Should be criminalizes for the buyer and the pimp but not for the seller herself. In general we should si pirate prostitution because in practice it leads to a bunch of unwanted babies born into the poorer strata of society.

What if the prostitute is on birth control or gets her tubes tied?

I don't see how you can fault one side and jot the other, if it is illegal.  If anything, being illegal would make the hookers more culpable than the johns, if you think of it like drug dealing, but I think they should all be legal to be honest.

If they made birth control much easier to access then the only problem that would be left is men (mostly) and women in society losing money to other women (mostly) and men without any educational background, who are making money just off their bodies. I think it could be economically bad if prostitution was legal, however, I find it a little silly prostitution is illegal, but making porn (which is essentially the same thing except you're just recording yourself to call yourself an actor) is perfectly fine, but then again I don't know that much about the porn industry.

Honestly I don't see anything wrong with it if both parties are willing, I think it being illegal causes more problems then if it is legal.  If it was legal it could be regulated and the workers would have rights and protection under the law.

Let me put it this way, if it is to be legal all the shitty stuff about it, which includes the lack of birth control, needs to be cracked down upon. Decriminalizing it for the prostitutes themselves is the way to purge the bad pimps and to, if needed, properly regulate prostitution, with stuff like birth control and sex worker's unions. The industry, however, is not ready for that now, and if prostitution was legalized now with no strings attached it would do more harm than good.

There are a lot of things as a Protestant that I find legally acceptable but at the same time morally contemptible, and prostitution is one of them, especially considering that, unlike a lot of other misdemeanors, there are places it's legal and it DOESN'T reflect poorly on those places (Nevada[what's a Las Vegas?], Amsterdam). What absolutely needs to happen is that sex workers should have a minimum age at or above the age of consent, a minimum wage should be set up, pimps and madams can't have any criminal convictions, and sex workers should be legal immigrants (this is to protect against sex trafficking). I would not attend such a place if this were to transpire, but Roe vs. Wade did something similar for abortion, and I don't like that, either.

i think it is ridiculous women sell their bodies and let any men do it with them.....
mainly because it is dangerous stuff, especially health wise

BUT what i do want to say though is this;
I GET IT that if you hit rock bottom and nobody is helping you and you seriously GOT NOTHING and NOBODY to trust and rely on.... you just sink to a level sometimes you seriously would do anything to try and get back up.... and let's face it, they make a lot of money? i think? i don't know anymore these days

anyways.... i am not saying this out of experience, in case anyone might think so, i would never go that far
but as a person who has been poor her whole life and has been through hell (which sometimes is people their own fault but not always, sometimes shit just happens again and again no matter what you do or say).... and like, if freaking nobody wants to give you a job even though you  perfectly qualified for stuff.... yeah.... if nothing goes right for whatever reasons, sometimes, there is only such little left you can do to get money on the table .... not justifying the lifestyle of them women BUT just saying, i understand that eventually you gotta do something to survive and get that money for your kid or yourself or whatever because the unfortunate truth is .... without money , you will most likely die earlier than you suppose to  (unless you turn into a caveman, go live in the wild somewhere for free and teach yourself how to hunt etc)

There are two main reasons to have a law.

Necessary evils, like taxes.  I don't think tax evaders are breaking a law that is moral, but it's needed to keep the government going.

Laws that keep people from harming or depriving one another of their rights.  Laws against murder may not actually prevent anybody from killing each other, but we still need the laws to punish them.  I'm not sure how much laws as a deterrent actually work.

Prostitution should be legal with regulation within reason.  Like California's "you can infect people with HIV and get a slap on the wrist" law need to get reformed, but it should be as easy as doing pornography.  The only different between prostitution and pornography is a camera.

If a girl is needing money and knows a guy who's willing to give a few hundred dollars for a few minutes work, what's wrong with that?  Sex is not a taboo in and of itself.  I've had sex I've regretted before, but if you do it for money, you know what you're getting into, and you can have an emotional detachment that you don't have when you're having sex for pleasure so to speak.  It also has the benefit above pornography, in that if you become a professional, like a doctor, you won't have patients finding videos of your porno shoot years later.  The guy you had sex for money might tell people, but you can have plausible deniability there.

By that same token, prostitutes should be able to unionize, but it should not be required.  Free lance girls in college working two jobs should be able to get some cash on the side without having to join the prostitute union and make that their primary job.

I don't think the government should be in the business of legislating morality.  I don't smoke or do drugs, and don't like hanging around people who do, but I think those should still be legal.

You know male prostitutes are a thing right? Like I don't have any hard stats but I'm sure the number of them is probably non-negligible.

There are some, but to be honest, women can get casual sex pretty easily, if they aren't picky.  Guys often need to pay up, if they want it.

That's why most male prostitutes sleep with men.

True, granted my experience with male-male sexuality is limited.

I think the practices that I find problematic (and probably most people find problematic) such as forced sterilization could mostly be regulated or prevented if prostitution was legalized. If most of the dangers that come with the profession can be removed, then I guess it's pretty much none of my business what people do with their money or bodies.

I agree with this, I just think that practically speaking the prostitution industry has much more corruption in it than the pornography industry. If prostitution is completely legalized it absolutely needs to go hand in hand with a strong offensive against the corruption. It's an industry that needs to be purged, and only then can it be made legal.

I think the very act of making it legal will do much to clear up the corruption.  People will be more likely to go to the police, if they aren't afraid of getting arrested themselves.

All you need to do for that is decriminalize it for the women though, right?

Of a purely hypothetical situation, would that mean murder is justifiable if one man wanted to kill the other, and the other wanted to die?

You have to give equal treatment under the law.  You can't legalize it for one side, but not the other.

That's like saying you decriminalize drugs for the drug dealers, but not for the people buying them.  Most johns are just guys who want to have sex.  Why ruin their lives for wanting sex, but not the girls selling it?  It could also lead to blackmail on the prostitute's end, since she is not the one who broke the law.

You mean assisted suicide?  That's a pretty big topic of discussion in medicine.

,That would be assisted suicide and that is a lot different then paying for sex.  As someone with a medical condition that could kill me and will shorten my life span by at least 20 years I have mixed feelings on assisted suicide, but that is not the issue here and if you want to talk about that you can PM me.

I'm in support of it as long as it isn't used as a crutch for harmful or injurious behavior. There's also the risk of STI contraction, but I would imagine that both clients and prostitutes alike would be required by law to provide adequate documentation to prove the absence of such infections. Similarly, I would assume that both parties would sign waivers of consent that would also stipulate general information such as hourly rate and legal implications behind contract infractions.

The Netherlands, specifically Amsterdam, seems an effective example of this, although I'm not familiar with specifics.

Case in point, if you're willing to pay and partake in it safely, I'm all for it.

Well, yes I can. I'd decriminalize it for one side but not the other because the goal is to crack down on sex trafficking. They should be brought to trial and acquitted if it's found that there was nothing untoward about the brothel they went to; if the prostitute wasn't trafficked there's no problem but if she was, it's rape, although unknowingly raping someone is quite the gray area.
