Al-Cid also, unlike most units with unique jobs in this game (Vaan, Penelo, Adelle, Hurdy, and possibly others), cannot reclass. (Much like three of the postgame characters in FFTA.)

So he is stuck in a dreadful job with naught but Items as his secondary A-ability, and can't learn additional R- or P-abilities.

Al-Cid is quite likely the single worst recruitable character in FFTA2, including generics. He likely has some niche relating to buffing a team full of broken Viera job combinations, but honestly even then you'd be better served by bringing someone else.

I legitimately don't understand why Al-Cid can't reclass. Like, I can kind of understand why Hurdy and Montblanc can't become Chocobo Knights (they were too lazy to make models for them, I guess?), but were they worried that Guns would be too good with any of the Hume skillsets?

Every quest from here on out is important - well, for the most part.

But, of course, you remember the Lethean Draught.

Maquis is unarmed, but does at least have his old shield and thus 35% evasion. He has, however, forgotten every skill (bar Shieldbearer) he had.

No match for even five rabbits.

It's easy enough.

Duelhorn's subquest isn't quite over yet. Even if Duelhorn are.

Maquis is going to die.

Well, alright, then. The enemy's well-equipped but underlevelled (around 38-40). Funnily enough... we can actually take out Montblanc. But I'll be nice.

By the way, the enemy Viera archer is more or less identical to the allied.

In any case, I feel as though this was avoidable.

They waste us with some early pressure - they all move first - buuuut they just do not have the power, and we do.

Fras doesn't have the same privileges and instead tries to blind someone immune to status.

Everything's coming up Worms.

It's probably pretty fitting that Montblanc gets the kill here, and it's definitely fitting that these half-baked cheaters are terrible at fighting. It's a weird and unnecessary FFTA throwback - just like Montblanc's entire presence in the game.

Clan Centurio plays a very minor role in FFTA2, as well. However, one of the later missions in FFTA involves a female Moogle pretending to have a crush on Montblanc in order get back at him for something (it's been a while, I don't remember what exactly), which is what I believe this mission is referencing.

What role does Centurio play in FFTA2? (Besides being a topic of discussion between FFXII characters.)

And yeah, I knew about the "A Bride for Montblanc" mission in FFTA, it was weird af. I don't even think they specified why they were pissed at Montblanc at all.

Weird. Sure that's not the last we'll be hearing of them.

But there's one last thing before this ends. So the guys hanging around Guinness have changed as the game's progressed. But now? In the postgame?

Archmage is used by some not-quite-boss enemies in postgame content (maybe lategame as well?). I think they're all monsters.

So this tournament is more or less against the All-Stars. I don't think it's proper postgame, either, but. Still.

Five rounds, you'll note.

Camoa Braves aren't so tough. Alright gear, kind of underlevelled, pretty basic skillsets. For our part, using mana is forbidden, leading us to a brute squad.

The result is pretty inevitable.

I like this Cup because of the feeling that there is attrition picking off your enemies, too. You don't get a chance to heal between fights, so...

Anyway, the 100 Geniuses can't be that bright, they can't even count how many clan members they've got.

Their damage potential's kind of undercut when they only get two actions off. Lots of disappointed magi in the audience...

Arbiters might prove a bit tougher, despite the fact that, yet again, four level 15s beat up like 20 of them. It's implied they're adjudged.

Basically the entire crowd's with us this stage. Now, admittedly, the Arbiters were a bit tougher - they have a decent side, objectively speaking, and had the dragoon landed a jump he would've killed Adelle outright. But you could tell destiny was on our side. We made use of two Opportunity commands, for fuck's sake!

Anyway this is where the update stood two weeks ago and now, many mental health issues later, here I am to finish it off.

Fun fact: despite being levels 46-50, every member of our party is faster than Snakeheart. Pyrrh and Lawrn are the slowest at 75, Nathala's 76.

Okay no for real I've defended FFTA2's writing more than anyone else on this planet but every part of Snakeheart is lazily-written garbage and I just want him to die.

And... that's where it ends, for now.

So this has now secured Duelhorn's ability to be a mirror us. It might even - though this is probably unintentional - mirror their new triumvirate with our own (Guinness/Cid/Adelle).

To stretch further, this is kind of reminiscent of Guinness needing to fill his journal/the Grimoire with memories.

And then, as they're leaving, a white mage comes to run after them...

And, I think, that's it for the main body of the game. The last loose end cleared up.

Bluntly, 300 quests will take a lot of busy work I can't be bothered with. However, there's a few easily-reached, very clearly endgame material things... and I think that's the real reward for getting this far.
