Hi, i dont know all this weird terminology, what is a whale when applied to mobile gaming?

Also free to play is to be expected. Did...you lot honestly think it wasnt gonna be like that? You probably can pay to get shortcuts to more loot that unlock characters and junk. Or the coolest stuff can get unlocked hella early if you shell out the coin for it.

1. Whale is a casino term for high rollers that is also applied to mobile, in mobile gaming (and facebook gaming and casinoes before it); it's the people that were spending up thousands of dollars per on these games. It's very linked to gacha/gasha which is a prime way for people to suck money out of gamers.

2. Gacha or gasha refers to Gashapon, which are the vending machines that take quarters that you often see at supermarkets. Basically, the way it works in a lot of japanese mobile games is the way to get new units or weapons is done through a version of that, usually you don't get the units that you want from it, so people will spend a ton of money to get the units or weapons they want from the gacha.

Sales numbers mean everything to a company that is trying to sell a product, if something doesn't sell well they will likely either, change the forumla, listen to complaints if they want to try again and thats a huge if.

But Sales numbers literally mean if franchises get more games, especially with Nintendo. The 2nd party people get a little more leeway because they have their own stuff, but when it comes to the first party stuff, lets just say, thats why F-Zero is dormant, although even in the 2nd party department, Golden Sun having stopped dead despite there being room for a 4th game (although the lackluster response in general to the 3rd wasn't too good either). Star Fox Zero? It's gotten ok reviews and people aren't being as harsh on the controls after they realized it wasn't as bad as extreme people said, but its so far had the weakest opening for a Star Fox game in terms of sales, which is after they listened to what people wanted, which was another game that was like N64, but that ended up being a big complaint for alot of people ironically. (Despite the fact that there are new areas and the old areas are also used in completely different ways). It likely means we won't see another Star Fox game in quite some time, because of how Ninty works. Although they should have realized everything Platinum works on no matter the quality is going to undersell.

Companies don't usually have the time to look at every single little opinion on their games. Nintendo tries harder than most other companies but even then its not a very frequent thing (The Zelda re-releases are a good example of them listening to players such as speeding certain processes up and making things more mechanically make sense)

And you want to know why games like Golden Sun are dead now? Because the developers didn't pay attention to what the fans actually want and that's why they ended up not liking Dark Dawn, I imagine.

Yes, sales numbers DO mean that a franchise gets more games, but Nintendo can't just go "oh, this game sold great, let's go make another one because it should sell great too!" They need to pay attention to what made it sell well and if the response to the game was good. If people didn't like that game despite buying it, they need to listen to what was wrong and fix that for the next game. And if a game didn't sell well, they can still get another game to be successful, you know.

If a game didn't sell well, you can still look at just how many people enjoyed it. If in general, most of the people who bought it liked it and the game got good reviews, you can see that the main problem isn't the game itself. Tellius is in this kind of situation. It generally got good reviews and a lot of people that played them really liked them. So why did it sell poorly? This is where I always said the poor marketing was the problem. With Ike in Smash and all now, more and more people have become interested in these two games. Imagine if this kind of marketing had happened when the games were still in development! Tellius would've sold better than it did!

And even if people didn't like a certain game AND it sold poorly, you could see what people didn't like and fix those problems.

Also, isn't Sticker Star a game that actually sold okay, but most people hated it? A good example of a game that sold well, but was hated. If Nintendo looked at what was hated about it, they'd be making Color Splash more like TTYD or SPM. (I still hope Color Splash is good though, of course)

Again, I never said sales were not important at all. They're just the ONLY important thing here. This can apply to any company who makes a product, not just gaming companies. People who make food or clothes or other things should be going about their business the same way. If their customers didn't like a product, listen to what they say is wrong with it and fix it. I've seen enough Nintendo fans wanting Nintendo to listen to us more...

The fact they waited so long to make it was a major reason as was marketing. Dark Dawn received fairly positive reviews overall, but almost no one bought it, because the fanbase was unaware for the most part that there was a new game until it was too late.

Sure fan reception was mixed at best when they did finally find out about it, but the fact that it was just sent out and barely anyone knew about it was a huge flaw,

I've read that Sticker Star is actually the most well-received (or the most selling) Paper Mario game in Japan. Not sure how true it is, but if that is the case, it's a common thought that the Japanese fanbase is the only one that matters. It's not, but it sure does feel like it sometimes. :V

Sticker Star sold about 11,000 more copies than Super Paper Mario in Japan, but internationally the sales were drastically lower than SPM. Paper Mario really isn't a very good franchise to use an example for the Japanese fandom mattering more than the international, since in Japan the series is generally not highly thought of, and a lot of the humor it's well known for is actually because the localization team completely rewrites the games. I think the only reason it's getting another game is that it still sold over 2 million copies, even if that's a drastic drop from the 4 million+ that SPM sold.

Anyway, I play a lot of mobile games with optional P2P stuff. As long as it isn't obnoxious or like, "buy 12 gems to move this character" it should be fine. I'm also hoping there won't be characters locked behind a paywall but I'm thinking gaiden chapters/map packs will be a thing.
