Ultra beasts and nihilego possession

Fleshed out my headcanon and wrote a thing:

Spoiler

The following is an excerpt from a journal kept at Aether Paradise, co written by branch chiefs Faba Viridi and Wicke Astra.

May 20, 2017

We have found foreign chemical substances in the bloodstreams, saliva, and venom of most of the ultra beasts studied. Pheromosa emits a substance identical in chemistry to that of salazzle venom, which is a curious fact. Surely these creatures can and do reproduce in their own world, but it is still intriguing to find an ultra beast with sex pheromones.

Xurkitree has electric charges pulsing through its bloodstream. Guzzlord is full of highly acidic fluids, which might explain why it never leaves droppings. Everything it eats must be dissolved completely in its stomach. More research will be needed to be sure.

Young Master Gladion will make a great president. Just last week, Madame Lusamine announced her retirement and handed over the torch to her son. He had been doing a fantastic job acting as president while Lusamine and Lillie were away in Kanto. He's been busy...in more ways than one. For the past few months I've noticed him being especially friendly to young Selene Kala. The girl did a lot for the Aether family, became the Alola region's first Pokemon League champion...I had a hunch she'd managed to melt that boy's heart of stone. I was right, but nobody was prepared for his announcement yesterday. He showed up with a face so flush that I thought he had a fever. Turned out Selene had just told him they would soon be parents! Lusamine looked like she wanted to paddle his rear end and send him to bed without supper. Then I guess she looked at the two of them, all adorable together, and let that one slide. They are due to be married in June, before Selene starts to show.

I can't believe it took four months to get my admin access back in the system! One of the first things young Gladion did as president was give me my branch chief title back, but the computer network was being an idiot. I couldn't access the logs or edit them until now.

Mister President (That felt surprisingly odd to type...) has put me in charge of nihilego toxin research. Out of all the ultra beasts, nihilego is the most sinister. None of the others have parasitic tendencies as far as we know. We know former president Lusamine was infected with nihilego toxins six years ago, and they festered in her body for a year. We almost lost her. Thanks goes out to the doctors in Kanto, but we had reason to believe there was still a minimal amount of those toxins in her system.

I found that roughly sixty percent of nihilego venom is tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, or TCDD. A highly toxic chemical that can enter the body through either physical contact or ingestion. Once inside the body, TCDD attaches to a protein called the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, or AhR. It then moves to the nucleus of cells. The TCDD unravels DNA strands and generally messes with genes. Many forms of cancer can result, and so can fetal harm and birth defects. Twenty percent is nicotine. The remaining twenty percent is a foreign acidic chemical unlike anything that has been seen before. I hypothesize that this acid, which I am calling nihilec, must work with the nicotine to give the parasite eventual control over its host.

Lusamine's blood test came back with not a single trace of nihilec or nicotine. The Kantoan doctors cleaned that out of her system, but there were still traces of TCDD. TCDD was a main ingredient in Agent Orange, a now banned substance that was used in warfare to burn jungles that enemy troops were hiding in. Studies have already been done on its effects on the human body and other organisms. Some of my work was done for me. Lusamine had only heard of the fetal harm and birth defects. I had to tell her about the cancer risk because she didn't want me to "waste a treatment" on her to get it out of her system if she was done having children. Needless to say, once I rattled off the long list of cancers she now had a higher risk of getting, she agreed to the treatment.

She's surely back to her old, motherly, compassionate self. I wouldn't have cared, but now she's concerned about that thug Guzma who followed her into that wormhole. She said she saw a nihilego possess him for a short time, but judging from my research, long enough for significant TCDD exposure. Gladion ordered me to go warn and test him, so I guess I'm going to Po now with needles, syringes, and tubes for a blood draw.

Well THAT was an experience that will stick with me for the rest of my life...I got to Team Skull's run down old mansion and a three year old little boy greeted me at the door stark naked. I just went "where are your parents?!" I'd forgotten who I was there for for a second. Turns out...the kid's parents WERE who I was there for. The kid ran back in yelling for his daddy, and along came Guzma. I should've known right away judging from that messy white mop on the kid's head...

I'd always hoped that guy would end up taking himself out of the gene pool, not adding to it. But okay, I admit, he seemed to be a decent enough father. He picked the kid up, smiled at him, and scolded him for running around naked. "But Daddy," the kid said, "You look so cool when you just wear your pants and no shirt, I thought I'd look double cool if I didn't wear either my pants or my shirt!"

Guzma sent his son away after telling him that wasn't how coolness worked. His first words to me were "Tell your president she can forget about it, I'm not getting involved in some crazy bullshit like that again." I told him I was just there to test him for nihilego toxins because they could cause cancer, or they could get in his sperm cells and cause birth defects, so he was lucky his boy appeared completely normal and healthy. Or as normal as he could be growing up in a dump like that. I had to bite my tongue so I didn't blab out that last sentence. The look on his face was like that of a slowpoke. I told him I'd legally have to pay him, it was a medical study after all. He asked me if he'd have to go to a hospital. I told him I could do the test right there. He beckoned for me to follow him in.

The kid, who I was told is named Tyrone, was still streaking all over the place. He'd gotten a little girl his age to join him. Did Guzma seriously father TWINS? No, turned out the girl wasn't his. Her parents looked dumbfounded. She almost threw a tantrum when they told her to put some clothes on. Her father told her if she got dressed, he would buy her ice cream. That worked. Tyrone wanted ice cream too. His mother showed up at that time. I recognized her, Plumeria is her name. She nearly jumped down Guzma's throat for letting "that Aether nerd" into their "hideout". So that's a bigger deal than letting their kid run around in his birthday suit? I will never understand Team Skull. I had to explain myself again. Guzma tried, but he just said "he's going to test me for cancer", which wasn't enough explanation.

He obviously didn't get that I needed a blood sample. He looked at the equipment I brought and told me I forgot the porn, but he could try to fill that tube if I gave him a month to build up or let him fill smaller cups one at a time. I can't believe he said that around his kid. Tyrone didn't seem to hear it, given that he was now running around roughhousing with the little girl named Misha, fully clothed thank God. I had to tell him the toxins had to go through his bloodstream before they ended up in his semen and a blood sample was the only option. He seemed disappointed. What an idiot.

Plumeria asked if the toxins could be sexually transmitted. I told her yes, there was a chance. She asked if they could've passed to Tyrone. Same answer from me. She nearly freaked out until I told her there was a injection treatment that would clean the toxins out, but first I had to do blood tests to see if they were even there. On all three of them. They managed to corral Tyrone long enough for me to get a sample, poor kid was scared to death. "You could have some poison in your blood that can make you very sick, that's why this is happening. If there is, you'll have to get a shot to kill the poison." That was Plumeria's explanation. Guzma just told him to "man up". Plumeria gave him a death glare for that.

I took blood samples from Guzma and Plumeria and handed them the pay. They said they would use it to buy pizza for the whole team and ice cream for the kids. And with what was left, they didn't know yet. I hoped they would put it towards bettering their living conditions. But this is Team Skull after all. I was obligated to thank them for their time even if I didn't want to. I told them I'd be back with the results in a few months, and the treatment if needed.

Team Skull...parents. Those three words in the same sentence send shivers down my spine...I always say stupid people shouldn't breed and that the process of doing so should be more complicated so stupid people COULDN'T breed. Unfortunately I can't stop nature. Am I wrong for being a little surprised that white haired neanderthal even knows what goes where? And that any woman would willingly give birth to his child? Ugh.

It's a girl! Lillie is so excited to meet her niece. Gladion is wary of Lusamine and her eagerness to become a grandmother. I kind of don't blame him, considering all she put him through. It's heartbreaking in a way, but also, I'm glad we got Lusamine back to her old self. We're lucky we were able to. Gladion knows that. Now if only we could find Mohn and bring him back...but the last attempt resulted in disaster. We've all accepted that Mohn is probably dead. He'll be Grandpa in spirit.

Most of the employees are also eager to meet the baby, who has been named Silva. Faba doesn't seem to care, but he never really cares about anything other than his work. A boy would've been named Silvus. Faba actually critiqued those names! He said "you already named the evolution of type: null Silvally, don't you think you can use other beginning sounds?" And he got scolded by me, Gladion, and Selene. It's none of his business what they name their kid, it's not like they're naming her something terrible.

That young couple is so cute. Every day Gladion puts his hand on Selene's belly and talks to Silva. And she seems to be responding too, this morning he felt a kick right on his hand. She gave her father a high five. Adorable. Lusamine felt a kick once. I don't know if we'll ever get Gladion to trust his mother again, but the protective father look he gets proves that he'll make a fine parent. He lets Null run around inside the rooms and I've noticed the silvally tilt its head and chirp at scenes like that. Would a manmade pokemon even know what's going on there? Maybe it thinks Selene ate too much? I don't know.

The Aether family will clearly live on and become much bigger in the near future, and I have a feeling it won't just be via Gladion. Lillie has been running around with Kahuna Hala's grandson. I've seen how they look at each other. They're both a bit shy though, so it will take them awhile...but I know they'll get there eventually. Hau is friends with Selene too. He asked her if she'd allow him to be Silva's "Uncle Hau", and she laughed and said sure. If everything goes how I'm predicting, he'll be the baby's actual uncle.

I don't know how many times I've tried to tell Wicke this is a science log, not an autobiography of sorts on the daily lives of the Aether family...and in my defense, I was just showing interest! I don't know where the young man gets his obsession with "silv" as a beginning sound.

Anyway. All three Team Skull blood samples came back positive for a good amount of TCDD. So I had to go over there again and give them shots. Lovely. But at least the little terrors weren't running around naked again. They were tearing around in powerwheels though and Tyrone ran over my foot, so I don't know what's worse. Then when he was getting back into his powerwheel after the shot, Misha ran him over! He wasn't harmed. Guzma told me those kids do that all the time. Hooligans.

Those powerwheels weren't there the last time I was there. Wintermas presents, confirmed by Tyrone telling me "Santa" brought him and Misha "the most awesome presents this year". I wonder if they bought them with the pay for the study...I suppose they could use it for whatever they wanted.

But at least that's over with. We still have to do more research on the other ultra beasts, but we have everything we need to know on nihilego venom.

So. Does anyone else have headcanons on this subject? Do you think my Agent Orange theory makes sense? Discuss. Or just tell me if you liked the writing xD

I liked the writing, but how long after the main events of the game does this take place?

also please tell me you are referencing Kid Icarus Uprising by having Faba's last name be Viridi, because in pretty sure they never give a last name.

Probably about...seven years. Or however long it takes for Gladion and Lillie to be 18 or 19. You can kinda tell if you pay attention to the part about Lusamine being infected six years ago for one year. And then ya guy Ty (lol) is three, so it took Guzma and Plumeria three or four years after the game to get busy and for the kid to grow into a three year old. Speaking of fankids, there's one I didn't get to mention because he's not conceived or born yet. Hau and Lillie's eventual son is named Kai.

Actually Viridi is latin for green. Haven't played Kid Icarus Uprising. Shocking, I know xD And yeah, last names aren't given for most characters. It's confusing sometimes, like Oak is a last name, but is Kukui a first name or a last name? It's implied to be a first name.

Also, yeah, I know Team Skull canonically disbands. I changed that so that they're still a team, just not causing as much trouble as they used to.

Oohhhh okay, must have missed the six years ago apart. I was worried they were still like 11 XD.

i actually pictured gladion as older than 11 simply because he took over as president of the Aether Foundation. And would you trust an 11 year old to be the president of ANYTHING?

I did like the theory about Niheligo's toxins and what they are made up of.

I assume that Selene (aka the playable character) gave the ultra beasts she caught to the Aether Foundation?

Lol no. Gladion got busy fast, but not THAT fast. I pictured him and Lillie (and Hau and Selene) as being 16ish during the game, because yeah, too young and the president thing would make no sense. I also tried to imply that Silva was unplanned. Broken condom, most likely. Nice one Gladion lol.

And yes, in game, it's implied that the ultra beasts go to the Aether Foundation for study. I mean data goes there anyway, so it's not too big of a stretch.

I usually take canon ages as what they are, with a small exception with gen five as they are shown to be older in animated trailers, probably around 16 ish.

Yeah, I just realized I had my math wrong. 11 it is. 18 in this writing.

Damn, boy. A father at 18. Legal, but just barely. I would've paid to see his reaction when she told him. Kinda hilarious to think about.

Well remember, the Pokémon world works a lot differently from ours. What is barely legal in ours is a social norm in theirs. Sending a ten year old out into the world on their own is seen as child neglect in our world, but is more of a rite of passage in the Pokémon world. You see young couple trainers all around the place, and even older people like professor juniper and Kukui don't look any older than like 30, whereas in our world, most worldwide accredited professors are much older.

That's a good point, but I'd still put the legal age of consent at 18. Those couples all look at least 18ish. I can see the age of consent being a bit lower in things like FE and Zelda, because those are medieval and real world medieval times had people married off and having kids almost as soon as they hit puberty. Pokemon is modern, yeah. Still, when I write my FE pairings, they're all over 18 for the...smut. Haven't written FE smut in ages actually. But I can say the age of consent is lower in that world all I want, but it will still be considered underage irl and frowned upon mostly.

But anyway. Before we derail my topic...any headcanons of your own? I wanted to put something in there about buzzwole venom but couldn't think of anything in terms of what it has in it and what its effects are.

Ummmm, buzzwole really doesn't do anything with venom. Perhaps go into detail about its poses and what they truly mean? And possibly about just what makes kartana so sharp or the possibility of using celestella for space flight.

headcanons of my own, my belief is that the third versions (platinum and emerald), are the canon versions of the Pokémon universe. There are also some things like the great Pokémon war I believe is true, cubone being an unlit charmander, and other smaller things.
