It seems to me like Hinoka is in the deck because...

1. Hoshido does not have many good options for fliers, and Ryoma does not allow you to mix with other colors cooperatively.

2. She's a 40 support for Ryoma 1, which could randomly save you an orb considering how long he can wait before promoting.

3. At 60 power, 70 with Kamui M, she can make a decent backup attacker late-game.

4. Cost 1 Hinoka is in here already for a reliable early 40 attacker, so running 4 and 4 means you can draw into critical hits more easily.

To me, it's less about using her ability and more about what else she can do for the deck.

So I went around twitter keeping track of how many tournament victories each deck has since the beginning of set 2. Out of 66 tournies (that I could find):

MARTH - 14
RYOUMA - 8
LISSA - 5
CHROM - 5
NAVARRE - 4
SOLEIL - 3
KAZEHANA - 3
KAMUI(M) - 3
KAMUI(F) - 3
PIERI - 2
EFFIE - 2
HINOKA - 2
OBORO - 2
OWAIN - 2
INIGO - 2

SEVERA - 2-ish idunno how many.
RINKAH - 1
TIKI - 1
MARX - 1
LUCINA - 1
ABEL - 1

Severa? As in.. Luna from series 2? Or like.. some weird reverse Severa harem from series 1?

That's really surprising.

I'm also quite surprised that Chrom and Lissa have won as many tournaments as they have. Lissa mainly because I didn't think she'd be popular enough, or consistant enough to win that many tournaments, and Chrom because he was badmouthed for such a long time at being inferior to Inigo Harem which was "the only blue deck to run" last set.

The niche for Severa is that she's 70 on turn 2. And by now, a full male deck is FAR better than Inigo's full female deck.

Huh... So it IS a current thing. I can see how the deck would function, just seems like Severa is a rather underwhelming MC as opposed to other characters with effects they can use.

Yeah, her effect is basically that she costs 1 mana less, but has to have enough males to function. (The Severa decks often still play a few women)

Also she doesn't get Gerome'd like Inigo.

That is a good point, being a cheap 70 is nice and being one of the only MC's that can counter Gerome is nice too.

I might have to try the deck out a little, I wanted to build a deck around her initially but figured that Chrom, Marth and Inigo were better MC's in the first set. Having no real effect other than being big vs Axe users sucks a little though and that's what put me off her initially. She is good for a 3 though.

I think about half of Lissa's wins were from some the same dude. She's his waifu, after all. He also won yet another thing today.

Do you know what types of decks he was up against? I wonder if he's vsing "meh" decks or players.

Any time I've ever faced Lissa, they always have a super hard time getting her promoted, or keeping Maribelle + Lissa on board.

Well sure, if you can promote her quickly.

I see too many flaws with Lissa for her to be an overtly OP deck.

As a cleric she has no damage on her at all, so she can't take any orbs until she promotes which puts you at a disadvantage offensively.

As a cleric she only has 30 base attack, which means you're prone to losing orbs unless she can safely hide in the backline (which is hampered by Marth after turn 2, archers and mages who can attack her no matter where she is and any flier with the ability to gain 1-2 range, which isn't uncommon) so she's weak defensively.

Her promotion is a good card, no doubt about it but she's only a 60 which puts you at a disadvantage when defending because again, she's prone to losing orbs.

During your turn, you need to have Maribelle out to take advantage of Lissa, her being an 80 means there's a good chance she's beating over whatever stands in her way and getting that effect off so you can start recycling copies of Maribelle to guarantee she stays at 80 next turn, or additional promotes/base units and every second turn Maribelle guarantees you a crit/evade with Lissa in the retreat.

She's OP once you get the deck rolling sure but the deck relies on too many moving parts for me to REALLY consider it OP.

Unless there's something I'm missing, but the Lissa decks at my local tournaments are too inconsistant to be considered OP I think.

Quick summary of what we've been seeing since set 3 release:

The game as a whole seems to have gotten more aggressive. For example, the person who won a ton of tournaments with Lissa started playing more offensive cards instead of setup.

I think this is because green got Elincia, that can make sudden board swings to win a game.

White/Black duo decks started dominating since yesterday, in two global forms: One is with Azura as MC, playing a ton of offensive supports like Dark Emblems and archers, with black being merely an "engine" to fuel AzuraW4's great effect. The other is a "combo burst" style, with white CorrinF4 and cards like that suddenly summon a huge amount of fat stuff on the board.

The latter has been seen to win tournaments with CorrinM, Kinu or Azura as MCs, but there should be more options out there.

I'd like to start an archive for tournament decklists. I see a lot of people sort of lost on what works and what doesn't, so I hope this will give a good overview.

I'll sort them by Main Character being used. Note that some Japanese tournaments can be like 3~5 people, so not all of them will be optimized, just good guidelines.

Feel free to discuss any of them! (And you can send me anything I haven't included)

So, Ranulf seems to be a REALLY good deck right now.

Is it dominating Japan at the moment? It really seems like THE deck to play right now.

- Rank 3 Ranulf is a 70 attack with 1 - 2 range that is more often than not a 90 minimum thanks to how many Fang types the deck tends to run. THEN you throw in supports on top, and it's relatively easy for him to hit 110 minimum, which is crazy good.

- Lethe is a really strong unit too, with rank 1 being able to snipe out Mages and Clerics in the backline, and rank 2 just being a solid 60 base with no real downside (Other than she can't be supported by the 8 - 12 cards in the deck that AREN'T Fang)

- Naesala can become a 1 - 2 range with Clearing the Skies with 1 bond flip, and is also the games first real draw engine. Allowing an additional draw every turn if you play a Fang type while another is on the field.

- Ena allows for backrow manipulation so you can take out pesky archers/clerics/MC's for almost no cost (her and 1 other Fang might hurt at the start of the game, but she combos ridiculously well with Leanne) and punishes players for promoting backline units

- Leanne is the deck's Cleric and if I'm right, her ability actually activates before deployment phase even begins. Which means she can fetch any units you supported during your opponents last turn and IMMEDIATELY deploy them. Downside is that she must be tapped, and untapped for her ability to activate, but Ena has ridiculous synergy with her.

- Reyson is basically just a "Flip 2 bonds, tap this unit, selected unit acts again". The downside is near non-existent in this deck (Non-Fang loses 10 attack till the end of the turn) which can give Ranulf (Who should be your main attacker in most cases, because why wouldn't he be.) 2 attacks every second turn.

- Tibarn seems like a super powerful card if you can get him rolling, but I can't imagine that would be easy, he funnily enough seems like one of the weakest cards in the deck usually.

- Jill technically hurts Ranulf and Lethe by not being a Fang unit herself except for her being a base 30 support which means Ranulf is only ever losing -10 which puts him at a base 100 and Lethe can't support with her at all, but her Rank 1 counters opposing Ranulf decks and her Rank 3 gains +20 when supported by a Fang. Which means that even though she's not a Fang and doesn't allow Lethe to reach near 100% activation, she still adds synergy to the deck and her very existence can be a counter in the mirror match.

This deck has some seriously mental synergy going on, I don't know if it's just a kneejerk reaction but I've been testing it out tonight against a bunch of people and I've been absolutely cleaning shop.

Or is there something else I'm somehow missing out on?

Ranulf is performing really poorly, and if you play the deck enough (5~10 games is plenty) you'll notice the really, really painful flaws that no other deck has.

Besides Ranulf, the majority of your deck can't put a dent in anything, as the majority of your deck is 10~20 support, and your only attackers at 70 are Ranulf and Tibarn.

Of course, Naesala and Ranulf are probably overpowered, but the rest of your cards is really underwhelming as the game progresses. (And Ranulf is a lategame deck, which also goes against the current metagame) Leanne should never resolve, and the deck also fails to find a Ranulf3 a LOT of the time.

I'm waiting for series 5 to greatly boost Ranulf's viability so you can actually play purely 20+ supports, but I'm also pretty sure a Fang unit with 30 support will never exist. Ranulf will keep the same flaws as it has now as long as no viable green beaters (Fang or no) are released.

But can't you get around some of its flaws by making the deck Green/Red? I've been using a Ranulf deck since set 3 came out and it has been rare that I lose a game and even then it comes really close to me winning. Lena3 is a good secondary healer for the deck since her effect activates whenever you deploy a cost 2 or less which is what you'll end up doing a lot.

The redeeming factor of Ranulf is that he's almost always guaranteed to be a base 110 once he's class changed to rank 3, which makes him nigh impossible to climb without crits for the average deck.

To mix in MORE non-fang units by mixing red with green severely hurts the chances of you pulling a Fang support.

I've been testing the deck with 4x Mist and 8x Jill and even running that many non-fang hurts the deck considerably, if Ranulf doesn't pull a Fang support (Which with 12 cards is rather scary, unless my math is wrong it's about 29% chance of supporting with a non-fang every turn, provided all 12 are in the deck.) Running no Mist and 8 Jill is still about 19%.

You're better off just running a dedicated red/blue.

I definitely had a knee-jerk reaction about Ranulf, the deck is good but not as good as I thought. Rank 2 Lethe while she's big early game doesn't really contribute much past there. Ranulf is only as good as the number of beasts you run, and it forces you to run sub-par cards to give him that 110 base, which is still REALLY good and a testament to how strong that card is, if the deck operates around using average cards and still performs well.

Naesala's only really handy as a draw engine and is limited by the number of Fang units available, as well as opponents playstyle. If they don't wanna attack into your Fangs so you can play new ones next turn, he kinda becomes an expensive anti-flier because being a rank 4 60 with 1 range ain't great.

I still think Leanne is pretty good, but playing more games I've found some difficulty getting her effect off if I don't have Ena as a combo card. Moving her to tap is incredibly risky and she's guaranteed to die if she moves to the front.

Tibarn is still super underwhelming. Never gotten his second effect off, Fangs are expensive to summon and they're relatively weak.

I also don't like not drawing on class promotions which I do a little bit more than I'd like.

Also, I've been testing out Velour too, she's actually a really neat little unit provided you can get copies of her in the retreat. Unavoidable attacks on non-MC units is cool, and fetching copies of herself when she wins by battle is actually pretty awesome too.

She's not really broken at all, but she's a really neat card and I'm having a lot of fun with her right now.
