I wouldn't say expert, there's certainly many people better than me in this world, but I do spend extensive time studying anatomical muscular structures so it's one of my stronger points, I guess.

I'm nothing of a spriter, and I do not think I'll ever learn.

But one tiny thing. I don't see anything wrong with your sprites, it's just something I would personally change, if I knew how to.

In your sprites, it looks like he's wearing sweat pants, or some sort of pants. Do you think you could remove the pants and make the V-lines on the lower body instead? THAT would be much sexier

They're meant to be the pants he normally wears lol. (meaning his Hero garb pants)

But I actually considered your idea there, but then decided that I don't want people to think that he's naked. I'm not into naked men. Just shirtless muscular ones. xP

That makes sense, though I was thinking of the beach when I thought of the v-line (or the pool)!

Y'know, when lifeguards wear their swimming shorts. But yeah, I can see how someone would think he's not wearing anything. How scandalous! How mischievous! I'll need to smack some sense into those people!

By the way, I was told to come here when I first saw your new avatar XD. I'll be coming back when another working of yours (presumably another avatar) intrigues me as much as this did.

He has fairly small delts and no traps at all for someone that big. The latter part is pretty glaring - You don't get that big and have that kind of neck.

I know you're not working on this anymore, but it's worth noting.

What black line? You mean his belly button? He has to have a belly button. :P

Oh yeah, and I need to clarify something. It seems that some people, not going to say any names, thought I was just brushing off and ignoring critique from earlier when I said I didn't want to work on this anymore. Saying that Thor wasted his time was probably poor wording, but I swear I had no intention of just completely ignoring his reference or anything. In fact, I was planning on using it the next time I drew a muscular guy. Like, seriously using it.

I'm sorry for causing people to misunderstand.

Also, I think I will go back to this Ike sprite again eventually. I don't really know why I said I wouldn't... That was dumb of me.

It looks like his abs are about to open up into a gateway to hell, there's like a black line between the abs and I keep waiting for cthulu to come out

How about you actually give her suggestions to fix it too?

Oh also next time you want to go further than you need to sound like an asshole, you might want to spell punchline right.

The muscle lines are way too heavily shaded, making them look like they were literally drawn on. His arms are weirdly tiny compared to his massive torso, his hair is pretty chunky, and his eyes shouldn't be so heavily shaded at the bottom.

mah, the abs look drawn on and un-natural, also the perspective on them seems skewed ever so slightly. something a friend showed me is that if you use more shading to define the bottom ab, it is a little hard to explain but hopefully you get a better general idea of why it looks so strange.

as for the arms they kinda have the same problem as the abs as they seem really draw on and un-natural. not to the same extent as the abs but is still prevalent. also if were going with radiant dawn design ike (who looks fugging ugly in my mind) then his shoulders should probably be a little beefier.

Thanks for trying to help, guys, but I'm starting to think that since people have repeatedly said the abs look "drawn on" even though I've altered them like three times and looked at a lot of references, I simply can't draw muscles. I think I'm just going to scrap this all together and get a new avatar again.

Seriously, you'd think after three attempts at doing abs, I'd get something right, but I haven't. :(

It's a learning process, not something that will magically happen after you do it x amount of times, honey. Just keep practicing and trying and you'll get it eventually.

Hell, I still don't have a full grasp on things like anatomy despite being a spriter for like what 8 years now? And I can't tell you how many times I've thrown out or reworked sprites even if I was working on them for a few months or even a few years.

I didn't become a muscle specialist in 3 attempts time

I started studying anatomy around 14 so that's 7 years time practicing very often at muscles and I'm still far from perfect

art in general takes a lot of practice

idk if you're gonna continue but I'll just leave this here in case you need it for future reference

Thanks, but that doesn't really look like a GBA style sprite anymore. And I'm trying to keep it GBA style. How do you propose I use this and keep the GBA style?

have you used thor's reference in your edits? If not you should try one more time with it.

No, he posted that after I made my edits.

I'm aware art in general takes a lot of practice. But I would think that three attempts would improve it a little bit, yet that doesn't seem like the case. And I've been drawing since 06, nine years now. Though muscles obviously aren't my main subject, admitttedly.

I'd probably suggest actually practicing muscles on a drawing medium before spriting more of it. From both observation of athletic people and muscle view models that doesn't show skin would help.

oh i've been drawing since '97 since I was 4 i just didn't seriously devote my time to anatomy and muscles until 10 years later

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu#Spelling_and_pronunciation

Cthulhu is spelled by many names, you cannot put a singular name on the dread lord of doom and despair

What Ath gave you there is a rough estimate of what a more anatomically correct Ike would look like. He didn't go through and make it exactly perfect. He gave you a template to build off. The way to use that is to take the messy look there and refine it to a Fire Emblem style. That's a difficult thing to do, but it's how you'd use the base.
