It doesn't help that damage sponge bosses are also rarely done well. That being said, they're satisfying to beat, especially if the final blow (or the fight overall) was very cinematic. And since wood is harder than bread, they're better suited to play instruments with. There is also the fact to consider that hardened bread is actually quite easy to break whereas wooden sticks don't break as easily.
