Game Over Screen Quotes

Recommended Posts

While I haven't paid too much attention to them, I noticed that the quotes that appear on the game over screen appear to be references to actual characters from other games. I personally don't remember many of them except for the quote from Walhart's battle conversation with Chrom, so I was thinking we could compile a list of all the quotes and who spoke them.

I can't comment on the Japanese or English game over screen quotes, but the German ones are clearly quotes from real-world people, sometimes a little bit paraphrased or shortened. The two I encountered so far are:

"Justice without power is inefficient; power without justice is tyrannical." - Blaise Pascal (labeled in-game as "A Thinker")

"Every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit." - Napoleon Hill (misattributed in-game to "A Conqueror", obviously mixed up with Napoleon)

i don't have the game myself, but I remember seeing a game over screen and wanting to know where the quote was from and it turned out to also be from a real person

so it seems like all of them are

pretty interesting

Any reason they couldn't just attribute the quotes to the people who actually made them?  I mean, Call if Duty 2 was able to do that.

Probably cause it would be a bit weird for a quote in a fictional video game universe to have the names of real-world figures. Maybe in the credits they should have done it.
