So I thought hey, let's make a guide for the best skill sets that the 1st Gen characters can have, because why not?

Obviously the kids will always outclass their parents (with very few exceptions), so this is mainly a thing kindasorta for fun for people who feel like using the parent generation as a challenge or for whatever other reason.

So basically, our mission is to come up with the best singular skill set and class (or multiple sets/classes if they exist) for every parent-generation character.

To participate: Pick a Gen 1 character, propose the class, and propose a skillset for him/her, discuss. (If you like, rank the character relative to the other Gen 1 characters in terms of effectiveness; I may implement a tier/rating system into the guide as well at some point.)

* About DLC: Skills like Limit Breaker, Aggressor, All Skills+2, Iote's Shield, etc. will be listed in parentheses. In most cases, DLC skills will be superior to the alternative.

Oh yeah and we're skipping the Avatar/MU since they can do basically everything.

EDIT: Actually if people want, now that we're more or less done with preliminary skill sets for everyone else, I suppose we can attempt Avatar skill sets for each class just for the hell of it if people want.

Don't you want Luna on Sumia, though?

Here are some of mine:

1) Stahl - Sniper

Skills: Luna, Bowfaire, Astra, Pass (Limit Breaker), Hit Rate + 20/Lethality (Aggressor)

I was looking at Stahl's skill pool and it's actually not too bad. He could make a decent Sniper for a genwunner maybe I thought, better than most others in gen 1 anyway ('cept Chrom). Pass is always appealing for a Sniper to have for general use as well.

2) Nowi&Tiki - Manakete

Skills: Wyrmsbane, Swordbreaker, Str+2 (All Stats+2), Lifetaker (Limit Breaker), Quick Burn/Deliverer (Bond)

3) Nowi & Tiki alt - Sage / Dark Knight

Skills: Tomefaire, Swordbreaker, Lifetaker (Limit Breaker), Mag+2 (All Stats +2), Deliverer/Lancebreaker (Bond)

I'm lumping Nowi and Tiki together since they're basically the same. Unless Tiki's 3 extra points of speed make much of a difference, Nowi is probably better overall for either roles I guess. I don't know if one would be better suited for a role than the other *shrug* their mods don't seem too different.

Alternatively, you might be able to run a slightly modified version of that set for Sumia.

Class: Falcon Knight

Skills: Galeforce, Luna, Pavaise, Lancefaire, Dual Guard+/Renewal

Yes, yes, I know Dark Fliers have way better MAG, but since Sumia's pair-up bonuses are so nice, I thought she'd be able to work effectively as a support unit as well, and I'm partial to Falcon Knights for that role.

Yeah, I'd say Darkflier = Tomefaire and Falcoknight = Lancefaire for Sumia. There's probably no need for both.

Is Iote's Shield any good for consideration assuming DLC access? Or what about Bowbreaker, in Cordelia's case?

Olivia - Dancer obviously

Skills: Special Dance, Galeforce, Swordfaire, Astra, Vantage/Pass/Lethality (Limit Breaker)

She's pretty straightforward so I might just add her right away. This is really all Olivia would ever want to do, right?

EDIT: At some point I'll probably update the OP for formatting; maybe I'll separate into guys and girls, and maybe add extra spoiler tags for multiple class/skillsets.

Donnel - Hero

Skills: Sol, Counter, Armsthrift, Aggressor, any DLC skill.

Gregor - Hero/Berserker (support)

Skills: Vantage, Axefaire, Wrath, Astra, Counter

Cordelia - Falcon Knight/Hero

Skills: Galeforce, Bowbreaker (Falcon only), Sol, Lancefaire (Falcon only), One of the dark Mage skills, DLC skill.

Walhart - Conquerer

Skills: Conquest, Luna, Dual Guard, Pavise, Swordbreaker

Priam - Hero

Skills: Any breaker, Sol/Luna, Vantage, Swordfaire, Counter

Limit Breaker should be applied.

@Duke of Dozel

In regards to Gregor's skillset, if you're using him for support, why have three of his skills only usable as a lead? Astra, Counter, and Vantage seem like wasted space as a supporting unit, and even if he's not hard support, he'd still probably spend most of the time in back of a pair-up.

Also, Wrath only works under half hp. LB/Arms/Axefaire/Aggressor/All+2 would probably be the better setup.

Sorry, I just listed his class if you wish for him to be a support.

Axefaire, Armsthrift, Wrath (works if you have Gregor injured), and DLC skills if available. Of not, just out in any skill you feel could benefit him once he leads (so Wrath can kick in)

I dunno you guys, I actually really like Duke of Dozel's Gregor setup. It's mislabled as support when really it's probably going to be vantage-tanking, but the Vantage/Wrath/Astra/Counter strategy looks sound to me (at least as sound as anything else Greg can get without DLC).

I'm just going through and commenting on these / modifying them for with/without DLC play, don't mind me. These are pretty good on the whole, I'll just be moving DLCs to parenthesis to indicate that they're DLC skills and keep options open for non-DLC people.

Sumia - Dark Flier / Sage

Galeforce, Luna, Tomefaire, Renewal (Limit Breaker), Pavise (All+2 / Iote's Shield?)

Maribelle - Sage

Tomefaire, Mag+2, Demoiselle (All+2), Dual Support+, Slow Burn? / Bond (Limit Breaker)

Gregor - Berserker

Axefaire, All+2, Str+2, Armsthrift (Limit Breaker), Gamble? (Aggressor)

I guess the moral here is don't use Support Gregor without DLC. ~__~ he has very few support skills.

Olivia - Dancer

Vantage/Pass/Lethality, (Limit Breaker), Special Dance, Swordfaire, Galeforce, Astra

Basically same as what I did. I guess Olivia is pretty straightforward lol

Cordelia - Hero

Vengeance, Anathema, Tomebreaker/Armsthrift?, Galeforce?, Lifetaker, (Limit Breaker)

Why no Galeforce? Isn't that like... one of her main appealing qualities?

Donnel - Hero
Skills: Sol, Counter, Armsthrift, Axebreaker (Aggressor), Bowbreaker (Limit Breaker)

Could Underdog be useful if Donnel is kept at a sufficiently low level?

Gregor - Hero/Berserker (support VantageTank)
Skills: Vantage, Axefaire, Wrath (Limit Breaker), Astra, Counter / Aggressor

Cordelia - Falcon Knight/Hero Let's just focus on the FK set since skills you list are for it anyway.
Skills: Galeforce, Lancefaire, Bowbreaker / Iote's Shield?, Sol/Vengeance, Anathema, Armsthrift (Limit Breaker)

Vengeance is probably worth considering over Sol since it's her only damage-boosting proc.

Walhart - Conquerer / Wyvern Lord
Skills: Conquest, Luna, Dual Guard+/Quick Burn (Limit Breaker), Pavise (Resistance+10), Swordbreaker/Lancebreaker (Aggressor)

It's too bad Walhart has such awful skill sets. Wyvern Walhart has better strength/defense, and barely lower speed. Something to consider maybe, especially with DF's Resistance+10 to patch WL's bad Res. Also DG+ doesn't seem like a terribly useful skill for him since he has no support options other than MU

Priam - Hero
Skills: Luna, Swordfaire, Sol/Astra, Armsthrift (Limit Breaker), Lancebreaker/Vantage (Aggressor)

Any breaker, Sol/Luna, Vantage, Swordfaire, Counter
If he's using Swordfaire then Lancebreaker is the one to go with. With DLC, it might be best to swap faire/breaker for LB and Agg and focus on giving him Procs and maybe AT/Vantage or some other stuff. Priam has a lot of decent but not great options and it makes it kind of hard to nail something down for him, I know. ~___~

Can we get a little discussion on which Chrom skillsets are best? I know Sniper is pretty well agreed-upon as a useful class for him, though I thought Paladin and Bowfaire Bow Knight were also well-suited for him. Regardless, the skills that he should use are probably largely the same.
I'm thinking for Chrom we'll go with the two builds for Support and Striker. Tuvarkz's and Gaia's skill sets can probably be applied to several different classes and still be useful, right?

Chrom: Great Lord

Skills: Aether, Dual Strike+, Rightful King, Aegis, Dual Guard +

I think Gaia's setup below is probably the way to go for Lead Chrom with Bowfaire subbed for Aegis/DG+ if no DLC

Chrom: Dread Fighter (Full time support) Why DF? Is that the best Support class he can do? why not Bowfaire Bow Knight/Paladin/GL? I'm not disagreeing, just curious

Skills: Dual Strike+, Hit+20, Charm (Limit Break), Dual Guard+ (Aggressor), Defender (All+2)

Chrom - Sniper

Aether, Dual Strike+, Luna, Bowfaire/Rightful King (Aggressor), Bowfaire/Rightful King (Limit Breaker)

In light of all the different types of sets were getting I'm gonna go ahead and modify the OP for a multiple-build format.

EDIT: Did that and added Chrom and Olivia to the OP, since they're pretty straightforward and probably don't have any other builds. Viable classes for both Chrom builds are still up for debate.

>Underdog easily loses out, and it's a waste of money if you plan on reclassing to level 1 each time. Also Bowbreaker has too much limitations for him, so take it out. It's only good for snipers with longbows.

>Priam has many skills, since he comes with 4 right off the bat that he can't get on his own. Mix and match for your favorite. He makes great use of vantage with Ragnell, and unless you have Infinite Regalia, you'll need Armsthrift to keep it that way. Swordfaire (Aggressor) will give him the extra damage he needs to finish more targets. Id probably prefer if you gave him Luna over sol.

>Cordelia needs Bowbreaker if she doesn't have DLC. Armsthrift will give her use of Gradivus, which is great thanks to it being the strongest 1-2 lance. Vengeance should only be used if you KNOW she can be healed, since she lacks Vantage.

Also, Chrom is great as a sniper, but he lacks 2 things that make Snipers perfect: Pass and Galeforce.

For a 3rd class for Support!Chrom, I think GK would fit. Sure, GK can't lead for crap, but it has decent stats for support.

Duly noted, Gaia, I was thinking GK too. Thanks.

EDIT: I went ahead and listed GK as the top class for Support role thanks to his high Str and movement bonus, followed by GL and DF. GK is probably the best Support Chrom though, innit? Should we even bother listing other classes for that if GK outclasses them?

Donny: Agreed about Underdog, but I'd appreciate it if you suggested something to fill the empty void that'd be left by Bowbreaker if I took your suggestion there. :0 Maybe Patience/Prescience? Maybe they're better off replacing the breaker skills, IDK *shrug*

Priam: Yeah, but this isn't about picking one's 'favorite', it's about optimizing the characters. Vantage Ragnell seems okay, but keep in mind also that literally every sword user can use Ragnell (and most don't anyway). Don't think of Ragnell as a Priam-specific tool.

Cordelia: Why does she need Bowbreaker if Sumia doesn't need like Iote's Shield or something? Bowbreaker is useful for flying units to have, sure, but with FK/DF's superior movement can't you also just keep out of their range...? *shrug* I don't want to completely dismiss it, but if she can use something more useful... ...on second thought, she doesn't really have many more useful skills anyway does she. Anyway yeah we're assuming that Vengeance can either be healed by other units. MireSorc is probably the best use of Vengeance for Cordelia I suppose.

Chrom: Very few of the Gen 1 characters can be called 'perfect'. In terms of Snipers, no one in Gen 1 gets Galeforce and the only ones to get Pass are Stahl and Yen'fay, so those critcisms don't really apply. As such, Chrom is still the best candidate for Snipers in Gen 1, followed by Stahl.

Having both Vengeance AND Sol would be counterproductive, right?

I'm not totally convinced that Hero Cordelia is particularly viable when Falcoknight has Lancefaire.

I went ahead and added the following Cordelia builds to the OP:

1) Lead - Falcoknight

Skills: Galeforce, Lancefaire, Vengeance/Sol, Bowbreaker (Iote's Shield/All+2), Armsthrift/Anathema (Limit Breaker)

2) Miresniper - Sorcerer

Skills: Galeforce, Vengeance, Anathema, Tomebreaker (Limit Breaker), Armsthrift

Any objections / fixes?

Also, I'm still unclear on which is superior between Bowbreaker and Iote's Shield. Iote just negates the Bow weakness, right? If so, maybe Bowbreaker is just overall better on account of having a high likelihood of negating bow damage.

Olivia

Class: Dancer

Skills: Special Dance, Galeforce, Swordfaire, Astra, Pass/Vantage/Lethality (Limit Breaker)

What's the context for Olivia?

I don't think you really want her as an enemy phase unit, even if she is maxed out.

If she's going to use Galeforce with Astra and Swordfaire to get a move in before she dances someone else, then she's better off dropping the vantage for something else. Even if that something is Lethality. So I pretty much agree with that setup then.

As for support Chrom, Defender doesn't work in the back. (Yes I see the All Stats+2, but what I mean is shouldn't something else be the primary skill in that case? Then again, all the other ones are proc skills that don't even work in back row.)

IMO, Bowbreaker sounds better on paper, but in Lunatic, I'd take Iote's Shield.

The idea is to add one incase people don't have it.

If you don't have Iote's Shield like me, you make do with Bowbreaker.

Magic isn't as much of a problem unless you are a Wvyern.
