Tarquin knew that he'd have to face his actions later, Jess' response had made that very clear. Cheryl and Thorvald had both shown him that he needed to try and take control of his own destiny, but so far the only choices he'd made were who to obey. Why had this all happened, right after the Professor had called him? There would be a lot of questions afterwards, some that he'd have to give the answers to.

"I understand, Captain. I will await further orders-..." he began, pausing at the call of the unit from the base. T-2? Tarquin didn't want to believe it, one of the older versions had survived? The naming system, the fact they'd emegred from Corona Ten. He'd been told by the Professor that versions one through to three had been unsuccessful, he was meant to be the only living member of the series. Considering the fact that the Professor had continued and not mentioned her, he could only assume that she was a less than satisfactory result. Then again, there appeared to be a lot that the Professor hadn't told him.

"T-2, this is... T-4. Your existence, let alone your presence on the battlefield is somewhat confusing." Tarquin replied, did this person count as a sibling? For all he'd known, she was a shrivelled up sample in a test tube, and now she was piloting a custom built unit. "We can confirm details after this battle has resolved. I would recommend following instruction for the time being."

Talia wasn't quite as surprised by meeting her younger brother - she'd known about him for years. Not only had he replaced her, he was now coming to her rescue. Her hands began to shake, her heart sinking. Fate had decided to spite her again, sending the person she hated most when she was most vulnerable.

"T-4? Four? No... it can't be..." she wailed, buring her face in her hands. It was a disaster, being back in that room would have been better. "Why did you have to be here..."

The response wasn't quite what Tarquin was expecting. She was likely to be genetically very similar to him, but she seemed just as strange and confusing as the other people he'd met.

Jess wasn't quite sure what to make of the conversation between Tarquin and Talia, but she'd called him T-4? What? They were both from this facility, then? To what end, Jess didn't know, but at least Tarquin's motives for coming back were getting a lot clearer. The girl's wailing wasn't. "Talia, please, we're here to help! Just keep it together and we'll get you out of this!" She really hoped that the Luna stayed on them. As long as Talia didn't pose a threat, things were likely going to be fine... Likely.

With the Luna rushing towards them at breakneck pace, and her own name being shouted over an open channel, the owner of that voice could be none other than Vera Maxwell, the Apotheosis Lieutenant they just kept running into. How Vera knew her name she didn't know... she only knew her opponent's by virtue of how often she announced herself in combat, but that was something to worry about when she wasn't locked in combat with the dangerous mech. Deploying her funnels as missiles flew from the Luna, the barrage was too wide to fully stop, the Artemis taking a few hits. Kim had been about to fire the Mode M in return, but seeing the return fire from her funnels completely absorbed by a formidable I-field... too risky. There was a chance that, like against the last Lieutenant with his custom shield, that the Magnum may have been strong enough to punch through the barrier, it wasn't a theory she wanted to test against this opponent. Continuing to harry the Luna with sprays of fire from her funnels as the MARS rifle changed modes, a few high-impact rounds fired from the railgun, connecting with the Luna and dealing noticeable, if not immediately system-threatening damage. Still, it was real damage, which was more than they had gotten last time, outside of a lucky shot. Diving down low to the ground to have a better chance of cover, Kim trained the Artemis' rifle on the Luna again, firing off a few more rounds into it. With the Heion Riese taking fire from the opposing battleship, and some of the other units around being... less suited for attempting to take on the Luna, it seemed prudent to see if she could hold it's attention for a moment. Though from her feelings, Vera seemed to relish this sort of thing. Perhaps it was unlikely yo rile her, but it was worth trying, and letting out a bit of pent up frustration from the earlier simulation made it feel all the more worthwhile.

"Vera Maxwell. To what owe pleasure of personal call out? And here had gone little while without see each other... how stomach feeling?"

Kim casts Sense, lands on the ground, and attacks the Luna with MARS Mode R

Commotion

Tch, that hadn't been a good cut, how troublesome...

"Vera...?" And then there was that... bizarre turn of events. Esther didn't expect to see Vera this way, so engaged with fighting the people of the Riese, and going after the same TK that was bothering the girl prior. She had some connection to the Riese crew Esther couldn't really comprehend. "If you have what we came here for..." Puzzling. Not that Vera wasn't ever passionate, but to throw herself against the same crew she told to be wary about? Should I help...? Were the guards still a priority? Should she try to keep the Luna safe. Ugh, that wasn't an ideal first field mission at all.

Spirit of a Hero

"Gotcha, Thorvald!" Makoto continued to provide support fire, taking good heed of the concerns thrown his way. It was weird to stay back and take aim at things all the time, but the boy wasn't doing such a bad job... they even cleared the Cressida threat surrounding them. That didn't stop the battlefield to look like a mess still --many an Apotheosis unit were operational and giving them trouble--, and some girl had just come out of the facility with a winged robot! What? Hey, I think I know that design... Even weirder, Tarquin seemed to know her... and at the same time he seemed completely confused that she existed. What's with those names? T-2, T-4? It sounded like Hannah wouldn't be the only terminator around... but that couldn't be what it stood for, could it? "Should... we move in to help? There's a bunch of flying enemy units, but I don't think we can gun them down from this distance." It was really pushing the boy's accuracy, for one.

Scared Stiff

"V-Vera... N, No! Kim, run!" Even though the lieutenant was managing to go toe to toe with the other, hearing the woman's voice over the speaker still caused Christina to panic.

About to respond to Kim's taunting, Vera paused, slowly smiling. "You put our traitor in your machine? Really? That just gives me even more reason to kill you! Two birds with one stone!"

"NO!" Christina sunk her head into her hands, shrinking back against her seat, trying to escape from the cockpit that she knew had no exit.

Perfect... At least this would give Kim a proper reason to fight. Vera didn't want any half-assed battles.

Abigail had received a bit of a surprising message from the lieutenant shortly after she'd charged in to relieve some pressure on the locals. The korean officer was... concerned for her? Advising she exercise caution around the mech that so clearly stood apart from the legionaries it had been surrounded with, and that more help would be on the way as soon as possible. Before she really got to wondering whether she should feel good or bad about that, the latter half of the message brought that line of pondering to a swift halt as something quite a bit more pressing was brought to the table. The enemy was deploying espers, and one was here right now. Spooky on its own, but perhaps more frightening yet was How could they even tell? She felt a wave of unease pass over her, and a cold chill, like someone had cranked the AC in the bot up to max. If she hadn't been bundled in a full-length pilot suit, she was sure every hair on her body would be trying to stand on end. Can you even fight someone who can read your mind? What could... no, no more thinking. Just do.

Vera's charge toward the lieutenant provided a good distraction to the latest addition to Abby's pile of worrisome thoughts. Tempted though she was to gun it and give the bitch a piece of her mind (and sword), the situation in the immediate vicinity still needed cleaning up. Either she was off her game today, or the rooks she was saving were greener than she'd accounted for, the enemy suits still hadn't quite gone down. Swinging around one of the legionary's backsides not only gave the unknown esper a bit of berth, but brought her closer to a prime target for her vengeful feelings, all while allowing her a clean shot at ending a threat. Abigail was slowly starting to warm up a little, shake some of the lead out.

So Vera knew all of these things she shouldn't reasonably know, but hadn't known until now that Christina was within the Artemis? Well, the cat was out of the bag as it were, not that it changed much aside from causing Vera to gun at her harder. Shooting down the incoming missiles relatively easily this time around with her funnels, Kim watched the Luna with eyes like a hawk, though there was something else to take care of at the same time.

"Relax, Chrissy. Not going let anything happen you. Just trust." Kim called back to Christina, keeping her eye focused on the Luna as she did so. The mech was faster than her Artemis, and clearly suited to close-range combat moreso than the Artemis itself... if Vera got in close, she would likely have to play entirely defensively... it was unlikely her Xiphos could even damage the Luna even if she managed to outmatch the Apotheosis Lieutenant in swordplay. Just like in the simulation, in a sense... despite her faster reaction times, she was outgunned at a fundamental level. But that wasn't going to stop her... Vera had just made things far more personal, in a sense.

"If think I'll let lay finger on her, dead wrong." Kim replied, glaring daggers past the point on her display that represented the Luna, and at the source of the feeling of excitement that Kim felt emanating from her opponent. Excitement at what, she wondered... battle itself, having found Christina? Perhaps more interesting was the other side of Vera's coin... fear? No, she wasn't misinterpreting, she knew this feeling. Vera was afraid. But of what? Kim supposed it didn't matter.

Out of Range

They had managed to do really well gunning down Apotheosis members that were closing in... but that was coming to an end, the battle was now brought to the Riese, and Makoto would be lying if he said he wasn't worried for the ship's well-being with that weird mobile suit involved. Uuuugh, I can't do anything from here. "Thorvald... we've got to get closer now... ah, with your permission, of course."

With the Cressida all mopped up, save the one that retreated to the trees to regroup with the now advancing Hyperions, Thorvald and the others had bought themselves a little time, and breathing room. But elsewhere on the field things were really heating up. It wasn't enough to just turtle up here. Now that they could manage, they had to work on paying back the help that had been lent them... with interest! The two pilots somehow having drawn on unknown reserves to peel out faster than he knew his bot or any of the boys' would be able, Thorvald had to settle for the next best thing.

"There, near that outcrop, at the neck of the water there. We should be out of their effective range if we cluster by that location, and then hopefully we can keep pressing onward to the south, but let's take this one step at a time," he advised, waiting until he was sure the others had begun their motion to follow after. "They'll probably come at us as a solid unit this time, and if they coordinate their attacks, I'm not sure I can cover everyone effectively, so do whatever you can to brace yourselves."

Taking his own advice to heart, Thorvald deployed the nanomachines he'd brought along to begin their repairs on his battered bot.

Enemy Phase/Turn 5

Code Breaker

So not only was Vera jumping basically alone in the thick of the Riese's formation -- the one ANF division that was a threat to her--, but Vera was also attempting single combat with one of their most dangerous machines from what their data gathered? "V-Vera...?" Esther held her grip on the console tight, gritting her teeth hard as fear mixed with anger. That was a dumb move, Vera was risking herself too much, all for what? Don't die... don't die on me! "Vera!" The Metis' vision was being blocked truly by the mechs and massive ship on her way, but she could still sense things true. That TK mech was... actually sensing fear? But they were also landing hits... Vera... you idiot!

"Out of my way!" Undeterred by the planes and ship near herself, and ignoring previous orders, Esther sent the Metis' funnels to life, the stake-like weapons propulsing forward, speeding around the units. There was a bizarre feeling once they got close to the Artemis, however, almost as if they were going to go unresponsive. Ugh, a sharp pain to the back of her head. "Augh-- what...?" It was like a TK jammer, but in ridiculous scale, that was unheard of. Still, it wasn't strong enough, not for Esther, brute forcing the funnel feedback to top level. "VERA!!" It hurt, it felt like her brain was being ripped apart, but Esther wasn't going to let this TK stop her, whatever tricks they had. You... ugh.... Thoughts weren't coming as easy, it hurt... and she wasn't stopping.

Esther decides that enough is enough! Vera can deal with being helped! Fin Funnels, away!

Final Flash

"Esther!?" Of course, the girl wouldn't let her do this alone. Vera grit her teeth as the funnels peppered the Artemis, but she could deal with her insubordination later.

"Dead wrong... You'll be dead, alright! Seung-Min! This is the end for you!" Vera was tired of playing games. She had to give the Lieutenant credit where it was due: in a ranged battle, Vera would never be able to defeat her. She was quite the pilot... But range was there only place she excelled! As the Artemis touched down, Vera was on her, landing and charging the machine without a second thought. The Artemis was quick to respond, Kim trying to use one of her beam sabers to stop the Luna's swing, as it came crashing down, but one block would not be enough.

The Luna's knee drove itself into the cockpit of the Artemis, knocking the machine back. It took this moment to grab it by its head, and with this momentum, knock the beam saber out of its hand. " さ。。。貴様に雷の怒りを味あわせる!" Her katana crackled, electricity running through it, as it drove itself into the Artemis' knee. The energy rippled through the machine, reaching Christina and Kim both... The blonde having already been shaken heavily by the blow to the cockpit, her cry over the electrocution slowly died off, as she passed out. Too much to deal with in one blow... But that didn't mean Vera was finished!

With a heavy metallic crunch, she turned the katana around inside of the Artemis, tearing plates and wires alike. "これで。。。終わりだ!" One swift motion cut the blade up through the leg, and through the shoulder, tearing the machine's arm off. One final kick to its chest as she let go of its head sent it sprawling, Vera satisfied with her performance. "貴様は千年早いんだ。”

It wasn't getting back up, not to fight her, at any rate. "Esther, come in. You'll be dealt with later... I've gotten the data I wanted from this group, so collect your funnels, and prepare to leave." It would be foolish to put her sword away now, as much as she wished to, for some closure to the battle. "You're a good pilot, Seung-Min Kim... But you're not good enough, just yet."

Worry on The Bridge

Jess was pretty happy with the Riese's results, but a warning sensor on her console put those away. Kim had been doing fine against the Luna a moment ago, what happened!? "L-Lieutenant!" She called out over her communicator and hoped for a response. As much as the Artemis was their best machine, all these risks, the Lieutenant almost dying... Could they really keep putting her up against these situations? And Christina was unresponsive. Her heart was still beating, either that or their sensors were broken... But...

This was it, Vera was about to approach and... what?! Even with her enhanced senses, Kim barely caught the funnels in time to notice, but not in time to intercept them. It was all she could do to attempt to maneuver around the beams, but with Vera closing in, the pincer was complete, and Seung-Min found herself out of options. Blasting her own funnels upwards to force the opposing remote weapons away from finding any lethal shots, she drew her Xiphos and gave the only attempt her situation left for her. Sadly, as a swordsman, Kim could not compare to Vera, and her Xiphos was quickly sent away along with a heavy impact that rocked the cockpit of the Artemis. But the knee wasn't the last of it, not by far. As the Luna's blade tore through armour and internals, it was a blessing that Vera hadn't skewered the cockpit itself, only destroying an arm and leaving a leg mangled as the rest of the mech was tossed aside. So her resistance had amounted to something, at least. She was injured, but not dead. Very injured, between the multiple impacts, the shock coursing through Vera's blade and into the Artemis itself, and the screaming feedback in her head from the T-link, but not dead.

She couldn't just lay here, she'd be a sitting duck if she just laid there. Trying to move in her seat, a sharp pain engulfed Seung-Min as she moved, lurching forward as bile spilled forth from her mouth unbidden. Ugh... at least Christina's seat was further back, the kinetic energy would have hit her less... slowly reaching to check the vitals within the machine, a small relieved sigh escaped Kim's lips... unconscious, shaken, but alive. The Artemis itself... left leg inoperable, left arm entirely severed... thrusters online, weapon systems online. She had lost a Xiphos and several attached armaments, but the MARS Rifle was intact.

"<Chrissy... sorry. I could only do this much to protect you...>" Kim grimaced. Her entire body was screaming, her vision was red and blurred, and every movement cried out to her nerves that she was making a mistake, but... she couldn't just lay here. Vera's transmission came through, not exactly clearly through the buzzing in her head and electrical damage to the speakers, but enough to register. If she was bothering to say it, then she must at least have had an inkling that her blow hadn't been as final as her initial war cry had hoped for. Would she try to complete her threat, or did she feel she had done enough? It was hard to tell, too much floating in Seung-Min's head to catch her, nor anyone else's emotions in the moment.

That was when her communicator buzzed to life again, with a transmission from the Captain. Flipping to reply on the private line, Kim croaked out a response, not that it would do much good considering too much was going through her mind to even attempt English...

"<I... we're alive. Heavy damage, but main systems are online.>"

The spike in the system saw Kim and Troy's vitals going all over the place, and Megumi couldn't tell if it was a system error or legitimate readings at first. The Captain quickly got a hold of the lieutenant to at least confirm that they were both alright. The reply came in Korean, which was telling. Unsurprisingly though, based on the readings, Christina was out like a light. There was only so much she could glean from vital signs, though.

"Lieutenant Kim, do you have any additional injuries? Korean is fine, I'll run a translator." True to her word, Megumi pulled up a translator on the console to give her a reasonably accurate translation of whatever Kim said in the detected language. Hopefully the lieutenant would have the good sense to return to the ship if things weren't looking good for them in the cockpit. The Artemis could still fight, but an unconscious copilot wouldn't be doing anything helpful with the T-Link. She might even have some unseen injury that could worsen in time, like Abigail had. The doctor wasn't ruling anything out this early.

The ship was struck hard by the opposing vessel. Firmia was thankful she was in the Reign's cockpit, and didn't feel as much of the impact. Brant's warning would have been more useful if directed to the Captain ... and if the Riese was a little more nimble. There was absolutely nothing Firmia could do to help the ship other than remain invisible, so she focused on Brant and Hannah's view of the battle.

Once the Regalia flew into what Firmia could only describe as the killzone, in order to repair the Crescent Moon, Firmia began to get a little nervous. It couldn't be helped; Brant was too used to being shot down to have a healthy enough fear of the enemy. Worse still were the propensity these particular enemies had for using melee weapons. The melee options on the AMS units were backup weapons at best, but mostly formalities. In melee combat, they had some moves, but it was one of the least ideal positions to be in. The destruction of the Legionaries left just the two strongest enemy machines, along with the enemy battleship, in the immediate vicinity. That was ... manageable.

"Hannah, it's time to chip in," Firmia contacted the android over the radio. Suddenly the imaging system switched from one feed to another, replacing the surrounding hangar with the Mantle's view of the battlefield. Firmia had agreed not to get in the Captain's way, but she was paying very close attention to how the battle played out, as well as Jessica's leadership style. Suffice to say she wouldn't be in the way with her current contributions. The Captain was closer to a cheerleader than a full-time leader. Annoying as that was to think about, Firmia couldn't question the woman's results. Well ... she could question them at every opportunity, but she already had a headache ...

"See what you can do against the Luna." Maybe helping to save one of their allies would earn her some more credibility around here. Then again, with the android piloting ... Nope. She already had a headache. It wasn't worth thinking about. "You don't have to be in close so back off and then attack. Use the cannons if you have to. Just force it back from the Artemis."

Things could have gone better, and Brant wound up going deeper than he'd hoped in order to plug the hole in their lines. It was worth the risk to keep the Crescent Moon and its daring pilot from being shot down. While the repair module did its work, Brant kept an eye on the enemies that weren't immediately going down under heavy fire, the TK craft, and the Luna ... naturally. Brant figured he should help out with one of them, but which one was uncertain. Even as the TK craft's funnels sped past to engage the Artemis, it was a tricky call. He could engage the Luna from this distance, but the results wouldn't be stellar. He could also keep his current heading and fire on the strange TK while their funnels were off elsewhere. The damage against this one was difficult to predict this early on, but using his strongest weapon would likely yield the best results.

The situation nearly took a turn for the worst when the Artemis was bested at close range. It only lost an arm and the use of one of its legs, but that was enough to warrant serious concern. More importantly, the Luna was still quite close for comfort. "Hey, are you guys alright in there?!" They'd taken a blow to the cockpit, though it hadn't caved under the immense pressure. Still, that kind of shake up would have been painful.

"Brant!" Firmia, again ... "Turn around and line up a shot on the Luna. Keep it from taking down the Artemis."

All these moon themed names, Brant shook his head. Well, he wanted to help Seung-Min and Christina out, anyway ...

Time to Chip in

Hannah could feel one of those emotions again, welling up inside her core. It wasn't a pleasant one, and flying about, cameras focused on the destruction of the Artemis, it only made things worse. She found herself gritting her teeth, a motion that she didn't understand, but one she didn't want to stop. It was only when Firmia's order to chip in came through that she bothered to finally speak, confusing herself, and likely her new boss, with what she said.

"I'll destroy her!" The Mantle shifted forms in an instant, dropping to the ground below, lance at the ready. "VERA!!" The call went out over communications, the Apotheosis lieutenant picking up the frequency and--

"What--" She froze, for a moment, but it was the only moment Hannah needed, lance driving itself across the Luna's arm, dragging up plating and paint alike. Vera finally stopped panicking enough to swing, her katana meeting the shaft of Hannah's lance, as their machines stood locked in combat. "You. You! Why are you here!? Why are you in one of their machines!?"

"I'm not answering any of your questions! Get away from my friends!" The Mantle wasn't going to win a lock like this, the Luna starting to push it back already.

"Friends? Friends, hah! What did they do to you, android? Playing at being human now!? You might have the upper hand on foot, but in these machines, you can't do anything to me!"

"My name is not Android! It's HANNAH!" Try as she might, the Mantle lost its clash, pushed back as Vera retaliated. One swing from her machine's sword and a blade of energy cut itself across the gunlance, slicing into the Mantle's shoulders. It hadn't been fatal, but it wasn't something to take a second helping of.

Inside the Luna, Vera was trying to regain her composure, her heart beating like crazy. "Why, why, why? The one thing I didn't want to meet out here, why... Of course they put the metal monster inside a robot, and now it thinks it's alive? My day's going great, isn't it Stefan..." A dry laugh at the unconscious doctor was followed by a set of deep breaths. She had to calm down, fighting this thing from inside the Luna made this all safe. There wouldn't be any close calls or overexertions, and she wouldn't be getting shot again. "Okay... Okay. You've still got this. A minor setback is just that. Alright..." Opening her channel to the Mantle, she scoffed. "Okay, 'Hannah'. If you want to try me, go ahead. You won't catch me off guard again."

Confidence had returned to her voice, the weight of the situation registering through Hannah's processors. There would be no second lucky hit.

Hannah uses Analyze on Vera, moves to 14,9, and gets her Gunlance on!

Kim was responding, that was good. That she was responding in Korean was not. Whatever hit she'd taken had to have shaken her up badly, if English was out of the picture. Luckily, Megumi was on it, translator at the ready. "Are you okay? Is Christina okay? I've contacted the hangar, if the Artemis needs to make an emergency retreat, please, do so!" Getting her back on board now meant helping her sooner rather than later. And from the sounds of things, she needed help now...

Below the surface of the water in the large lake north of the battle between the Luna and the Artemis, among other mechs now joining in, Elaine sat inside the Heracles. There was no time for doubts in her head to sway her decisions, no time for little inklings of uncertainty towards her place in the world, and no time to even think about who deserved what. There was a killer bot on the loose with a sword that could cut through the thickest armor, and she had her sights on it with her rifle. Whether or not it had been planned to get the pilot close enough for her to take a shot or just dumb luck and coincidence that put her in range, Elaine didn't care. All that mattered was that she hit with her next attack, and she was certain that she wouldn't miss. Elaine had hit this thing once before...and she could damn well do it again.

Elaine casts Strike, chugs down her SP drink, casts Valor, takes aim at the Luna, and fires with with her Recoilless Sniper Rifle.

Further contact from both the Captain and Doctor Megumi... had she been speaking in Korean? She hadn't noticed, but it seemed the Doctor had pulled up a translator so it was fine. Stopping for a moment to consider the Doctor's request, Kim did her best to diagnose what she was feeling, at least to what degree her training would allow.

"<Blunt force impact from a blow to the cockpit and electrical damage... some sort of augmentation on Vera's blade. I'm dizzy, my vision is out of order, and it hurts to move... based on that, I suspect several bruised ribs, pain isn't enough to think they're broken... almost certainly minor electrical burns under my suit, probably a mild concussion... that's all I can parse at the moment. Christina is unconscious, so I can't gauge her condition directly. Compared to me... less impact trauma, similar dosage of electricity... less pain tolerance.>" Kim replied, not having noticed anything else... yet. Who knew if that would remain the case? It seems the Captain wanted her to retreat, but...

"<I'll... observe for a moment. I need to collect myself anyway. Weapons systems are online and both Vera and the enemy telekinetic are active... there may be a need for suppressive fire.>"

Would this not end? Another shot came out of the water, sensors indicating a machine in there-- What was a machine doing under the ocean!? And how had it managed such a secure hit? It was just a sniper round, but it had done significant damage. The only other time she'd been hit by one of those was... Vera bit her lip, scowling, trying not to smile. "Control your pet project, Louise."

Vera takes a hefty shot, and launches missiles back!
