it isn't official

which is strange since Sonic's official twitter is always cracking jokes at the franchise's own expense (spense? idr which is the right one), which is still good for them since it attracts even the grumpiest fans

Ah, darn haha. Still amazing though, I'm looking forward to seeing Tails and Knuckles 2D styles back in action, playing as Tails in the PC port of CD was really fun.

I'm looking forward playing with them on the remixed stages. I mean, we have the Sonic [X] & Knuckles games, but he easily broke Sonic 1 and it was strange to play as him on Sonic 2.

To be honest, I'd like a game with a similar gameplay and character rooster to the Advance series. Cream may just be a Tails with a chao gameplay wise, but I guess adding Amy and Shadow could make things interesting.

After seeing that trailer, I feel like replaying Sonic 1 Megamix...

btw, about your sig, it's funny how Sonic plagiarized SSJ Goku only for SSG Goku to plagiarize Hyper Sonic

Advance did the alternate characters really well! I can't wait to see the remixed stages. Oh yeah Megamix is great, I should do another run of that myself.

Haha, I'm a huge fan of both series, what can I say, they emulate I mean Pokemon decided Frieza had a cool design too haha.

Also a side note for Mania, the person doing the music is Tee Lopes, who was working on the fan project Sonic 2HD awhile ago, now he's doing music for Sega, I think thats really cool.

Now that I think about it. It's kind of funny that a Sonic game got announced to the NX, a Nintendo console, before a Mario game.

I'm amused at this as well, also slightly off topic, but Koei-Tecmo is rumored to be working on an NX game as well which i'm excited for, but thats another story.

Man, I just wanna get my hands on Mania and Project 2017.

Rodea plays nothing like an Adventure title. The only similarity is that Yuji Naka worked on them.

Friendo, did you even read my review of Rodea? I have not played any game closer to SA. Almost every element that I expect in a SA title is in Rodea, bar the flying mechanic.

In fact, I dare you to name a game that even closer to SA.

I've played it, I didn't get a single similar to Sonic Adventure vibe, Rodea feels nothing close to Sonic, he flies, has various gear modes and has long ranged combat, that and you're more focused on taking enemies out and puzzles.

Sonic Adventure and by extension SA2, had various gameplay styles, Sonic was basically his 2D games style in 3D with the new homing attack and a very awesome spindash, speed was the focus. Tails focused on speed running, Knuckles focused on exploration, Amy focused on slower platforming/puzzles and avoidance, Big focused Fishing, Gamma focused shooty mcbangbang. Of course SA2 used the 3 most popular of these styles for their two trios.

But what vague similarities do exist, are merely that, vague similarities which makes sense granted its the same creator, but they don't have the same feel at all. I don't think I can name a game close to the SA games in style, because they were very much their own thing.

Why don't you make a list - tell me all of the things you like in Sonic Adventure.

Do you like...

...the speed and freedom of movement?

...the speedrunning?

...collecting the rings, and the light-speed dash?

...the homing attacks into robots to destroy them?

...the spinning dash move to go faster?

...exploring and maybe finding some hidden item capsules?

All of those things are in Rodea. Don't get me wrong, it has its own charms as well, but a lot of what I like in the gameplay is straight-up Sonic Adventure.

Personally, I really want Stardust Speedway.

The Metal Sonic Race felt really unique in that it seemed designed in such a way to always be neck and neck

1. Uphill slopes that lead right into an aerial platform to stop your momentum

2. Spikes or dips in terrain that are placed in areas where you would normally pick up speed.

3. The aerial platforms that provide an advantage, but not so much that the race isn't still close

4. Dr. Robotnik right behind you with a one-hit KO laser regardless of rings

Special shoutout to Jedi for his icon tipping me off

Haha, np for the tip off.

Stages I'd like to see back, heck if they can put all the Sonic 1, 2, 3&K and CD stages in I'd be so glad, along with original stuff, but if I had to pick one or so from each game in particular?

Sonic 1: Marble Zone, because its pretty fun overall to speed run when you know the lay of it, and I also think its pretty unique for Sonic.

Sonic 2: Chemical Plant or Aquatic Ruin

3&K: Hydrocity, Icecap, Flying Battery, in particular.

CD: Tidal Tempest.

Flying Battery would be solid just because of stage variability (platforming across the sky through nets, the earthquake end boss, etc)

Chemical Plant has some interesting remake options, especially with the boss. Could easily change up the patterns and add twists that would make for a fun battle.

On a separate note, do you guys think Knuckles will get unique routes like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles? I'm really hoping he does and that it's treated somewhat like a hard mode like before.

I'm honestly excited to see if like in Sonic Mania, Sonic having access to like his Insta Shield and Super Peel Out techniques in all the stages including the ones before he got those moves (Super Peel Out is kind of redundant as hell with the spindash but its still cool for no reason)

The new Drop Dash looks quite nice for gaining speed, dropping instantly into a spindash is like a speed running technique in Unleashed/Colors/Generations from Modern Sonic in a way, where you'd stomp the ground then Boost.

As for zones that I'd like to see again:

Sonic 1: Starlight Zone

Sonic 2: Casino Night, Aquatic Ruin, Hill Top, Wing Fortress

Sonic 3: Angel Island, Hidrocity, Icecap, Mushroom Hill, Flying Battery,

Sonic 3D Blast: Volcano Valley, Diamond Dust, Gene Gadget

Sonic CD: The second stage (I forgot its name. iirc, it's Collision Chaos).
