Can one hope for a port to Switch?

It's stopped Nintendo though, they in particular are very picky when it comes to deciding what games get sequels.

It all depends on sales for the most part too.

Yeah... This game is a lost cause unless something very insane happens.

I mean.

Low initial sales hasn't stopped Atlus before.

Except it has? Ronde killed the Majin Tensei subseries because it sold about as bad as TMS did. And, as Jedi said, a sequel depends entirely on Nintendo, who has some strict sales expectations.

Atlus HAS had the tendency to make sequels to games that didn't exactly do too hot, sales wise, though.

They did this with Devil Survivor.

Yes, but this is using Nintendo properties, and they usually only allow their properties on something they think will possibly pull a profit, and if it doesn't they shut it down until a new idea is presented for said franchise or game and they take a small risk again.

Such as when Starfox was mostly dead and then 64 3DS revitalized it along with the ideas from Bayonetta 2's use of of their amiibo, they figured they could get a profit from Starfox using a very gimmicky system because Miyamoto is a nutcase. That didn't work so unfortunately I doubt we'll be seeing anything Starfox related (besides 2) for a very very long time.

TMS falls into this category because its related to Nintendo. If they try the idea again it'll be 10 years from now.

There's a distinct difference between "mediocre but acceptable sales" and "complete bomb." Devil Survivor is the former, TMS is the latter. The former two games sold 56,000 and 63,000 units first week respectively, and both hit the 100,000 lifetime sales mark in Japan within a year; TMS, by contrast, sold 23,000 units its first week, and didn't even manage 100,000 lifetime sales at current.

And of course, none of this matters because Nintendo are the ones who have the final say in whether or not a sequel or a port happen, because it's their IP, and numbers like this are what makes Nintendo go "nope, not spending any more money on you."

IMO They might port this game since it is one of Wii U's exclusive games along with Xeno X and W101. To SWITCH users they're brand new game. The only games that did awful currently on SWITCH are Fire Emblem Warriors and that Atelier game. They did awful since not even the holidays were able to give them a bump.

Well, with a lot of Wii U games being ported to the Switch...I feel like Nintendo might give TMS another chance. People are clamouring for more games, so it might entice them.

With Hyrule Warriors being actually ported to the Switch and TMS being one of the Wii U’s exclusive JRPGs, it increases chances of TMS being ported to the Switch. The Switch already has a bigger userbase than the Wii U ever had during its entire lifetime and the “hate” period of salty “fans” settled down. If they really want to make this game even better, maybe releasing it uncensored with all the DLC included could be a good start. Add to that, the option to skip certain animations in battle or being able to fast forward them, some new missions, more development for the other characters, new outfits, being able to switch Itsuki out of battle/being able to choose a party leader in dungeons, maybe even subtitles for battle dialogue or go the extra mile and include a dub...as part of the game itself or as DLC.

Sure, sales could have been better for the Wii U game but the whole advertising and localization efforts were a mess. This game deserves better.
