I have several projects complete:

- Ephraim "Buffrahim": +Spd -Res, Siegmund, Spur Defense, Moonbow, Fury 3, Lancebreaker 3, Hone Speed 3

- Soren "RavenTA": +HP -Atk, Gronnraven+, Draw Back, Moonbow, Triangle Adept 3, Green Tomebreaker 3, Fortify Res 3

- Tharja "BladeHell": +HP -Def, Rauðrblade+, Draw Back, Moonbow, Darting Blow 3, Desperation 3, Spur Res 3

Then I have two pretty much complete, only lacking a level 3 C passive:

- Ike "BestInitialKit": +HP -Res, Ragnell, Reposition, Luna (Aether for points on Arena), Heavy Blade 3, Swordbreaker 3, Spur Attack 2

- Effie "OneStabKill": (lv 40+1) +Atk -Res, Silver Lance+, Pivot, Draconic Aura, Death Blow 3, Wary Fighter 3, Hone Attack 1

Then there's the ongoing project. Currently leveling him up, and with DB3 and Lancebreaker 3 already inherited, need the rest:

- Abel "StabStabbity": (in progress) +Atk, -HP, Brave Lance+, Reposition/Swap (not sure), Luna, Death Blow 3, Lancebreaker 3, Hone Cavalry

And finally, my looooooooooong term project, which is making one of each Raven/TA color variant. So far I have Soren, but I need a male Robin for blue (Never got one!), a Lilina for red, two extra Roys, and lots and lots of feathers.

I'm still new to the game but I do have some endgame goals. I have quite a few builds I'm working towards but only one character has so many possibilities, so this particular post will only cover that one unit.

Matthew.

One of my favorite characters. He's the worst of the Dagger units but I'm committed to making him one of my All-Stars. Have quite a few ideas for builds for him and not sure what I'll go with in the end.

2xa: Kagero's Disciple:

Spoiler

Boons: +ATK/+SPD

Poison Dagger+ / Reciprocal Aid / Luna

Life and Death / Vantage / Threaten DEF

Overview: This essentially turns him into a Mini Kagero. He trades a 2 SPD advantage over Kagero for a 9 less ATK. This leads to him getting a couple more doubles but doing overall less damage. His DEF eclipses her's but her RES does the same to him, meaning he'll survive more physical blows due to his much higher HP but he'll falter more vs Mages. He won't double the fastest mages so Desperation is pointless on him, Vantage serves him better as he has Luna instead of Moonbow because he needs the extra kick in order to get his damage in the same league as Kagero. It's also a waste to put Wings of Mercy or Escape Route on him. Even if it's safer to get him in the HP range for the latter, he lacks the damage to make these skills worth it, Kagero has much higher damage and comparable speed so it's better on her.

Drawback: This build requires a *5 Kagero to feed to Matthew, which means she could potentially gain a point of SPD, ATK, DEF etc, shortening Matt's few advantages over her and ultimately making this build sub-optimal/pointless.

 

2xb: Attrition Spy

Boons: +DEF/+HP

Rogue Dagger+ / Pivot / Ignis

Fortress DEF / Renewal 3 / Threaten ATK

Overview: This Matthew is basically the pest that you want to kill but can't. He debuffs enemy units with Rogue Dagger+ while making himself hard to kill, moves himself to the front lines quickly with Pivot, heals himself with Renewal 3, debuffs nearby enemies (Mages!) ATK making him even harder to kill. And with Fortress DEF and Rogue Dagger+ bonuses he's sitting pretty at 40 DEF or 43 DEF with a DEF boon effectively making him Lukas. Ignis is also sitting there for surprise kills on weakened enemies. This Matthew wants someone with Rally or Hone attack honestly, he debuffs fantastically and Ignis is effectively an insta-kill against a debuffed enemy and an attack buffed Matt.

Drawback: It's a fantastic build. However, it's also one that Saizo and Felicia use better. Saizo has superior defenses while Felicia is a Mage tank which is arguably more usable as some of the most dangerous opponents are magic users and she can swap out Ignis with Glacies.

2xc: Debuff Specialist

Boons: +HP/+DEF/+RES/+SPD

Rogue Dagger+ / Reposition / Bonfire

Darting Blow 3 / Seal ATK / Threaten SPD

Overview: This Matthew is a devoted to crippling your opponent in every way possible and debuffing enemy units so other characters can finish them. Rogue Dagger naturally decreases DEF and RES, Seal ATK cripples the offense and Threaten SPD makes for easy doubling and killing for fast teammates. With this build he and Gaius are the only characters capable of decreasing all 4 of a character's stats. The reason why Seal ATK and Threaten SPD aren't switched around is that few characters are doubling Matthew to begin with and the characters that are won't be capable due to Darting Blow initiation. On top of that, his attack is abysmal and he's pretty much guaranteed to be attacked by the unit he debuffed the second turn unless he's rescued by an assist skill. He gets an additional +5 DEF/RES from the dagger and is decreasing enemy attack, effectively negating 12 damage from both Physical and Magical enemies.

Only mages such as Nino, Tharja and Linde (with buffs) would be able to kill him on the following turn. Long story short he'll survive the following round most likely, that's when threaten SPD kicks in and the unit is essentially dead the next turn. Bonfire is there instead of Ignis because it activates faster, Ignis has a longer cooldown and killing outright likely won't happen without something like Fortress DEF, that's not his job. He weakens and chips away, and Bonfire helps soften up prey as Moonbow likely will just tickle enemies.

Drawback: Buffing your units is less popular than killing them outright, so in a situation where you'd use Matthew, you may prefer Kagero or Takumi. Matthew with this build however, covers all unit types and is not semi-useless if few/no infantry is deployed. On top of that, Felicia and Gaius are both faster than Matthew and likely could swap out Darting Blow and make better use of this build. 

 

2xd: Sniper:

Spoiler

Boons: +SPD

Silver Dagger+ / Swap / Moonbow

Darting Blow 3 / Watersweep 3 / Savage Blow 3

Overview: This build is a weaker albeit somewhat safer version of the debuffing thief. This Matt is less about decreasing attack capabilities and Matt's survivability and more about debuffing defenses for outright followup kills. DB3 on a +SPD Matt enables Watersweep to activate against nearly every enemy unit in the game at a comfortable 43 SPD. Savage Blow just acts as a damage bonus. Silver Dagger swaps out Rogue Dagger for more overall Damage and debuffing output.

Drawback: This build is literally better on Felicia herself as she is 3 points faster at +SPD and she already has Silver Dagger+, the build's effectiveness decreases with Rogue Dagger+ and he's better off with a full Debuff Build if going in that direction.

Neutral Matt is terrible for every single one of these builds and unfortunately that's the only Matt I have so building him will have to wait, but I'm leaning towards 2xb or 2xc. Maybe just maybe there's a build that is optimized by using him and isn't superior on another user. A plus to these builds though is some of them need a Rogue Dagger+ and even though other users may utilize the builds better, it also means you need 40k feathers to *5 the optimal user AND Matthew to SI his dagger. Which... probably nobody wants to do.

Honestly?

- Rogue Dagger+
- Flexible (perhaps a Rally)
- Bonfire
- Distant Defense
- Poison Strike
- Savage Blow

Your goal is to irritate the opponent to death.  If they attack you, their damage will be absolutely abysmal, due to Rogue Dagger buffs and Distant Defense.  Meanwhile, every time you attack, you deal 10 additional damage to your target, and 7 to anyone else in the general vicinity.

Distant Defense doesn't provide a visible buff though; it's an in-combat buff.

Don’t in-combat buffs count for specials? I was pretty sure they counted; that’s why Niles has Warding Blow by default to help his Iceberg.

Yes, they do.

All in-combat buffs count towards special skill damage. That also includes Litrblade damage bonuses counting towards Draconic Aura and Dragon Fang.

This is actually a pretty nice build. Fairly cheap aside from Celica as well. He's not as tanky as in my 2xb build, nor does he debuff as well as 2xc, but his survivability against opponents that will attack him from a distance (IE Mages) is pretty fantastic and it's 6 decreased guaranteeed rather than waiting for seal ATK or Rogue Dagger buffs to kick in which is pretty great.

Questions are though, why Bonfire instead of Ignis? And you think a chipping build like this one is better than a meatshield build like 2xb where he basically heals and soaks up damage until he virtually instakills with Ignis? (80% of 40-43 DEF)

Because Ignis damage will be overkill most of the time. Also, in the current meta, even if you have one unit as that Mathew, battles last too little, so it's better to have your special charged ASAP. Matthew isn't going to last alone against 2-3 opponents. He's there to deal the first blow even if he's going to hit back, disrupting the formation and doing significant chip all around, survive the retaliation, and then between him and the rest of your team you finish them off in the next few turns. At least, that's how I envision he will work.

Aside from Minerva herself, I'm still short about 50k feathers, a few Repositions, and am still deciding what I want to do with Palla and Catria's B skills. I'd like to just give them all Hit and Run or Drag Back, but if I get Catria Lancebreaker, she can actually solo Effie, which is a pretty useful check. Unsurprisingly, Est absolutely wrecks anything she sees. Thinking of giving her Escutcheon as her special, to save some of her HP for those times when she doesn't beat the enemy in one burst with the Brave Lance.

My long term project is to get all GHB units and starter units (aka units you can't get by pulling/anywhere else) to 5*.  So far, I have succeeded in getting Anna, Alfonse, and Sharena to 5*.  It was my decision to do that from the beginning because those are the units you start with.  Next on the queue is Xander, Camus, and Michalis.  I need somebody with distant counter if it's not going to be Hector, and they're both in dire need of SP so I'm grinding them to lvl 40 before promoting.  I made the mistake of not grinding enough at earlier star levels for Alfonse and Boey, so neither of them will have their skillsets fully unlocked at lvl 40 as 5* units *sigh* Well, at least those missing skill sets were mostly 'spur x' and I think the last 'renewal', so I'm not too bummed.

Skill sets could still use some work, especially Cecilia's, but regardless, I'm plenty happy with it. Costs some arena points, but whatever. I don't think I'll need them to move back up to Tier 19.

Did quite well on the first trip to the arena, too.

Id say my goals are pretty standard - trying to level atleast 1 of each unit to 40, aiming for 4*, then if i ever get a surplus of feathers 5* the really usefull ones, but that'll prob. Never happen lol, il end up mostly with 4* units because any excess feathers atm are being used to 5* units with good skill I can inherit onto my main team.

 

Decided to have a quick count and I've gotten 44 seperate heroes to level 40 - a handfull are sitting in the high 30s  a few in the low 30s and couple in around the 20s atm

Overhauling her entire kit except for her Assist and spending 40k feathers for the Brave Bow+ and LaD3 was a steep cost, but 51/35 offense on a ranged brave unit is disgusting. Only thing left is farming the SP for Rally Atk/Spd.

I was about to lose hope of getting her when focusing colorless only gave me two B!Lyn, but I got lucky after that (well, I was really lucky with the second Cordelia, since she's +Atk/-Res)

Posting this in commemoration of my first 5* merge! Y!Tiki has been with me since the beginning and has my sentimental attachment. Still experimenting with her kit since I don't have the resources for LB+/QR at the moment but as long as Hector's a thing she'll be appreciated.

Hands down the largest project I have ever done. Sacrificing my bad Hector for Roy, is something that I do NOT regret. This guy was a godsend for me during Tempest Trials, because not only did he get rid of those damn green units, he was the only unit I had that could stand up to Veronica. 

 

Right now, I still need a dedicated C skill on him, I need to complete quick riposte, and I have to get a +spd, -hp version of him.
