Phoenix
No objections, none Brant overheard over the comms at least, and the Captain seemed to endorse the idea, as well. She didn't waste any time in listing off their specified targets. Brant was only a little surprised to hear her speaking with so much confidence. He supposed his pep talk hadn't been that needful after all. She'd be fine whenever it was time for her to do her actual job, at least from the sound of things. Brant made a mental note of the targets assigned to him, targets seven and eight, and waited for his turn to take off. Once he'd taxied onto the runway, he pushed the engines nearly to max power and rocketed down the runway before launching nearly straight up into the sky. It was a rough but exhilarating feeling he never grew tired of. Once he was airborne, he had a clear view of all the targets. Twice as many of them as the team, just like he'd expected. He did a quick scan to identify his own targets, and then began tapping the display selecting every other target in range. "And null," Brant smirked as the targets went from an orange red hue to a dull yellow one. The IFF had just marked them all as dangerous neutrals. His weapon systems could no longer target any of them without an override. "No mistakes. Now for the first target ..." Mark Seven was definitely closer, but still just barely outside the range of his spread missiles, the weapons he would prefer to use against a stationary ground target. His second and only other reasonable choice was the beam rifle, but it would take some quick adjustments to land a solid hit on the target. He started the charge up sequence and lined up the tank. Next, he started shifting power from the engines into the beam rifle, just enough to give it the extra range it needed. He double checked his target's position ... and fired. Brant moves to 10,9, activates Snipe, and attacks Mark #7 with the Beam Rifle. Edited June 13, 2016 by Phoenix
scorri
Astin smiled slightly as the familiar sense of calm surrounded them. This was what they were meant to be doing. Sure the return fire had hit, but it'd hardly done enough damage to worry about. It was worth it for the damage they'd dealt in return. It would still be better to keep on guard and try and avoid them, but it wasn't a huge worry. Now to just deal with their counters... Ether
"Tch..." Kim lightly managed, her shot just off point... it had connected with the target, but hadn't quite taken out it's main cannon. A swiftly executed low-altitude aileron roll was more than enough to evade the return fire at any rate, the shell completely off it's mark. All that was left to do was to assess the incoming fire and respond accordingly... it appeared that even though her blow had been slightly off-centre, another body shot would be enough to take the Ai controlled tank out. Terrador
Bruno checks his monitor after a lucky dodge; Steel-2 had yet to move. He tabs on his microphone, though not privately, as he would prefer. The boy had trouble working with people; best to help keep him centered, while the pressure was off. "Tarquin. Phoenix
Brant had shifted enough power to the beam rifle to hit his target, but not destroy it outright. That would have been fine, but the AI got off a shot before full power returned to the engines. Brant was a quarter ways into a banking maneuver to avoid the very shot that came barreling in. It would have only put a decent sized hole through the wing if not for the missile it struck on the way through. Most of the plating covering the left wing were blown clean off, leaving a charred skeletal structure in their place, and only a few unscathed missiles on the left side of the aircraft. First thing was first. "This is Stealth One, I'm alright. He set off one of my missiles with that shot but the wing's still in tact." He was damn lucky, really. The control surfaces were all still working, somehow. If those had gone, his maneuverability would have been far too unreliable for him to continue. He recalled that Steel Four was the one with a repair module. He wasn't particularly close by, but Brant could still reach him soon enough. Whether he'd be too busy to help him or not depended on his own priorities. "Hey, Steel Four, can we rendezvous just northeast of the airstrip? I'm bound to lose this wing at some point without a quick patch. Over." As for his own targets ... well, they were still marked, and both looked like they were closing in on him. He had a couple of tricks ready for them ... and Mark Seven was going to be a smoking crater soon anyway if Brant timed his next series of maneuvers just right. Balcerzak
"I don't mind at all, Captain. I'll gladly coordinate the efforts here on the ground level upon completion of phase one," Thorvald gave the affirmative. Brant's plan was now officially sanctioned, which was a welcome development. That said, it did sound like she only wanted him to begin rendering assistance after a certain point, which while currently unclear, would likely become obvious when the time was right. Following the captain's little speech, and subsequent nervous addendum (so not even the mothership can monitor chatter on the private comms, huh?), he lead the group out to their respective deployment positions, and waited for the official start to the engagement. A few of the mech darted off right after the figurative starting pistol was fired, but Thorvald took a moment to consider his options. His targets were a hair out of range from where he could feasibly close with the sword, his beam cannon was still warming up, and there was no point blowing chaff at these enemies. So it was down to the gatlings or the shotgun. He reckoned a dead-on hit from the shotgun should just about do in an enemy of this caliber and he could probably pull something like that off maybe one time in three, but it would also have a much higher potential to go wide entirely, perhaps even a full quarter of the time. On the other hand, the gatlings were as near to a sure thing as physically possible, but he'd have to make sure to alternate his focus and wear them both down simultaneously to keep things moving at a timely pace. This is phase one, might as well take it slow and steady. There's no need to try for a flashy finish and make the fool of myself, especially with the added pressure of leading the squad. Thorvald to 15,7, fires Wrist Gatlings at AI 14. [spoiler=have an unofficial positions update] Edited June 13, 2016 by Balcerzak
Shin
It was nothing to worry about, this was essentially a solo simulation. Computerised targets, no ally interference, he was in his home environment. The situation was no different to a game of chess, Tarquin just needed to pick the right moves. The enemy weren't exactly fearsome, they were limited in both their movement and their firepower. He had a few options, taking them out in one shot wasn't going to be an easy feat. Bruno's words had almost gone unheard, Tarquin's own evaluation of his enemies had trumped it. Their main cannons were more potent than their guns, but positioning himself correctly would allow him to force their hand in making a poor decision. Tarquin moves to 12,9 and attacks #12 with his Revolver!
SB.
Mateus' fingers itched as he listened to the captain's explanation over the comms. Most of it washed over him, but he got the gist of it. The third and fourth targets were both his. It looked to be controlled chaos, which while a little disappointing, made perfect sense. "Orders confirmed." he muttered, sending his robot surging forward. It didn't take long though before a call for help came through though. Already? He frowned. "Aid incoming, Stealth 1." He didn't really want to fly all the way over there and ignore his targets, so instead he sent out an energy shield to make sure Brant would be fine. By the time this action had been completed, he was getting close enough to face the enemy. He wasn't quite close enough to brawl it out in melee, but the enemy was still in range of one of his weapons. "Engaging." He announced, firing the projectile towards the closest enemy. Trust Brant. She put maximum power into her cannons to take out the tanks harassing her, watching the explosions light up her screen. Her smile soon faded, as she saw that one of them was still functional. But that was fine, they weren't gonna last long after her next attack. "Giant-3 reporting. Almost done over here." This was pretty easy... She felt a little let down. Phoenix
The barrier wasn't going to fix the wing damage, but at least it wouldn't get any worse. "That works, too. Thanks." Brant had the effective range and responsiveness of that main cannon figured out, now, which made dodging the second shot easier. It was still a close call, though; he winced as a the shot whistled by his cockpit. As he came on a low approach, Brant locked onto Mark Seven and switched to one of the spread missiles on his left wing that had survived the explosion. He was hoping he'd be able to 'avenge' the left wing by using one of its missiles to destroy Mark Seven. Even before he hit the button to fire it, he could feel something was wrong. An error popped up on the display as he closed in on Mark Seven's position. "Jammed," Brant chuckled. "That's alright," he shrugged. He brought up that exact missile and pylon data with his left hand and pulled up hard with the right, sending the Accensus screaming over the tank at high speed and shooting back into the sky. The main monitor showed some damage to the hardpoint, itself, as well as the missile, though the former was the real issue. Brant had two main options, he knew. One, he could use a different missile, one on the right side, preferably, or he could finagle something with the damaged one. He chose the latter, and not just to show off, though if he didn't screw it up, that would certainly be the impression. The fact was, if this missile took a hit like the other one had, it could do series damage to the fuselage given it's far closer proximity to it. He might even be forced to eject then and there. If he was going to have to ditch the thing either way ... he might as well make sure it got to do its job. Brant rearmed the missile as he reached the top of his climb, and flipped the Accensus over, causing its nose to point straight down toward Mark Seven. "You know what happens now, mudak~" Since he couldn't detach the missile from the pylon, he bypassed a couple of safeties as quickly as he could, and detached them both together. As he pitched upward, pulling out of the nosedive, the free falling missile came down hard on Mark Seven, blowing it to pieces. Brant felt the tremor from the blast as it caught up to him. Spread missiles were designed to saturate an area, not go off all at once while still packed into the main shell. Fortunately, all that firepower made up for the missile's drastically decreased speed. Before Brant had time to sigh in relief, he saw bullets coming at him from Mark Eight. He was too low to the ground to simply weave through enemy fire, so he started using the uneven terrain to his advantage, disappearing behind rock formations and low hills until he had circled Mark Eight. As he came out from hiding, his FCS locked onto Mark Eight and Brant armed another spread missile. He fired, and without waiting to see the results of the attack, he pulled up back into the sky, to get to a comfortable distance from the tank and its anti-air fire. "It's tough, but you should let them handle themselves for now. Unless someone is in serious danger, interfering at this stage will likely only harm growth. Ether
"Very well. Idling, over." Seung-Min replied, setting her Velite down on the ground, observing the other pilots more closely. It seemed that Brant was attempting to compensate for a rather bad hit he had taken earlier on, and was doing so with marginal levels of success... he had managed to eliminate one target and had yet to be shot down, at the very least.
