Fun Fact about April's fools

Not sure about France but in here in Quebec, April's fools is named ''Poisson d'Avril''.

Either someone thought that somehow fools was directly translated to ''poisson'' , which is fish in French by the way, or someone tried to be original with French's names.

Also fun fact, in elementary school (because nobody cares about that in highschool), there's this ''tradition'' to make paper fishs in class and try to stick them on someone's else back. The joke was to hope that the person wouldn't realize that there's a fish on their back and laugh at them.

Looking back, I have to say this is really dumb.

Is "looking back" intentional?

I'm sorry that your high school was so dreadfully unfun.

You said "looking back" which can be a double entandre for contemplating the past or checking the anatomical region that may have a fish on it.

As a French, we also called an April's fool "un Poisson d'Avril".

And yes this is the same thing. We all decorate a paper fish, stuck it on people's bag and yell "POISSON d'AVRIL" when they found out.

They found a way to let the kids enjoy the event without harming each other AND prevented many of them from crafting their own pranks to use on students or teachers.  Sounds like a good idea to me. ^_^

I think a double entendre is mostly used to imply a secondary meaning that is usually meant to be risqué.

Usually, but not exclusively.

Fair enough. I always enjoyed it at school. It's my dad's birthday though, so we never did anything at home that was April Fool's related so school was all I had
