Chapter 14 4/26

Matthew killed the East soldiers, Eliwood killed the soldier on the way to Erk then went south to kill the pirates, or as I like to call them, "the bandits of the sea".

Marcus carried Hector west, then dropped him. Hector doubled back while Marcus cleaned up the west and the bandits, or as I like to call them, "the pirates of the land".

After Erik ran forward on turn 2 to almost suicide on Marcus, Eliwood was in his range turn 3 EP so he got the bosskill.

Chapter 15 7/33

Fed Eliwood the boss. Hector guarded throne. Matthew treasure. Marcus.

Chapter 16 5/38

Marcus ran around the mountain while Matt got the Red Gem and the others self-improved.

How did I end up with no fliers when I bid the most for Florina?

Not sure if real question or rhetorical lament, but the answer is because you losing Florina at the point that you did was the smallest change the system could make at that time to lower your team size. Any other change would violate the players' reported preferences even more. Copy-pasting the process section:

We can see the next biggest move possible for you would be losing Farina, at a difference of 0.9. Florina gets moved first because, among units on overfilled teams, that shift was the smallest. We can see, in general, that you lost units in order of bid differential. In other words, while you bid most on Florina, relative to others you only valued her a little more. Relative to others, you valued Canas the most, at +4.9 compared to the next person, Horace.

By the way, Farina from me to Baldrick appears to go out of order, but that's because my team had just become overfilled at that point: before getting Kent, my team size was 8, so the differential from my Farina bid to Baldrick's Farina bid was not considered.

Just FYI, Priscilla is gaining 21 EXP per heal. I guess I applied that patch and then forgot about it. Since I have Pent, I don't think her being stronger will make much difference, but still, what do?

I don't want to tell anyone else how to play, especially when my answer is the less fun option, but since you asked, if it were me I would unpatch/get an unpatched game and replay. Unfortunately she already got a level up it seems, and the rng sequence will probably get all screwed up so I doubt exactly repeating what you did the first time will work.

CHAPTER 18 - 3/51 TURNS
Promoted Lowen, then didn't actually need to in the end, whoops. Oh well. Gave him a secret book to help with his awful skill. He killed the boss, could have on turn 2 if another unit could have killed a shaman in the way, in retrospect should have got Bartre to level 10 and promoted him for this map, oops. Everyone got exp I guess.

Fiora pure watered and flew across the mountains to receive and exp goldmine. She Javelin'd Aion on the turn before Kishuna showed up to get some chip on him so Lowen could kill him with the silver lance. Bartre got the goddess icon.

Hammer!Lowen left Darin with 3 HP after a PP hit and a EP hit, so Fiora could get the bosskill which is cool. Lyn got another chest key, Oswin got the Brave Bow. Lowen actually got a good level too!

Lowen rescued Hector ahead then got danced and dropped Hector south along the wall to aggro the boss. Lowen got the Elysian whip on turn 2, Hector chipped the boss again allowing Fiora to finish the job after being danced. Other got villages and did shopping.

CHAPTER 22 - 3/69 TURNS
Lowen went for the boss, Fiora flew down the middle, and that was it really. Recruited Heath for the Axereaver.
CHAPTER 23 - 3/72 TURNS
Dudes went up the right side (mainly Bartre and the archers) to get lots of exp. Deployed Florina and Heath to get the Body Ring and Filla's might. Fiora used Isadora's robe and flew and weakend the first boss for Pent to kill, then she killed the second one on her own. Bartre and Wil were so underlevelled I got Genesis! Also gave Fiora both Goddess icons I had lying around to boost her avoid a bit. She's really good, unlike Lowen.
CHAPTER 23X - 20 FREE TURNS
Had Hector and Oswin tank mages for the last few turns to Serra could staff spam. Got all the chests and loads of exp for Rebecca, she needs it to kill Lloyd next map.

I also just noticed my game had Ninian's starting level set to 7, I had previously tested to see if you could unlock 19xx by just setting Ninian's base level to 7, and I guess it was this rom. Her stats are exactly the same as her level 1 bases though so it should affect nothing.
CHAPTER 24 - 1/73 TURNS
Rebecca brave bow'd Lloyd.
CHAPTER 25 - 3/76 TURNS
Promoted Serra and Fiora. Serra went south with Ninian and Rebecca, and got loads of levels thanks to bishop exp bonus. Bartre, Hector, Lyn, Lowen and Wil went to seize Pascal's castle and Fiora flew it solo to the mage castle. Wil had to chip a fort Cavalier so Bartre could kill it with the ballista which was kinda depressing. Lyn + Hector combined for the kill on Pascal.

I probably couldn't retrace my steps anyway. I just did what Horace said, and altered her exp back to 4.00 to minimize any advantage.

Chapter 17 11/49

Matthew and Priscilla couldn't survive the corridor of death, so they hung back while the lords charged. Eliwood killed the thief for the Knight Crest, it wasn't until after I remembered I had no use for it.

Chapter 17x 6/55

Eliwood could survive the mooncalf route, but he can't kill stuff and got bogged down so I took the upper route.

Chapter 18 3/58

Priscilla gave Hector a boost.

Chapter 19 6/64

Priscilla rescued Dart forward, and Hector dropped him. After that it was a charge to Uhai.

Chapter 26: Defense/102

Yawn. Had people work on their weapon ranks since they had nothing better to do. Rath reached D Swords, Isadora reached A Lances and C Axes, Erk reached D Staves. Lucius is like 1 Barrier Staff use away from B Staves. Hawkeye got killer weapons from the shop since he's the only one tanky enough to take hits from Vaida without dying. Canas almost reached level 20, but not quite.

Had to take an extra turn to get the Guiding Ring... again. Did a cute trick on the last turn by sending the Guiding Ring to the convoy so Canas could promote on the last turn so that Erk could get an extra Mend use in.

Chapter 28: Defense/123

Got all the treasure. Rath killed Ursula on Turn 6 so I spent the later half of the chapter spamming Torch to build Erk's Staff Rank. He and Lucius are almost to A Staves.

Ch13x - The Peddler Merlinus: 7/24 turns

I don't think I'm gonna need to burn any Rns this time, so I'll just stop recording them unless that changes. Guy camped the southeast. Marcus took a trip to the village and came back to assist Hector. Hector took the boss kill.

Ch14 - False Friends: 4/28 turns

Erk stayed green 'til the last turn so he could kill a knight. Guy only got to kill the initial soldiers in the east sadly. Marcus absorbed nearly all of the kills this time.

Ch15 - Talons Alight: 7/35 turns

Gave Hector Erk's Goddess Icon. Left Sealen alive as long as possible to farm the reinforcements. Hector did most of the killing in the south. Marcus sat on the throne, and Guy killed the thief and took the Silver Axe.

Guy proced Luck 4/4 times with a 45 growth and Str 3/4 with a 30 growth. Not bad. He got 0 def or res though. Hector's speed has gotten fairly good too, with an effective ~53 growth (35 actual growth)

So I'm looking at 32x and it doesn't look like Renault can Warp far enough. 7 range is needed and his Magic is 12. Are there any Energy Rings in Hector Mode? Otherwise I'll need to take a Pent penalty...Renault, why are you so weak?

Chapter 28x: Free

Built weapon ranks again. Erk and Lucius both reached A Staves, Rath reached C Swords, and Isadora reached S Lances. Hawkeye carried Hector to the throne, picking up the speedwings on the way and managed to proc enough strength to OHKO Sonia with a Killer Axe crit.

Chapter 29: 4/127

Rath went left to get the Warp Staff. Erk, Lucius, and Hakweye went up the middle to deal with the thwomps. Canas and Dorcas killed enemies near the start and then killed Vaida's reinforcement wyverns. Isadora charged ahead and killed most of the map including Linus, whom she 6HKOed with the Brave Lance between player phase and enemy phase. She needed to dodge a 50 displayed hit attack from Linus cause she was out of Erk's Physic Staff range.

Chapter 30: 3/130

Erk warped Boots!Rath carrying Hector across the map. Rath needed to get a crit with the Killing Edge at 41 crit to kill the boss, but he has two chances since he easily doubles.

Chapter 32: 3/149

Hector used a Pure Water and was rescued by Dorcas. Rath took Hector from Dorcas and also used a Pure Water. Erk then Warped Rath ahead twice with Nils' help. Vaida went up. Turn 2, Vaida kills a sniper with a javelin, Erk moves up and Rescues Nils, who dances Erk. Erk then moves up and Warps Rath near Limstella and he drops Hector in front of her with a Killer Axe equipped. Hector has to get a hit + crit with the Killer Axe to bring Limstella down to low enough HP that Rath can finish her off next turn with 4 hits from the Brave Bow. On enemy phase, Vaida kills like 12 enemies, reaching level 20 and getting S Lances. Erk also kills a bunch of enemies. On Turn 3, Rath finishes Limstella off, Lucius Hammernes the Warp Staff, and Hector seizes. Filla's Might Rath gets Warped over and he crits the boss. He actually doubles Kishuna so it's not too unreliable, but he crit on the first attack anyways.

Gave Athos the Body Ring to double Nergal and the Fire Dragon and gave Canas the speedwings to double Ursula with Luna.

Isadora takes Brendan's room, Hector takes Darin's, Vaida opens Jerme's room then cantos out of the way and Canas moves in front of the door to his room. Erk Warps Hawkeye up to Kenneth's room. Rath opens the door to Lloyd's room, gets Rescued by Lucius, danced by Nils, and then kills Uhai with a Killer Bow crit + hit. Athos Berserks Lloyd.

On enemy phase, surprisingly, the only crit that needs to happen is Lloyd critting Linus. On Turn 2, Canas kills Jerme with a Luna crit, Rath kills Darin with the Rienfleche, Hector kills the generic Thwomp, Vaida kills the generic Sniper in Uhai's room, Erk kills Brendan with Bolting, Isadora kills the generic Warrior with the Brave Lance, Lucius kills Lloyd, and Hawkeye kills the Bolting Sage. Nils then dances Erk and Erk Warps Athos up to Nergal who dies on enemy phase to Aureola.

i hate this chapter. Bought some tomes for Serra and some killer weapons. Bartre and Oswin will probably promote. I think I missed an Orions Bolt or sold it by accident, Wil has to be a shitty archer for a while longer. And I do mean shitty.

Chapter 16 - Noble Lady of Caelin: 4/39 turns

If Florina was the juggernaut she will need to become, I could do it in 3. Luckily, she doesn't need to even dodge a ballista since the archer attacks Kent. So long Marcus, too bad we can't bring you on the next map.

Chapter 17 - Whereabouts unknown: 10/49 turns

Ugh, Kent, Sain, and Florina just aren't strong enough right now. Considering Horace did this in 8 turns with Lowen, I'm disappointed I couldn't do it in 9 at least. There's a massive clog with the archers and nomads, made more complicated by getting Priscilla to Raven safely and not killing the chest key archer through the wall. Guy unlocks the Hero's Crest and Matthew the Knight's Crest.

Chapter 17x - The Port of Badon: 3/52 turns

Last chapter Kent got knocked down to 1HP, this time it's Sain. Rather than pick up Sleep and the Short Bow, which would only really pad my funds rank, I used the last turn for some more exp. Got Canas for his book of course.

CHAPTER 29 - 4/111 TURNS

Could kill all the enemies in three turns but couldn't get warp :<

Boots to BARTRE. I swear I know what I'm doing. Serra rescued Ninian ahead on turn 1 and Lowen carrying Fiora dumped her ahead so she could engage Linus on turn 3. Lowen then went and got the boots, while fighting most of the middle of the map. Serra went north with Lyn and level capped, while Hector stayed at the start with Oswin to recruit Vaida. Wil, uh wasn't deployed and Rebecca killed a Myrm or two.

CHAPTER 30 - 3/114 TURNS

Bartre ate the body ring from the desert so he could carry Hector. Serra warped him ahead 6 spaces on turn 1 then warped them again on turn 2, allowing Bartre to counter the boss on turn 2 then finish him on turn 3 (even though he OHKO'd with a killer crit anyway.....). Held onto the speedwing since he was one speed off doubling the boss with it anyway.

Used 4 warps. Bartre rescued Hector on turn 1, got warped ahead by Serra twice with the help of Nils. Serra warped Fiora ahead in range of Renault's village on turn 2, then got danced to warp Bartre and Hector ahead. They tag teamed Limstella.

Renault Hammerned Warp and Rescue, and Serra Warped Bartre in for the bosskill.

CHAPTER FINAL PART 1 - 2/136 TURNS

Fiora opened Brendan's door, then was danced to open Kenneth's. Lowen opened Darin's Door, and Bartre moved in to deal with him. Serra warped Lyn up to Lloyd and she opened the door, and Renault rescued her away. Rebecca killed Uhai with the Brave Bow, then tossed it so she'd kill the two snipers on the EP with the Longbow. Oswin dealt with Jerme and Ursula, Ursula was forced to attack him at 1 range since Jerme attacked from range, and he killer critted her. Hector killed a generic warrior and chipped Brendan. Fiora killed Kenneth and the Gespenst guy, Bartre killed Darin and his thwomp, and Lloyd killed Linus. On turn 2, Oswin killed Jerme with the help of Rebecca, and Bartre and Hector tag teamed Brendan, Lyn and Lowen killed Lloyd, somehow, and Fiora killed the Bolting sage. Nils Fillas'd Athos and Serra warped him to ORKO Nergal with Luna.

CHAPTER FINAL PART 2 - 1/137 + 35.47 = 172.47 turns

Filla's might'd Athos, and he killed the dragon on the EP after being Recovered by Serra.

UNIT PERFORMANCE:

Hector - He was really slow. So slow that he failed to double Limstella. Yeah. Fourtunately, he was still Hector, and did well early on.

Serra - Warper/10. Early promotion hurt her magic a bit, but I don't think I lost any turns by having her as a warper, even with a ghetto Hector Ferry.

Oswin - Saved a turn in chapter 16 by being able to rescue Hector. Otherwise did nothing because I had so many early units, and Marcus is free. Can we make him not free in HNM drafts? He devalues all the early units so much, I think I only saved one turn by having all the units I did early, which is ridiculous (not counting Carmine's 5% crit on Zagan). He might have been more useful if I didnt have so many early units.

Lowen - His SUPER LAME STRENGTH cost me a turn on Uhai. Thankfully, his SUPER LAME STRENGTH was still good enough for most of the game. Probably could have saved a turn in Cog of Destiny if he could kill Linus instead of Fiora, since she'd be able to get warp, but c'est la vie. Still saved a turn or 2 by being super overlevelled compared to other mounts in Chapter 17.

Rebecca - Bid higher on her because I wanted a Brave Bow user to save a turn on Lloyd's Four Fanged offence. Turns out I got both Snipers and there was only one promo item for them. Good offence helped in final.

Bartre - I had to sandbag him super hard early so i'd get Kenneth's map. I don't think early promoting him would have saved any turns though. Lategame he turned out to be pretty valuable, since with the boots he was an 8 move Hector ferry, which turned out to be more than adequate.

Karla - She fought in the arena 4 times. Perfect winrate! Didn't make the final chapter :(

Lyn - I bid a bit higher on her since she's a free deploy in endgame. I think she helped save a turn since my team was challenged movement wise, and combatwise.

Wil - Wil sucks, but my Wil was on another level. He managed to be -5 strength and -6 skill by 20/1. That takes talent.

Fiora - Did flying things. Ended up being really strength blessed, which probably let me get Genesis since I didn't have to promote her in the desert. Only bad thing about her is her extra point of con doesn't let her rescue Hector.

I imagine it would work in a draft of any game. Bidding in FE4 would be a lot more weighted towards the mothers though (since you get three units) and there's the issue of getting a kid and a sub of the same kid (like getting Lester and Dimna), although if one got Lester I guess the bid for Dimna could be discarded.

I've come back and finished this one. I added something to the videos: from Ch25 onward, the damage, true hit, and crit rates of each combat will show up on screen. Unfortunately there's audio/visual desync. I'm not an expert at OBS so if anyone knows how to fix that it would be much appreciated.

Ideally the values would converge to create a close finish if the handicaps were better. For example, if I had -10 handicap and Carmine and Baldrick had -20, it would look like this:

A more exciting finish, wouldn't you say? Especially considering the tick marks on this graph are 2 turns, not 5. Next time I think the values will be closer. There were still large discrepancies in bids for several units this time.

Hector was stuck at level 20 for so long. Having to wait til the Shrine of Seals to promote like Roy is a pain, although Hector is really good even before this. It's also annoying that he gains no move upon promotion and becomes so obese.

Guy was not that useful for a long time, initially costing a turn to even recruit him, but he was a great boss killer. Killing Lloyd in one turn without the Brave Bow was cool, albeit possible only due to Lloyd moving before any other units on EP. But many units can be effective boss killers. Any unit with decent stats and a killing weapon probably could have done Guy's job. At least I only paid 1.2 for him, but I would rather have any of the Chapter 12 units except Rebecca.

Florina was, of course, awesome. 10 move, flying, and able to carry promoted Hector. She saved turns in too many places to list. I would say she was definitely worth 11.38. She even leveled up strength really well. For a long time she had more strength than Sain.

Kent and Sain were pretty interchangeable, Horse/10 units. 8.3 and 8.2 prices seem alright, maybe a little too high. Their combat capabilities in Whereabouts Unknown were weak as hell, and the absence of Marcus was sorely felt. They were actually able to reach B support. There are too many chapters where you can sit around doing nothing.

Raven was able to promote in time to avoid giving yet another boss kill to level 20 Hector at Dragon's Gate. His combat abilities were great. 2.2 might have been too high though, he was just Guy who trades 15% crit and slightly earlier join time for axes.

Silencer made Legault surprisingly easy to level in the late game, but other than perhaps increasing reliability of kills in Light, what were those levels even in service of? He stole some items and provided thief vision range. I don't think he was really worth 1.2, considering that, like Guy, he cost me a turn to even recruit.

The Ice Dragon twins did their usual work. I could have spammed rings more to gain exp, since 15 uses of Ninis and Filla are more than enough, but levels on dancers don't matter much. They were only in 3 battles.

Like Guy, Louise got to do something flashy by killing Vaida, but she didn't achieve much that most units couldn't. 1.13 was definitely too much. Actually I don't know what I was thinking, bidding more on her than Lyn. At least Lyn joins early, adds an extra character on Final, and can even promote on the chapter Louise appears for good measure.

Yippee, a 3rd Swordmaster/Assassin. Super redundant at this point. He did pretty much nothing Legault couldn't have. Got cut from the team for Final. Not worth 1.2. Interesting note, both he and Legault failed to reach S rank swords. Oddly, the only non-prf swords that provide more than 1 Wexp are the Lancereaver and Blades, and Blades are sold only in a secret shop, so leveling sword rank is a bit tough. In theory +5 crit would actually be really nice for an Assassin.

Renault was a surprising savior, stemming the bleeding from my lack of any staff users and keeping post-Warp turn loss to a minimum. In fact, if you told me that I would not get any other staff users, I would definitely rank Renault over Jaffar, Louise, and even Legault.

Some thoughts after my first HMN LTC:

There are too many defend chapters. They're not only boring, they're antithetical to TLC play itself. Instead of counting the last Player Phase, why not count the last Enemy Phase? That is, make them into Rout maps.

I also don't like the rule that undrafted thieves can steal "necessary" promotion items. How many of these are there? Well there are four stealable ones, but I don't think any necessary ones.

For all of the below, there is the Earth Seal in Ch24. (Also, the secret shop in Ch31 and Earth Seal in Ch32, though those are nearly irrelevant.)

There's Oleg's Hero Crest in Ch21. However, there are also Hero Crests in Ch17, Ch23, and Ch27B(which you will certainly get if you have 3/4 Hero Crest users). I wouldn't call that necessary at all.

There's the cavalier's Knight Crest in Ch26. But you can get Knight Crests earlier in Ch17 and Ch22. If you get 3 out of 4 Knight Crest users, the Ch24 Earth Seal actually comes sooner than the third Knight Crest. Probably most unnecessary of the items.

Then there's the Guiding Rings, two of which are stealable in Ch23 and Ch29, and three of which are not, in Ch18, Ch20 and Ch27A. There are six users, Serra, Erk, Priscilla, Lucius, Canas, and Nino. You probably need 4 of them (and neither thief) for this to cost any turns. If we have 5 players, that's very unlikely.

I think this rule is unneeded. Removing it simplifies the rules and makes drafting a thief slightly less bad. They might as well get to exploit their niche to the fullest--it's far from unbalanced. No need to nerf them by giving their talents to anyone that "needs" them. You don't get to use undrafted fliers or warpers, and they are far more needed.
