The CHAPTER 8 PRELUDE!

J: We have been marching at full pace for nearly two days. The men are exhausted, myself among them. The only thing keeping us going is the captain’s encouragement and the importance of the mission. Thankfully, Lady Salamanca has given us directions that has cut our travel time significantly. We shall be upon the castle within the hour…

Honestly, by the time we get there, we're all going to be too tired to do anything! I've tried to convince captainservant to rest, but nooooooo, he has to prove himself worthy or whatever...

So, things are looking pretty bleak for our allies...

Great knight guy: Today is the day you face judgment for betraying your oaths!

Ostreich ally: Gwahaha! Betray my oaths? Never! I swore loyalty to King Tercio, and I shall die to protect his legacy!

Honestly, we haven't actually seen the opposing side of this revolution do or be evil. At all. Then again, we're mercenaries, we aren't supposed to care.

Greendier: Can we really hold them off?

Foskey. Foskey. There's a problem with your observation. There are five of you, and almost 40 enemies. And your generics aren't exactly tough. I don't think numbers can be discounted, here.

And of course, it's easy for you to be secure when you have awesome weapons, a gate, good stats, and four dudes to hide behind, while your allies have none of those things.

So yes, because of the fatigue, we only have 8 people able to fight. Except whichever people I want to take, specifically, they will always be the only 8 people who can fight.

[This honestly doesn't feel right, considering we just got 2 new characters and this is the final chapter. But things are gonna happen later that will make this make more sense...]

Here's my formation! Once again, a giant block of purple, except we're missing a person. Also, I switched axeservant for mageservant. I want to see her fail...

Itemservant comes out, and I realize he isn't leveling up! This is a problem!

Now then, let's talk strategy! As you can see, we're fighting LOTS of enemies, and our allies are holed up on an island(which luckily has only 1 route of attack, they aren't in that much danger), so we can't expect any enemies to be cleared for us. We should probably just advance and try to get to the area with the allies before anything terrible happens. If the boss decides to charge before we're there to stop him, THEN we'll have a serious problem...

[There are a few problems with this map. First off, the boss never charges, even though this map seems like its designed for him to do so eventually. Second, maybe add a must-survive diamond to Foskey, though it honestly isn't THAT important.]

And so we have ANOTHER prepromote-with-balanced-stats boss! Well, he probably shouldn't be that hard to beat, even if he does have a fort.

Now, I remember something from earlier:

Yup. This guy is recruitable, and unfortunately I'm going to have to let mageservant do it. He will be the bulkservant, and we will not be using him, but we WILL be taking those awesome weapons off his hands!

I start us off, and decide I need to start one-shotting things.

Captainservant, I get it if you're tired, but honestly, you're kind of a worse version of lanceservant... improve yourself!

And now, for the EPIC SAGA of the RANDOM ALLIED KNIGHT!

So, where we left off, we'd pretty much cleared the blockade around bulkservant's area, and soon we'll be able to head for the boss.

But first... ANY TIER 2 DARK TOMES?

Buyable... promotion... items...

I pick up some normal stuff(and 1 seal because that's the kind of guy I am) sadly.

See this huge group of horses and an armor? They don't seem to be moving... at all...

Me and notadarktomeservant have nearly caught up. Wish I'd made someone else take that detour...

Stealservant makes for a great distraction!

Oh crap! SO MANY HORSES!

(Also, note that silly green cavalier who left bulkservant's island. This is playtime for the big kids, get back there!)

Healservant's speed makes her good for certain things, but I'd rather have a staff-user who is actually good at using staves.

Aceline is pretty much as good as Foskey. Equal or better stats except for strength (expectable) and luck (not expectable).

The healers don't like magic for some reason.

When I see all the cavaliers on this map, I'll get a horrible déjà vu from the latest DoF chapter...

FINAL STATS!

First off, ME! I kind of wish I had been able to get that last bit of XP and truly reached my max potential, but this is more than good enough. Yeah, I totally overleveled myself, and never let myself get any fail levels. If I am allowed to promote, I'll pretty much just wreck the game.

Captainservant! In a vacuum, he wasn't bad at all, but there were quite a few people around who outclassed him. He has good growths though, so maybe I just got unlucky.

Healservant! That 10 magic at level 17 is the reason I dropped her. There was no reason to believe it was ever going to get better, awesome speed or no awesome speed.

Armorservant! She had her good moments and her bad moments, but I think she ultimately turned out pretty well, and probably would have gone on to be a competent general.

Horseservant! Her strength is her main problem, and I don't know if she needs a buff in that or what, but she's just going to end up as dead weight if she doesn't get more of it.

Stealservant! Go and compare this guy to horseservant. Go on, do it! This pretty much shows that horseservant is bad, and this guy is amazing. I don't know if I just got lucky with his strength or what, but this guy is pretty strong for a thief!

Wingservant! It took him a while to get his defense and strength up to a reasonable par, and his low speed made him suffer, but I think he's actually becoming good now!

Mageservant... Is it any wonder I was so worried about her surpassing me? Sure, she looks worse than me at first glance... but she has SEVEN extra levels of growing room! Nerf please!

Axeservant! He didn't get to come to the final battle, and that's okay, because he doesn't have many stats other than strength.

Bowservant! He has good strength and skill, but not really much else. Maybe I should have taken that other lady...

Lanceservant! He was actually a good bit better than Algimas, thanks to his strength and speed, but he sacrificed pretty much all other stats just for those three. And that's fine, because strength/speed/defense is all you really need most of the time.

Crutchservant! You know, his stats were never bad for his level, but his growths meant he would always be behind the rest of my team.

Lordservant! No idea how he would have turned out. I honestly can't say where his stats are going.

Staffservant! I didn't take her because she was better than healservant, but because she actually has an opportunity to get good magic.

And that's all the characters!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Overall, this hack was good! While you might be willing to declare the tactician OP by watching this LP, I just overleveled myself, which is why I was as good as I was. However, there is some simple stuff that could stand improvement, like some inconsistencies that could be fixed for smoother experience. The random escape point in chapter 5 and the enemies in 4x being "Black Fang" are 2 examples, but there was a lot of text skips that could also stand to be fixed. Other than that, the character balance could maybe stand to be jiggered with. While I didn't get their growths, it often felt like whenever I got a new character, it was meant to replace the old one, which I had dedicated valuable XP to. It could have been just my luck with growths, though.

So, great hack, and I hope you continue it, and get more recognition! Because seriously, more people should play this hack.

Don't be ready for me to dive into Ostian Princess yet, there's one more thing first!

Next time: The palettes might end up more interesting than the actual fight!
