Single RNG, or True Hit?

Single RNG, or True Hit?

  1. 1. Will they keep the RNG that was in Gaiden, or use True Hit?

Eh. Considering I am the most unlucky person ever I really would like True Hit to return. FE14 RNG was utterly unbearable for me and if Echoes retains this(it most likely will) it would be a detriment to my liking of it. Not so much so that I would stop playing like it did for Fates.

Fates' RNG wasn't even that bad lol. Low hits hit more often but not as much as people act like.

Someone care to explain the difference for me here? I've never come across this before.

Here you go.

With my luck, the way it's calculated is meaningless; it was pretty much fate for the hit rates to act weird. I was playing Chapter 15 of Eirika's route earlier; axe users with 25% hit were hitting Eirika and my Saleh's thunder spell had a higher hit chance (70%) than Caellach's Tomahawk (65%); it didn't play out that way (thankfully Caellach wasn't able to double me). Ephraim was missing 90% hits and enemies with hits between the mid to high 30's might as well had 100%. I'm happy everyone made it out alive.

I swear in fates a 1% crit with 22% hit feels like 10% crit with 65% hit most of the time, to an almost disproportionate degree.

I remember a time when 20% ment 20%.

Well I mean, a 20% literally means 20% in Fates. True Hit at best is a system that makes the player feel powerful for conquering the weapon triangle/using terrain, and at worst is a cover for a human's laughably bad grasp of statistics. Gambling casinos wouldn't turn a profit if the average joe understood probability. Neither could a player win a game with hit rates with little effort if there wasn't a house advantage just for making basic good decisions.

Even Fates biases numbers away from 50% true hit-style, just not as strongly and only when hit chance is above 50, I believe.

Anyway I like true hit because it lines up more closely with people's (incorrect) impressions on probability, and also because it amplifies accuracy/evade differences which is something the games need pretty badly. Not the end of the world if it's gone, but I'd like it if it were to return.

And I wouldn't use a few videos to judge if it's gone or not, you can really only tell for sure with painstaking data analysis or at the very least personal experience getting into the hundreds and even thousands of trials (at which point if you hardly ever see 95% miss you can conclude the game probably has true hit). This is even more true now that Fates has shown they're willing to use a "compromise" system.
