What Would You Do If You Found a Lost Child In A Walmart.

This is kind of a rant over a moment of stupidity I just experienced about an hour ago.

So I was in Walmart tonight picking up some snacks when I was walking down the isles I saw a little girl crying and looking for her mother. I was about to get on my knee to talk to her and take her the registers or the nearest employee where they could call for her mom when an older man in an aggressive tone yelled "Let's Go Find Your Mother". At first I thought it was her father, but it only took a moment to realize no father would really talk to their child like that. Then I looked at both of them, the guy looked like nothing like her, she was black and he was white. At the same time I just thought he was an employee who was acting a little unprofessional, and no where on him showed any signs that he worked for Walmart. I then got really worried about this kid, so I moved over to the next isle and rushed down it so I could follow this guy without him noticing me. So I ended up following him around ready to pounce him the moment he tried to run off or do something to the kid. Luckily he did help the girl find her mom, and nothing bad happened.

I was worried that this guy was just going to walk around with her and wait until he saw a moment where there wouldn't be any employees or people in the store to stop him from rushing out with this kid. I'm glad nothing bad happened and this guy did a good thing, it's that I'm just upset at his lack of common sense in just taking the kid to a register or to an employee where they could easily call for her mother. I'm just glad nothing bad happened.

I'd start by taking a quick look around the surrounding area since most parents keep an eye on their younger kids or at least keep them an ear shot away.  If that failed then I would alert a nearby employee so they could help or escort the kid to customer service so they can make an announcement and get the parent's attention.

Good job shadowing them.  It's better to be safe than sorry.

I'd probably do exactly like you. Taking the child to the nearest register/employee and wait for the mother with the kid.

Also, I agree with Sarranecia, good job shadowing them.

I'd look for the nearest employee to tell them I found the kid and that they can call off the Code Adam. Code Adam is what retail employees put out when a child is reported missing. It's called Code Adam because a child named Adam once went missing in a mall, only to turn up dead in Florida. The culprit was sadly never caught. Code Adam became a thing after that to try ensuring that such a tragedy doesn't happen again.

I learned this being a retail employee myself. We actually had a Code Adam once at the store I work at and it was while I was working too. I posted myself by the nearest stockroom door since I was literally nearly always twenty feet from it. Some employees are supposed to actively search for the missing kid while others have to post themselves at doors to make sure that someone who might've taken the kid doesn't escape or in case we just happen to see the kid. Thankfully, this kid just wound up wandering around alone and wasn't kidnapped.

However, if this Walmart didn't announce a Code Adam for the girl you helped, that's pretty irresponsible, unless the mother simply didn't report her, in which case SHE was being irresponsible for not noticing her child missing. Good on you for helping!

It really depends if they have any candy I can steal or not.

I'll normally just if they're with someone, if they say no or can't give an answer, I'll let the nearest member of staff know. Even if it ends up being nothing, it never hurts to let them know.

I would kidnap them. You can make a lot of money with a hostage situation, you know?

Eh, I would just give them my business card and send them on their way.

It's sad that this is a problem in our society today. I wonder if it was always like this.

But yeah, I would ask the child a few questions, take take him/her to an employee and wait with them (some employees might not take care of the child right away/do anything).

Basically what all you guys said.

Except a few people.
