Eukon plays Golden Sun - also featuring: Proto's draft

So the 2012 draft had some balance and inactivity issues, so I decided to have a new draft with more active players and a different scoring approach.

[spoiler=Rules]Basic Rules:

• Characters and summons are drafted
• Each character can be picked by two different players
• All Djinn and classes are free
• Clear data from the Book 1 run of this draft may be transferred to Book 2. Book 1 Clear Data that are not from this draft are not allowed to be transferred.
• Undrafted non-free characters are to be killed off during random encounters
• No mandatory battle may begin with an undrafted non-free character alive
• No random encounter may end with victory while an undrafted non-free character is alive
• Corpses of undrafted characters may be used in any way you want, including utilizing their Djinn for summons
• Undrafted non-free characters may be revived outside battle for Djinn recovery
• Undrafted non-free characters may use Psynergy outside battle, and may hold Djinn or items

There are several EXCEPTIONS to the rules involving undrafted units:

• Undrafted units can't start off dead for the Moapa fight, so it's necessary to start that battle with undrafted units alive
• Use of multi-target revival abilities (Balm, Iris) may cause undrafted units to be revived during other battles
• In both the above cases, undrafted units must not perform any action other than Defend, and no drafted unit is allowed to use a single-target action (Psynergy, item, Djinn, etc) on an undrafted unit
• A special exception applies only to generic monsters, in that undrafted units may be treated as free units during battles that involve abusing the RNG to obtain a rare item drop. If the item is not dropped by the monster, then the use of the undrafted unit will be a violation of the rules and the player needs to load a save file to continue.

Free resources:

• All single-Djinn summons and Iris are free
• Isaac, Garet, and Jenna are all free for the Sol Sanctum
• Ivan is free for the Bandit battle
• Isaac is obviously free for the Colosso. If Isaac is not drafted, he may be grinded only up to the level of the highest drafted character level for the Colosso.
• All summons are free for the Colosso
• All characters and summons are free for generic battles that abuse the RNG to gain rare item drops
• In Book 2, Jenna is free until you get your first drafted character
• Sheba is free until Piers joins
• All characters are free for the Agatio+Karst battle

Competition:

• Competition is based on the turncounts of beating the bosses. The player with the lowest turncount wins.
• Characters must not exceed the level of the boss they are facing. This will not happen unless you actively grind and is only enforced to prevent extreme overgrinding.
• Storm Lizard, Deadbeard, Book 2 Bandits, Book 2 Colosso Warrios, and Dullahan are all optional and their turncounts will not be considered for the final score. Their turncounts should still be recorded if you do fight them.
• The turncounts for the Colosso Warriors in Book 1 and Agatio+Karst in Book 2 will not be considered for the final score. Victory is not necessary either. Their turncounts should still be recorded if you do beat them.
• All other optional bosses such as Toadonpa and the Book 2 guardians must be faced and their turncounts will be considered for the final score
• The scoreboard below shows a list of all bosses that are to be considered, along with their levels

Penalties:

• If an undrafted non-free character is ever alive during a boss battle, or if an undrafted non-free summon is used, there will be a penalty. The turncount for that boss battle with be multiplied by c + s + 1, where c is the number of undrafted non-free characters involved, and s is the number of unique undrafted non-free summons used. Each summon/character is penalized no more than once during a single boss battle.
• If a character's level exceeds the boss's level, that character will be considered overleveled for that battle and will be penalized for it. The turncount for that boss battle is to be multiplied by n + 1, where n is the sum of the level differences between each overleveled character and the boss.

It's not mandatory and can be repeated infinitely, so yes, it's considered a normal monster. You can cheese it with Bane anyway :P

Alright, I started the game. Nothing special in the Prologue. Why is Sol Sanctum so lame? It's one of the very few remnants of the ancient civilization, and yet it's just so lame compared to the lighthouses. Also, is it ever explained what that place with all the stars was? Is it some alternate dimension?

Anyhow, Grinded Isaac to Level 4 after leaving Vale. Nothing special in Vault.

Bandits (6 turns)

Isaac: Lv 4, default equipment

Isaac went Flint -> Venus -> Earthquake -> Flint -> Venus -> Earthquake. Ivan used Ray every turn. The left thief was focused on until he died on turn 3. Right thief was next, dying on Turn 5. Finally, the bandit was finished off on turn 6.

Forge, Gust, Granite, and Breeze get. Breeze was a real pain in the neck, but I was able to solo it with Isaac. As soon as I got Breeze, I left Tret tree and headed towards Imil. Also, a lot of generics were proving to be too difficult for Isaac solo, so I often grinded at some points. Isaac was at Lv 9 when Mia joined.

Filled up the bottle to heal Isaac and then again for Tret. Wow, reviving Mia is expensive! Anyhow, I returned to Kolima Forest to fight Tret

Got Jill's Hard Nut, and McCoy's Psy Crystal, then moved on to Fuchin Falls Cave. I got the Orb of Force while it was still dark just because I can, and then I did the rest of the dungeon for Zephyr and for fun.

On the fifth turn, Isaac summoned Cybele while Mia summoned Nereid (Djinn from Garet and Ivan). Then Isaac finished off the Killer Ape with a Fever on the sixth turn (boosted EXP, yay).

Anyhow, update time, I guess.

Got Corona and Mist and triggered the Feizhi scene in Xian. Then I went to Altin and started clearing the mines. I used the same Mars spammage strategy for the Living Statues, the Mimic, and Spritz. Mist was very useful for generics because sleep status.

Manticore was finished off with Sleet, providing the boosted EXP.

Got Vine, Scorch, and had a nice long chat with Lady Layana. Returned to Vault to get Sap and talked to the mayor. Returned to Vale to talk to Kay, Dora, visit Kay's family, and get Kite. Then I headed to the Tolbi-bound ship.

Yes, I'm well aware that Kraken is vulnerable to sleep, but I could not construct any strategy involving Mist that is more efficient than what I settled with.

I had intended to go to Crossbone Isle, but I somehow screwed up and made it to Tolbi instead >_>. Anyhow, I got a bunch of Djinn and Lucky Fountain goodies, then saved Babi and entered the Colosso. I also got Isaac into the best physical class series in the game.

Well, I plan to delay the Storm Lizard until after I get Bane so I might as well save Toadonpa for later too. I headed to Suhalla Desert, got all the treasure, captured the best Djinn in both Books 1+2 combined, avoided the Storm Lizard, and made it to Suhalla Gate.

Got Dew, visited Idejima just for fun, got Carry. Headed to Lalivero, got Torch, got Luff, entered Venus Lighthouse. I revived Garet and Ivan and manipulated the RNG to get myself TWO Feathered Robes.

I went through Venus Lighthouse until I got the Gaia Blade, then I Retreated three times to return to Lalivero. Headed all the way to Suhalla Desert, let the Storm Lizard blow me to Suhalla, then re-entered the Suhalla Desert and made it to the red tornado that blew me to Crossbone Isle. I cleared floors on Crossbone Isle until I got Bane, then allowed the Tempest Lizard to blow me to Suhalla. Then I went all the way back to Lunpa to beat Toadonpa

After reviving Ivan and Garet for Djinn recovery and killing them off, I headed to Crossbone Isle to complete the rest of it (except Deadbeard). Then I grinded on Tempest Lizard because I can finish the Lizard in 3 turns without getting hit and gaining boosted EXP after resetting.

After slaying the Tempest Lizard 72 times (I looked at the Potion quantities to count), I reached Lv 33, because I somehow thought that Samurais learn Quick Strike at Lv 33. Instead, I found Isaac learning Helm Splitter, an EPA whose existence I completely forgot about due to how crappy it is (even the Lv 10-15 basic EPAs are better >_>). The grinding wasn't a total waste though, because the next best EPA in Book 1 (after Quick Strike) is Annihilation at Lv 31.

I then tried to abuse Annihilation against Deadbeard. It kept resulting in failure because a) Deadbeard keeps Breaking my Impacts, and b) Annihilation costs too much PP. It was then that I realized that Helm Splitter might not be so useless after all...

To summarize, Demon Spear + Impact were used to maximize Isaac's Attack while Cybele maximized Isaac's Venus Power, with both effects being utilized for Helm Splitters while Mia healed with Potion/Wish Well or used Break when I didn't like Deadbeard's buffs. I logged my actions because I wanted to keep track of Deadbeard's HP and counting turns is a pain without any record.

Mia carried 4 Jupiter Djinn + Ember + Torch + Standby!Fizz. Fizz was on Standby before all the other Mercury Djinn were put on Standby. Mia also equipped the Cleric's Ring if it wasn't obvious enough.

MenSat was pretty straightforward. Isaac spammed Annihilation on Menardi while Mia boosted Isaac with Impacts and then offered support with Wish Well, Potion, or Break. Annihilation after two Impacts dealt over 400 damage to Menardi. Menardi went down on turn 7, and Saturos on turn 15. Death Size Scythe was annoying, so I gave Isaac all my Lucky Peppers to avoid the OHKOs. Mia also used a Psy Crystal on Isaac when he was running out of PP.

Fusion Dragon (12 turns)

Strategies involving Impact kept failing because FD loves to spam Break. So I decided to quit trying to Impact and let Isaac spam unboosted Annihilations (~230 damage instead of ~400) after Cybele x 2 (563 damage each, and both boosts are negated by Break). In the meantime, Mia summoned Nereid (~440 damage) a total of four times and healed with Wish Well, Potion, and one Fizz (Fizz usage being necessary for summoning the fourth Nereid). Surprisingly, nobody ever got poisoned.

Relatively short is fine, because your entries so far have been really long anyway. I doubt they'd be lame.

Also, I added a poll about whether Felix or Sheba should be made free until Piers joins. Jenna solo for all the way until Piers joins would be really tough; not just for bosses, but also for Djinn battles and even generics. Running from generics would keep her level low, which would make everything even tougher for her. Not to mention even if Jenna succeeds in soloing bosses, the turncounts would likely be significantly higher than a 2-man party.
