Why do PS4 game cases suck? (A rant/discussion about game cases)

I buy a lot of games online; most of which are PS4 games. Based on my guesstimation, about 80% of the PS4 games I receive in the mail either have a dent in the case or a loose disc rattling inside of it. Another problem I seem to have is the disc not wanting to snap onto the disc holder. I have to rest the case on a flat surface like my desk for the disc to actually go through and snap. This only happens for some of the cases, the other ones are fine and the disc snaps through fine as if I was holding a Wii or PS3 case.

Oh and other console cases? Xbox One? Why on earth would they have the disc holder on the left side? It's awkward. Jewel cases for PS1 and Dreamcast? Horrible idea and they crack if you just look at it.

Idk why it's so difficult for companies to make nice durable game cases. Just look at Nintendo's 3DS game cases. You need the force of an iron fist to snap those suckers open. You also need a thumb with the might of Zeus to pop those cartridges out of the holder. It's perfect! (minus the weird eco-friendly holes)

Ever used a Gamecube case? It has the opposite problem. It's so tight that you feel like you're going to break your minidisc pulling it out.

Dude I cringe when the disc starts to bend lol.

I certainly remember this. It's amazing I was gentle with it and never had that actually happen in all my years. Pressing down on the plastic center as hard as possible to release you must!

Technically it probably cuts down on the cost very very very slightly.

Overhead.

The cost of development is fucking astronomical nowadays, and yet the game is still $60 before the DLC and loot box bullshit. So the work that goes into cases, the labels, etc., wherever you can cut corners, you cut them to increase that profit margin even a little bit.

For you younger members, go find an old instruction booklet for most NES games. They were huge sometimes! Large, with hints in the back, some were in full colour, with art. I think Final Fantasy's was 77 pages or something. Now, even the PDF manuals look cheaper in comparison. It's just a matter of dollars and sense in an industry that's as tight and competitive as it's ever been.

And then you have the japanese boxes which are really small and fragile.  Funny enough the JPN GCN cases are smaller than switch's cases.

At the end of the day it's just cutting manufacturer cost and using cheaper recycled materials.
