There are also various specialised progams that tell you what bytes will be changed, and what they will be changed to, without even having to apply the patch.

Sure, I guess.

There's not much about it to make open source, lol. Just changed 4 bytes is all.

Hey there, I have Arch's Shadow Dragon Sync Patch already applied to my ROM of Shadow Dragon; however, I want to be able to also have this patch as well. Can someone help me in understanding how to apply this second patch over my first or give me assistance in which 4 bytes are changed in whatever open source program it's edited in?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried applying the patch and just seeing what happens first? Backup your ROM first, obviously.

Wow that was really fast of you

Yep, I've actually tried both alternatively. I first did the patch for Gaiden and applied the Sync patch, but all I got when I booted it up was a white screen on my flash cart. I also did the reverse, in which I applied the Sync first, then Gaiden.

Yep they work absolutely fine

hrm

well as for what I changed, it's bee a while so I don't really remember. But you should be able to open the unpatched and patched ROMs in HxD and do a file compare, and that will tell you what I changed. I didn't use any fancy tools, just edited the ROM in a Hex Editor.

Alright I'll do that, thanks man!

In it's current state, Ymir gets recruited with zero movement. I think this is because the map he spawns on as an enemy requires him to be stationary and thus, he has zero movement there. When recruited, he keeps that zero movement.

Interesting. Does this happen in vanilla FE12? I can't imagine that anything I changed would affect that.

What happens to the character in the 15th/16th slot? Perhaps the game hard codes which character to give movement to.

Edit: Refresh my memory, does Etzel have movement in 17x?

He's supposed to be stationary so I assume he also has zero movement in 17x but the recruited one isn't bugged like Ymir. My guess at why Ymir has zero movement after being recruited is just that: a guess. Since Etzel isn't bugged, there could be a different version.

In any case, here's a screenshot I have. It's from the preparations screen in the final chapter.

Also, if I reclass him, the game attempts to add or subtract movement but it remains unchanged.

I actually checked just now, and it seems there's a value in the character struct in memory that determines whether or not to display movement. When that is set properly, Ymir's movement displays properly.

Why that isn't being set by the game, I have no idea. I'll look into this some more over the weekend.

(it would be helpful if some good samaritan would provide a save that has reached 20x "legit.")

I happened to just clear it but I'll probably be right back there sometime tomorrow. I am actually currently creating an epic masterpiece of a revamp of this game and wanted to use Ymir and got a harsh reminder of this movement glitch. I don't see anything in Nightmare that could help me fix it.

I'm also not too happy that I can't find any unit disposition editors, but I found some interesting ways around that to make the many bosses cursed with no 1~2 range in the original not garbage anymore.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows how to get an Elysian Whip. I've tried turning other items into it and they either freak the fuck out or it becomes an unusable Elysian Whip.

I easily fixed the Ymir movement issue by changing his AI in the disposition file to pursue you instead of being stationary, thus granting him displayed movement. :)

I could not get the disposition editor to work for me.

Also, that's still not a satisfactory solution to me. I don't want to change anything besides the Gaiden requirements.

The disposition editors are trash. I don't even use Nightmare at all anymore. I just use Hex Workshop and all I use from the Nightmare modules are the hex ID's of stuff. I suppose someone could fiddle around more with the AI bytes to find one that makes him both stationary and have displayed movement, or at least not pursue, but I just went with what worked first. Experimenting with all the bytes is kind of stressful.

I'm fine with his AI change in my revamp of the game since I'm revamping almost everything anyways.

Since Nintendo shut down WiFi services for all their Wii and DS games, I actually use the altwfc server (http://www.altwfc.net/) and found that it works for SD's Online Shop. Of course, you'll have to access the shop on the right days for the Elysian Whip (like the 1st, 11th, 21st, and 31st I believe of every month).

Is it possible that the Ymir issue might be related to the fact that he (assuming the player have recruited and kept alive all characters before him) will end up at a spot in the character list that was never intended to be used? (at that point in the game you'll have more characters in you party than was ever possible in unpatched Shadow Dragon)

I guess this is could be checked by having at least two (maybe three or four, just to be safe) characters killed off, or left unrecruited, before you reach his gaiden, and see if the issue persists.

I also think that it's probably related to the fact that he immediately leaves the map when you recruit him, something no other character in the game do.

I easily fixed the Ymir movement issue by changing his AI in the disposition file to pursue you instead of being stationary, thus granting him displayed movement. :)

Would it be possible to make it so that Ymir's disposition changes when his recruit conversation is initiated? (thus applying this fix without actually changing anything about the gameplay)

Well, this is interesting. I was actually wondering a couple years back if this kind of thing would be possible, and while the people I asked said it wasn't, I guess times change. As someone who does actually enjoy this game, it'll be nice to finally be able to fill out the whole army. Thanks for this!

Very nice and necessary quality of life patch! This whole mechanic (and wonky emulator issues) is why I opted to not play 11 and went for 1 instead, but I'm inclined to reconsider eventually thanks to this patch.
