Games You Want Remakes Of/Sequels To

Recommended Posts

The title is pretty self explanatory- this is a catchall topic for any game, majorly acclaimed or obscure, that you think needs a sequel or a remake/reimagining.

No need to match my overwrought answers in length.

Xenogears- a tragically flawed masterpiece in its current state. I want: A new translation, an encyclopedia for all the confusing terms that gradually unlocks as the game progresses. More complex gameplay so one can look forward to more than just the story. A Disc 2 content overhaul so it is more show than tell. Meaning more dungeons and actual world map traversing; also endgame sidequests for ultimate character equips. The story itself would not be all that touched in core content. However the forced religious reference that is the crucifixion scene would be abolished entirely (and we can also remove that random Billy line about considering prostitution from Disc 1). Rico gets his storyline completed instead of terminating abruptly at the end of Kislev.

Chrono Cross- I'll take a reimagining with only ~2 playable characters per color (we can reduce the rest to equips/elements or something). Make transferring elements from one character to another easier. Make some changes to the plot as well- Guile must become Magus for one.

Battalion Wars- An RTS spin off of Advance Wars. The first game was okay, the second was an improvement upon the first, but nothing has come of this series since. A BWIII would have so much potential.

CIMA: The Enemy- Obscure GBA game Natsume published and/or developed. It is a very simple Sci-Fi action game with some puzzles and hints of Harvest Moon in its characters. The game is begging for a sequel. Only one of the major CIMA leaders is even slain at the end of the game. Just have Ark and Ivy arriving in a frontier town to defend it, and suddenly, CIMA, taking more radical maneuvers now that they've lost Pike Nighttrap, draws the entire town into their dimension. Once again it's up to our sword-toting redhead and blue-haired revolver girl to protect and rescue everyone and defeat CIMA.

I'm pretty sure there was a topic like this around nevermind, here's my wishlist:

Custom Robo

When I met this game on 3DS back with Custom Robo Arena, I was completely blown away. This game was so cool and trying out weapons combination was a lot of fun. I wish Nintendo would remake one for the sake of doing it again.

Viewtiful Joe

The fact that I only use "Henshin A Go Go Baby" when playing UMVC3 makes me sad... Viewtiful Joe was a refreshing experience back in the days and I miss it.

Sleepings Dogs

I want a sequel. Though the game was clumsy from time to time it deserves another shot in my humble opinion.

That's all I can think of right now. I would have mentionned WipeOut but it will surface again with the Omega Collection this year so yep that's it for me. If I ever remember something else, I'll edit my post.

I want more of Ogre Battle, Ogre Battle 64 is my favorite game of all time and we were promised like a 7 episode Saga, which only had around 4 games, two of which being Tactics Ogre (but I'm not fond of the gameplay shift from Battle to Tactics, despite liking SRPGs I find that TO lost all the uniqueness Battle had).

I want to say Ghost Trick because I need more of a game with that kind of storytelling, but the problem is that it works best as a standalone game.

Maybe a crossover with Ace Attorney to combine Shu Takumi's two best creations. And keep Yamazaki away from that project with a sharp stick.

Aside from that, definitely Super Mario 64 and Warcraft III. The former is so fun that even just going from point A to point B is rewarding and entertaining, while the latter is a fantastic game that is in dire need of some polish - Blademaster has been a god for 14 years now.

Advance Wars: Come on IS, don't neglect the series that made you relevant in the first place. My suggestion is, return to the regular AW cast, abandon Days of Ruin. Back to colorfulness.

Blazing Sword: The first English entry in FE would probably deserve a remake. If the Tactician is an Avatar, try to balance growths and make the class options those of regular classes like FE12. Reclassing Awakening style might be good and interesting too.

Chrono Trigger: A sequel that focuses on the original cast.

Final Fantasy 5: The most underrated game of the original 6 FF's. Come on, 1 got a remake, 2 got a remake, 3 got a remake, 4 got a remake and then skip to 7 just because of how popular it is? ARE YOU KIDDING ME, Square Enix? At least remake 5 and 6 for 3DS/Switch. Heck, I'd even accept a remake on the Vita, despite me disliking Sony, because it will prove they care about those games.

Sacred Stones: Preferably a sequel/remake like FE3, but with two generations, like FE4.

Also, since Pokémon had a crossover and FE had a crossover, a Pokémon/FE crossover would be nice.

Eh, if they ever do go back to AW I'd see them doing something completely new and taking more from the darker, anime aesthetics of DoR than the colorful and cartoony originals.

Seconding Custom Robo. Kind of a shame that the series fell off right when it hit its stride.

Final  Fantasy V and VI- I actually got my 3DS partly out of hoping that these games would be remade for it. Final Fantasy 3 and 4 had beautiful remakes on the DS so I figured these two would follow. Especially considering that FF6 is considered by many to be the greatest RPG of all time, it could definitely use a remake. I know Square Enix is busy with remaking FF7 at this point and that the 3DS isn't as viable of a system as it used to be, but I'd definitely love to see these coming out sometime soon.

Winnie the Pooh: Home Run Derby

In this day and age, they could add so much to a great game like this one, like realistic graphics, more music, more stages, harder difficulty settings, alternate playable characters, voice acting, and cutscenes before each level! hopefully, the gaming industry realizes how much the people want this!

Just shotgunning some that come to mind

Mother: There should be a Mother 4. Yeah, Shigesato Itoi doesn't want to make another one after 3's hellish development. But let me be bold and say you don't need him. He's not even a game developer like Fire Emblem's Shozo Kaga, and we made out okay. Don't let indie games like Citizens of Earth and Undertale take all the glory. Mother is quirky, weird, fun, and emotionally deep.

Okami: I really want to see Capcom put aside their differences with Platinum in order to collaborate on this franchise. Excellent visuals and storytelling. Plus the Switch's joycon motion controls or touch screen interface could stand in as a means of drawing symbols.

Fallout: I think Fallout 1 and 2 have potential to be remade as fantastic games in the series' current open world format. After seeing amazing creativity with locations like Far Harbor, Las Vegas, or Washington DC, I know they can do SoCal justice. Also a good opportunity to patch up lore inconsistencies between these games and the Bethesda era.

They only need to fix the bugs, remaster the graphics, giving them full HD + new effects and people would buy them without thinking. The Planescape EE was a huge success.

Suikoden: Granted, it is a Konami game so seeing another one is slim to none. My favorite title was actually Suikoden V - which I really need finish - but getting my hands on a disc has been nigh impossible.

Rival Schools: Seriously Capcom? You have another fighting game series, and you won't do anything with it! Damn, Rival Schools, in my opinion, had a better story than Street Fighter.

Power Stones: Another interesting fighting game from Capcom that has fallen off for some reason. On the Dreamcast, it was one of those games you could enjoy with up to three other friends. It was chaotic and absolutely fun.

Shadow Hearts: I really liked the game play of it, and it had some pretty funny moments in them - particularly Shadow Hearts: Covenant, which had the whole Muscle Man thing. Good times. At any rate, I doubt we'll ever see another one of these, either.

. . . Why do I like games that will never be acknowledged? T~T

The Luigi's Mansion duo! I really want a third game, because Dark Moon is my favorite handheld game ever and not just because Luigi is one of my favorite video game characters either. I loved the gameplay, the amusing moments, and the story was simple, but effective and nice.

One thing I did miss though, were the elemental medals from the first game and it'd also be nice to see more unique boss ghosts again. Not that I thought the Possessors were bad at all, but they didn't stand out as much.

Dark Moon also felt a bit short despite being much longer than its predecessor, so Luigi's Mansion 3 needs to up the length even more too!

Next up, Pokemon Snap. Screw Sun and Moon's camera thing, it does hardly anything for you. Pokemon Snap was fun and cute. I want another game all about taking pictures of Pokemon and this time I'd like to be able to photo ALL of them! :D

Oh, I think I'll also mention Mickey's Magical Quest for SNES. It was fun, though really challenging. Epic Mickey is okay, but just doesn't have the same feel. Though I've only played Epic Mickey 2, not the first one, and the sequel seems more geared towards two-player gameplay, so that's likely another factor in my lesser enjoyment of it. I'd love Magical Quest to get remade or a sequel. ^^

Okami & Megaman X/ZX: How Capcom can regain access to my wallet, sequels would be prefer though Okamiden could really use a remake.

Prince of Persia: How Ubisoft can make me care again, good Action Platformers are a rare breed please bring this back Ubisoft.

Kid Icarus: Please Sakurai... I know you don't want to but this a great foundation to build on it would be a shame to leave it at Uprising.

Knights of the Old Republic: KOTOR 3 (no the MMO doesn't count) needs to happen and 1 & 2 could really use a remaster (I would buy it in a heartbeat).

Holy crap, someone else actually played CIMA: The Enemy?! I definitely enjoyed that GBA title, even if it was essentially one big giant escort quest and the fact I had to restart the entire game because one of my characters was not strong enough during the endgame sequence (I forgot to upgrade the doctor's weapon and armor). I loved the design of Ivy and decided to use her as a basis for one of my OCs, but that is for another topic.

As for me, remakes or sequels...

1. Ogre Battle (Both) - Like Jedi, I have an undying love for the Ogre Battle series and am saddened that the series was never properly concluded. A part of me would like to see a remake of the SNES game March of the Black Queen, while I believe the N64 version visuals can probably still stand up to modern standards due to the aesthetic.

2. Xenoblade Chronicles X (Sequel) - I was hooked and obsessed with this game, clocking in maybe 100 hours in less than a week. There are so many unanswered questions and so much potential for a sequel that I really want to know what happens next. The adventures of Seth piloting the Black Hand must continue!

3. Warcraft III (Both) - Before I discovered how vast the gaming world was outside of Nintendo and a few PC titles, I mainly played War3 all the time when I was younger. While I loved the campaigns (especially the Frozen Throne Bonus Campaign), the custom games was the main appeal to me instead of the actual multiplayer. Nowadays I know what to do in skirmishes.

I would love to see a remake or remastered version of Warcraft 3. If Starcraft can get remastered, I really hope Warcraft III (and II) will be remastered as well. Maybe Blizzard will even add a "proper" CG cutscene for the end of the Frozen Throne instead of having the battle with in-game models.

As for a sequel, ignore World of Warcraft and continue where Warcraft 3 left off. WoW was fun for a time, yes, but the universe could use a soft reboot or a parallel storyline that makes sense and is actually captivating.

4. Gauntlet Legends (Both) - Another title I deeply cherished, alongside the expansion of Dark Legacy. The simple arcade style of gameplay and figuring out some of the puzzles using the switches is appealing to me. Sadly, the series started becoming more and more like Diablo and less like Gauntlet, but I would love a return to the Legends style of gameplay. Thing is, the play style may seem archaic to the modern audience and may not be captivating enough to do well outside of being a niche title...

I probably could think of a lot more, but I'll leave it here for now.

Final Fantasy 2: "but this game already had a remake"

Sure, but said remake never wanted to expand the characters, the story and the general world of the game as a whole: like, they could have done much more with the characters, especially after seeing what Dissidia did with Firion. Plus, they could always refine that neat level-up system

Elite Beat Agents: the idea of special agents that helps by dancing is so hilarious that It needs to be in a sequel. Plus, the gameplay Itself was really fun and well, just give me a sequel of this game. Okay? Okay

I'd rather Bethesda kept their hands away from 1 & 2. They would only sully 1 & 2 into generic Elder Scrolls with guns simulators.

Also seconding @Sire's Gauntlet wants, because I love the Gauntlet games especially Dark Legacy.

If they could actually finish Kotor 2 and bring the graphics and gameplay up to modern standards, I'd be so happy. I care nothing about Star Wars, but I do care about a well-written story and interesting themes.

And Kreia. Good lord I love Kreia.

The Eiketsuden Series.

SRPG's centered on the Three Kingdoms and Warring States eras. They look so fascinating, from what videos I've seen. To see another entry or remakes of them would be grand. Moreso since the games are old now, with no easy way to aquire them. The PSX ports aren't in the PSN, and the PC versions are likely to be still sold in disks, not in digital format, so who knows what state they could be. Don't even care if such remakes were still Japan-only. So long I could aquire them (non-ROM way), I could be content with that.

That would be awesome I would be happy as a clam. But only under the condition that the original writers were brought in (they have expressed interest in continuing the story if EA ever lets them, and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to patch up KOTOR 2).  It would also be cool if they could contract Obsidian to main the KOTOR 2 rework (The original creators), while Bioware fixed up KOTOR 1.

In all reality though I would just be happy to be able to play these games modern hardware again. But them doing something like you suggested would be a dream come true for me.

I agree with this. Well, there used to be a fan-made Mother 4 going on, but they changed so they won't get sued. A fan game I'd recommend is Mother: Cognitive Dissonance. Meanwhile, Fallout remakes are also a good idea, just hope that they'll keep the turn-based system.

Seconded. If there's ever a remake to Fallout 1 and 2, I'd want Obsidian to handle it. But chances are, Bethesda and Obsidian likely won't work ever again, unless Obsidian has a severe case of Stockholm/battered-wife syndrome. If not, then I don't want Bethesda to touch the Black Isle/Interplay Fallouts with a 10 foot pole. I'd even be wary of HD remasters from Bethesda.

Anyway...

Remakes:

Any FF that hasn't gotten the love already: A lot of FFs could use remakes. They don't even need to get the same 100 year development cycle that FF7 is getting. Just remake, like, FF8 or something, rebalance the Junction and Magic system, pretty-up the graphics, fix limit breaks, add voice acting, and boom. Oh, and fix Rinoa's personality when you localize it this time. Same goes for FF5, 6 and 9. Don't need the full 9 yards for remakes, but even the most basic of modern updates would be great. Doesn't help that this was already planned before Squaresoft went stupid and tried to sell a 100-million dollar turd to the world and had to stop production on everything and merge with Enix.

Any FE that hasn't gotten the love already: Goes without saying.

Resident Evil 3: This one is special because I actually like it more than RE2(Which is already getting as remake) and the OG RE1(REmake still reigns supreme). BUT, I think if Capcom ever wanted to test the waters with trying to blend the Survival Horror style of the classics with the more action-oriented style of RE4 onward, I think this would be a good game to do it with. Plus, I just really want to play as Jill again.

Xenogears: For all the reasons previously mentioned. The fact that there's dummy data for some characters' Omnigears that obviously got cut is just a kick in the pants. It's the only Xeno game that I think came even close to living up to its grandiose promise, and it just sucks that it fumbled 5 yards from the end zone. But I want the crucifixion scene kept. I need to see a 50 foot tall hamster being nailed to a cross in HD.

Bubsy 3D: Because I really want to see a modern game developer attempt to recreate that visual nightmare, clusterfuck of a game.

Sequels(and/or remakes):

Vagrant Story(Really any Ivalice game, but mostly VS): Overly flowery dialogue aside(Which I still have fondness of), I love this game. If you never expected a man named Ashley in assless leather pants could be a badass, this game pulls it off. The Ivalice games haven't gotten any love in nearly a decade, and what with slow, deliberate, dark action-RPGs being all the rage these days, I feel like Vagrant Story would be a good one to revisit.

Devil May Cry 4: I just want a proper DMC sequel without Donte. Preferably made by Capcom and Platinum.

Dragon's Dogma: This game did something I thought was practically impossible: A hardcore medieval fantasy RPG with a very in-depth, flexible and fun combat system that stayed interesting for the 100s of hours I put into the original. A new, more polished sequel with more classes, even more combat options, more crazy giant enemies to climb and fight, an actual story for the first 90% of the game, and halfway decent sidequests would be amazing. Oh, and actual co-op. That's be extra amazing.

Road Rash 64: Come on EA. You have Criterion, you own the Road Rash IP. Put 2 and 2 together here. Let me shove crowbars in peoples' bikes online.

Judging from what the director of DMC 4 and DD has said, I'll likely be seeing a proper DMC sequel or DD2 revealed soon, so I'll probably at least be getting one game on my wish list. I really hope Square decided to reveal what the Ivalice team has been doing for this past decade. They'll have to let them out of that busted down shed eventually.
