I have voted for you to be an edgelord.

I have not played an ogre game, nor have I even seen one. I think I rented an Ogre game WAY back, and it was like this weird RTS with tarot cards, or something. I was pretty young, and at the time it all kinda went over my head, so I wound up not playing it. Seeing this though, it looks like a GBA Ivalice game. The sprites look strikingly similar in style.

Your other playthroughs were quite entertaining, so I shall continue to watch you work. This will be interesting, since I don't know a damn thing about this game, or Ogre in generall.

(March of the Black Queen, the SNES Ogre Battle, is a proof of concept and not really worth playing since OB64 exists.)

I'm going to disagree entirely considering March has quite a few things over OB64, while OB64 has simplicity, MoTBQ has tons of class options, maps that require you to use a diverse cast instead of the more plain maps that plague the majority of 64 while 64 can take advantage of flight, you do lose the options of water based stuff and flight isn't nearly as useful in 64, actual incentives to using multiple class characters (Clerics for Turn Undead, not to mention each class being able to hire characters while in 64 you have to hope RNG gives you a random encounter or train a mushroom head soldier for eons before they change into a fighter or amazon for a few examples).

Not to mention the fact that there is a big risk vs reward going on with how much the enemies try to shove themselves down your throat and how you can actually see your choices effect your chaos frame, meanwhile in 64 you have to pray you have the right chaos frame to recruit characters.

I love Ogre Battle 64, but March of the Black Queen is more mechanically interesting as a whole. This will probably be one of the only times i'll go devils advocate in terms of my favorite game of all time, but I don't think you can just dismiss MoTBQ like its garbage unworthy of even touching.

I'd go more in depth but I'd hate to derail your thread.

Given that it's going to be a few more days 'til the first update, I don't mind if you go into more depth, though I do appreciate you asking.

Truth - Freedom - Strife - Revenge - Mercy - Change

These are the choices I like, but it doesn't look like Strife and Revenge will get much votes.

I know what each choice does so I chose these instead of the ones I would chose normally.

I like this game a lot as well as other Ogre Series games, so this LP will be pretty enjoyable for me.

As for canonicity I say "forge our own way" but looks like most people wants the canon path.

Also will you use the special characters or use trained units?

And which class will you use Alphonse as, will there be a poll for it too?

Well, you're encouraged to have a rotation of at least 16, so... both?

Some sort of fighter. We'll see how he turns out.

Ah, I remember playing a bit of this game.

And I was really not motivated enough to actually play through the game, mainly because I recently played tactics ogre: luct, and that one is way better.

Also, I pick Change as the last answer.

I would have said "forge your own path", but since you'll be playing this game only once, I'd say go for the canon route.

Is it better than Final Fantasy Tactics?
Yes.

Triggered, lol.

I've no idea what this game is or is about, but I've just read your FFT LP (wherein I understood absolutely no gameplay things, but hey) and right now a brand-new LP of yours appears and I can take part and oh well, I'm blabbering.

Anyway, for the last fortune-teller question: glory, I guess. And canon, even though I don't know what is and what isn't canon.

Looking forward for this thing to start in earnest though!

Equipment screen! Pretty straightforward. As you can see, Alphonse is a badly-equipped, inexperienced soldier. Through the choices that you, the public, have made, he is neutral and air-elemental.

c11b71eb1eb762390c088cb32b6ca114.png
He also gets this emblem! Which is fucking EXCELLENT. Well done, lads. Emblems are basically achievements. Each of your dudes has their own achievement list, essentially. Emblems usually either affect stats or unlock classes.

This is our enemy leader, Stan, who I think has less intelligence than any other unit in the entire game. This is largely due to a penalty from that Emblem, Don Quixote, which is won by being fucking annihilated by someone's counterattack.

By the way, all melee attacks to the front or sides trigger counters. It's a nice incentive to backstab where possible.

69479afe539276d661891248ead13324.png
Here's another mechanic. TO, unusually for this style of TRPG, has dedicated player and enemy phases rather than a speed clock thing. Guests move at the start of the player phase, before player-controlled guys. On a related and slightly sad note, KoL doesn't have colour schemes for different faction. Your dudes are ALWAYS green and blue in the same laces that their guys are ALWAYS purple and red. Look at the soldiers, for instance. A player-controlled Stan would have a blue hat and green pants.

And so it was that Neutral Gale Boy Negotiator Alphonse's story took shape.

I also really like the face sprites for this game, even if it makes some hard sells for some of the character ages for me at times. Ah well.

I'd say, I quite like the Emblem system. Mainly since they're gained from what characters do (or is done to them), and that leads to something out of it related to it. Or at least, to me it sounds better than gaining an intangible currency to spend and instantaneosly learn stuff. Then again, from what I remember, some Emblems are either a chore to get or stuff you may not want but still end up gaining anyway. Hmm... I'd still take it, for variety.

One thing I definitely preferred in KoL over LUCT (well, SNES LUCT anyway) was the portraits. The rest of the art is a bit too saturated for my tastes, but at least everyone doesn't look like they need a comb.

And yeah, the Emblems are a nice idea and it's tragic other TRPGs haven't copied it. Did PSP LUCT at least remember to crib this? I forget.

This is a really minor quibble, but... isn't our boy Alphonse earth elemental? Air has a yellow icon, right? red=fire, blue=water, green=earth, yellow=air?

There are some spells and equipment that benefit from elemental synergy, so I just wanted to be sure you knew sooner rather than later (also, if you decide to use any of the snapdragon scrolls you want to be sure of the element the unit you're plugging into the thing).

Right, yeah. Air is the golden reverse chevron thing.

Let us talk no longer of snapdragons but suffice to anyone in the know; yes, there will be use of them.

Enemy captains do usually have unique colour schemes, which is nice. Generic enemy nerds wear purple.

More tutorialising, but we can skip it this time! Still, 'what's an element' is a truly great tutorial prompt. Suffice to say the four classical elements work in strict opposition to each other.

Ivanna's our first knight, and an elite one at that. Special characters that head to a certain generic class (like Orson as well) just have a flat-out superior version of that class all to themselves.

The parrying animations in this game are pretty involved. The other soldier runs into Ivanna's sword and explodes and I miss it because getting screenshot timings right is an acquired skill, man, it takes time!

Yeah, the numbers swing heavily in our favour once our guests start actually deciding to fight. Note the bag, by the way - that was that guy who died. We can pick it up now to get the loot now, but we still get it if it's there at the end of the fight - however, if ENEMIES step on it, it's lost.

So both Alphonse and Rictor are basically trying to piece the situation back together. It's pretty great that we've been setting foot into a situation we're basically... completely ignorant of, underlining how ill-starred and half-baked this whole expedition's been. Rictor brings up Naris, the lord of Rananculus.

In a series of very tiny textboxes which I'm trying to cut down on to make sure updates fit, Rictor points out that this would give them the advantage - they know the local terrain, the Lodis Boyz don't.

I'm gonna sort of knock off some points from Knight of Lodis because I'm noticing a similar "please god stop talking" trend going on, at least in that last cutscene. I appreciate story, but those kinds of text dumps make me want to just mash the A button and get on to the fun bits, if I can be honest.
