You seem to be conflating the two. There is no situation where buff removal, NP charge, and targetable buffs are not useful. There are many situations where damage up against anything besides humanoid is a complete dud. It doesn’t matter how many times you can use it in a fight. It’s an option that will always give some value whenever it is used. Diarmuid’s defensive buff removal is admittedly more situational, but Fran’s buff removal is something that Okita does not have, full stop. That alone is a significant advantage. Buff clear is only important if there are important buffs to clear, is the problem. And 'important' varies a lot by team and enemy---if I'm farming, say, a Caster Marie node with Drake on the team I don't actually need buff clear too much, assuming I hold Pioneer for Marie, even though buff clear would be extremely highly valued for the invul clear in most teams farming that node. That's why I said it's situational---the value of buff clear (or even debuff clear) changes both based on your team and the enemy you're facing, which makes it a lot more variable than just hitting things for numbers. Okita is actually one of the most consistent damage dealers when you toss her into random teams, since she can both be the star provider of the team (due to 5 hit quicks) and the star absorber (40% Crit damage up and 2 buster cards isn't the best, but it's good enough when you don't have a crit specialist). She's more consistent than Jack and Scathach because Jack lacks the raw damage (.9 multipler and no real damage boost outside her Dodge & Mana Burst combo) on her cards to use the stars she makes properly, and Scathach doesn't make stars unless you slap a 2030 or stargen CE on her. Whereas Okita can make a bit of stars and also use them up reasonably well. That is, while I'll probably never use a double Okita team over something like Scathach + Jack, I'd be quite tempted to use Okita in the servant slot that Scathach or Jack would have fit into, because she's more flexible about whether her teammates are star takers or star makers, and only swap in Jack or Scathach when their specific niches are in demand (Class Advantage or Type Damage Up or Jack's debuff clear). Congrats! --- Since Merlin is going to come out this year I was looking up Buster Servants that profit from him. ... I kinda realize now that the game is very Buster-biased. No wonder Merlin is always in high demand. Should have noticed this a bit earlier but I didn't think the card balance would be this bad. Saber is the face of Buster alongside Berserker. Though it does have a solid Arts representation, some of them being the best (Saberlot, Munenori). Quick gets a single bone thrown at it each year which is not particularly encouraging. Archer balances things between Buster and Arts (several of them having the "3 Arts, Buster NP" syndrome) but also has very few representatives for Quick (Atalante, Billy, Tristan, Santa Altera). Starting to see a pattern here ... Lancer has a debilitating case of being almost Buster-only. Only the part of the launch Lancers were quick-based and after that they mostly kept getting Buster Lancers (with a few Quick-Types in-between like Houzoin and Parvati). Li Shuwen is pretty much the only Arts representative in his class with Fionn and Benkei being too trash for anything useful. At least Fionn has the dubious honor of being the only AoE Arts Lancer, I guess? Rider mimicks Archer but exchanges Arts with Quick. Interestingly enough they have the most Quick-based Servants alongside Assassins. Arts Rider are really rare, with Georgios and Boudica being more utility-based. Aside from Summer Mordred it took GudaGuda 3 to give us another offensive Arts Rider in form of Ryoma. There is no Arts-based Rider with a ST NP yet which is kinda odd since Arts is the other big "meta" besides Buster before Skadi arrived. Caster is void of Quick and 90% Arts-based. Figures. Assassin has strangely enough the best card balance of all the classes with no significant gaps between them. Berserker is pretty much Buster-only. Nothing to see here. The only outliers here are Vlad, Nightingale, MHXA and Atalante Alter. So you have 3 classes that are mostly composed of Buster, 2 that share their Servants between Buster and something else, 1 for Arts and Assassins for "true balance". Lovely. Speaking of Assassins; imo they have the weakest representation of all the basic classes in terms of strength and gameplay. None of their SSR representatives are particularly game-breaking with their first one still being the best (aka Jack). Maybe add Cleopatra and Semiramis in there. Their SR line-up is not that great either with no meaningful additions past Emiya really (lol Yan Qing). It's telling that most "meta" teams don't employ an Assassin often and their niche of producing stars has been robbed by all kinds of skills and CEs mimicking that. That is ... tragic. Probably the latter, he was the last banner of 2016 in JP. Here's the JP summon banner schedule. I mean, I'm obviously not the person to look at, but all my SSRs came within 30 orbs of the attempt---Waver and Drake I rerolled for, Jack came on the first 10 roll, Scathach in 3 tickets, and Archer Artoria in the first 10 roll. After rolling NP2 Edison on Caster Day, I decided to try rolling Waver again on JP, since he has a solo rate-up unlike last time. Spoiler 16 tickets gave me this. Guess I’m saving the rest of my stock for the next two days to potentially get OG Saber, Diarmuid, and Caster Gilles I have rolled 5 SSRs on JP in the four months I’ve been playing and 9 on NA in 14 months. What is my luck. Servants-wise I snatched Goddess Rhongomyniad, Lancer Alter, a Rare Prism and NP2 Heracles. This took roughly 300 SQ and ~40 tickets. Objectively this is a really good haul, especially the CEs which have never rate-ups. But the Servants were pretty disappointing and I was mainly pulling for them. Oh well, whatever. Now I will probably save what I can on F2P resources and throw it at the meta breaker.
