of his way. This is the first one.

2:47- And this is the other one. With these gone, Marcus can rush the boss. Kent needs to land this one, because Sain is already occupied with rescuing him away from the Pegs.

3:03- Positioning Sain so he can't be attacked by more than one peg.

6:07- The first reason I gave Marcus the Icon. The second is Uhai.

Marcus is the muh fuggin shiz, but the good part about him refusing to get decent level ups for you is that you won't overuse him to the point where your other units suffer.

Yeah, Marcus is destruction incarnate. Really great guy to have around. Everyone else can only clear scraps from his glorious blazing path. :D

The reason Marcus gets bad levels with this patch is a bit tough to explain, but basically, it's not kind to units that start at level 1. The patch tends to round down, so the only thing most units get on their first level is HP. Marcus and Hawkeye both get speed at level 5 even though Marcus had to trudge through 4 levels to get there and Hawkeye just one.

I finished my playthrough, and have updated the turncounts accordingly.

Chapter 32 was fun. I also just barely made the cutoff for recruiting Karla in 31x (Bartre reached 10/5 on the last turn of chapter 31).

EDIT: I shaved a turn off Final. It's slightly luck reliant though due to my lack of offense (Jaffar has 2 chances to proc an OHKO at 81 hit and 47 crit and Athos needs to avoid a 33 hit, not to mention a 13 crit for OHKOing the dragon), but you should be able to get it easier.

Chapter 19

4/64 Turns

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ2K-8KVw9U

Notes

0:33- Hector hitting this guy is nice, but not too important. It enables Erk to kill this cav, who would have suicided on Enemy Phase anyway. The other enemies that attack Erk have 39 and 43 display, and only one of these three needs to miss. So if this cav is dead, Erk is guaranteed survival.

0:51- From this spot, Florina can take out the snag if the Pirate only has 19 attack.

3:55- At least one of these needs to go, because they like to gang up on Priscilla. I was able to kill both here because Erk didn't need to heal, but the normal plan was to have Serra heal her after one attacked, and Hector would kill that peg on the next turn.

4:51- I'm guessing (correctly) that Fiora would rather attack the weak cav than get countered by a Nomad, so Florina goes here.

6:06- Forgot to pull the Javelin out to counter.

7:14- As it turns out, it was really nice of Matthew to crit that Pirate. Sain wasn't supposed to miss, but fortunately Matthew was around to clean up after his blindness.

10:00- Sorry for all the delays in here, I completely forgot that Uhai moved first. So I was trying to concoct a way to keep everyone alive while wondering while I hadn't prepared for it. Which had already been taken care of, but I failed at remembering.

10:39- Marcus with one more strength would have really been useful. Uhai can proc an extra defense point, which means Marcus would have to try the Killing Edge and hope for a crit instead of helping his durability with the Silver Lance.

Since it seems like getting the Silver Card will cost turns, I'll probably just skip it. There should be enough cash to spam killers and Physic, I'll just have to actually do some planning instead of random spending. I can spend all my cash on the secret shop, as there will be the Ocean Seal, White Gem, and Heaven Seal before it's time to buy killers.

I'm probably also going to bite the bullet and go for a promotion with Rath. Raven needing some crits to kill in 23x was initially a little off-putting for me, but after what I pulled here with a lower success rate, I may as well go for it. And mine will have better stats too, which can't hurt.

Nice run, but when fighting against the cavaliers and nomads, couldn't you have use your horseslayer on Kent or Longsword on Sain so you could possibly one shot them?

Kent needs like, 14 str to OHKO nomads with Horseslayer.

I'm probably also going to bite the bullet and go for a promotion with Rath. Raven needing some crits to kill in 23x was initially a little off-putting for me, but after what I pulled here with a lower success rate, I may as well go for it. And mine will have better stats too, which can't hurt.

You'll still need like, at least 24 atk to 2HKO sages and druids, but only around 22 atk for the bishops. That's easy enough with a Silver Sword, but IIRC you skipped the one in chapter 17 (as did I). If you can somehow get Raven to like... 14/0 by chapter 23, he should have about 15 str, 21 spd after promotion, and can cleanly 2HKO with an Iron Blade or Steel Axe.

Lastly, good chapter 19.

So I was playing for the hell of it, then glanced at your play log. I'm 3 turns behind. <_<

Granted one of them was in Chapter 2 because I missed Glass and Chapter 7 because my Florina was Spd-screwed, though Chapter 5 I didn't really think of a 3 turn strat. Laziness occurred. Though it looks like 2's is reliant on Sain proc'ing Str in order to 2HKO the wall, then ~75% Displayed for both Sain and Kent to hit Glass. Chapter 7's is slightly worse: 82% for Lucius, though Florina drops to ~68% (63 though if I used an Iron Lance which would've OHKOed but I'd rather take two swings at 68%).

Yeah, skipped that Silver Sword. But if a 14/1 Raven can do it, that's only 5 more levels. Thanks for the tip.

I didn't think of the 3 turn either, but Aquilae was nice enough to provide it. It doesn't really matter much since it's just Lyn mode, I just wanted to keep the same kind of mindset through the whole game so I didn't have stuff like 20/1 Sain coming out of there. Which would help if it's just HHM, but it would kind of feel like cheating.

I actually remembered to buy Pure Water this time (6 of them), so hopefully Cog won't be such a pain. I do need to find some stuff to sell, I'm down to 3k with the secret shop coming up next chapter. One thing that's shocking, looking at this run so far, is just how high of a level Marcus is. Hell, I'm almost curious if it's possible to reach at or near Level 20. Then again I doubt you're going to carry Marcus that far, but just goes to show that he trivializes the game much like Seth, if only a little worse at it than his successor.

Leveling speed really slows down after like --/13 or so, though.

True, though around that time you'll likely see more promoted enemies to help the process. Not that it helps much more, and not that they're "abundant" either. The leveling system in this game sucks for the enemies.

Still can't upload the videos, but the early promoted Sain idea flying around has really piqued my interest. And since I have the attention span of a gnat, I'm pretty tempted to give it a shot. A 14/4 Sain would really be helpful about now, I'm fumbling around trying to figure out how Chapter 22 worked before. Might be able to coax faster completions out of 19x and 20 as well.

If you do so, I *highly* suggest using Xeld's fixed mode patch, simply because an efficient playthrough is probably best off done with "average units" in my opinion. That is, unless you're actually using it (wouldn't be surprised), in which case hi5.

That said, I'm loving early promo Sain. I haven't been keeping track of turncounts, but there are a couple chapters that have been made ridiculously easier by the presence of a second Paladin early on, and still more chapters where having a third Paladin early on is awesome. Hell, right now I'm doing a MOUNTS ONLY (plus maybe Hawkeye or Harken if I give one of them the boots but i don't know) playthrough, and I can actually have every single mount and flyer promoted by Ch. 26 (2 crests, 3 whips, and the earth seal), something you can't do on a non-promoSain run. Chapters like Dragon's Gate and Pirate Ship actually went infinitely better than I've ever experienced, and it was mainly thanks to the extra Paladin (Dragon's Gate had me ramming both paladins straight through Cameron's irritating face, Pirate Ship let me send Sain off to deal with the entire right side alone).

The only issue I've found is that it costs 2 turns in Lyn Mode at the very least, maybe more, but it also costs the Lyn Mode Gem, which is annoying. Also, Sain hitting 14 by Chapter 10 is pretty tenuous- the reason that it cost me an extra turn to finish Chapter 10 is because Sain was, I shit you not, sitting at 13.99 at the beginning of Chapter 10 and I had to have him kill some scrubtard Archer before I could let him promote. Still, he did a whopping 7x2 to Lundgren with the Javelin, and 15x2 with the Armorslayer.

Yeah, I'm using that patch. Average units remove some potential for luck manipulation, which means all this can be duplicated.

Sain ended up at 13.11 after chapter 9, so I promoted him there. His level 14 gains were only HP and strength, both of which he would gain anyway on level 2 promoted. I actually shaved a turn of chapters 3 and 7x this time around, although I spent an extra one on 5 to give Sain the boss kill. As for the gem, I was fine without it last time, and I'll probably sell the other Goddess Icon this time around for more cash. Marcus would get a lot more out of the Dracoshield than a measly 2 luck.

Anyway, Lyn mode round 3.
