Super Robot Wars ∀: Deep Space IC Thread - Part 2: Of Dire Tides

The pilots had all been called to prepare for battle, thus leaving Bill with a perfect chance to sort their rooms out. It was starting to get hard to keep track of who was where, the number of children present seemed to be multiplying - even more reason to make sure that Dr Hart stopped smoking! Her office had started smelling better, but he knew that complacency would his enemy. He already had a couple of threats to deal with, he didn't want to let any more accumulate. His next stop was to clear the bins, the dapper gentleman surrounded by women was likely to have accumulated a lot of mess. It was the curse of being popular with women, that Lieutenant Abrams was dealing with the mess of a whole harem! He approached his room's door, his inner janitor senses tingling. Knocking on the door, he needed to make sure that it wasn't occupied.

"Trashman here, just making sure that there isn't a mob in there." Bill called out, waiting patiently for a response. Honour was a vital aspect of the fight against filth - one couldn't descend to its level trying to eradicate it.

Sneaky Sneaks!

There, the darn suit was on... Still no Kim in the hangar! Buck and that old guy and Elaine all seemed to be busy... All of the crew did. They were getting ready for battle, perfect. Doing her best to walk real quick like across the hangar floor, hopefully not attracting much attention, she called for the Artemis' lift, and took another nervous look around. "Geez, I hate wearing this thing..." She'd forgotten her coat in her room... So she'd just have to deal, this time. The lift came down, she got on, and quickly hid herself in the cockpit. Dealing with Kim could come... Later.

Private Tour

"Wow, really? We're doing it? I won't run you hard this time, you're dead tired, but... I'm glad I can at least get you away from your demoness, if only for a little bit." Would they both even fit in a machine's cockpit? Oh well, he didn't seem that big, worst came to it he could rest against her. "Thanks for giving me your time, Sasha. I'll make it worth it."

Scenario 7: A Midsummer Morning's Rude Awakening

Wakey Wakey

"Whhh... Time... Huhh...?" Jess groggily brought her eyes over to her communicator, her arm having flipped it for her, body knowing it was time to get up before her mind did. The alarm went off right after, making her jump, and letting out a big groan. 'Ughhh, I'm awake! God, dammit..." She pressed the off switch, shook her head, and sat up, realizing that... "Shit, I'm gonna be late... Shower, quick shower...!" Stumbling out of bed and towards the bathroom, Jess clapped to turn the room's lights on. It was one of those rough wake ups already... How unfortunate.

Targets Sighted

"XO, we're coming in range of the enemy force... Scanners are indicating that it is indeed, Apotheosis." Tristan's fear of the situation grew worse, another glance at the empty captain's chair. His anxiety wasn't just because of that, he knew that with Jess out of the picture, command deferred to Roxanna... Her captaining record wasn't amazing. She could likely fly the ship, but fly it as well as Jessica?

"Your orders, ma'am?" He wanted desperately to offer to take over, but things weren't dire enough to try and take command, not yet.

Apotheosis. Just as she had expected. And quite a number of them, as well. But, outnumbered as they were, Elaine wasn't intimidated in the slightest. Her usual, battle-ready smile crept along her face as her radar now registered the many mechs that stood against them, conveniently colored red, as always. It was an interesting formation they had, though not necessarily one used as a blockade. From the way that Cressida and Hyperion were positioned, Elaine could only guess that they had been heading in a different direction before they had encountered them. Then again, Apotheosis hadn't seemed to expect them, lately.

One lone blip on her radar caught her eye. It wasn't in formation with any of the others. It was just sitting there. Alone. And as much as Elaine tried, she was unable to get a visual on it. She was too far away for her visor to see it, even with zooming in.

"Head's up." She called over the comm system. "One of them is on their own. Might be nothing, might be someone dangerous. Either way, probably best to keep your guard up."

Sensing the knock at the door, A1 got clear, taking shelter behind the door frame, rifle held close to its chest. Without a voice module or something similar to work with, the silent AI couldn't do much to communicate, not when the other party couldn't see them. That would change when this 'trashman' entered the room, no doubt ... A1 stayed where it was, just barely out of sight, in the hopes of getting a look at the person coming in before they got a look at it.

Megumi was concerned. Very concerned. In fact, she was so concerned to see Jessica missing in action that it was a wonder she was keeping it all under wraps as she lazily monitored the pilots from her console on the bridge. Where was that woman, anyway? She'd only just arrived and hadn't run into the captain anywhere along the way. She wasn't keen on asking, though ... nor did she have the courage to ask Roxanna to let Tristan or someone take over. There were five Hyperions and several unknowns out there; this was not the time to be changing up the roster on the bridge, not even a little ...

Sometime after breakfast ...

Being in the cockpit with Firmia during an actual mission was even more nerve wracking for Brant than it had been during their endurance wager. His sense of her was chaotic now that they were dealing with Apotheosis, again. It was like swirling torrents of pure malice were all contained and concentrated directly above and behind him. The Alkaev's outward appearance was perfectly normal, by comparison. The murderous intent centered behind Brant reminded him of Juria's outburst at Abigail, only more subtle and tempered. It was the kind of bitterness that could last Firmia the whole day if she remained focused on it. She must have been replaying the incident at Great Lake Base in her mind over and over again to keep up that kind of inner aggression going ...

"Terminator," Firmia radio'd the Mantle, "Vivian here. Get ready to enter flight mode and get in formation with us."

That was right. Brant remembered now ... Firmia had punched a pair of callsigns into the system and sent them off to the Riese just before they launched. She'd decided to stick him with the callsign Merlin, while taking the name Vivian for herself. Brant didn't know where the latter name came from, exactly, but it was probably Arthurian in origin, like his own ... maybe. Firmia probably should have gone with Morgan if she wanted an instantly recognizable name of the same theme, but that would have implied some things she was most certainly not comfortable with ...

"So now we wait and see what our orders are, I guess," Brant shrugged, trying to make conversation or something to ease his nerves.

"Hannah's probably going to 'take point,' anyway," Firmia muttered in rueful anticipation, "so there isn't much to plan for, right now. We should see if we can't help deal with the shielded units on the right, though." Hannah was like a sniper that insisted on knifing everyone in a video game. Humorous, certainly, but this wasn't a game. The Artemis would probably get in on the action too, come to think of it, so Firmia hoped the captain actually addressed Christina's strange TK dampening. Probably best to check on that before they engaged. "One moment ..."

"Artemis team, this is the Regalia ... was that 'special function' taken care of?" Based on their current distance, they should actually be just in range of the jamming effect, so Firmia was feeling a little hopeful. Just a little.

"[I like... I like all the animals,]" Juria admitted to Makoto. "[I wanted a cat on the Colony, but pets aren't allowed, obviously, so I made a robotic one instead, using references from videos I saw on them, a stuffed toy I had, and some scrap parts. I can show you him later, if you want... but I wanted to see what cats like are here on Earth, too! And Specialist Eriksson, he asked if I would make a robotic bunny as a present for his little girl. So I fight for peace, so that the world can go back to how it was before for everyone, and I can explore more of nature... People don't expect that from an engineer like me since I spend so much time with machines, but that's how I am.]"

Everyone seemed to be getting ready to take off now. "Ah, need to be readying soon. Will stop talk in Japanese now... don't want to mix up Astin when out in fight. We talk later, Makoto friend! Maybe, since you am know Japanese too... you can help English be better." She smiled and waved before getting ready.

--

Back in the co-pilot's seat again... It was happening more and more often now. Juria certainly wasn't as nervous as the previous times, especially when they had done well together in their last outing. "All ready to be move in when you say, Astin. Everything operating well! Let us do well again too, yes?"

Time to Come

Time seemed like it was going too fast, but at the same time, too slow. Roxanna was certainly one of the most impatient in the bridge at that point in time, as soon as there were signals picking up on the Riese's radar, Roxanna sent a dispatch order to the hangar, having the pilots wait on standby outside, following the ship's course. They couldn't be caught off guard by whatever it was that caused a distress signal to go off in that region. God, what a time to curl up, pipsqueak... I didn't, I didn't prepare myself for this situation! It was almost ironic, now that the dream of commanding the ship seemed the most dead, Roxanna actually got her chance. Right as she'd all but given up mentally, she had to prepare herself to... lead.

Her stomach only sank as she spotted the enemies for good --and they were enemies, Apotheosis units and all. "Fuck..." She kept the comment under her breath, holding back from burying her face on her hands to save what little morale the crew had on her. They were going to engage in a skirmish... and Jessica was nowhere to be seen. Deep breaths, you can do it Roxanna. "Okay... Everyone." She opened the private channel with the pilots, that felt weird. Jessica was about the only one that issued mission orders before. "This is your XO speaking, the distress signal we received comes from across the river... past these Apotheosis units. We've confirmed they were units from central, Velites, that scouted this area prior. It is likely that this force has something to do with their demise. We've got signal that the cockpit of one was still operating past the unit's disappearance, detached from the Velite. Your mission is to fend off and find the remains of that unit. If there's a chance one of them survived, make sure to inform us." That... that was about it, right? Did she do a good job? She sank onto her chair, an exasperated sigh escaping. Jessica, what the hell is wrong with you? Is this for yesterday? It was a personal thing!

"XO," A familiar voice called to her, Dwight Turner, seemed to have been carefully watching the situation. "While the Captain is not present, we have to keep the Riese close to the pilots. Should they receive heavy fire from Apotheosis units, we have to ensure the route between them and the ship is as clear as it can be."

"R-right." At least, Dwight was there if she needed help... right? They couldn't go all out, but certainly still had an area of threat.

T-Link Reset

Christina had gotten herself nice and cozy in the Artemis, dreading Kim’s approach, but an unfamiliar set of emotions started to come into mind as she plugged in the T-Link.

“Ey, Christina. Open ‘er on up, would’ja? Gotta talk t’y’all ‘bout somethin’.” A certain southern bell came in over the Artemis’ speakers.

Huh? What would there be to talk about? Christina wasn’t about to stop the mechanic, so… “Sure. One sec…” The hatch opened again, and-- “Oh, crap…” There was Kim, the object of Christina’s worry. A hefty gulp followed, her view quickly replaced with a chipper mechanic.

“Hey, darlin’. So… Gonna need t’tinker with yer T-Link… Captain says that yer, uh, dampenin’ whatever, needs t’stop. Trouble fer Brant an’ any others.”

“O-Oh… Uhm. Alright. How do we…?”

“Well, first, gonna run some tests on ye, alright? Gonna need-- Oh, great! Hey, Kim!” Avery bellowed after the lieutenant, Christina shrunk. “Come on over here fer a second, would’ja!?”

Well, that had been an ordeal. Whatever it was that had been troubling Hannah would have to wait, as it seemed that Seung-Min was needed as soon as she entered the hangar. Well… Tarquin could likely handle it. Following the familiar voice over to the Artemis, Kim took the lift up, immediately feeling apprehension from Christina as she approached. What was it that Avery wanted to discuss…?

Christina blushed, that was far too quick, but she luckily didn’t have to do any talking.

“Right, so, yer stuff’s bein’ blocked right now, right? Cuz she’s all plugged in?” Avery waited for a response from Kim, just making sure things were working properly.

Blocked? Kim recalled Christina’s special ability after a few moments, she had assumed that Christina just wasn’t plugged in…

“No… nothing is blocked. I can… feel everything. Are you sure… she’s properly connected?” Kim asked as she cleared the top of the elevator, not stepping inside the cockpit itself to avoid cramping the space.

Avery stared at Kim. She was hoping for some sort of punchline, some form of ‘hah, just jokes’, but… She seemed serious. “What the fuck…?” This problem wouldn’t have just solved itself on its own, would it have? Avery looked back at Christina who just looked embarrassed… Something probably happened between the girls. She didn’t pry, not yet.

“Alright, just… Gimme a second.” Avery dipped in behind Christina, looking at the connections, checking to make sure they were all… “Yeah, they’re… All good. The hell? Y’sure yer good there, Christina?”

“I-I am, I should… I am feel things just, fine, and sort them, uhm…”

“Try focusin’ on Kim, would’ja?”

“A… Alright…” So, there was Kim, there was… Some worry, a lot of confusion… And for Kim, suddenly, everything went dark. Christina couldn’t feel the change, but the lieutenant definitely would have. Avery just stared between the girls and waited.

With that, Avery went behind Christina to check the connection. Christina said she felt connected, though she had awoken to her telekinetic abilities on her own power, so it wasn’t surprising she would feel her. Avery seemed to confirm the connection, and as she asked Christina to focus on Seung-Min herself, everything went dark in the mind of the ex-idol, surprising her for a moment before she levelled out.

“There… it is. I’ve got… nothing.”

“Fancy that,” Avery mumbled, looking down at Christina and smiling. “Well. Looks like that shock t’yer noggin’ just about fixed whatever nonsense was goin’ on. Seems ye can still use yer crazy powers, just gotta focus for it. An’ when Kim’s plugged inta th’same T-Link, ain’t no way they’re gonna interfere. So… Just don’t focus on anyone else, y’got that?” Made sense to Avery. That, and if they was going to work out, that would save her testing. They didn’t really have a lot of time for this…

“R-Really? I, uhm…” Christina stopped her heavy focus on Kim, letting the emotions effortlessly slip in and out of her head, rather than locking them down. How odd… She wasn’t going to complain, but she felt more like a science project with every changing facet of this weirdness. “Well… Okay! That’s great, isn’t it? I don’t get in the way.”

“Great fer all o’ us. Now, y’two, get seated… Oh, s’pose y’gotta get changed first, huh Kim? A’ight, I’m out. Take care gals! Don’t get too steamy in here.” Avery shuffled Kim outta the way and took the lift down, with a hefty smirk on her face.

“We-- I didn’t-- how did you--! Mmmm!” Christina’s grumbles fell on only Kim’s ears, the mechanic cackling down the hangar too far away to hear them. “Geez… That’s not, fair…”

And just like that, she could feel emotions again. Avery had a theory that Christina’s incident had allowed her control over that aspect of her ability, which made sense in a roundabout sort of way. She made a few comments about getting steamy that seemed to fluster Christina, though they drew a slight grin out of Kim, before she looked over at Christina, who was already shirking from the teasing.

“Oi, Avery. Only I’m… allowed to tease her. If you don’t… back off, might need to punish you.” Kim play-threatened, before climbing into the cockpit.

“How are you… feeling, Chrissy?”

Kim had been louder, enough for Avery to catch that. She snorted. “Yeah, Lieutenant, you an’ what ball-gag? Have a fun time flyin’.”

“Y-You can feel how I feel… Why do you ask?” Christina tried to put on a brave face, it failed. Kim’s punishment comment had not been missed. “I… Embarrassed. But I feel fine, otherwise. I guess… It’s nice being plugged back in. None of these feelings coming in or out are overwhelming me… Wh-Who says only you can tease me, anyway?” Talking back in this outfit made her feel rather ridiculous…

Kim smirked at Avery’s response, though now was time to focus on Christina. Sitting down nearby to her, her smirk widening at her small show of defiance despite her embarrassment.

“I ask… because I want to hear it from you. Even if we… can feel each other, sometimes it’s better… to do it the old fashioned way.” Kim replied, before sticking her tongue out.

“And I… say so. If you have… a problem with that, I’m sure Avery or… Abigail would be more than happy… to put you through the wringer instead.”

“Ahhh, haha, hah… N-No, that’s fine. You’re, fine. Ahh.. This side of you is pretty scary, huh?” Christina did smile, though, the thought of getting teased by either of the other girls was rather terrifying. Kim was laying it on thick now, but she couldn’t imagine how much worse it could get… “Alright. Just… Just you, then. Hooo…” A tough change, for sure.

“That… is what I thought. And I’m not scary… promise.” Kim replied with a light grin, before her face evened out with some seriousness.

“I am… glad you’re getting control. I’m sure… it will be better for you once you get used to it. I’ll be… back in a minute, need to get changed, like Avery said.” Kim concluded, turning towards the exit of the cockpit, but pausing in case Christina wanted to input further.

Not scary, yeah, sure. She didn’t believe that for a second. Kim seemed far too cool with this teasing thing and she didn’t quite know what to make of it. Like it was all… Practiced. Like this was round two, in a best of three. She was confident beyond measure, she’d definitely teased someone before. Who likely didn’t matter, what did matter was that Christina was not Kim’s first rodeo. She shivered, trying to forget that. How much is she going to do to me? Ugh…

These thoughts were not helped when Kim said that she was going to get changed, and as she left the cockpit, Christina was starting to turn redder than a rose. “SKIN suit, Kim, I… Oh, God, no, please… Not now. How could I forget that… Ohhhhhh, no…” Despair…

Well, that was certainly a set of feelings and some gently spoken words that Kim barely managed to catch before taking the lift down. Smiling mischievously, it seemed her course was decided. She’d just have to be a bit more deliberate getting back into the Artemis, this time around…

Locked and Loaded

"Affirmative, Vivian," Hannah replied, as chipper as ever. "Merlin, please stay behind me to provide covering fire. I will take the vanguard." Hannah signaled off as Firmia's radio switched over to the Artemis team, Christina deciding to pipe up and keep Kim's focus on flying.

"Ah, hey! Vivian huh... What's up with that? Anyway, uh... Yeah. We got that sorted. I, er... It was a pretty quick test, but it appears that I can direct this power, now. I have to focus it on someone for it to affect them... So you and Brant should be fine. Does that sound alright?" Christina was going to be plenty distracted by that show Kim had put on getting into the Artemis... She'd seriously done that on purpose, and calling her out on it would just make the girl admit it. Aka, pointless to do so. She sighed, just a tiny bit. "You're in effective estimate range as it is, and you don't seem to be affected, so things should be fine! Er, A-Artemis team out? We should think up some call signs, Ki--" Christina cut out during her conversation, radio going silent. It picked up again for Firmia, but not from who she might've been expecting, or wanting to hear from.

"Firmia, hi. It's Galatea... Are you sure you don't want to give me full access to the Mantle's systems? Accessing video data from the cameras is showing me that she really seems to like charging into things. This robot doesn't quite seem made for that... But I can make her life easier. I know you're probably incredibly against this, but I have to ask anyway. Give me a quick answer and I'll get back to my musing, assuming you're going to say no, of course." Whatever Galatea had planned, needing full access to the Mantle was likely not something Firmia wanted anyone else to have, program or not.

This Feeling...

A blue pair of eyes scans the monitors inside the stolen colony machine. Top notch. First of its kind. They hadn't been able to crack the security on the hidden system, but that didn't make it faulty. The machine was entirely combat ready, equipped for close and long range. Blue eyes smiled. This was going to be wonderful for her. So much pent up stress and anger, so many enemies coming into view... The rest of their forces were likely going to be taken by surprise; Carlos would have to rein them in. Blue eyes, no, she was made for this. Literally... But who first? She couldn't get a proper scan at this distance, but it looked like a whole squad of unique machines. "How very interesting."

The loud thunk of metal loading sounded throughout the cockpit, as the right arm's stake set itself. "Intermediate Santana, Troy here. What are your orders?" Still, something was off. A gross, familiar feeling. She couldn't shake it, despite the joy of wanting to fight. It couldn't be. They were killed...

Hannah's response didn't leave Firmia feeling much better about the situation; the android had more or less confirmed that she was indeed up to her usual shenanigans. It was a good thing the Luna hadn't been spotted anywhere in the vicinity. That probably meant this was a different group within the larger organization. Maybe they could wipe one of these groups out entirely one of these days. That would put a smile on the young Alkaev's face without fail~

Christina's response should have been more favorable ... and it was, but the explanation just wouldn't sit well with Firmia. There was also the fact that she was trying to be as discreet as possible with her question, given the proximity of the Apotheosis units. Oh well. "Yeah that's ... fine ..." Firmia managed before Christina cut out.

Galatea wasted no time in broaching the crewmen issue again, and Firmia wasn't convinced, yet. "Next time," she answered the tag along AI quickly, "For now, backseat drive if you need to. The less damage the Mantle takes in this fight, the more amenable I'll be to letting you handle auxiliary functions for her going forward."

"Wait, are you sure about that?" Brant winced as the exchange concluded, "You could unlock the Mantle for her from here and lock her out again when the fighting's over. Plus, with Galatea helping her, Hannah could probably keep it from getting damaged this time. You were on my case about the shield, so I figured ..."

Firmia shook her head. "You've got a lot of faith in that dating simulator. The only way to keep the Mantle from getting damaged at this point is to bury it underground ... and I'm not sure that would work, either. Vetting Galatea in a real battle and seeing how she acts is the best I can do right now since I didn't have time to review their simulation ... not that it would have changed my mind. Anyway, if she doesn't give Hannah stupid advice, I'll consider it for the next mission."

Brant sighed in resignation.

"It's not like I don't want her to have help out here ... but I can't keep being careless, either. Imagine if Galatea had been something like an Apotheosis program. I could have lost the Mantle, altogether. I'm not letting my guard down, again."

It was strange to be hearing orders from Roxanna, but Brant decided not to worry about it. Jessica might be busy with something important. As long as she was there in time to handle the big guns, they ought to be just fine. He could already feel the focused but furious one behind him shifting slightly, likely turning over the instructions given in her head. Brant was pretty sure she'd want to head out in front, despite those pesky heavies blocking the way for them. After all, they could cover a lot of ground very quickly, even without switching off their limiters.

"Hmm," Firmia glanced down at the virtual map of the area surrounding the Riese, "I want to deal with those shielded ones fast, but saving that ANF survivor is going to have to be our top priority. We can push past them easily, but we don't want to get cut off from the ship or surrounded up close. Hannah's probably going to get caught up punching those things in the face, too ... urgh. There's also the pickup. We should probably leave that until the end of the battle and just try to confirm if they survived, for now. We're still sticking our necks out to save time ..."

"Try not to overthink this, okay?" Brant glanced back, smiling sympathetically, "It's not just those five we have to get past. There's a lot of hostiles out there. I count nineteen suits and six Hunters so far."

"They'll probably teleport away once we kill enough of them," Firmia noted, "just like they always do." Brant was surprised to hear the disappointment in her voice.

"That's a good thing," Brant insisted, "Anyway, let's move up carefully and see how they react. I'm not going to let them cut us off from the others; I'll make an exit for us after we find the person we're looking for if anything happens." With that Brant opened up a channel back to the Artemis, as well as the rest of the allied units. "Merlin here. The Regalia and the Mantle can move in on that signal quickly and confirm the situation, but we'll definitely need some fire support going in if we're going to do it."

"From the Artemis and Aria, specifically," Firmia interjected a tad insistently.

"We'll take what we can get, guys," Brant amicably amended his copilot.

Uninvited Guests

"...Huh?" Ah, what a mess this had turning out to be.  Not only the Sacarians decided to turn this in a little test trip for their machines, but another ANF unit seemed to have picked up the commotion --none other than the behemoth flagship of ANF's resistance--. Just my luck. Carlos was in a rather sensitive position, the plan was only to meet the Sacarians and lead them back, but that couldn't be done in a hasty fashion, not with the Riese right there, and of course, the Sacarians taking their time. Now, how would they lose the Riese at this point? Carlos had surely done it before, but he had been careful to not reveal himself, and let Miguel pay for it. Now he had more than his own mech to worry about...  Hoping that his escorts would be there soon, as well, added another layer of difficulty to this. Were any other ANF group sent after them, this would be a no-brainer...

Of course his unit was restless, Troy was the first to call him. It was a fair question, inside the cockpit, the man stood pensive, resting chin on clasped hands. "...We need to hold our ground for now. Make sure we can slow them down as much as possible. Try to concentrate your fire on the same unit, especially their melee attackers." It was a strategy that obtained mild success in the past, some melee-inclined pilot lost their Velite, and probably life, to a cleave from a Hyperion tag team in the fight with Miguel, it was good data if anything. If only we had a battleship here, I could tell the Cressidas and hunters to get in and zip out... can't be helped now. He just had to keep himself low profile, as usual... "I'll provide cover fire."

No response. No orders. Elaine sat still in the cockpit, waiting... Watching... But neither side moved to make the first strike. Was it a stand-off? Or simply just the stage of the fight where everyone thought carefully on their attacks. It had barely been a minute, but Elaine didn't need, nor did she want, to wait any longer.

Elaine opened up on the nearest Hyperion and Astin followed suit. Firmia was starting to win Brant over on the communication and organization argument ... "Red, it's Merlin, what's the plan here, again?" What Brant actually meant was 'Why didn't you warn us you were engaging?' but he didn't want to get bogged down in useless discussion, now. Whatever she was doing, the others were rolling with it, meaning the designated #3 among the Hyperions was about to have a very bad day.

"Let's just bring that one down before the others butt in," Firmia said, readying the funnels for intercept duty, "Terminator, we're going after #3 with the others. No mercy."

Whilst simulations had given Tarquin some degree of preparation with the Aria, actually pilotting it was a different experience. The freedom of movement, the increased scanning and precision, it was a lot to take in but it was an invigorating experience. His rifle wasn't quite ready, some of the routines were still loading - had the mechanics had trouble sorting it out back in the hangar? He would have to make do with what he had, Elaine had gotten impatient and launched an attack on their nearest group.

"I would have suggested careful engagement, but that appears to be a missed opportunity." Tarquin replied, checking his displays quickly. There was no doubt that their attacks would draw in the other groups, they would have to take out the Hyperions before then. "My suggested course of action would be to focus fire on the damaged unit and target the others individually as they approach. I shall relocate once more information is available."

There was no reply, the room was ripe for the picking. After all, it wouldn't do to bother people when they were present! He opened the door, stepping forward with his trusty refuse sack. This Lieutenant Abrams seemed like a tidy fellow, but Bill could see he'd had his fair share of guests. Stepping forward, his eyes were drawn to the bin.

"Three, possibly four individuals... probably best to change the bag before the arvo." he muttered, reaching forwards to remove the filled sack. Something wasn't right, the janitor could feel something in the air, something that wasn't meant to be there. Either it was his telemarketing playing up or his sixth sense as a janitor, he wasn't entirely sure, but he wasn't alone. He stood himself up, scanning the room carefully. He didn't know what he was looking for, nor did he know where it was hiding.

"Reminds me of the time that owls decided to make a nest on top of Cousin Esther's microwave... grotty little buggers." he remarked, reaching for his mop. Whether it were owls or space gnomes, he'd be ready for them.

Target Acquired!

"How boring... But alright. Hopefully you'll come to realize I'm all helpful and not hurtful." Galatea relaxed back onto her cloudy pillow, but kept an eye on Hannah, wanting to analyze how she piloted from an outside perspective.

"Affirmative, Vivian! Mantle, heading out!" Hannah smiled, the prospect of piloting bringing a certain sense of joy to her. It was another human thing she had been allowed to do, and it was a good thing, to kill these terrorists. Helping the crew also brought a sense of satisfaction to her, so as she charged the Mantle forward, transforming it, she fired the side beams as directly as she could!

Hannah casts ACCEL, moves to 23,8, and fires the hip beam cannons at Hyperion #3!

“Huh?” Elaine seemed to snap out of a trance she had gotten into as Brant messaged her over the comm system. “Oh...God dammit, I did it again.” She said to herself, before responding to Brant over comms.

“Red here. Essentially what Puppet said. Focus fire on one amd take it out before they have a chance to move in on us. Sorry, Merlin.” There really hadn’t been a plan in her head, but she really didn’t want to admit that, already embarrassed with herself. She’d palm herself in the face had she not been wearing a helmet.

Hannah casts Accel! [-10sp]
And there came Hannah's follow-up! The Hyperion pilot thanked his blessings that the machine was fairly resistant. Annoyingly so.

This was quite the pickle, Thorvald had to admit. A broad river separated them from the distress call, and swarms of enemy mechs between here and there to boot. It was wide enough that most of their own craft couldn't hope to use their boosters to cross it in one go without splashing down midway across. It might have been wiser to all get back on board, and try to make their way unnoticed by the enemy somewhere further upstream before returning to the area of the beacon.

But impatience had stolen that option from them, as Elaine fired the first shot, and the rest of the crew following her example. If they could blitz one craft down before it could do much of anything, that would be a decent salvage, at least, but several of their number had no real course of action they could take in any reasonable time to contribute, himself included. Probably half of them should prepare for immediate support, and the other half think long term? Yeah, that seemed appropriate.

Taking his thoughts to the comms, Thorvald called out some instructions for the rest of the squad. "Alright, Rebel, why don't you see if you can't finish softening that thing up... Puppet, let's you and me line up behind them and prepare for incoming. Peace Officer, this mission looks to be having us on the move constantly, maybe you should get get back inside the hangar and get changed into that frame Rebel was using the other day instead. New Girl, couldn't hurt for you to board the Riese too, at least until we've finished crossing and our Legionaries won't be so hampered. Everyone else, use your discretion."

"Hey," Abby called back testily. "My callsign is NOT Rebel, you old Fossil. But you bet your ass I'll mess that thing up something fierce all the same."

Thorvald moves to 21,6

Abby casts Valor, moves to 22,7, and attacks Hyperion #3 with Pulse Kunai

A light moment of levity had been a good pace-breaker, something small to cut through the tension of an unknown force, compounded with the fact that the orders were being given by the XO... not particularly strange for most crews, but for this one, and with no input from the Captain? An oddity to be certain. It was eventually confirmed that the opposing force was Apotheosis, which was in no way unexpected, and still with no word from Jessica, the crew had deployed, with the Artemis itself falling into the rear guard as units placed themselves. As shots began to exchange and comms began to flare up, an interesting question came from Firmia of all people... well, it wasn't really that interesting. The Alkaev girl was pretty obviously the reason Avery had been attempting to tinker with the T-Link in the first place, and her asking about it now left zero doubt in Kim's mind, at least. She had been about to affirm Christina's response to Firmia when the line cut... someone else must have taken up her private line. Well, she had gotten the gist of it at any rate.

"Hmm... I suppose we... should. We have more... important things to worry about now, though." Kim replied, still smiling at the embarrassed feelings radiating off of Christina... sadly, they also had more important things to worry about right now than teasing cute blondes... a tragedy for the ages, no doubt.

"Artemis... moving into support range. Enemy is currently... outside of our engagement... radius."

Kim TAKES FLIGHT and moves to 23,7

"U-uhh, I need to cross the river, huh, I didn't think this through that much..."
Makoto gets in the ship!

It seemed like a few people were struggling to cross the river as it where, while their transformables had an easy time in comparison. "Ugh... we need to get closer..." They were in a rush, and couldn't afford to break formation. "Open the hangar on their request, but close it soon: we have to press forward." I-if she did it... I can too, right? I just gotta... gotta... we can hit them, right? "Ready the autocannons! Train at the mech they're concentrating fire!"

Well things were certainly heating up. Aliza's first day on the job and it was about a distress signal. But it seems that terrorist group Apotheosis is here, goodie. Good thing she made sure not to bring her music player or a bag of chips this time around considering she wanted to do her best. Had to help watch Abby, and Brant since he was nice earlier too. Elaine too...actually wow there were a lot of pilots here, and she hadn't even met them all yet. Still another fight, gotta focus focus focus. But don't focus too hard or you'll be surprised by an open private channel...like she was now! "!" It was the XO's voice, she heard her earlier. She took a moment to take in the briefing. A simple fend off mission, didn't sound too hard. With a nod to herself she accepted.

'Alright. Can't let anyone down.' It was go time. She was ready to get out there...until ANOTHER call intercepted her. "Ack!" It was a male voice this time, calling her new girl. He suggested to board the Riese. Which did surprise her considering she thought they needed all hands on deck. But then she realized the Legionary isn't very mobile. In fact it was a walking tank in a sense, she'd be left behind while the more mobile bots crossed the river. Shame. "Hm...roger that." She sighed to herself a little, she was pumped for action too. Alas.

Aliza moves 24,5 to board the Riese
