Your Lie in April is a good one if you like bawling your eyes out. Chihayafuru is a sporty-type anime (they play Karuta, but it's not exactly card game genre). The protagonist is female and there's definitely romance, though it takes more of a backseat. I'm sure I can think of others, but they aren't really coming to mind right now.
