The Valar
Melkor
Originally, he was master of all things.
Originally wisest and mightiest of all the Valar.
Originally one of the Aratar. 
Brother of Manwë. Not married.
Fell in the early days of the world; he is since no longer reckoned among the Valar and the Aratar. Was later known as Morgoth, the Dark Lord.

Manwë
He is master of the air.
Out of all the Valar, he best understands the mind of Ilúvatar.

He possesses great white conches known as the Ulumúri which he uses to play music; anyone who hears this music is filled with an undying longing for the sea. They were made for him by his Maia Salmar, who is also known as Noldorin.

Aulë
He is master of craftsmanship.
One of the Aratar.
Married Yavanna in Arda.
He made the Pillars and the Lamps, as well as the lamps for the Sun and the Moon. He also made the chain Angainur which was used to chain Melkor/Morgoth. He also created the Dwarves.

Yavanna
She is the master of all things that grow.
One of the Aratar.
Sister of Vána, married Aulë in Arda.
She is also known as Kementári.
She made the Trees. The Ents owe their existence to her.

Námo
He is the master of fate and death.
One of the Aratar.
Brother of Irmo and Nienna, spouse of Vairë.
He is usually called Mandos, which is properly the name of his dwelling.
Dwells in the Halls of Mandos, where the souls of dead Elves and Dwarves are gathered.
Together with Irmo, he forms the Fëantur, the masters of spirits. He speaks seldom, and only speaks of the future at Manwë's bidding. He spoke the Doom of Mandos.

Estë

Oromë
He is the master of huntsmanship.
One of the Aratar.
Brother of Nessa, spouse of Vána.
Rides his great horse Nahar and blows his great Valaróma, whose sound has never faltered, save in the darkness that Ungoliant drenched Aman in after the destruction of the Trees. He found the Elves and called them in their own tongue Eldar, "Star-folk".

Nessa
She is the master of, uhhh... How do you describe this? Feet-skill? She's the master of running and dancing, if that makes more sense.
Sister of Oromë, originally not married; later married Tulkas in the Spring of Arda.
None can outrun her, save Tulkas.

Vána
She is the master of youth.
Sister of Yavanna, spouse of Oromë.

Tulkas
He is the master of war.
Married Nessa in the Spring of Arda.
None can outrun him. He is known for his loud laugh, which he turns to all save Melkor, whom he utterly despises. 
His hair and beard are golden.

Eönwë
A Maia of Manwë.
He is the standard-bearer and herald of Manwë.
He commanded the Host of the Valar during the War of Wrath.

Olórin
A Maia of Manwë.
Known for his wisdom.
Was sent to Middle-earth in the Third Age as one of the Istari and accomplished great deeds there under the name of Gandalf.

Ilmarë
A Maia of Varda.
She is the handmaiden of Varda.

Mairon
Originally a Maia of Aulë.
He is renowned as a master-smith.
He was corrupted by Melkor and became his right-hand. He is since known as Sauron. After Morgoth was banished from Arda, he became the Dark Lord.

Melian
A Maia of Vána and Estë (had to look that one up, oops).
She is renowned as a great singer.
She came to Middle-earth, where she married Elu Thingol and became Queen of Doriath, which she protected with a magical barrier known as the Girdle of Melian. She gave birth to Lúthien Tinúviel. She protected Doriath. After Thingol's death, she returned to the Gardens of Lórien.

Ossë
A Maia of Ulmo.
He is the viceregent of the seas.
Spouse of Uinen.
He joined Melkor when he overthrew the Lamps, but rejoined the Valar at Uinen's bidding; because of her pleas, Ulmo forgave him. He is still more violent and rebellious than any other Maia though.

Uinen
A Maia of Ulmo.
She is the viceregent of all that lives in the seas.
Spouse of Ossë.
Unlike most Ainur, she usually does not take the form akin to the Children of Ilúvatar, but she rather takes the form of a whale.

Arien
A Maia of Vána (had to look that one up, oops).
She is a spirit of great fire. Melkor tried to corrupt her into his service and make her a Balrog, but she refused.
She guides the Ship of the Sun across the sky.

Tilion
A Maia of Oromë.
He guides the Ship of the Moon across the sky. This task he accepted because he desires to be with Arien. He therefore often does not follow the route appointed for him, but comes too close to Arien. This has resulted in the Moon becoming scorched.

You know i've always wondered why the valar never do anything about tilion

first they set a course for the moon to follow, then tilion does not follow that course at all because he can't keep it in his pants

and not even once do the valar say "cut the shit, tilion, or we're firing you and getting someone else to steer the moon"
